Dreamcast for the American market had the greatest release date ever: 9-9-99. Bernie Stolar did a terrific job with Sega's marketing. "It's Thinking." September 9 was yesterday. Peter Moore mentioned it.
Bernie Stolar is the main reason Sega went almost bankrupt. He chose to sell the console at a much bigger loss than originally planned which resulted in Sega losing tons of money on every sale.
@@RetrOrigin they almost went bankrupt because Sony flooded the worldwide market with hundreds of millions of bootleg, counterfeit Dreamcast games because the system had improper protections against these. Typical Sony behavior, really. And while it may be true that it was sold at a loss for them, there's something incredibly admirable about a company not gouging every nickle and dime from the user, and allowing an incredible amount of people to access their great product.

I’m actually getting into video game collecting. I’ve always wanted to when I was a kid but never had the money but now that I finally have my own place I can finally do it lol
Dreamcast had so many great arcade games, I loved playing 'House of the Dead 2', 'Sega Bass Fishing' (with the fishing line controller), 'Crazy Taxi' etc. That system was also kind of my introduction to RPGs with 'Shenmue 1&2', still among my favourite games.
Hands down the greatest video game system..it really was like owning your own personal arcade back in the days. So many arcade games that were never cross console on this treasure.
Out of all of Sega's failures, the Dreamcast is one that really hits home. What a fantastic system! Can you imagine being a Sega developer at the time? What team at Sega ultimately held the responsibility for putting new consoles out there without enough content to support the launch? To me, it's what led to their demise in the console market space.
Not really as you can see there were plenty of games made and like 95% of them were excellent, unlike most systems that can go 50/50 or less in an entire collection with playability/quality. The Sony Playstation was the huge problem as it was only 1 year away and played DVD's where DC did not(A huge oversight on SEGA). People waited for it instead because of that feature. Look at ANY launch of Sony consoles and a huge portion of sales were not to gamers but to regular consumers who just to play DVD/Blu-ray movies since the consumer grade standalone players cost more than the Sony and could not play games. There are several other levels to Sega's failure the bigger ones were not having enough consoles to keep up with demand, a problem with every big console launch it seems, so people went and bought something else that was available for Christmas presents instead of a DC. Then Sega dropped the machine altogether instead of persevering and coming out with a new improved model, when Sony launched, that could play DVD's and an upgrade option for current owners at a minimal price. If they stuck it out I think it would have been a Sony killer if not just true contender that would be around today. The more I read on SEGA & DC the more problems I learn of they created like investing in Arcade Parlors around the country eating up resources(that could have been used to make more consoles available at launch).

I am a big fan of retro gaming, Star Wars and music. Keep up the great work you are doing and Thank you all!!!!
Probably my favorite Dreamcast game is Dead or Alive 2. Better than the Playstation 2 version, where they messed up the boss fight against Tengu with a stupid graphic filter.
Vigilante 8 part 2 does not belong in the racing title vehicle combat ala Twisted Metal it belongs more to the action genre or where Wild Metal segment was.
Don't think I saw Sonic Adventure 2, Power Stone 2, Shenmue II (JP/EU), Daytona 2001, DOA2, RE Code Veronica, WWF Royal Rumble, Fighting Vipers 2 (JP/EU), Mortal Kombat Gold, Zombie Revenge. So I would recommend strongly any of those that aren't in your collection.

