Beat this one as a teenager multiple times. My style was just run wall jump enemies, and also a lot of the jump-head grab-throw enemies, specially fun to do on stage 1 and 4 to throw them off the cliffs. Once you get Chin just use his lunch to kill everyone fast. Not even Ranzou is a great rival to Chin. Using Ranzou was the run was on outrun enemies and kept wall jump kick the enemies and throw some shurikens here and there. Only using the helicopter kick is boring, you have those other alternatives to make the gameplay more fun.
This is my favorite Double Dragon game. I never understood why people think it's hard. I think 2 is way harder. The arcade version of DD3 is kind of crap, though.
The final boss can be kind of frustrating and sometimes falling in a pit where the game doesn't really respond properly to jumping all the time fan also be annoying. But this game is a great game overall. And the challenge of the final boss is a good one. Makes you work.
In the ending it says Chin stayed friends with the dragons, but Ranzou just became emperor. He did not remain friends with the dragons, I assume. Did not give a shit, never talked to them again. They sent him letters, but he ignored them, left unopened.
26:09 you are right, you get +1 continue after the Italy stage-- if you died and continued, you'd get another continue after starting Egypt stage. But always only 1-continue per stage for only the last 2 stages.
There's a lot to like about this game. I just wish it had lives. I don't think DD gets enough credit for the music and the graphics especially, since they're some of the best on the NES and nobody ever mentions them.
The arcade version was Rosetta stones it had a different developer depending on the cabinet u could have three players also it was one of the first to introduce micro transactions it had shops u could by weapons and moves in the game
Mike I remember when you did a gameplay a few years ago, just using the spinning kick. This is the DD3 I used to play in the 90s. Lot of nostalgia about this one. The music are awesome, love the China stage track. And you can select multiple characters (Chin's my favourite)!

I know I mentioned it in a recent Livestream, but I would love to see you stream Dark Cloud on PS2. It combines many other genres and game elements into a well put together game, action RPG, world building, and stuff like that. I can't begin to describe how much I love Dark Cloud lol

You should check out Dragon Ball Z 5, a Famicom bootleg, that game is the hardest beat-em up for any 8-bit system. It's borderline impossible due to the boss fights.
This game was a nightmare trying to conquer years ago for me, especially trying to beat that final boss it nearly broke me. Strangely the struggles I had with this game made me genuinely like the game over time like with other games.

I haven't beaten battletoads and bayou billy I still can't beat it even after putting many hours into it and that's saying a lot for some of the games I've beaten. There is a romhack for this called double dragon 3 deluxe, which makes the game more fair: It gives you a longer life bar, more special weapon uses, you can select jimmy in a one player game and you do more damage to the enemies and they do less damage to you.

Squadron thru probably a good 50 times thruout the years, but I'm not gonna backseat game the whole time.
@@kurtheilman3809 It might be more or less grindy for you, but what I do to make money is play the Fortress mission over and over and always die on the boss, and take no weapons with me. When you do that, it trains your reflexes more, gives you the most cash for any level up to the last 3 (around 50-60k iirc), and it fills your bullet power, too. Try that out next time you play, but also take any spare truck missions during that mid section as well, and obviously take out the B-2, the stealth fighters, and the submarine asap. You get 3 continues, an extra life at 30k points and 100k points, so that really gives you a lot to work with to build up your cash. I also typically don't even bother with buying an early jet, I just wait till I have 1m to get the badass jet, unless I'm doing a challenge run.
I liked this nes game, it seemed harder than DD2 but it really isn't you have to use the other characters to make it all the way to the end at least that's the way i remember it

This game had every opportunity to be great and just dropped the ball with the sluggish gameplay and insane difficulty on the bright side I liked the new abilities unlockable players and narrative
It's not very hard at all, once you learn how to go up/down to avoid horizontal attacks. The first day I got it I made it to Egypt no problem, the first time a friend of mine streamed he also made it to the last level.
Is there anybody who thought all the Double Dragon's had better gameplay on the NES than the Arcade versions? Of course the graphics were better in the Arcade but the slowdowns were terrible and the Arcade Double Dragon 3 was just plain bad IMO with a very choppy framerate.
Not great but not awful. Surprisingly its the easiest of the double dragon trilogy. Double Dragon 1 is super hard, Double Dragon 2 has the hardest platforming
DD III... jeez. As an 11 year old kid I bought DD2 for NES and beat it. It took me awhile probably because of the jumps haha. I beat it and was really proud. When DDIII came out I needed it. Beat em ups are my thing. Double Dragon III sucks assholes. I will not say otherwise even as an adult (I already dated myself). It's a terrible game. You have to basically cheez the game to win. If you have to rely on that, the game is shit and unbalanced.
I had this game growing up, whoa boy was it a cast iron bitch to get through, definitely had a system of checks and balances, could've been amazing but the fact you had only one guy to get through the entirety of the game sucked.

The only way I made to the 2nd level as a kid is spamming helicopter kick. Looks like this tactic works perfectly fine for the rest of the game too.
Way funnier to play if you do the jump head grab-throw. Specially in stage 1 and 4 where you can throw them off the cliff

Not great but not awful. Surprisingly its the easiest of the double dragon trilogy. Double Dragon 1 is super hard, Double Dragon 2 has the hardest platforming
DD III... jeez. As an 11 year old kid I bought DD2 for NES and beat it. It took me awhile probably because of the jumps haha.
I beat it and was really proud. When DDIII came out I needed it. Beat em ups are my thing.
Double Dragon III sucks assholes. I will not say otherwise even as an adult (I already dated myself). It's a terrible game.
You have to basically cheez the game to win. If you have to rely on that, the game is shit and unbalanced.
A true testament
I had this game growing up, whoa boy was it a cast iron bitch to get through, definitely had a system of checks and balances, could've been amazing but the fact you had only one guy to get through the entirety of the game sucked.

This is the only version of DDIII that's decent as far as I know. The arcade version isn't even good.
