    I don't know why, but you, and a lot of African american women, look younger with natural curly hair.
    Your curl pattern is beautiful.
    Please don't take offense just something I noticed.

    Hi I tried this technique today and my hair turned out shiny and soft, in the past it had always been dry when I would do a protein treatment even with conditioning afterwards so my hair probably doesn't like much protein, thanks so much for providing such great information!!

    you are a great instructor, I am white latin with low porosity protein sensitive hair, I use to have curly hair, now my curls are gone and all I have left with is this hair that lacks definition, not curly, not wavy not straight, just weird undefined shape, Ill try your method.
    Thank You!

    This video was very informative. A few months ago, I did a protein treatment, I think I was very heavy handed when I applied it to my hair. My hair felt like wire once I rinsed it out. After watching this video, I know better now. Thanks so much.

    Hi Abena, I have been following you for some time, not that long. I went natural about 1 yr. ago, but now I see that my ends well a little more than my ends are dry, should I cut them off (well I did that once already), or is there something you can suggest?
    Thx

    • @EmbraceNaturalBeauty
      @EmbraceNaturalBeauty  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Trimming the ends is something I recommend to do regularly. The amount to be cut depends on the condition of your hair. How often depends on your growth rate and on the condition of your hair and the way you style your hair.

    The crown of my hair is very low porosity and drier and coarser than the rest of my hair. Do you recommend using different products for that part of my hair??? I'm so frustrated. I'm considering getting a keratin treatment on that part of my hair. I'm hoping to find some other alternatives before I take such a drastic step.

    • @EmbraceNaturalBeauty
      @EmbraceNaturalBeauty  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I recommend using different products and different techniques to care for that challenging area of your hair. I have to handle my low porosity hair differently as well. In fact, I mentioned this in the video when I stated that I used the Shea Moisture Low Porosity Protein Free Conditioner to detangle my low porosity hair to avoid putting proteins on it.

  • @michelledoland9516
    @michelledoland9516 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi. I have a question. I have high porosity hair from genetics and not from bad hair practices as I don't use heat or color my hair, etc. I use protein treatments every week and use heavy moisturizes, butters and oils in an attempt to seal my hair and retain moisture. However, it seems like nothing is working and as soon as my hair dries after washing and the moisturizing process it feels dry. I also deep condition with every wash, I don't use sulfates and wash with cold water. Do you have any advice as to what I could to retain moisture ? I am at my wits end

    • @EmbraceNaturalBeauty
      @EmbraceNaturalBeauty  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Michelle, yes I know that high porosity hair is extremely difficult to moisturize. I have a patch on both sides of my head in the front. Is the majority or all of your hair high porosity? how do you style your hair, basically your go to hair style? Have you tried the Shea Moisture High Porosity line?

    • @michelledoland9516
      @michelledoland9516 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      The majority of my hair is high porosity. Some parts seem normal but for the most part it is high. Right now I keep my hair braided under wigs but I do moisturize every day sometimes twice a day. It feels soft for a while but as soon as my hair dries it feels as if I put nothing on. And no I haven't tried the Shea moisture line

      Thank you for sharing. As I mentioned in response to another one of your comments, It could be shea butter since that is the dominant ingredient in the products you have been using. I had a client who is adverse to shea butter in high concentration. And I shared that video here on my channel for this very reason.

    How do you know if you are protein sensitive? I believe I have low porosity hair, but the more I practice getting to a natural hair routine the more defined my curls are becoming and my hair just looks healthier. I do notice hair seems to like protein whether I make a diy with eggs or bananas or a store bought product. And I am learning to use less heat.

      Same here I have low porosity hair. Every 6 weeks I do a protein treatment and my hair has been responding very well to it.

    • @EmbraceNaturalBeauty
      @EmbraceNaturalBeauty  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's good to hear your hair is responding well to the products you are using. You may want to keep a journal and photograph even video of your progress. If you ever change products or your hair care regimen it would be good to have a record of what worked well for you. In answer to your question, I will do a video on how to determine protein sensitivity. I was working on it before this video so it is in progress.

    I have a question... I have my hair texlaxed, the relaxer wasn't left on for very long and I got it done by a professional. Ive been a bit insecure about my hair because I'm seeing everyone with their own texture meanwhile I have a loosened one because of the texlaxer. I go back and forth between this idea mainly because the front of my hair is very fine compared to the rest of my strong thick hair everywhere else. Does it make sense to just texlax the back of my hair from ear to ear to nape and just leave the front alone? Will that cause breakage issues? The last time I texlaxed was in February and i havent dealt with a lot of breakage just minimum to normal. I have low porosity hair thats about an inch or so past BSL ( i havent flat ironed yet so I'm not too sure on accuracy but lol ).

