Really nice. I've owned the TR 8s for a good while now. Nice update, so glad you guys keep showing love to this iconic machine. If you're reading this, I hope you consider 2 things if possible; off-grid/unquantized style recording, and ability to chormatically play all individual instruments.
If Roland make just 1 more update that the flanger and phaser effect also can be used with the individual instruments. Then it is the perfect drummachine.
🎹🎶🎚Again, We need the ability to write note Melodies with the Keys! Many earlier machines can do that, and using "gross tune" with the knobs is too slow. PLEASE complete the UI of these great machines, it would be so easy to grant this wish via a firmware update!

I figured they would eventually add it sooner or later. Now about the chromatic tuning for the TR808 bassdrum, what a PLEASANT SURPRISE!!!!!@ This was totally unexpected and it is greatly appreciated. Thanks again!!!! I'm going to update my TR-8S tonight when I get home from work.
Just recently, about a month ago, I started using my tr-8s after not using it for over a year. Talk about timing 😎😎😎 Being able to tune the 808 chromatically is the feature that I’ve wanted from the beginning.

Roland, if you're reading this, long time customer and supporter here. LOVE the TR8S. I'm wondering if you will you ever add "chromatic" mode?? You know, a function where you can make each instrument chromatically tunable without having to step sequence program each and every note to a single automated tune, but where you can either use the 16 step buttons for 16 chromatic notes and or be able to chromatically play the instruments with a midi keyboard?
if you think Roland listen you are dillusional. Just look at their lack of analog synths. They will do what their board of directors and advertising research division tell them to do
@@DarrenGlen The thing is they have such a wide user base that this gets kinda complicated, For instance, I live in SE Asia and Roland has been king of the market here for decades. If you count populations here spread across even a handful of countries say just Thailand and India and Vietnam, that's almost 2 billion people, and here, you'll see what they actually sell the most of in volume are arranger-style keyboards and digital pianos AIRA isn't as big a deal outside of the electronic music crowd, and neither were the boutique series. The fact that they are still somewhat intent on keeping their electronic music legacy alive allows for things like the TR8S, but to ask them to make analog synths for a tiny fraction of their "real" market (who don't care for those things) is quite unpractical from a business standpoint. This thinking is possibly what guides their rather practical, you could even say modest, business decisions. And as for advertising, they are notorious under-advertisers. I believe that's something money can't buy. They have people going to them, expecting things OF them, without them having to do anything but just keep selling whatever they sell. I respect it. And I LOVE my TR8S.
Roland really need to provide a sofatware like overbridge for Elektron devices , with drivers that don't replace main sound card , and the plugin routing not only audio and midi in real time but also recalls everything saved with session .... PLEASE roland , deeper integration in daws and it's a killer !

I am hoping one day you will add to the Tr 6 S: 1) Micro Timing, 2) the ability to play the step buttons as a keyboard and 3) "iteration dependence (as a wiser person described it) ", for the probability settings and I will be buying a second Tr 6 just because I find it so cool :-) For the Tr 6s Mk2 please consider more RAM memory Peace!
Here's a suggestion Roland - do a plugin version that can talk to the hardware TR8S so I can fill the hardware TR8S with patterns and sounds then upload them to the plugin to use in my DAW without the nonsense of bouncing multiple tracks of audio out the TR8S to audio tracks in my DAW. Similar to what Arturia did with MiniFreak.
I can't wait to install this update (5 months later) 🫨 I do live performances on Twitch and for me, there are two things I really need on the TR-8S. The first is the ability to record a roll for an instrument in INST REC mode and the second is to be able to create a random pattern for a single instrument in a kit, like PATTERN+SAMPLE but for one instrument at a time, with a smart and easy button combination 🌼🐝 Please Roland 🥺🐣✊

