i was expecting him to say that but was disappointed. i was also hoping there'd be some comment from tony hawk when they showed him the original version.
It was caught that's where the annotation comes from but do you have to really complain? They work hard finding the info and editing everything and complaining over a simple mistake is kind of bad
5:58 This problem of available memory also happened in Gex: Enter The Gecko. I think it's a fair trade-off between more music and analog-stick control. And for the record, I got Gex in the PlayStation Flash Sale a few days ago for $1. Totally worth it.
I remember describing how they could work in a skatepark creation tool in the game in the suggestions thread on their forum (or at least some forum the developers were active in). And waddaya know, when THPS2 came out, it had a skatepark creation tool. I'm still patting myself on the back for that one.
One of the most important games in video game history. This, or it's sequel. This really made video games mainsteam in the west and aus/nz. Video games might still be a 'nerd-only' thing if not for this.
One of the gaps: Yippee Ki-yay Mamacita! or "The TV Dinner" All the characters are people from the Die-Hard series. And the game has a mini game of "Armageddon: The game" which is Space invaders, but with Bruce Willis as the tank, and meteors as the aliens.
This video actually turned out to be interesting. The amount of video and images DYKG manages to get is impressive. I'm still surprised that Castlevania hasn't been one of the games in a featured video though. Seems like there are other franchises DKYG would rather do than Tony Hawk. 6:24 You're okay with saying shit but not writing it? Why is that?
***** Thank you for the reply. I don't mean to come off as demanding or anything, I just expected DYKG to release at least 1 video for most of the popular classic franchises. I was surprised when there wasn't a Castlevania video released around the time Lords of Shadow 2 was released.
Tony hawk pro skater, Pizza Hut demo, THPS sound track . This video brings back nostalgic memories. Tony hawk pro skater game made every kid in the 90's dream to become skater.
Holy shit Sony, what a dick move. "Hey, this game looks like it has promise. Let's take it, change literally everything about it, then give up on it halfway through!" It's like if EA were to take Half Life 3 from Valve, change it to some modern military FPS with the protagonist voice acted by Tommy Wiseau, then canning it just because.
Id pay to play a game where the protagonist is voiced by Tommy Wiseau. "No Sephiroth i cannot allow you to destroy this planet. anyway's how's your sex life?" lmao
These videos are always SO good. I never hesitate to watch the latest one whenever I see it popping up in my subscription list. I love how I'm not a skater, not really a fan of skating as a sport, but I kinda love the Tony Hawk games. I had no interest in even playing them until I believe I tried out Underground 2, but then I found myself having so much fun that I went back and played the others in the series and had a blast. Thanks!
I rather miss Tony Hawk's Pro Skater. Especially the Underground games. Skate went one direction, Tony Hawk went screaming in the other. and it was FUN.
my god... I would love to go to Pizza Hut and suddenly they gave me the demo of the game that made part of my childhood :D though, my parents bought the game instead what I am sad of is that neversoft (the creators of the game) was bought by Infinity Ward, the creators of Call Of Duty so yup, there will not be a new Tony Hawk game ever again :´( GOD DAMN IT INFINITY WARD, YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO BE A GOOD COMPANY!
sergiocast345 I mean they both took great franchises and turned them into yearly cash cows, just people stopped buying the Tony Hawk games cause they were shit towards the end, CoD while repetitive is still functional, I guess they belong together.
I remember playing the Tony Hawk's Pro Skater demo for PS1 back in Summer 1999 over and over again with a friend and watching the X Games in the process which made me even more hyped for the game to be released. Then in the Fall of that year finally buying myself a retail copy of the game and playing it for hours trying to master the moves. Good times.
Those Crazy Guys Productions Why not just buy the full game now that it's been available for quite some time now? I had to play the demo of Tony Hawk Pro Skater because the game wasn't out yet.
GhostBlade It's not always right to assume someone can buy something if they want something. I mean they can, but if they don't have money, it's a different situation.
Those Crazy Guys Productions Well, if you have the system, chances are you can afford something if you really want it and you can always save up. The game is only like $20.
I remember a game on the PS1 called Thrasher: Skate and Destroy. It was a Tony Hawk clone, but what was cool about it was that it had late 80s-early 90s rap music.
Oh man I forgot all about the Game Boy Color version, I remember my brother got a Game Boy Advance for Christmas and one of the games he got was the GBC version of Tony Hawk.
so wait, Sony bought a game, and then changed the name, story, mechanics, graphic style and name, and then canceled it? Why the hell did they buy it to begin with?

