This movie was so heartwarming. I don't usually cry, but I cried a lot. Love has allowed them to prevail against all odds, be it platonic or romantic - that really depends on how you interpret it - a truly fantastic movie. =,)
This movie is lovely as it shows how beautiful friendship between 2 races is, which's I really love it. >< This movie, somehoe, makes me realize that nowadays we, human, are same race and we are firghting everydays as war between countries, or even in the same country. How shame?
It's a fantastic film I will never forget! If only it was given a longer run time, then maybe there could have been a more profound message about learning to love one another. The only downside to this movie is that it doesn't reflect back on how the goats at Pleasant Mountain are handling this friendship Mei and Gabu have. I mean they probably shunned his existence, but it would've been nice to see how Granny, Tap, and Mii are feeling. I wish that by the end of this film there was a realization that the goats and the wolves could've had, that what they were doing was wrong and that there is a way they can live in harmony. I guess that type of ending just wouldn't work, considering goats being the prey of the wolves is a permanent part of the animal kingdom. One wolf and one goat can be friends without ruining the balance, but the entire ecosystem living in harmony is too farfetched. :c I guess the moral of the story is that you may not be able to change the whole world, but you can start something greater by making a new one. :)
I enjoyed it a lot too. Honestly I'm glad they didn't go back and try to do something with the other goat characters. Sometimes people's minds simply can't be changed and the only option is to move on and make a better future for yourself. It's a much more realistic and refreshing take in my opinion. :)
I've thought we weren't supposed to know how the goats were feeling. The same feeling of uncertainty Mei had when he asked himself what they were thinking.
I agree with all your points! I'm watching the later 3D series, which is longer... even though it has certain faults and is a little more child-oriented. I would have liked a somewhat longer tale which went slightly more philosophical. One idea which I think would have fit in well: What if Mei had speculated on the long-term prospect of getting Gabu to convince the other wolves to somehow survive without preying on the goats? He could have floated the idea gently, only to have it cause friction, perhaps... and later asked himself how much of his friendship was genuine and how much was motivated by this desire to save his people. And it could have been an occasional topic of conversation for the duo--would there really be some way to make it work? In the end, there probably wouldn't be, but it would have enriched the narrative, in my opinion. :>
9.5/10. Great, touching story line, good character development, almost Strauss-like soundtrack, beautiful backgrounds, good voice actors. I love how it had some kind of a short film feeling in it. The only thing I missed is maybe a short view on the sheep heard's reaction on Mei not being there anymore. But yeah, it was amazing anyways.
It's a good thing that Gabu is such a blabbermouth, otherwise he might have eaten Mei before getting back his memory. I'm so glad there's a happy end, this anime was so emotional. :)

In the story Mei has no specified gender. In the movie Mei's portrayed as male and I know there's a silly TV show that portrays Mei as female, so all in all, everything is correct depending on what you're referring to :3

Without a doubt the most intense, wonderful story in animation film history. It sticks with you days after first viewing. The score is lush, the style unique, but appropriate. Some small bits may be over-broad to those new to anime, but the story rules over all. An amazing parable for all time...the willingness to sacrifice your own life for your friend/spouse/soulmate, the ultimate act of love... Finding this film is like finding the Star of Africa diamond in a field strewn with coal. See it.
I love it when everyone refuses to accept that even the AUTHOR of the FUCKING BOOK has implied that it's only a FRIENDSHIP In Japan close friendships with the same sex is common. It doesn't always have to mean they are gay jfc guys.
