if you are implying that for Gabu leaving wasn't such a big deal as it is for Mei I'll have to disagree,it may not be what you would normally consider a family by the usual meaning and unlike Mei he appears to feel no love for his companions, yet, unlike the goats, the wolfs aren't as kind and their reaction to rules being broken is a severe punishment, possible death, and I guess you remember that was what they had planned for Gabu.so going back to the point, would it be easy to leave knowing this? I doubt it.
tesin humo I was only considering that you regarded "both" leaving their families, but to answer your question, you'd be right. Though Mei was treated less of a goat in the time that he confessed to being friends with a wolf, not only did Gabu have to endure being seen as an outsider, but he also had to cope with the punishment of death if he strayed from the plan. Also, like Mei, Gabu had lost his mother at one time or another, but was also taunted and teased by the other wolves when he was young. I've actually seen him as the more interesting character compared to Mei, since he had to overcome his predator instincts so early on, because he didn't see Mei as a convenient meal, but as a friend, more so than his own species.
Well I don't agree. I like the idea of them just being epic friends/bros. Why does everything have to be a love story? It's thinking like that that prevent people from forming close relationships for fear others will think they're gay, when maybe they're just really good friends. Why does it have to be a love story? I think it's kinda cute as a love story, but I also kinda like it just being the two of them as close friends.
why are straight people so against gay characters? there's _so fucking many_ straight characters, you don't need to point at two very obviously gay ones and insist they're straight. why are straight people so against gay people having representation?
Gray Mousemouse I'm not against it. I'm just stating my opinion. Believe what you like, but don't insist you are correct. I just prefer the friendship.
These two have known each other for a short period of time, but have bonded so quickly and become so close that they defied the laws set about by their respective communities (and nature itself) in order to remain close, and have now run away from their oppressive old lives in order to start fresh and be together. This is basically the plot to Romeo and Juliet, and y'all still have the nerve to scream "no homo" at this shit.
Er, no!! No no, there's no gayness in Sailor Moon, they're COUSINS! They're- th-they're COUSINS! Yeah! That full-body embracing is just uh... you know. platonic friendship! o_o;;;;; SHUT UP!
Can we all just put this "gay or just friends" debate to rest? It's open to interpretation, believe what you want and just enjoy the damn movie. And by the by, the creator intended for Mei's gender to be unclear, which you can actually pull of with Japanese pronouns. The directors disregarded that by using a distinctly male voice, but yeah.
actually the author always intended Mei to be male but decided to make Mei gender ambiguous and left to the audience's interpretation. So it really doesn't matter, it's a good story about two people wanting to be together whether it's platonic or romantic
People try to make this into a Romeo and Juliet thing; there's two parties dislike each other, but one member of each respective party meet up and love each other to the disdain of both families. My problem with that interpretation is that one group consistently kills the other one instinctively and has no way of fighting that instinct. The other group is innocent. Regardless It is a love story, I'm pretty sure based on the 'secret friends' scene and what I've heard about the end. not the point of the movie imo. It could be about class differences like the Outsiders was, and ethical relativity and prejudice based on.... Oh wait nvm the wolves will eventually kill the fucking sheep in any feasible situation so
I think that they have a very adorable friendship, the romantic relationship between them.... I dont actually think there is one. To me they just seem really friendly, and they just care each others alot. Still, in the tv serie, they changed Mei into a girl, unlike in this versio Mei is a boy. I think that they did it because of some people seeing them too close. When Mei is turned to a girl, its seen more acceptive to think them as a couple. :,>
Oh stfu People with bashing each other about gay or not, The story was intended as a love story between friends. Why does it have to be gay just because they care this much about each other? Sex is literally the only difference when it comes to be being close with someone this much. Friends like this do exist. I don't mind homosexuality I fully support it and If people wanna ship them, then do it. But the story is about two friends fighting for each other whether they have sex or not, it's not a bout a couple.
In Japan, its not uncommon for two of the same sex to be very close. Or anywhere, now that I think about it. I don't see why it has to be such a bad thing in America.
America has two faces: One that is ultra conservative and the other is a drugo thug, because Mr ultra conservative is the dominate power (Tax exempt churches) the result is a strong anti-Homosexual agenda.
I agree, why can't we have close relationships like this between two members of the same sex without it being gay? Is it so wrong to want to be close to someone without getting romantically involved? I mean girls that are really good friends hug each other and even share food/drinks and nobody calls them gay. Why can't guys do the same?
Pie Pierrot Well guys have never done so in the past (save a few cultures) and those behaviors were more common in women, so over time that's how the social structure cemented.
