It is such a fun fellowship time and allows us to bless those in need. We call ourselves "the apple dumpling gang". We do buy our pastry squares tha come in squares and frozen.
Oh my goodness! I haven't made these in about 6-7 years now! I remember my momma n grandmaws making these for family reunions, revivals and just for Sunday dessert! So many of us kids, I just don't know how they had the time! I'm going to make my kids n grandkids some and surprise them! They've had them but its been a while! Thank you Becky for such a wonderful video and memory! God Bless and keep you in his Grace! Love you my sister in Christ! From Georgia..🙏🙏❤😀
I can’t believe anyone else would know this recipes. My Mom made these all the time I never had a recipe for them. I am 79. So glad to get this recipe. Thank you so much I am going to make these this week. Mom made these 12 at a time. She also put raisins and walnuts in the center with the sugar. Again I can’t thank you enough for this beautiful recipe from my past. Lee
Yumm the butter crust, and Georgia peach pie. I madenone for my husband years ago when we first got married, and he was really surprised I could bake. Well duh, I came from the generation where we didn't have all this packed foods. Haha. I havent made it since. But we never forgot that pie.
Here down under we have corers that is a cylinder that you press through the apple and then pull out which then has the core in it. The corer is great to make apple rings for pies or drying. I always peel with a potato peeler as you loose less of the apple. Blessings and prayers for you all.
I love your little history lessons! And I also love so very much God first Channel. Many of the things that you make or just the way my mother and grandmother made them when I was a child. Some of them I remember how to make and summer hadn’t so it’s been very helpful to me to grasp these recipes again and to have what I remember so fondly.
Walmart has apple corer's for 3.00 It'll make coring super quick. You just stick the corer in the center and twist the apple in a circle. It comes right out in the corer.
I love your videos!!! Thank you!!! I lost my mom at a younger age and thought recipes like meatloaf, sausage gravy and biscuits, chicken fried steak...are so similar to my moms, I thought those recipes were gone forever!!!
Thank you Becky for this and all your ideas and recipes! Love them all! The Lord is a true blessing for those who look for him and sometimes he finds you! You are right on about forgiveness, as it so much sometimes takes for the hate or bad feelings to build,it will not be fixed in a day. It's a daily work through and only with the Lord's help and his assurance and our on hard work will we being to feel it less and less. Trust in the Lord and your self. Your going fall short but God is always there to help you up. God bless you all. Pray, pray, pray!
Apple Dumplings always reminder me of the Scioto County Ohio Fair booth that the United Methodist Church ran every year (my Dad was Pastor). One add to the syrup were Red Hot candies melted in - YUM! Thanks for sharing and God Bless...
It's 2021, I have done this with pears to delicious. My grandma taught me how to do this with Apples, pear and I have made peach dumplings. Make sure the peaches is not too soft. Of course I had half my peaches. Delicious. Bless you. Vj.
I have this same recipe in my family cookbook from a dear old lady we knew when we were growing up. We call them "Wilma's apple dumplings." They are divine. Thanks for reminding me!
I love that I stumbled across your channel. I definitely haft to start making this.my mom made this mom passed from cancer over 6 yrs ago this June 16th. This brought back alot of memories I thought I forgot about.thank you.
This looks like Iike the apple dumplings that my grandmother made so many years ago! I want to make them for my grandchildren! Thank you for sharing!!🍎
You’re so funny calling yourself a hillbilly. I’d serve your recipes at any fancy dinner I have. I feel special whenever I see you post a generations-old recipe. And your techniques and advice are simple and easy-to-follow. I just love you!
Last Christmas I made this recipe for my family. They were incredibly delicious! Today, I making a batch for Thanksgiving (for just my mom, my daughter and myself), Then, again for Christmas this year. I can hardly wait. Thanks for this perfect recipe for apple dumplings.
This is what I remember eating as a kid in Thurmont Md color festival. We usually had ours serverd with a Lil milk poured over top. It was delicious! Thank you can't wait to make these again.
I really enjoy watching your channel. Mom was born in Wheelwright KY in ‘39. Most of your recipes are things I remember mom and gramma making including this. Thank you❤️🙏❤️
I believe this is how my great grandma used to make hers. I absolutely loved them and miss them. We used to put ours in a bowl and pour milk over it, while still warm. So delicious. Dumplings are believed to have started in China, over 2,000 years ago. So many things that we all have that are similar.
I have an apple corer. You center it on top of the apple and push down. The core pops right out. Apple is intact. Easy peasy. I've had it for years. I imagine they still make them.I also have a similar kitchen tool that sections an apple with one firm push too. My hubby was into kitchen gadgets...he bought me a lot of different ones.
