    I saw this movie as a 9 year old kid with my father at the cineplex in 89. It was the bestest memory I had. We planned to watch it again after Covid, but sadly, he passed away last month, while I was in the hospital. I miss him so much.

    It's such a small scene, and I didn't get it right away. When Indy is struggling to grab the Grail (Basically because he knew how much it meant for his Dad). Henry doesn't want to lose his son and says "Indiana, let it go..." For the first time he calls him Indiana. Basically Henry chose Indy over the Grail. Small bit, but it really hits home. I was so happy to watch this movie in the Theatre with my Dad.

    • @michaellorah9051
      @michaellorah9051 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      And if you'll notice when Henry says "let's go Junior" during the final scene, indy says "yes sir!" Then takes off. You can see they've finally made it past their differences.

    • @sylviecharlois1165
      @sylviecharlois1165 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I can so relate to that. That movie will always be special for me because it was the last one I saw with my mother, before she died of cancer. She loved the movie, especially the line when Indy asks his father "what did you find ?" and he answers "Illumination".
      Apart from that, it is a wonderful movie, and the dynamic between the 2 Jones is marvelous.

    • @jeffw8218
      @jeffw8218 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think it would've been better if Sean Connery called him "Henry" at that time. Then, the scene later when it's revealed that his name is actually Dr. Henry Jones, Jr. would've been even more impactful.

    • @Gakusangi
      @Gakusangi 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It also helps that earlier we saw just how it impacted Henry when he thought his son died when the tank went over. I think it really shocked some perspective back into him too, so it was easy for him to have that moment with Indie at the end, he didn't want to lose his son again.

    • @lunaranz8765
      @lunaranz8765 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@jeffw8218 but that would have been in a similar vein to him calling Indy “Junior”. He still sees Indy as a naive boy during the main sequences of the movie, constantly unimpressed with Indy’s recklessness.
      Indy choosing the right grail and not trying to take it across the seal was really the first non-reckless decision he made in the film. This proved to Henry that his son was not a boy anymore, but a respectable and grown man. Which, in tandem with Indy’s desperate effort to get the grail for his father, caused Henry to call his son Indiana. The name he chose for himself. A name that everyone has used for him except one person. The person who he sought the approval of the most. His father.
      Henry finally calling him Indiana gave Indy that approval. There were so many emotions and plot points packed behind that one phrase “Indiana... Let it go” that just wouldn’t have had the same impact if he would have said Henry. He was accepting that Indy was his own person as a grown man.
      Another very impactful thing is that right as Henry calls him Indiana, the rumbling of the cavern stops. It’s quiet except for Henry’s words. It gave me chills when I noticed it.
      Sorry for the long comment. Have a potato 🥔

      Agreed! The first one, was the show stopper, the second was for the die hard fans, the third was the crowd pleaser and the victory lap for this legendary trilogy! There was no need for a fourth and fifth, the third brought Indy full circle and completed his character arc!!!! It was the perfect closer for the series. And Indy and his father- Ford and Connery- riding off- togethe- into the sunset, was the cherry on top!
      The rest was bunk! I only watch the trilogy- every Olympian year- with my family- and they never fail to delight and fulfill us!
      And no i haven't seen the fifth and refuse to tarnish my feeling about the original- as watching the Disney sequels of Star Wars taught me to run away when Disney comes around, these days!

      While George Lucas and Steven Spielberg were in vacations during the summer of 1977 after the release of Star Wars and Close Encounters of Third Kind, Steven said to George he was interested in directing a James Bond film. George said "I have something better", and explained him the idea of an archeologist searching historical objects with great powers. And that's how Indiana Jones was born. Although, George inicially gave it the name of "Indiana Smith", and Steven suggest to change it.

I like some of the ideas, and the chase at the university was good, but the tone was a little too jokey. And the excessive CGI sometimes made it feel small, made for TV.. like it was filmed on a set instead of on location. Cate Blanchett is always brilliant, but this was far from her best role. Ray Winstone grates. I think it's mainly his accent. He was totally wrong for Zemeckis' Beowulf. (I digress). There are a lot of credulity straining moments. With the balding head, lack of dying his beard, not shaving his head completely, it made him look 15 - 20 years older than what current day celebrities look like at the same age. Current face fills and surgeries help too, but I still feel the style things just made him look so much older than he was. He looks 70 - 75. Same age as current day Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Today the closest actor I can find that resembles the Harrison Ford of his time right now currently has to be Daniel Craig. Craig takes every roles very seriously, pushes the boundary and even goes the extra mile……..who would’ve guess he would make an amazing bond? Daniel Craig in my eyes is the Harrison Ford of his time just like Harrison was the Sean Connery of his. Can you imagine putting all 3 in the same movie in their primes?