i just think they're really good friend even if mei was a girl a friendship can be just as special and from my personal experiences lasts longer than any relationship. I agree its a love story, but whos to say that love can only be shared between two lovers.
pfffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff- Okay okay starting at 3:20 That made me laugh. It was like: "You try to break apart this great friendship, Mother Nature is PISSED!"
Welcome to the comment section, where everyone ignores the author of the book clearly stating every time that they are friends and not in a relationship in any way.
I believe Kimura meant to leave the reader their own perspective, whether they presume it's platonic or romantic. If you don't believe me, Google Search Yuichi Kimura Interview and you'll find it on Yamaneko.com
they probably do but the whole movie is set up like a romeo/juliet love story and the way mei's character is so feminine and the things he sometimes says just make the whole thing seem to be more than friendship....
Actually Mei's gender is ambiguous but the author of the books has stated that he intended for Mei to be a boy. Mei is female however in the anime/cartoon series.
would of been nice if mei was a girl and it would of been like forbidden love :3 but if it was like that it wouldn't be very unique as beings just friends :3
i know right! It just aggrivates me when people say "oh, their a gay couple", and im like: NO! Dumbass their just FRIENDS! Have you ever heard of the word "friend", did you ever have "Friends?" Yeah..just a little rage there. :)
@SuicidalCandeh Because They can't go OVER it They can't go UNDER it Oh no! They'll have to go THROUGH it! I'm sorry if that goes over your head XD I couldn't resist.
I believe the creator himself was asked about it and he said he left it up to your interpretation, kind of like how Atlus treated the subject with Kanji in Persona 4. Personally, I wouldn't mind if some parents told their kids that this movie was about a gay couple. Kids don't get to see any positive representation of gay couples at all. Kid films either act like they don't exist or they are wimpy and foppish. That leads to bullying when they enter HS or JC and meet gay friends/students.
funny how they show diffrent races, hint at religion but treat gays like they dont exist, arent "political correct" cartoons supposed to treat us to accept eachother
I think they're just destined to be best friends in the movie, but in the Tv series, when mei is a girl, people would maybe be more accepting as them being a couple
Nothing wrong with being gay but they are just best frinds or like brothers T_T its kinda annyoying when ppl say they are gay when theya re not...you know this is for children right? not grown ups
even the animals of the forest ships then...god this is the cutest couple ever!!
they both betrayed and leave their entire families and frinds behind to go live together alone...yes that is such a "friends" thing to do
Like Gabu has any "FAMILY" to return to
if you are implying that for Gabu leaving wasn't such a big deal as it is for Mei I'll have to disagree,it may not be what you would normally consider a family by the usual meaning and unlike Mei he appears to feel no love for his companions, yet, unlike the goats, the wolfs aren't as kind and their reaction to rules being broken is a severe punishment, possible death, and I guess you remember that was what they had planned for Gabu.so going back to the point, would it be easy to leave knowing this? IMMACYCLOPS Guess we agree on all points then (=
Actually, yes it is. You don't need to have sex to be happy. Some friends ARE this close. Non of them were obviously happy with their lives.
Just face it people, _it's a love story._ If Mei was a girl, nobody would be denying it.
This, so much. As I said before in a previous video, I hate the fact that people choose to deliberately ignore this just because they are two men.
Well I don't agree. I like the idea of them just being epic friends/bros. Why does everything have to be a love story? It's thinking like that that prevent people from forming close relationships for fear others will think they're gay, when maybe they're just really good friends. Why does it have to be a love story? they literally had to make mei a girl in the show.
"A forest when wolves and goats can live together"
"a land where men can live together"
These two have known each other for a short period of time, but have bonded so quickly and become so close that they defied the laws set about by their respective communities (and nature itself) in order to remain close, and have now run away from their oppressive old lives in order to start fresh and be together.
This is basically the plot to Romeo and Juliet, and y'all still have the nerve to scream "no homo" at this shit.
I cried like a baby at this part. It was so sad.
I cried out it's too cute it doesn't matter that they are gay or best friend I cried I CRIED
I think it's pretty sad when Mei jumps in the river, cause he does have friends and they're probably going to think he commited suicide or something
Ikr we never heard about his grandmother or friends tho they werent really supportive in any way and has no trust in mei.
I think Giro and that red-haired wolf are pretty gay for each other too
likira111 no homosexuality in cartoons for kids you say? two words: Sailor Moon
Also miss kobayashis dragon maid the best of all
Er, no!! No no, there's no gayness in Sailor Moon, they're COUSINS! They're- th-they're COUSINS!
Yeah! That full-body embracing is just uh... you know. platonic friendship! o_o;;;;;
SHUT UP!
A perfect moment to end this part.
My eyes got watery... This is such a great anime ^_^