    • @EmbraceNaturalBeauty
      @EmbraceNaturalBeauty  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, relaxing or texturizing is not something I recommend. However, your question has more to do with breakage not texture management. In terms of experiencing more damage, your hair is in danger if it is overprocessed, or if overlapping occurs. Additionally, your hair will be weaker at the line of demarcation. If you continue to see a professional for this application they should be able to see clearly where the line of demarcation is and not overlap the relaxer. According to your statement you have not experienced any breakage resulting from the last relaxer application, why are you concerned now? Also, you have managed to deal with approximately five months of new growth, why do you feel the need to reapply the texturizer?

    • @bunnixdoll7563
      @bunnixdoll7563 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Im concerned about breakage because I haven't texlaxed since February and I'm kinda wanting to stop texlaxing all together, but because of the line of demarcation I'm afraid of doing so.~ I was having issues before with trying to cut back on time with detangling my hair so I went for texlaxing as it would make it easier to detangle and I wouldnt spend two hours in the bathroom trying to work with my hair without ripping through it, I have never had any issues with breakage while texlaxing nor has my hair been over processed because of it. The front of my hair has just always been fine and a looser texture and I feel like the texlaxer didn't help with that.

    • @EmbraceNaturalBeauty
      @EmbraceNaturalBeauty  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      From the sounds of it, you are not experiencing breakage, you're managing to care for your hair well. You and your stylist seem to be doing a good job so far. If she/he is comfortable texlaxing only the thicker portion of hair, the untouched portion will be just fine. It is always my hope that when you have a better understanding of how to manage your natural hair you will not feel the need to use chemicals to change it. But it is your hair and your decision. Whatever you decide to do I wish you the absolute best!

    Has anyone ever complained about oil sitting on their hair before? I applied oil to my hair after I washed it with KinkyCurly shampoo, and used a leave in. Also, I have kinky hair that doesn't feel dry. It has good elasticity but I can't achieve a good twist out definition that lasts. I'm always pulling my hair back. Any advice. I'm a professional and I'm tired of looking like an old school marme.

    • @EmbraceNaturalBeauty
      @EmbraceNaturalBeauty  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't use oils on my hair directly, it is usually mixed into the formulation of the products I use. Other individuals do experience oils sitting on their hair. I always recommend using oil on top of your moisturizer (leave in) as a sealant if you are going to apply oil to your hair. Which oil do you use?

    • @coolingwinds
      @coolingwinds 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Embrace Natural Beauty There are times when I use Shea butter (in fact my hair loves it) but in this case I was using almond oil on top of my moisturizer to seal in moisture. I just want to say that because of you I have searched for a natural hair stylist and I made a consultation appt with her. This salon also has 2 trichologists Dr. Kerri Williams and another woman who she trained. So thank you for inspiring me to be mindful and proactive about my hair. I'm so frustrated, but I refuse to give up the hope of having healthy, stylish hair that I can manage.

    Hi there. What are the benefits of going through your hair with the fine tooth comb?

    • @EmbraceNaturalBeauty
      @EmbraceNaturalBeauty  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It helps to remove tangles that you miss when solely finger and wide tooth detangling. It also helps reduce the amount of loose hairs that were shed from causing more tangles, knots and eventually breakage. Loose shed hairs become more of an issue when the hair is long.

      Hey Celeste, I don't use clay to detox my hair. But I have used the Wonder Curl Detoxifying clay cleanser. I have mentioned this product and demonstrated me using it in a couple of videos. The one on shampoos, my winter routine and the video on moisturizing low porosity hair extended version. That is at least 3 separate videos. Please note, the shampoo video is in need of an update. I hope this helps.

    I noticed you did a pre poo with your protein treatment. Is that something you always do with protein treatments? If so, if you were to begin protein treatment on an old wash and go, would you repeat the same steps?

    • @EmbraceNaturalBeauty
      @EmbraceNaturalBeauty  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi KesandraC, I have done protein treatments prior to heatstyling to prepare the hair. That would be applied to clean, freshly washed hair. When I revert back to my natural I always start with a protein treatment applied directly to my straightened hair.
