Yep, same here although Batman forever definitely had more of an impact on me. That still felt like a real Batman movie and was overall just a more popular film. This movie definitely has its own cool factor, but it's absolutely a guilty pleasure these days and I can see the positives in it and it makes it very enjoyable!

I remember as a kid, this going over my head. I didnt know at the time they were both DC characters. Hell i barely knew what DC was. Or even marvel. I figured it was just joke.

The silver lining to this movie is that it lead us to Batman Begins.
And it's pretty good in it's own right.
Eh yeah, but if people would just loosen their anus a bit and step out of the gritty darkness every once in a while, they might actually have fun with this more lighthearted bat-adventure. Batman works in every style and era, that's what makes him iconic. A hero for all seasons and moods.

@CPT_Frostie at one point, Robin actually makes reference to becoming Nightwing. I guess Schumacher was so confident that it would succeed that he teased the potential for a sequel.

@nikolaszuraff1234 in my mind, no apologies were ever needed. It was good enough, and I loved it. As a kid, my knowledge of Batman was limited, but I knew the basics enough to appreciate it for what it was. Campy, corny, and fun to watch. Not truly "Batman," but Batman enough.
I'm going to admit, this movie is definitely a guilty pleasure. For years I avoided it but now after all these crappy trying to be dark for dark sake, it's actually nice to go back and see some of the lighter attempts at Batman that we're all just about having a fun time, the kind of movie that you can bring your kids to and not be nervous about blood and guts everywhere.
You get what you pay for. You wanted a dark DC, you got one. And now you want James Gunn to bring this style back?

Say whatever you want about this film, it was corny, tacky and very silly but the production design was amazing, Mr. Freeze’s suit in particular is a piece of art … and Arnie’s voice … 🙌

Batman and Robin (1997) is just a modern version Batman'66 and Batman Brave and the bold /silver age comics personified. As time passes, I've grown to appreciate the movie for what it is and the kind of comics it was paying homage to.

It ended on a good note. This movie was not as terrible as you might think. I think I see what Joel S. was going for here, too. The late 90s film series feels like an attempt at a combination of the camp of 70s Batman with the grit of 80s Batman.
On principle, I won't spoil the ending for you, but it ties things together at the end, even if it doesn't truly follow the comics. They at least got his rationale and Batman's compassion and empathy with Fries' struggle right.

None of the villains were anything close to what they are supposed to be, George Clooney was terribly miscast, as was Mr Freeze and Batgirl, and the Mr Freezes and Poison Ivys goals were completely incompatible, despite working together.
The only saving grace of this movie is its so bad, its actually kind of fun to watch.
@jacen8425 its still a personal favourite guilty pleasures of mine Arnold looks like he had lots of fun and so far the only live action version of Robin and Batgirl but yes the movie has many flaws but it still is entertaining by being so cheesy and campy unlike Megalopolis a movie I just watched today by Francis cord Coppola my God that movie was awful and boring.

Also the moment where Alfred looks like he’s in pain is a good foreshadowing moment for the reveal of his sickness.

Rewatching scenes from past films gives us hints to how much Rocksteady took from each one. I really think that this was a huge inspiration to the team of developers despite the critics.
This moview was just pure fun! Yes, I loved the darker version of Tim's but, Joel did a good job IMO. Sucks it took almost 30 years for folks to appreciate it. 36.

To keep it real….these films were very Silver Age Batman…the gadgets the suit ups the outrageous villains
Plus the dynamic between a veteran Batman and Pre Nightwing Robin was pretty spot on…
Just saying, this Batman was a part of a bigger universe with the throw away line of "this is why Superman works alone"

I vaguely remember the first time that I saw this car and thought to myself, what a piece of shit. The 89/92 Batmobile plus Forever Batmobile were better designed. This one has an open cockpit and it doesn't really offer much protection. The 66 Batmobile had a detachable glass canopy but it was only seen on the original Futura concept.

okay CONTROVERSIAL opinion here: Butshots aside, I don't think this movie did anything wrong with the characterization of Batman and Robin in this film until Batman thaws out Robin-after that it goes downhill. But think about it, Both Batman and Robin have dramatic entrances. For all the people who complain about the Bat Skates, Batman is so crazy prepared in the comics that he created strategies on how to take out the Justice League. Having skates in his shoes don't seem like a stretch to me and wouldn't be out of place in a comic. Batman's delegating duties to Robin is also consistent with this character. "You take the ice, I'll take the Ice Man." That's what Batman always did-he would take the big thing and Robin the small thing. Though not in this scene, the banter between the two seems like it was lifted from a comic

Then there's Robin's tarzan screams as he falls through the air which is consistent with his status as a circus boy having fun jumping through the air. And for everyone who's angry at his "cowabunga" cry, it's a cry associated with surfing, he's "surfing" across the roof and let's face it that's something a 90s rendition of Dick Grayson would shout in the comics while having the time of his life jumping from one building to another.
Finally, Robin being impulsive and getting frozen is consistent with his status as a rookie.
Terrible as this movie is, insufferable as this movie is, the film got their characterizations right up until this point.
The movie isn’t even terrible, it’s very intentionally supposed to be silly and it’s no different than the 1960’s tv show, the set design and direction of it is really impressive and it doesn’t deserve to be titled the worst movie ever even it’s just a fun movie
You know the opening fight sequence is kind of fun, I think the movie would have been better if they didn't keep introducing new characters and it was just about Batman, Robin and Mr. Freeze

Warner Bros. should create an enhanced version of this film, making it darker and utilizing state-of-the-art AI to do justice to the character and honor Schumacher’s legacy. This movie was pretty hard to watch. I LOVED the dark, film noir-ish quality of the Burton films and revered Michael Keaton’s portrayal of the Dark Knight, so this modern day throwback to Adam West’s Batman was a real slap in the face for me. I get that the studio wanted something more ‘family friendly’, but Batman’s world isn’t meant to be a Disney movie.
Who on earth decided to give Mr. Freeze a rocket ship? What a strange choice.

Directing a toy commercial movie? I mean yes it's really the worst Batman movie ever made, but it has a lot of charms and fun to watch.
Back when 90s the year people don't judge how bad the movie is, you just simply sit down and enjoy the movie.
WB told him to make a 2 hours toy commercial.
He wanted to do something inspired by the 60s TV series in which Batman had a more cartoonish and childish look, but it didn't work out very well. He publicly apologized for it. I think Joel made a mistake trying to get it right. I was 7 years old when the movie came out and although it wasn't my favorite, I had a lot of fun watching it.
