Double Dragon 2 was so much better. DD3 could've been decent, but was way too short, the bosses can kill you in 2 hits, and no extra lives. We need Super Double Dragon on the Switch, DD Advance, too.
I like how they couldn't even be bothered to come up with a story reason for why you go to Italy. For practice? Who are you fighting? I assume in China and Japan the people you're beating up are guarding the stones. Hell, why even have Hiroku have the third stone? Just have it be in Italy!

I could never say anything bad about DD3 because that was the first time in my life a sequel came out and I understood what that meant. I was that young. I remember playing DD1 and DD2, but just having the general knowledge that they were different games, I didnt know which is which. But I remember when this came out, expecting and getting new features like moves and new levels and bosses etc. It felt like a huge deal to me. I remember the box having a DD3 poster of the cover art. I wish I still had it.
How about Double Dragon Neon? Now THAT game is VERY VERY VERY difficult!!!! I even think it's more difficult that Double Dragon III. And yes, it seems like a stretch to say this. But, Double Dragon Neon is RIDICULOUSLY difficult. I rank it next to BattleToads. Double Dragon III only has 5 levels. Double Dragon Neon has I think about 16 levels.

Yes my brothers and I always compared it to tiger knee from sagat from street fighter think you had to jump then do some combination while they are in the kneeling position recovering from the jump
Egipt platforming at the beginning can be done just by Billy's forward jumping kick. Billy's spinning kick is good when enemies come from both sides. Aside of that - why not just punch/kick, or if they are at both sides but far away - forward jumping kick here and back is also good... I think that this is the matter of the next issue - punching with Chin (if enemies somehow got through your punch barrage then yeah, Billy could have more problems with punching/kicking as well). This You should practice to have the fastest possible punches (not to mistake with fastest button mashing) - here You had problems with Chin as these were too slow (or buttons mashed too fast and some werent counted in) and enemies cought You between Your attacks. Chin is the best for the ninja, but Billy can handle non-ninja stages the best I think. And Italy boss can be safely taken out by Ranzou's ninja blade after nunchukcs are used, just as final boss (You definetely nailed that one ;) ) And I also agree with those that said this one is the easiest. Floor traps in DD3 Japan are no match in brutality with moving stones in final stage of DD 1. DD2 is most awful - contols are just messy as hell with the directions and final boss - for me is much harder than those of DD1 and DD3.
Despite a lot of flaws (dissapearing characters..... Bimmy and Jimmy, etc), I've enjoyed this one the most in the entire series. DD2 is a blast and better looking over all, but something about this one is more fun as time went on. Imo, the best attack in this game is Chin's regular punch. So good on regular enemies (as I can see you already know). For bosses, Chin's regular punch again and even better with the Claw, and Yagyu's tumble high jump kick (where he comes down on an opponent with his foot. Also, i see you know that. lol). The latter works amazing on the mummies (like 6 hits, if I remember), then when you get to the last boss, that tumble high kick and Chins Claw gets the job done fast.

It's loaded with shitty platforming, and every level has at least 1 or 2 instant death pits. Neither game is easy per se, BUT I don't think 3 is that much harder than 2 besides the last level

I forgot just how short this game is. Each level has two, maybe three areas that take about 2 minutes each to go through. You're probably looking at around 5 minutes per level, if not less.
It was a rainy day when I was a kid and I played this all day and made it to the very end with plenty of health and I believe a few lives as I was fighting the final boss I jumped into the air and the game froze,I left my system on the entire day hoping my character would come back down and he never did,30 plus years later and I'm still pissed, easily my worst moment in gaming besides not being able to beat the last boss on dead to rights.

There's no debunking this turd. Despite the characters having multiple moves, the only way to even have a chance is to spam moves. This game is like the bastard child of TMNT and Double Dragon.
It's hard until you learn all the moves. You need to learn the knee smash loop and spin kick without missing it. Then, double dragon 2 will remain the toughest of the series on NES.
The one thing I think is not very realistic and what I would change in this game is that when you're holding a guy and kneeing him in the face how his buddies just stand there with a stick up their ass watching their buddy getting kneed in the face. I would have made it so that the AI wasn't so dumb and when that happens attack the one kneeing his buddy in the face. Because if this happened in a real street fight I can promise you that the two won't be friends anymore.
There were alot of strategies that could get thru the game way faster and preserve alot more Health instead of taking damage from the basic enemies in Italy u can have the enemies follow u near the edge of the top Boulder bring the enemies to u and flip head grab and Toss them From the Top Boulder all the way to the bottom Boulder and they will die and respawn I had my strategies for Speedruns and I use to use Chin's Double jump kick in Egypt To Knock the enemies off the platforms for 1 hit kills And since the ninjas had the weakest health I use to use Chin to Give The E-honda's 500-Handchops 🤣😂 it kills em Quickly!

The main issue once you know what you are doing is the boss rng. Sometimes they dodge you a+b attack every time, and sometimes they cheese you with their attacks where you almost can’t do anything but die. The main issue really is the last boss. But like you did here, if you can get her in he right spot, she can be very easy. I used to beat this with just using billy and no nunchuck use.

neon was a cake walk compared to DD3. Were you leveling up cassette tapes? the max level spin kick is where it's at in neon :)

So, Ryu still doesn't know that you can jump-kick off walls and that you can flip over enemies and throw them...
And the knee move, is that not in this one? (press both buttons when crouched) That would have come in handy a couple of times as well.

That knee move was only allowed in DD2 in DD3 it can't be done it was substituted with that jumping head grab and Toss!!!

This is the game I grew up with along with ninja turtles, ninja Gaiden, and Heavy Barrel. Love NES hard games.

this one is my favorite DD game. Couldn't beat it as a kid. Would get to the last boss with my little sister. Beat it many years later :)