The movie did do well with balancing the negative aspects of both sides :)
Shouldn't Mei be able to jump those rocks like a pro? He is a goat. xD
meis eyes so cute and innocent nghh
ここで物語が終わるのだと思っていた俺が甘かった
the river looks like diarrhoea lol
I think it can be up to interpretation
I see them as a couple tbh
I think that they have a very adorable friendship, the romantic relationship between them.... I dont actually think there is one. To me they just seem really friendly, and they just care each others alot.

What a cute story.
love can come from anywhere, and anyone can love another. It is neither gay or straight, it's universal.
Every time i look at this movie i think of Romeo & Juliet, i seriously do.
1:30 Chocolate river :D

I suppose, but at least people in Japan are more... Accepting of this relationship than say the Westerners.

Jay Lavistria We must uncement it! XD
I'm curious about Gabu's sentence endins. He always seems to say something like "yan-desune" or maybe "yanzune"... anyone got a clue? :]
its just a speech pattern, really. like, some teenage girls say "desu yo ne" or something
hamtaro says "na no da"
bijou says "desu wa"
etc etc
kiss :3
i know that WE would like to think in that way XD.
Soooooooo Sadddddd :(
優しいガブまじですき
theres a water hazard in every animal folktale i watch
Who knew the animal kingdom was so nosy.
This movie's soundtrack makes me want to play Professor Layton for some reason...
Jesus, there's still 3 more parts?
there is a TV series? Link please?
Well actually Mei is a girl..but here he is a boy :D its more adorable if he was a boy
i just think they're really good friend even if mei was a girl a friendship can be just as special and from my personal experiences lasts longer than any relationship. I agree its a love story, but whos to say that love can only be shared between two lovers.
yuh, why does the river..... look like that
i think its meant to be when the water is rushing so fast and hard the mud from crags and banks and the ground makes it very muddy and brown
pfffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff- Okay okay starting at 3:20 That made me laugh. It was like: "You try to break apart this great friendship, Mother Nature is PISSED!"

***** When did Yuichi Kimura say that?
I believe Kimura meant to leave the reader their own perspective, whether they presume it's platonic or romantic.

1:16 Lol awkward....
Japanese TV is different than American TV. Parents are a lot more lenient on what their kids can watch and hear.
there's one there now D:
Gabu x Mei... >///
would of been nice if mei was a girl and it would of been like forbidden love :3 but if it was like that it wouldn't be very unique as beings just friends :3
That looks like some nasty ass dank ass water
LOL
0:11ミッキーマウスで笑う

There's nothing wrong with being gay either...
i know right! It just aggrivates me when people say "oh, their a gay couple", and im like: NO! Dumbass their just FRIENDS! Have you ever heard of the word "friend", did you ever have "Friends?" Yeah..just a little rage there. :)
@GoldAnnaple xDDD~!!! Oh wow
They legit ran away from their families together…
@SuicidalCandeh
Because
They can't go OVER it
They can't go UNDER it
Oh no! They'll have to go THROUGH it!
I'm sorry if that goes over your head XD I couldn't resist.
Am I the only one who got a flashback from 'The Boy in the striped pyjamas'?! I don't know why but I guess the plots are quite alike!
i know that now -.-'
I believe the creator himself was asked about it and he said he left it up to your interpretation, kind of like how Atlus treated the subject with Kanji in Persona 4. lol the mountain looks like pikes peak!
since when could you say bastard in a movie for kids
I love this movie so much (:
Are they just friends though, or are they like.. a gay couple?
Freaking adorable either way C:
If Gabu trained Mei to become a predator, those sheep were in big trouble.
なんか、アメリカ人のコメント見ると、ガブとメイがゲイのようだと解釈しているけど、大きな誤解。決してゲイじゃない、友達だ。でもなんかメイに萌えちゃう。メイがショタみたい・・・。
Hahahaaa

@subanimehd2 lol its a river
funny how they show diffrent races, hint at religion but treat gays like they dont exist, arent "political correct" cartoons supposed to treat us to accept eachother
that water is full of shit? :D
Oh so gay people and gay romance is "inappropriate for children"?
I think they're just destined to be best friends in the movie, but in the Tv series, when mei is a girl, people would maybe be more accepting as them being a couple
no dislike on this movie so.... chucck norris aprove!
I know right C:
the biggest arguement about these two being gay in my eyes is that even trough it exist in real life, you never see homosexuality in kids cartoons
why disnt they just go AROUND it!?
@Pikachoox3 Why does it matter how they like each other? Believe what you want! It's not really part of the story.
FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
Nothing wrong with being gay but they are just best frinds or like brothers T_T its kinda annyoying when ppl say they are gay when theya re not...you know this is for children right? not grown ups
SHUT UP! they aren't gay...it isn't wrong in being that but! they are only close best friends or like brothers!!! BUT IN THIS FILM THEY AREN'T GAY
Why can't I respond?
EDIT: Never mind.
