Thank you for the clip, indeed the shortcut and automation work, BUT only until you invoke Siri or receive Apple Maps guidance. In that moment, the audio switches back to Carplay and does not return to your selected output (JBL) after that. It is a bummer, since I want to use the carplay display on my motorcycle, with sound from my phone directly to my intercom headset (so as to have access to all my intercom headset functionality), and this detail (the automatic switching to Carplay audio when using Siri) is ruining my experience.

Does the sound from navigation go to the speaker as well?

When connected to CarPlay and someone calls me I want the phone call audio only to be automatically sent to my cars Bluetooth speakers rather than CarPlay. Is there a shortcut for this?

Search "Call Audio Routing" in settings and select "Bluethooth headset". This will force all calls to be routed to the Bluetooth system rather than CarPlay!

Exactly, I need to do this for phone calls. It's incredible that you can't configure it in the iOS settings.
I also tried using Accessibility, redirecting the phone calls to the headphones and setting my OEM Bluetooth car as headphones, but the trick didn't work.

For me when my iPhone is connected to my car's CarPlay the bluetooth cannot connect to a different device for audio. It's either using the CarPlay or the bluetooth audio device. Any fixes?

That's a strange one. Normally you should be able to select the different audio output (as shown at 1:34 in the video). However, I'm wondering if it's a factory car play unit, maybe your car will disable it's normal bluetooth connection when carplay is detected.

@@TorqueSteer My car originally had only radio. I replaced it with an Andorid Head Unit that fits my car model. I use an external carplay dongle and still it won't connect to the cars bluetooth when I'm using carplay. It lets me connect to my airpods when the carplay is on and it allows me to pass the sound to my airpods without carplay even when the phone is still connected on the cars bluetooth. So there is a strange restriction between the car's bluetooth and carplay.

@@TorqueSteer to make it clear I have to ways to use CarPlay at the same car unit. One is with the integrated CarPlay “zilink” or something and the other is with an external toggle. For both it doesn’t allow me to connect to the car’s Bluetooth after the CarPlay is initiated. But while on CarPlay I can use the Bluetooth sound to listen to music on my AirPods for instance.

That's a very good question. I'm not sure to be honest. I imagine there should be a work around, I mean, android is normally more customisable in this regard.

Thank you! Thank you!! I bought a no-name device late last year and could not get it to work with the aftermarket Bluetooth adapter I had installed in my car. My car does not have an auxiliary port and running through a cassette adapter sounded like garbage. The only thing it won't do is run the automation script. so I have to manually select my Bluetooth adapter everytime I start the car.

Hello, great video! Do you know if the bluetooth device is capable of controlling the phone while carplay is connected. What I mean is, do for example car steering wheel buttons work to change song when a carplay device is used for navigation, but audio is in car radio? Thank you!

In my car (Hyundai Elantra) the head unit called “Phone Projection” will change the output to CarPlay upon playing the Music app. There are no settings or config for Elantra phone projection.

This seems good if it were to work but doesn’t using uConnect for Ram trucks. Even if connected to BT it doesn’t show up in the Share area. So no go.

This is how you redirect a music player audio to the speaker. All other audio (calls, notifications, navigation guidance) are still going through the Carplay device.

This doesn't work for Siri and Naviagtion. For Honda's handfreelink, this is automatic for audio playback in CarPlay. HOWEVER, you can re-direct the Siri and Navigation sound. That's bummer. Anyone has a solution?
