  • This is a sound effect fix for Sega Saturn with VA0, VA0.5, and VA0.8 board while using a TPUNIX Saroo SD card loader.
    1st and 2nd methods were based on my tests.
    3rd method is based on this Github link: github.com/tpu... issues/35
    Note: The 3rd method will not allow to use the Video CD MPEG Card add-on properly, DO NOT do it if you want to use Video CD add-on.

    After months of trying different rips of games and firmwares, the B7 pin cover is what finally took care of ALL my sound issues. Thanks a bundle!

      @@fastandfurious3173 same question. maybe others just want to gatekeep (anti-mods). Or don’t have the skill to open the console. I just shrugged them off. I’m doing this for free anyway.

    I have audio glitch problems but it also gets progressively worse until every game I've tried freezes up, doesn't load the next screen, graphical artifacts, etc. I ordered an "Ultra" version Saroo that's all brand new parts and chips with a version of 1.66 stamped on the PCB along with a manufacture date of February this year. When I first boot these games they are totally fine for several minutes so I don't think it's just a matter of cleaning the slot or anything. It's a VA0 Japanese Saturn and I've tried every firmware on multiple SD's in both FAT32 and exFAT. I'm going to try this just to see what happens, but if anyone else is having this issue, please chime in.

      @@DamfinoMR2 Yes, I used to have the same graphic and sound glitches too in most games. I am using the Elite Saroo version (blue board) from AliExpress, with the latest firmware. I haven’t encountered it again since I did the tape fix.

      The issues you are describing is exactly what happened to me. I have the same model Saturn as pictured in this video.... the one with all the wires taped to the top cover (VAO Japanese) I got my Saroo back in May and after searching the Saroo issues message board, I was informed that taping the B7 pin mentioned here would solve the audio/video issues you describe and it did. It isn't very hard to do as I am a complete novice at opening up consoles and attempting any types of repairs, but within about 10 -15 minutes, I was able to locate the motherboard, tape up the pin. and put everything back together. After using this trick I can now enjoy the use of the Saroo, albeit with a few issues which might spring up every now and again (about 3% of the time). Edit: So after following this video, I also just removed the background pcm file that plays in the menu and that resolved the other audio glitches (in the form of popping sounds that would emit from the speakers as the games loaded up or changed scenes) This now eliminates that remaining 3% of issues I had mentioned above.

      @@MarioMartinez-nu9yw glad it helps. On certain games (die hard the arcade), selecting monaural sound in the option will also get rid of the sound glitch if still exists even after the tape solution.

      @BacklogGaming-Ph Tape fix didn't change anything on my VA0 Japanese Saturn. I bought a US MKII Saturn and now it's fine.

    I have this issue too, guess it is either do this or get a different sega saturn. The product pages on aliexpress should advise model 1 owners that the issue may happen. As is the saroo is basically of no use to me :(

    Is there a reliable way of testing if you have this issue?
    I sure if I have this problem, I haven't noticed weird sounds.
    I have a model 1 JP Saturn.

      For me, it happens all the time on almost every game when I didn't have the tape. What is your Saturn Board version and What is your Saroo Cartridge?

    Hi can u not take the case off the Saroo cartridge & cover the non required pin on that ? To save opening up your console , as you may want to use another type of cartridge in the slot

    • @BacklogGaming-Ph
      @BacklogGaming-Ph  10 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I think covering the pin on the cartridge gives you no SFX. The interference happens because of an extremely long clock conductor path inside the Saturn old board. Doing the tape fix makes that path around 20% shorter.

  • @SegaFanatic5188
    @SegaFanatic5188 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    You shouldn't have to modify your Saturn to deal with an issue with a Flash Cart. The Saroo devs need to figure out a better solution for this.

    • @Sleekgent

      I think it was mentioned at the end of the video.

    • @BacklogGaming-Ph
      @BacklogGaming-Ph  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      It was just a simple and temporary solution if someone with the skill wants to fix it NOW. If ever a fix on firmware update comes out, then just remove the tape. Easy. Again, this is not for everyone. If you cannot do or doesn't want it, then just wait for the firmware fix.

      @@BacklogGaming-Ph Honestly I'm not sure the devs have any intention to fix the the issue. They seem to be more focused on gimmicks and shifting blame with these things. One thing I'm curious about is if anyone has tried adding shielding to the Saroo cart itself to see if it's the source of the apparent signal noise the devs are claiming is causing the problem.

    • @BacklogGaming-Ph
      @BacklogGaming-Ph  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@SegaFanatic5188 Yes, there is a chance that they wouldn't fix it at all. That's the reason why I shared this, to save other Model 1 owners for doing tedious research. I also thought about adding shielding on the cartridge, but other testers already pinpointed that the error happens inside old Saturn board clock circuit. Because maybe the game SFX data should be coming from the CD and not on the expansion memory slot. I have a friend who is testing with me who has model 2 USA and Japanese Sega Saturn, he never encountered this problem. So, if someone wants to buy a Saturn and plans to use Saroo, they should just avoid getting old Saturn versions.

      @@BacklogGaming-Ph Yes I've seen that same post. I'm still curious if anyone has tried adding shielding to the Saroo cart itself.