Dude I just found this reply ,,fell out of chair laughs ,I'm not sure if MJR is savvy proper to get your joke ,,that's killer dude ,,on a retro game collecting channel no less ,,hee hee hee ,if you get the chance checkout Captain Frugal's channel ,,, sometimes it's Fun ,,😋🤪👍
Lmfao 🤣😆😆🤣
@@wyldelf2685 He's a scam. He feeds off the uninformed. Notice no matter what his video is he always needs money. He's worse than the church. If he really needed money he would sell some games that people donated. He wants to keep those though. He prefers cash.
@@wyldelf2685 I'll check out the captain. Thanks. I'll comment on his channel.
@@johnnycigar2061 it seems like companies send him products for free in hopes of a good review ,,a gaming TH-camr that gets 3000 views on average or more tends to get noticed by these product companies ,,then TH-cam notices and starts putting higher caliber adverts on their videos ,,some TH-camrs will constantly beg that you hit their Patreon (donate to them ) or the can't make a phone podcast ?? after time some of it gets crazy ,,,I simply enjoy it for content , conversation and a little networking ,, if something I find out can help someone that's great too ,, remember main purpose of TH-cam is entertainment and info ,,sometimes MJR has cool content and other times it's a "Look at all MY wonderful stuff"type of thing ,, TH-cam is supposed to be Fun ,not therapy ,,,👍
Hydro Thunder was the original reason I picked up a Dreamcast. Looks like you don't have it! Excellent port!
Thanks for doing this video. No idea some of the games I picked up super cheap years ago (when the system was still alive and I lived out west on the border of Redmond/Bellevue) were actually worth as much as they are. I am usually hunting these things down after they are laughing at me, ready to break my wallet.
Thanks also for sharing some great titles I would concur with you are must-haves on the Dreamcast. One game I didn't discover until much later was Record of Lodoss War. I kinda tossed it aside into my backlog initially, but it is a VERY good dungeon crawler, similar to Diablo 2, but better. Glad to see Bangai-O (developer: Treasure, creator of Gunstar Heroes) in the closing sequence -- it's one of the better titles on the Dreamcast too, in my opinion.
Excellent SELECTION JESUS,,,,,,,Great JOB,,,,,i,m seen I have seen some title that I did not know, it is appreciated........Thanks Mundo Makina
Great Collection Metal,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Excellent Machine,,,,,,,,,Excellent Exposition and Collection,,,,,,,,My Felicitaciones from Spain,,,,,,,Saludos Friend....
Chu Chu Rocket is so good! I was bummed when they took it off of the Google store.
Need the 2 DC racing games I probably played the most, Test Drive Le Mans and V-Rally
Really, racing games without DAYTONA USE ???
You disaponted me
My favorite game system to collect for but also difficult.
3:03 That's the SAME killer rabbit that Monty Python and the Holy Grail faced and had to "Run away, Run away" from.
that’s what’s really awesome about the dreamcast (and it was also sadly it’s downfall due to piracy) that porting games or publishing your own original games is really easy
SEGA SEAMAN BABY #avgn
Should be the most complete console ever made..
MJR called me a pecker. =(
I love your channel!!! My first system was an Atari 2600 (an old heavy sixer lol)! I reside in Ventura County. It's north of Los Angeles. I know you like to check out video game stores. I highly recommend you and/or your team check out Pastime Legends Video Games and Arcade Showroom in Ventura. So many games even for the classic Atari systems! I got Turmoil, Phoenix, Berzerk for the 2600, Qbert and Mario Bros. for the 5200 and Food Fight for the 7800. I highly recommend a visit next time you are in So.Cal. I am a big fan of retro gaming, Star Wars and music. Keep up the great work you are doing and Thank you all!!!!
Typing of the Dead is crazy expensive now. That's a bummer.
Probably my favorite Dreamcast game is Dead or Alive 2. Better than the Playstation 2 version, where they messed up the boss fight against Tengu with a stupid graphic filter.
If metal Jesus rocks runs for president, he’s got my vote! Make American rock again!
Vigilante 8 part 2 does not belong in the racing title vehicle combat ala Twisted Metal it belongs more to the action genre or where Wild Metal segment was.
Skies of arcadia is amazing, so is grandia 2
My Bro, you are a cool dude, but the goatee has got to go. That shit is out of date.
me who just sold their Dreamcast :
Let's see what I can't have
Don't think I saw Sonic Adventure 2, Power Stone 2, Shenmue II (JP/EU), Daytona 2001, DOA2, RE Code Veronica, WWF Royal Rumble, Fighting Vipers 2 (JP/EU), Mortal Kombat Gold, Zombie Revenge. So I would recommend strongly any of those that aren't in your collection.
I was wandering if I'd see MvC2
Hey metaljesus how do I make my PS1 play games in hd I know I can play on PS3 but it doesn't make it hd
You need to pick up Test Drive Lemans it's an amazing racing game. Probably the best racing on the Dreamcast
Who else was as dumb as me and turned their TV sideways the first time they played Gunbird on the cast?
Berserk probably also went up in value since the manga creator passed away :(
The DreamArena online tech went on to power the N-Gage Arena (online multiplayer and leaderboards.)
I am the only one who thinks Retro game TH-camrs are running out of content. These "here is my collection videos" seem to saying that I can't think of anything to do so I'll do some shots of boxes and make a video of them. They all just follow each other. LGR is the only one doing interesting videos these days.
The pickups with Reggie are still fun but most of the time its just here's my stuff and here is a review of some free stuff I got sent.
Your first Dreamcast video (years ago) was the first video of yours I watched and caused me to sub. Love this sytem!
I looooved my dreamcast back in the day:headhunter, re code Veronica, soldier of fortune, quake 3, half-life, space channel, crazy taxi, soul reaver, jet set radio, berserk ... Good old times..
Resident evil code name veronica was awesome the Sega sports line was legendary also.
I’m sorry but rayman 2 needs a cameo by itself. It shares screen time with no one.
Did I miss if you owned Illbleed? If you don't have it that is an EXPERIENCE and definitely worth it!
“Go to shoot um ups”. They are all the same game. Just start smashing buttons.
No NHL 2K2???!
What about the horror game ill bleed
The Wii before the Wii , the First system to have fishing and so on.
Your collection is Amazon man ❤ wow
Dreamcast was my very first console, such a great memories.
This was my first experience with video games as a child. It’s what captured me for gaming. Me and my dad would play and he would do the hard parts of games lol. This video really brings me deep deep joy.
Metal Jesus. It has been an honor to view your videos and witness your appreciation for video games. My question is how come there is no love or mention of Rez. That is probably the #1 Dreamcast game I could never turn down playing. That game has to be in your list above all others. Ultimately, The design was ahead of its time. I think you would agree.
A game that I played a lot when I was a kid was Coaster Works. You essentially have to blueprint a rollercoaster which is radical enough for the audience but won't murder them with G-force at the same time. Then you get to see your rollercoaster in action in first person. It's pretty cool.
I've been going through all my favourite Dreamcast games lately and making short gameplay videos on them. Love the system! Absolute favourite console growing up. Glad to see other Dreamcast fans out there still.
