  • Hey guys, in this video, I share how I moisturize my low porosity hair. For my wash n go, I use a gel with maximum hold for my coarse textured hair, but if you have fine textured hair, you may be better off using a gel with a light hold.
    Products used in this video:
    Protective Style:
    Camille Rose Curlaide Moisture Butter

    This is why I believe knowing your porosity is way more important than knowing your hair texture. Knowing your hair porosity tells you the products your hair absorbs, protein levels you need. Even the order you need them in. I don't subscribe to the hat typing system because I've never benefited from it. Your hair looks nothing like mine and yet we both do the same things to maintain moisture because we both have low porosity hair. I'm glad I found your channel. Brand new subbie here.

Like everything you describe is me 😆😆 I'm so grateful to have found you. I know now that my hair only needs 2 products as well. I also noticed that the coconut oil doesn't work for me. Didn't realize it is too heavy for my hair

    I have low porosity hair too. The products that moisturize my hair the best when dry are As I Am: So Much Moisture and Softsheen Carson Care Free Curl Gold(Instant Activator). As I Am makes my hair feel so soft. I cannot stop touching it. The bottle is not that big. I feel they did that so we keep buying it. The Gold is bigger and cheaper so I use it more. You think it is sitting but it really does help with moisture.

    llyda thanku SO much for this video my darling. Been struggling with my extremely low porosity hair for years now. She hates butters and shampoos. and just like your hair can only handle 2 things at a time. And of late clarifying with clay every week and applying a very watery leave-in cream to DRY hair for me then sealing with an oil has done wonders. My hair has never been so soft! The cream just glides in. 😍 TFS. adding to my Favorites, and a new subsciber. Really appreciated the visuals of both methods.

      BeaunaturelleFeb11 I’m so glad this video was helpful! Very interesting that you get good results applying product to dry hair, I always apply it to damp damp hair, I should try it!!! 😀

      it works for me hun. However it only works with very light, moisture rich Souffle like creams. So basically, if whatever you're planning to use doesn't absorb into the back of ur hand, then its highly unlikely it will be absorbed by your hair. Hope that helps.

    We use water, conditioner, oil, then gel but there is white product buildup that takes 1-2 hours outside to dissolve in our hair. You said it is from the gel and also the low porosity. I like the part about the warm water to dissolve the product buildup. Good advice and also we have a similar issue about our hair still being (Moisturized after 1-2 days) but I kind of like that because of the moisturizing properties. Your very smart about low porosity hair. Thanks

    I just realized I have low porosity hair. In another video you mentioned that your hair would still have a curl pattern when relaxed, and that was an eye opener for me. I honestly gave up relaxers for that reason bc it was like what’s the point?
    I noticed too that I can’t use a ton of products (ton meaning more than 2 or 3) or it will weigh my hair down. New sub!!!❤️

    I have 4c hair but found your tips very helpful as I also have low porosity hair . Only difference, my hair loves thick butters to help lock in the moisture from a lighter light leave in. My styles only work if I use a thick butter for my C step. Love the camille rose almond jai twisting butter for my cream.

    • @IydaMichael
      @IydaMichael  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ivy Price I’ve been reading other comments from people with low porosity hair that like to use heavy butters as well and I’m surprised! I’ve tried the butter you mentioned and although it is every moisturizing, it flakes on my hair and creates white flakes bc it’s just sitting in top of my hair! Maybe there’s different levels to low porosity hair ?

    • @originality918
      @originality918 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it may be due to hair type. I have 4c hair, so bc/ my hair is pretty dense and coarse it can take heavier creams . I'd imagine that curlier hair types that are in the 4a/4b range do better wit lighter stylers. Just a guess !

    Hi Iyda- So when you wash with a clarifying shampoo, you don't follow with a deep condition or conditioner?

    • @IydaMichael
      @IydaMichael  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hello, yes I always follow up with a conditioner after washing my hair! If I use a shampoo, I always follow up with a rinse out conditioner, and then a deep conditioner, and then a leave in conditioner and then a sealant. If I use a cleansing conditioner (cowash) then I skip the rinse out conditioner and go straight to the deep conditioner and then leave in conditioner and sealant.

    I am experimenting my hair with products (now that I am in my awkward stage). I noticed when I put too much oil or cream my hair be weighed down-- (although I am porous and have cottony 3C/4A hair) no volume. Great tutorial.

    • @IydaMichael
      @IydaMichael  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Shameka Cheek lmao @ cottony! I'm glad you liked the video :) your hair may be finer in texture if it's getting weighted down because my hair is coarse and nothing can weigh it down 😩😂

    • @ShamekaCheek78
      @ShamekaCheek78 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      LMFAO Oh, Okay....I am still learning. I meant coarse. Honestly, I didn't know my hair pattern(s), etc until my hair start growing out. All I knew at the beginning of my BC is that I had/have porous hair. I think it is 3c/4a, Kinky curly, coarse & medium density. BTW, my wash N gos don't look good, but still trying to learn how to do it. Maybe because I am still in my awkward stage. I have some curls and or waves. Some of my hair strings are hard to define (left and right sides of my head--I may have three patterns?). I wish I can show you what I mean...

