But would you have the patience and dedication to put it all together like this? There are some qualities money can't buy and Joel has plenty of them.

I was pleased to see a PC in the collection too. About half way through I was getting a bit concerned there wouldn't be one. I was digging all the retro and modern consoles but my concerns were put to rest. You can tell his real passion is with the consoles though.
I love that you're an Aussie, too. Most people would expect the owner of the biggest video game collection to be an American.

Amazing setup Joel. A lot of people these days have their consoles modified with HDMI on HD TV's, but you can't beat the look and feel of playing on decent CRT screen.
This is Silicon Heaven ! I had my Spectrum in 1983 and still game to this today... to be able to play Head over Heels on spectrum, treasure island dizzy on Amiga right through to Last of Us and Monster World on Ps4 in one room! Amazing clean tidy and put together well... all to be played under the stars as well ! Thank you for sharing this 🕹

Glad to finally see the finished product. The room is awesome man, it came out really well. I'd live in there too if it were my room, lol. Now that you're done, do you want to come and organise mine? Haha. ;) You would think that would be easy since I don't have anywhere near the amount of stuff you do, but yeah I still struggle with my humble setup. But that's because I have to contain it all to my bedroom until I can move again hopefully sometime next year.
Anyway, glad to see the simulators have their own little section. If I were one of the friends you mentioned who visited, I'd just be on those all day. I like the blue for the wall behind them, as well, but when you were talking about not knowing what to paint it the thought that came to my mind immediately was a chequered flag, because that's your little racing corner. However I suspect the black and white wouldn't go well with the rest of the room. The blue does. It looks great.
Finally, it's nice to see someone else who cares about magazines. Everyone says print is dead and yet I love it every single time a magazine arrives in the mail. EDGE, Game Informer, whatever. It's still a small thrill and has been ever since I was a kid. I hope they never go away. :)

Edit: with such a sick set up, I think the only thing that needs an upgrade is that keyboard. That's my opinion though, don't matter xD
i regularly see people with Mega SGs and things of that ilk, where they have all their consoles from 8bit to current gen all hooked up to one massive LCD display. and whenever you do that you will inevitably be making compromises somewhere. the reality is old games look better on old TVs, and new games look better on new TVs. i currently own 7 TVs in my house with a mix of CRTs and modern displays and the way joel sets his stuff up is exactly the best way to do it. a good CRT with RGB is 2d heaven.

Love the Shadow of the beast music in the background when you were talking about the Amiga. Joel you could put a wall shelf near the TV to incorporate the Amstrad 464 but i am sure you have gone over the design of the room numerous times. Amazing play room and Amazing video as usual :)

Looks super clean Joel. I know it's too damn early for suggestions but if you get bored with the setup I'd add some 80's, 90's and '00 themed decorating to the walls. For instance the 80's retro theme could have (pho) exposed brick on the wall. 90's could have speckled gray and '00 Modern could have textured/brushed aluminum. For the simulators I'd get a vinyl mural printed of the opening view of Outrun (1986). Think fully pixelated palm trees and cover the back of that alcove wall floor to ceiling. :D

Drill your holes from each side of the cabinets to stop the blow out.
9:50 another way is to coil it into a circle, it's neat and will never damage the where the cable mold enters the controller.
Great collection, that must've taken quite a long time, and bet that 27" PVM cost a few grand, I've never seen bigger than a 20".
What's it like dusting everything? I have one shelf with a Sega Saturn and PS1, it always gets dusty. Had to buy a new duster. P.S love the angled shelves, good idea.

Awesome set-up, just unbelievable really. Very jealous mate. Can't believe you used to cut out adverts for games from C&VG to make covers for pirated games - I used to do exactly the same!! Sometimes even going as far as making full boxes for them. Ah the good old days. :-)

every time joel you blow me away, bloody amazing. One thing if i may suggest with your controllers. get some foam and cut out inserts for your controllers, like people do with their gun cases. It looks so clean and you don't have to worry about controllers bumping or scratching each other.

Right Joel me bags are packed when am I coming to stay!! I can clean but dont cook :) and I love games, I can also do odd jobs round the house and able to top up a refreshing beer lol. GF has been told im leaving for a least a year as got a back catalogue of games I need to catch up on in Australia lol. Fantastic room and really enjoyed how this has all come together over the months. I think this is the setup we all dream off as gamers. 2 thumbs up.