Including Hawk, a real skate pro, as consultant was a brilliant decision. His input helped define this genre of game.
They should have left Bruce Willis in there as a secret character.
Yes. Just yes space hamster.
i was expecting him to say that but was disappointed. i was also hoping there'd be some comment from tony hawk when they showed him the original version.
Probably did, just reskinned as Officer Dick. lol
That would have been cool and funny to see.
Damn wasnt expecting to see a ten year old hammy comment.
"In January 2008 Neversoft was nearly out of funds"
Pretty sure he meant 1998.
Yeah

IAN YOU GOT IT WRONG YOU SHOULD HAVE SAID 1764
damnit ian
I always get excited when I see you've commented on someone's video, I just don't know why XD
k
He also said 2008 instead of 1998
Mmmmm, cadiccarus.
OOPS That date mishap was totally my fault. Forgive me, Shane.
I still love you Ian
Mike Ramsay I love you too man.
Its ok man, i wont judge.
I am dissapoint, Moose.
Shane may forgive you *BUT I WON'T*
Big Guns canceled in 1997, Activision picks up Neversoft in 2008. Tony Hawk Pro Skater released in 1999. Activision can time travel.
There is a annotation that says Activision picked up Neversoft in 1998
95tomm95 Cool. Still should have been caught before posting.
It was caught that's where the annotation comes from but do you have to really complain? They work hard finding the info and editing everything and complaining over a simple mistake is kind of bad
Skylirux Wasn't complaining.
Skylirux He wasnt complaining he made a joke..
Wait a second, Activision SAVED a company?!
God, I remember the Neversoft game intro with the eyeball falling into the stick used to scare the crap outta me as a child
SAME HERE
Me too!
Whenever I started up Spider Man on the PS1, I would occasionally look away when the logo showed up. I think I still have that game...
Especially the THUG1 intro.
Dear GOD the THUG1 intro.
3:30 Wow, talk about a blast from the past. I remember Pizza Hut doing that when I was very young.
5:58 This problem of available memory also happened in Gex: Enter The Gecko. I think it's a fair trade-off between more music and analog-stick control.
And for the record, I got Gex in the PlayStation Flash Sale a few days ago for $1. Totally worth it.
6:35 That picture is creepy as fuck. I'd be kinda scared if I hit random buttons and a random girls picture popped up on screen. ._.
Yeah, that kind of stuff creeps me out.
I was about to comment something similar that's so weird the fact that no one from the devs have come forward with any info makes it even creepier.
I have that Pizza Hut demo disc, Tony Hawk and Crash were the two I played the most. I'm also proud to say that I still own this game :D
I still own it too. In fact I'll still play it every now and then!
True classic!
Hats off to you lad. Prime childhood gaming at its best. ^o^

Ok show of hands. Who here would play Bruce Willis Pro Skater?
One of the gaps: Yippee Ki-yay Mamacita! or "The TV Dinner"
All the characters are people from the Die-Hard series.
And the game has a mini game of "Armageddon: The game" which is Space invaders, but with Bruce Willis as the tank, and meteors as the aliens.
JGerraughtyOfficial That's fantastic. Can someone make this happen please?
PixelatedGam3r I make games...sadly that is difficult as I am a programmer...No modelling/texturing skills qq

Im glad Activision saved Neversoft, they made one of my favorite Spiderman Games on PS1.
Yeah spiderman (2000) is awesome.
Jamie Mcnulty Some of my Fondest childhood memories are of playing that game :3
That was like my favorite game ever as a kid. I'm pretty sure "I'm already at full health." is a sentence that will forever be ingrained in my brain.
I always wondered why Spiderman was in THPS2
Bender Rodriguz Its because neversoft both made spiderman (2000) and tony hawks pro skater so they decided to put spiderman in tony hawks pro skater 2
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5 has more ragdoll physics, bugs, and no clip glitches that was intended for Goat Simulator.
I loved these games as a kid, I'm glad you guys chose to do this game.

There is a new TH game, titled Tony Hawk's Shred Session. But yeah, I'll miss Neversoft. :(

Not as good as Kellogg's & Age of Empires.

