A good middle ground exhaust wise is a dual invidia n1. I'm running a catless invidia j pipe to the dual n1 and its almost the perfect noise level. Not loud until you open it up and you get all the fun turbo whistle.

@@mikethomas9124 I got muffler delete axle backs. So it is a little loud on the cold start untill the rpms drop. Otherwise it's not that loud. If your worried about it being too loud get some with mufflers. They would help with droning too. Mine drones pretty bad around 2k rpms cruising, Otherwise it sounds good.
This Winter I am getting a 2022 Wrx, so this is helpful in what to look for. I like the fact that you can hear his turbo. Wow, I got to have that on mine.

The Tomei would probably sound almost exactly like the muffler deletes if he didnt have the downpipe. I have the FactionFab muffler deletes and a Grimmspeed DP and mine sounds exactly like his.
This is our experience as well. If both cars had an aftermarket j-pipe (or downpipe on an STI) the biggest difference between the Tomei and FactionFab would be a slightly more tinny titanium vs deeper stainless sound.
I have a 2017 wrx with the Tomei and a high flow catted downpipe from invidia and I don't regret the almost $2000 i spent cause the sound is mesmerizing and I constantly get compliments on the sound from other people as well.
I ran the remark muffler deletes on mine, then ran tomei, then ran tomei with grimmspeed jpipe and honestly over video you can't tell the difference. In person though, the tomei and jpipe have a way deeper sound and it pops much more.

What do you have done under the hood vs your friend? It would be nice to see a full build comparison to get a better understanding of what else is contributing to the sound. I’ve got COBB Big SF intake, Boomba BPV, IAG AOS, AP, and the FF Axle back (on back order). Would like to see how close our builds are to get a better understanding of how mine will sound. Both cars sound amazing though. I would give the win to the Tomei if you have the funds. But FF does sound really nice for low budget.

I had a nameless muffler delete and now a tomei. Tomei is hands down better. Not as raspy and has a deeper tone. Deletes are nice if you are on a budget but I got my tomei brand new for $900 which isn't bad.
I have the same setup as your buddy's on my wrx but with a non-resonated Cobb Jpipe. I used to run muffler deletes until the upgrades. Can't go wrong with both setups tho 👍
i have a catted j pipe with muffler deletes. that shit is LOUD with a bit of rasp to it too, definitely want a tomei or anything tbh. i’m just too broke for a catback LOL
To be honest.. the tomei sounds nice but its too loud. Normal axleback muffler deletes sound just fine to me and in the future if you ever want to do a catback its an easy uninstall-install.
Have you heard of blackhorse racing? They have a Dual exit quad titanium tip cat back exhaust at a decent price. It's compared to the invidia r400 regarding the sound and all the welds look professional. Anyways, just wondering for future reference. Nice little reference on the side of your hat btw 🙏🏻
I feel like Tomei is way overrated. There’s plenty of exhausts out there that sound and look better. I’m new to your channel btw, your wrx is super clean!

I went from just Remark muffler deletes to a Tomei on a stock STI and the sound is similar but much deeper and a bit louder with more pops

All i can say is, very nice. I like it. Although i wont be doing that much to mine. Just the wheels atm but plan to sell to get an STI later on.