I would take your cooking anyday I was raised in the country I have had apple dumplings many times at family reunions and my grandmother taught me how to make this recipe and the crust is a little work but so worth it besides back in old days our great grandmothers didn't have pastry chefs they were down home southern country cooking chefs lol . Have a blessed day
I remember making these. Wonderful treats! I got to where I would make the peeled, cored and stuffed apples a day or so ahead of time, put some lemon juice on them (to try to keep from browning) then cover with plastic wrap. Love your shows and I am always happy and grateful to watch! ❤️
Your apple dumplings look delicious. I've never made the syrup and poured over the top. Will try it! Sometimes I put a few chopped up walnuts down the center. Thank you so much. And you're perfectly right:Put God first! 🍎
*Oh my!! Yes!! Top that off with a scoop of real vanilla ice cream!! Thank you for this video, Becky. May God continue to bless you & your family.* ✝️✝️✝️✝️✝️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️✝️✝️✝️✝️✝️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
Becky! You should look at the OXO brand apple corer: works brilliantly as it cores the apple in no time😊 Thanks for the recipe, dear. Your granny's recipes are wonderful.
Finally made this today! It was fabulous! I used 6 huge Gala apples, I made my own crust, which I ended up making an extra batch...enough for 3 pie crusts. I will definitely be making this again! My family loves them too!
I put the cores and skins into a pan of water and add a spot of cinnamon, sometimes a splash of imitation vanilla and heat on the back burner. It makes the house smell incredible! This is the ONLY way I EVER use imitation vanilla! But it's cheap to use for air freshener!
These look so good! Many years ago, they sold these at the Brookfield Apple Orchard in central MA, where I'd had my 1st & only ones. Maybe they still sell them there. What a treat. They used to have picnic tables near the orchard where we could eat a picnic lunch we'd brought, or buy some food at a small shack there, near a set of swings & sand boxes. Usually we'd go into the big barn where they had a 2nd hand store off to one side, with used clothing, & another section crammed with old glasses, serving dishes, pans, books, old framed prints & paintings, a few vintage dolls & toys, vintage cutlery, used cooking utensils & kitchen tools, the occasional taxidermied weasel, or bird, & used musical instruments. The main attraction inside was that they sold a few different types of apples by the bag or box, pies & dumplings. You could also pick your own I think, at certain times. I usually prefer the Cortland for eating, Granny Smith for baking, & a blend for Apple Sauce. It was so nice to sit in their few tables in a mix of vintage metal Bistro tables & chairs, for a cup of coffee, tea, hot chocolate or milk after a long drive in the countryside, & enjoy their desserts being baked in the back in big ovens, where you could see their boxed apples loaded onto conveyor belts used to move them into the prep & oven area, & to the front, to one side near the cashiers at counters, as needed, behind the rows of boxed & bagged apples, ready to go. It smelled so good in there! It was a quinticential fall day to hop into the car, bring the swim suits, big towels & warm layers if neededfor the ride home. Thanks for bringing back some cherished memories!
I'm so glad you shared this with us, my hubby was just asking me the other day about making some apple dumplings for dessert, and now I've got a recipe - thank you so much!!
OMGOSH while watching your apple fritter yesterday I was thinking about apple dumplings and... here you are making them! I can’t wait to make some. ♥️♥️♥️
That’s exactly how I made my Apple dumplings when I first made them 60 years ago. Delicious! The only problem Ive had was the bottom crust was very soggy because of the syrup. Thanks for bringing back memories.

My mother would make a plainer version of apple dumplings, no syrup. We'd eat them hot with milk and sugar for supper during the summer. As long as the orchard had apples, there were apple dumplings on the table. I miss those days. Love your channel! New sub!
Hi Hillbilly Girlfriends! Can also use a potato peeler to core out center. I love this Hillbilly Girl. She learned from her Mama well! Greetings from Texas!
Hey Becky! I took the time to watch the video you posted of your recent motorcycle trip, as did several other viewers. Thank you so much for sharing this dream come true for you. If you and Bret ever want a real adventure, ship your motorcycle over to the island of Maui and hold on to your helmet because there are some amazing, but frankly scary places well suited for a motorcycle to travel. And the scenery is just as breathtaking and gives a person a different perspective of God's grand and beautiful creation!

I can almost smell the kitchen while you're baking. I'm going to go pick some honey crisp apples today. 🍎. 🙂 Have a blessed weekend.
Yum!!!! These look scrumptious, Becky!!! Yes, I believe that vanilla ice cream is a requirement, for sure! 😊 Thank you again, for such wonderful recipes! God Bless.💜🤗
Yummy in my tummy ... adding this to a meal for dessert
This is an unusual way to cook apple dumplings. Thanks for showing this to us.
