Actually Harrison likes that character, which is one reason he wants to do one last movie as Indy* (to get the bad taste of the last one out his and our mouths). It's his Han Solo character that he really dislikes (though us fans love it more than anything!)
      * At an on-stage event right after Indy 4 came out he said he really wants to do another one, but that "this time we won't be going to Mars" which was a jab at the sci-fi angle that the last one had.

John Williams deserves whatever accolades he gets. Love his music in my favorite movies from SW to Indy to Superman. Having said that, keep in mind a good portion of his most famous themes were actually variations of many existing pieces from other composers. Holst the Planets is the best example. He borrowed so much for Star Wars.

    • @gnoserl6577

      nah i dont.
its a great soundtrack, but you sound like saying, there's nothing like it anymore.
"time" from inception, "arrival to earth" from transformers "avengers suite" all great pieces of music ..... to name only a few recent ones.
i dont think, the quality of soundtracks gets worse .. maybe the movies themselfes do, but soundtracks stay great :-)

I swear to God when I saw Indiana Jones and the last crusade right at the end when they're all getting ready to ride off and you can feel John Williams revving up and getting ready for the last great send off and when the orchestra finally hits into the "Raiders" theme full blast. I got chills.

Whenever I do something adventurous, I hear the Indiana Jones Music. Whenever I do something good or bad, I hear The Star Wars Music.

John Williams elevated everything he ever worked on like no other composer. I don’t think Home Alone would feel as magical without his music, and I don’t think I’d have the fondness I do for Hook without that soundtrack… not to mention the obvious stuff like Star Wars, Superman, Indiana Jones…

No one better at this job than John Williams. Others I love too.... But Williams has sat at the top for decades.
As a side note, I consider Raiders to be a genuinely perfect film. Score too. Every detail of that film is well made and works perfectly. It's a case study in how good a film can be when EVERYONE straight up nails their job... Direction, script, cinematography, score, acting, stunts, effects, editing, costume design, set design... I don't care what detail you drill down to on this film, you find someone kicking ass at their job.

The Raiders of the Lost Ark soundtrack is genuinely epic, all it of beautiful and rousing. For me, perhaps the most haunting is The Map Room : Dawn, when Indy and Sallah and are trying to find the exact location of the Well of the Souls without drawing the attention of the Nazis.
PS At the end of Washington Ending & Raiders March, the theme starts again in a limited way. Most people would have left the cinema by that time, but those who stayed behind get this little post-credits bonus. It's wonderfullly warm and leaves a smile one your face.

My then-girlfriend and I were in a restaurant at the same time as Harrison Ford during the filming of Patriot Games, and as we were leaving, my girlfriend thought it would be funny if she whistled the theme music. I can confirm, based entirely on the look of utter rage that flashed across Ford's face at that moment, that the first thing he says here is not a joke.