Fun fact:
In Tony Hawks pro skater 2, a Doomguy skin can be worn.
In DOOM Eternal, there is a skateboard in the Slayer's office.
That's awesome. I love stuff like that
I remember a game on the PS1 called Thrasher: Skate and Destroy. It was a Tony Hawk clone, but what was cool about it was that it had late 80s-early 90s rap music.
ive played it and its not that bad
I would hardly call it a clone since it was released less than a month after tony hawks pro skater.
Skate and Destroy was more realistic and developed by Rockstar
Is it me or the "Big daddy grind" sounds *way* more badass than "Long-ass grind"?
HOLY COW!
Damn... That first tune gave me some nostalgia chills.
I wonder if they'll do a Soul Calibur DYKGaming.
FAVORITE GAME OF MY CHILDHOOD!
"We showed to Tony Hawk to get him on board..."
I see what you did there.
Tony Hawk Underground 2 was so awesome. Nice to see the origins!
Best tony hawk game ever ever
1 and 2 will always be the best come on you had spider man and other super heroes as skate boraders lol
One of the best games ever. The sound track alone gives it that.
love these videos, i hope you've got ads enabled because you deserve to be making money from content of this quality
This was my favorite series growing up, yet another great video guys.
Did you know Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5?
We sure wish we hadn't
Ryan S. THPS 5 was actually good i have no idea why people say it sucks it's great on PS3
Please make a part 2. I loved this episode because it takes me back when I first played these games
It looks like you could've performed Final Smashes in the beta of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater.
I played all of the Tony Hawk video games.
the skate series would be a good video to do.
Did You Know Gaming: Conker's Bad Fur Day
Oh man I forgot all about the Game Boy Color version, I remember my brother got a Game Boy Advance for Christmas and one of the games he got was the GBC version of Tony Hawk.
I've been looking forward to this all week. Man, I love your videos
Jet Grind Radio - Did You Know
Yes please
I was thinking the exact same thing. A spiritual successor to Jet Set/Grind Radio called "Hover: Revolt of Gamers" is in the works, get hype.
Kanji Tatsumi Oh damn, Hover looks amazing. Definitely gonna back it.
I was just thinking about how I wished there was a Did You Know Gaming Tony Hawk and then boom. We get one. Hopefully get to see a part two!
Getting Demo disks with your Playstation magazines, the good ole days
I almost bought a Playstation Undergound thing, complete with the disk. But I didn't really care back then, or about 2 months ago.
The second i heard the music omg
so wait, Sony bought a game, and then changed the name, story, mechanics, graphic style and name, and then canceled it? Why the hell did they buy it to begin with?
In the words of Disney's lawyers to Kevin Smith when working on the clerks cartoon:
"We don't know"
6:19 they somehow made it sound even worse
No mention of KISS or Jackass playable characters? I was hoping to hear more about that.
I think the Kiss characters weren't until THUG 1 and Jackass was Thug 2
DJKiske you're right. And in THUG 1 there was a concert level with secret objectives that would unlock either video footage of them live or have their in game models play on stage synched to one of their songs that was part of the ost
My childhood consist of dozens of ps1 demo disk. Never had much money to buy full games, but man I had fun playing the heck out of this game demo with my friends and family.
There's something creepy about that girl's picture cheat
One of my most favorite series growing up. Would love to see more coverage on this.
So many wasted hours on THPS2 on the N64 and THPS4 on the PS2..
Wish I had a copy of THPS4 again, that stuff was the best.
JoeWithTheGlasses
Oh my god, yes. This might sound silly, but that is my all time favorite PS2 game.
IRNatman
Same.
one of the best DYKGs for a while, interesting to know how the series grounded its routes outside of a license title.
That intro song!
So much nostalgia from those games
It's amazing how with a lot of the multiplatform games from that generation a lot of them were better on the Dreamcast it really speaks to how incredible it was at the time and how if Sega handled their business properly the Dreamcast could have lived to beat the PS2 and take its spot as one of the greatest consoles of all time. Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3 was the most memorable one for me. Stalfish Backflip ftw.
Wait a sec, was I reading that right?
Handi-gap: Not good for the kids
Spanky Gap: Apparently fine
I might be reading it the wrong way, but uh...
It's because handi-gap sounds like handicap, and they didn't want to be offensive. Not that spanky gap is very good
snarfweasle
To be honest, Handi-Gap could've gone over their heads. After all, it could be seen as a convenient passage.
This one was awesome! I bet more TH could be done.
weird I was playing this last night and then this video pops up

DYKG - Golden Axe? Shinobi? Sonic Racing series? SSB prt.4? Sonic prt. 3? Mortal Kombat prt. 3?
sonic racing is bad and you should feel bad. but I agree on the rest
... but the sonic racing game are great.... im talking about All Stars and All stars Racing Transformed.
SuperBearcreek CAN ANYONE PLEASE UNDERSTAND THAT SEGA ALL-STARS RACING IS A SEGA GAME AND NOT A SONIC GAME??
Oh yea do the Sonic Racing Series, it has a weird miss match approach to sequels there could be some interesting stuff.
Sonic R, Rivals & Riders
I actually was expected the DS game Sonic Rush to be another racing game given the "R" naming system, that was before there were reviews of it though just a name in a list of DS games in development
MisterSpeedStacking It has the word SONIC in the title
pro skater on ps1 was the 1st game i can remember playing, the amount of nostalgia in this game for me is insane

1:23 Does he mean 1998?
Whenever I hear the tony hawk soundtrack It instantly takes me back :)
You guys should have gotten Pan-Pizza to do this

loved this game as a kid. found it on steam a year ago and immediately relived it. I don't skate in real life or anything, but damn is this game a gem
PT 2 of this?
That opening with the Tony Hawk music gave me such a nostalgia blast