    • @IydaMichael
      @IydaMichael  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I actually know exactly what you mean! I went through that when I first big chopped, but things got easier once my hair started to grow longer. With time and trial and error you will figure it out girl! I think I have about 2-3 curl patterns as well! :)

    Ok I watched a couple of your videos which I just subscribed to yr channel. I’m a little confuse about the type of hair I have. The video that speaks about the top 10 u have low porosity hair makes me think that I don’t. My hair looks like yours; my hair is thin, does not retain any moisture whatsoever, if I flat iron my hair; in 15 mins depending of the climate it dries up. I use coconut oil which works well when I first apply it but after a while it dries up again. Can you suggest what I need to do or what I’m doing wrong. Just need some direction. Years ago I tried Giovanni products but it just dries my hair. Love yr hair btw

      From what you have told me it sounds like you may have high porosity hair. Have you heard of the LOC method of moisturizing your hair? Apply a liquid based leave in, then an oil, and then a cream/butter to seal your hair. How do you moisturize your hair?

    I live in an area with really hard water, would you recommend distilled water or no?

    • @IydaMichael
      @IydaMichael  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      If you can wash your hair with distilled water every time that would prevent the mineral and chlorine buildup, but can you really do that? I am looking into a shower filter that may help but for the most part I have to clarify once in a while to get rid of the hard water buildup, clay masks really help or a chelating shampoo.

    • @gmp621
      @gmp621 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I buy a lot of distilled water for my floor steamer and other appliances I use because they recommend it. What I did do once is use it as the final rinse and I did notice a difference on how my hair felt so maybe I will do that again. A filter would be nice as my skin would benefit too.

    Informative video. I'm still not sure wich porosity I have. Though my hair is quite similiar to yours. 3c/4a blend but with fine strands.
    I tried a product recently for high porosity hair. A leave in cream. But it made my hair stiff and more dry. And a lot less volume. And thinner looking. Tried it for a week. Then pulled the conclusion this is not working for me..

      Thank you! Is your hair protein sensitive? Maybe the product you used for high porosity hair had protein in it that made your hair feel stiff. If you have fine hair, maybe that product was too heavy for your hair and resulted in less volume and thinner looking. You gave me a great idea to create a video on how to tell what porosity you have, but for now you can check out my video on low porosity 101 which discusses it briefly. Please let me know if that helped you! :)

    Hi Idya! I’m protein sensitive, low porosity also and I purchased the Camille Rose Curlaid Butter you used and I realized it contains coconut oil and that acts as a protein . Does coconut oil work for you ?

    • @IydaMichael
      @IydaMichael  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am able to get away with using a little amount of coconut oil when mixed in with other oils or in a conditioner but cant use it too often! The reason why I love this product is because I don't have to remoisturize my hair daily because its so moisturizing for me although I am very protein sensitive. I really hope it works out for you please let me know how it goes!

    This is totally unrelated but do you lift weights or something because your arms look strong as hell. Or is it because you do your hair. Because doing hair is a workout itself 😅😅

    I absolutely loveeee your videos.... I’m so elated to have found someone with almost my exact texture ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️ My question for you is how do you avoid single strand knots on our hair type

    • @IydaMichael
      @IydaMichael  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      YAY thank you! Do you have fine textured hair? I noticed that people with tighter curl patterns with fine textured hair experience single stranded knots. I do not experience that and I think it is because I have coarse textured hair. I have read that in order to prevent them, you have to limit wash n gos, or make sure to use products that are really clumping your curls together so that they dont tangle too much. Also, wearing your hair in stretched styles helps prevents single stranded knots. Also, using the search and destroy method when trimming your hair will really help to reduce the amount of single strand knots. Make sure to detangle your hair very well before applying shampoo and not to rub your hair while washing your hair and do not use a regular towel to dry your hair, only a cotton t shirt or microfiber towel. Also, you want to protect your hair at night with a satin or silk scarf and make sure your hair is properly moisturized by deep conditioning your hair often and regularly and also moisturize your hair starting off with either the LOC or LCO method, but you first have to learn your hair type before really figuring out what products to use and how to moisturize your hair.

      Iyda Michael My hair is a mixture of both... The crown area is more coarse than the back and the front. The back section is extremely smooth and high porosity, it absorbs moisture very well and has a very loose wave type pattern... the crown area is a coarse wave type pattern and the front is and in between of the crown and back part of my hair😩😩😩😩 I don’t wear wash and go’s as much because I don’t like the way it looks or feels any more it just gets way too dry way too quick. I normally do twist outs.

    oils are not good for low porosity hair, also for low porosity hair to absorb any treatment, you have to use heat, like a hair steamer or hot towel, when applying a treatment, so heat will open your hair pores and absorb the treatment, then rinse it off with cold water to close pores back therefore retaining the moist lock in the hair...unless you are applying a leave in treatment after conditioning, then you rinse your hair with warm water and then apply your leave in treatment BUT BUT make sure you left your leave in treatment in the refrigerator the nigh before so when you take it out to use it on your hair after rinsing the conditioning with warm water, your leave in treatment WILL BE COLD when you apply it on your hair, therefore it will close the pores and sealing the moist inside the hair. A good leave in spray is: purified water and aloe vera juice or gel, as aloe vera es 95% water. Oils are not good

      Thank you for sharing your tips! In most cases, oils do not work that well for low porosity hair, but not in every case. There are some oils that work well with low porosity hair and it also depends on how you use the oils, but everyones hair is different. Check out my video on oils and low porosity hair!
