There are some true works of art among those homes on wheels. I have to wonder how many of those vanners are (a) nomads; (b) full-timers; (c) weekend warriors; (d) digital, remote workers; (e) workcampers; (f) traveling nurse or other gig worker; (g) refugees from the late, great America. How they handle vehicle registration, taxes, insurance etc. I know BW has covered a lot of this. However things are changing and I'm not sure all the old advice works anymore. Example: I tried about three years ago to get a USPS PO box. They required an address 'where you park your car at night'. It's supposedly part of the Dubya Bush's Patriot Act. Like that's going to deter another Twin Towers attack. It's just going to hamper the victims of his 2007 economic collapse from living after losing their job, house and employment due to his ineptness as president.

Trail Angel here! I've watched some of your hiking videos and am pleasantly surprised to find you exploring the RTR. I've been following Bob Wells and other van dwellers for some time now. I think a video about the similarities of what hikers carry vs what car dwellers carry would be interesting. Needs are so similar: finding a place to sleep, do laundry and resupply come to mind first. Carry on!

@@MarmaladeOutdoors absolutely run with it! I actually made a similar comment to Bob Wells a couple of months ago but didn't get and feedback from him so it's yours. And we host in Lake Isabella should you do hiking out our way. We let hikers glamp here and provide water, electric, bbq grill, shower and laundry facilities. We never charge nor accept donations 😉

@@monikalenz2559 thank you so much and what you do is so increase. When I hiked the PCT I went into Ridgecrest from Walker Pass. Isn’t that the pass you go from the other way past Onyx or am I getting that wrong. Either way thank you for what you do!

@@MarmaladeOutdoors correct. Walker Pass is on highway 178 which goes west to Bakersfield and east through Ridgecrest and beyond. I'm not sure why hikers go to Ridgecrest instead of Lake Isabella and Kernville. We lived and worked in Ridgecrest for decades. It's a working community and not at all walkable. Hotter than the Kern River Valley too. The KRV is recreational with plenty of camping areas, much easier walking from place to place and a cheap shuttle bus service. It's usually an easy hitch from WP to Lake Isabella. We hosted over 50 PCT through hikers this season. Some of them went whitewater rafting on the Kern River and loved it. I think some of the comments in Farout gave the area a bad rap but heck, we love it here much more than Ridgecrest.

Chrome of Vancity Vanlife is the first person who I saw that used the unusual paint on his vehicle. I've been watching Cheap RV Living and Vancity Vanlife for years. HOWA is the sister channel for Cheap RV Living. There are so many people worth watching, and so many who have no idea how to start a TH-cam channel. Some are young people out to save money, and others are elderly and have been priced out of home. They don't have the money for an apartment, and cannot work to earn it. My heart started to beat faster when I came upon these channels, but I'm still waiting to get out there. My car is unreliable, and just broke down again.
I was looking for a newbie view of the RTR, and you have given it to me. Thank you. I saw one or two people I follow, but there are so many more I wish I knew. I do not understand how so many older people can afford all the expensive build-outs, but kudos for them. I wish them long, happy journeys doing the things they want to do.

👏. So much talent & ideas on many conversions. Beyond my pay grade. Ideas abound.
Nomadland = 👏 to see the reality for most nomads.
As u know I’ve been a nomadic Snowbird since 2011. Spent every winter in Az, except this year. Posted up for weeks/months at a time from Flagstaff to Yuma; Tucson to Lake Havasu. Only brief visits to Quartzite due to the crowds. The RTR is an excellent source & connection. Hope u got a good sense of that lifestyle. Living off the grid can be 👍