I hope the MC-707 is next to update with side chain compression, SH-101 model and other models, and Ableton style follow actions of clips such as random follow.
Figured it out. You have to do a factory reset after the v3 install. Save your patterns to a card, do a factory reset, restart, and magically all the new sounds and patterns appear.
With all due respect, I think most of us want Roland to focus on their current line of products. Everyone that hangs on to out of production gear wants updates for them and who knows you might get it, but seeing how affordable a TR-8S is on the second hand market I really want to suggest you just update your gear.
@@GTChris I get your view but I absolutely agree with @Wagoo: It would cost them a minute to at least reduce the price of the 7x7 Update. The TR8 still is a relevant product, people sell and resell it, it is on stages and studios worldwide ... I dont see what harm would it make do anyone to stay fair to older and less privileged customers. 120 Euro for a Update is a lot of money (450 for a used TR8s is even more)! It is not cool to give other customers with the Updates just free and then expect that everyone else is just cool with it.
Roland, have you fixed the pattern change from external source sync bug introduced after V2.1? If not I see no reason to update from V2. Lovely updates sure, but if I cant sync to my master clock, they are of no use.
Great addition, that will be fun. However I wonder why the tr-8s does not seem to have a spring reverb like the tr8, so that and a way to add a reverb tank could be for next firmware? But good work over all i love my tr-8s :)
Really excellent. The 6/8S are a dream of do it all drumboxes🤩 But why no USB audio/MIDI class compliant mode to use with an iPad ? Even if it means only stereo in/out for the audio. Right now I believe we don’t even have USB MIDI. Maybe for a v3.5 or v4. Keep up the good work ! You’re keeping these babies on top as a true reference.
Now please add Step Condition (like Elektron boxes) in your TR8S firmware version 3.5 or so. For example value 1:2 would play the step once every 2 cycles, 2:2 also once every 2 cycles but on the 2nd time. And so on 1:42:43:44:4 etc With this, the TR8S would be much more powerful especially in live techno, sometime we want an INST to hit just once every 4 bars, with current firmware we need to employ 4 Variations, which is just annoying and prone to error.
In drum machines it would be a big step to integrate an automatic algorithm that indicates the correct balance between the various kick presets associated with each bass preset, currently the big obstacle for improvised live performances. This is the big limitation that DJs/producers like me currently prefer to create balanced rhythm patterns on the DAW rather than obtain a non-professional live balance.
Let us integrate tr8s with daws easily like elektron does, than we all buy a tr8s haha!:) U already have a fine standalone application, why don't just make it a plugin ?:O
So good they update the tr 6s.. However, I wish they would explain how to access the new stuff. None of the update items can be found. (Cr 78 sounds and kits). TR 6S version 2.00
I Backed up my data then installed v3.0, made a factory restore and the new Patterns & Kits are there. Then I restore my data from SD and the new Patterns and Kits are gone.. Is there a way to have both? Can someone please explain the real update method as the one on the Roland site does not seem to work.
What’s wrong is that you give these extra sounds to ‘s’ owners for FREE but you CHARGE for extra sounds if you bought the TR-8. How is that right or fair? If the 707 is free for TR-8S owners then they should be free for the owners of the TR-8. I’d like an explanation please Roland?
I used to think the same way but now I believe that Roland goes out of its way to update their current product lineup and I understand, from their business point of view, the decision to stop updating legacy products such as the OG TR-8. You can always sell the TR8 and upgrade which is what I did and I have zero regrets. Just having the capability to upload samples is totally worth the upgrade.

On the CR-78 you can play two preset patterns at the same time to mix the rhythms together. No way to do this with the TR-8S, I suppose? Anyway, it's not like I would get rid of my CR-78...!
- It would have been useful if you actually told us how to install the new patterns or kits, so do i have to do a factory reset after the update and lose all my original patterns or what ??? Edit: As it isn't mentioned anywhere - if you want to use the new CR-78 patterns and kits you have to update firmware AND do a factory reset, which means losing all your custom patterns and samples, so backup first, update firmware, factory reset, export new patterns and kits to SD card, restore from backup, then import new patterns and kits to available spaces. Also make sure the new patterns match up with their corresponding kits, lastly most important shift/Exit/Overwrite. Could Roland have made it a little easier? maybe included new patterns/kits with the new updated TR Editor, probably not.

I updated, I have the CR78 sounds, but no CR78 patterns, do I have to do a factory reset or are they available somewhere else ?

- It would have been useful if you actually told us how to install the new patterns or kits, so do i have to do a factory reset after the update and lose all my original patterns or what ???
Edit: As it isn't mentioned anywhere - if you want to use the new CR-78 patterns and kits you have to update firmware AND do a factory reset, which means losing all your custom patterns and samples, so backup first, update firmware, factory reset, export new patterns and kits to SD card, restore from backup, then import new patterns and kits to available spaces.
Also make sure the new patterns match up with their corresponding kits, lastly most important shift/Exit/Overwrite.
Could Roland have made it a little easier?
maybe included new patterns/kits with the new updated TR Editor, probably not.
I thinking they add a button PLAY/STOP and usb sample transfer with the new version of TR Editor but no :(
great. now that i updated my editor will not work in full size mode or compact and i see none of the cr-78 stuff :(
Please let us copy/paste patterns and kits with the editor and i am happy.
