Originally made as a single half hour video, RUBICON : A Legendary Jeep Trail & Off-Road Adventure was broken down into a 3 part series, each approximately 10 minutes long and done so that it could be broadcasted on TH-cam. In episode 2, we pick-up the pieces of Inyo-JK's Jeep, brush off the dust and continue our trek to Rubicon Springs. Along the way, we pass by the Soup Bowl, take in the impressive views across Spider Lake, descend the off camber granite slabs, tackle the rock obstacles at Buck Island Lake, negotiate our way down the very challenging Big Sluice, add a couple of stock Canadian Jeeps to our group, cross the historic Rubicon Bridge and then, just as we we pull into camp, we hear a call coming in over the CB... it's Trail Bud.
Crossing through the El Dorado National Forest up in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, the Rubicon Trail is truly one of the most beautiful ones I've been on, bar none. Of course, its unrelenting 22 miles of boulders that need to be crawled, steep ledges that need to be climbed, narrow trees that need to be squeezed between, deep muddy water crossings that need to be forded and tippy off camber terrain that needs to be carefully negotiated is ultimately what makes the Rubicon Trail so legendary and famous around the world.
More than just a Jeep, it's a way of life!
Thank you for helping out others on the trail. That shows me and others that you are by far dedicated to this "wayalife".
And this is why I own a Jeep and will forever own a Jeep. Owning those trails (or lack there of) like a boss
The music is great. And the videography is refreshing to watch. Great forethought and skill. I often play this vid over and over at my shop. Looking forward to more.
We're so glad that you enjoy our video. Thank you.
I know that I have close to $40,ooo in my jeep as a toy and I am not done yet with mods for off roading. I love the new 3.6 V-6 but I am in the process of having it upgraded with a super charger for more low end power I do not care for the oil burners. I test drove a experimental version of this engine with the super charger amount other mods and it's unreal how even the power band is not only low crawling but high speed performance. It offsets the taller tires for highway driving. Cheers
Our Jeeps are built up to withstand the hits they take. Nothing gets damaged.
Hey guys, Leon here from New Zealand (aka 99Wrangler). I envy you guys so much, I am close to tears when I see this, I so wish I had the opportunity to do this. Beautiful video to watch, thanks so much for sharing this wonderful experience, can't wait for the last installment on the series!
This video is the best I have seen for giving the viewer a real sense of what off roading is all about.
Challenges, Friend Ships, Working Together, and danger. What a rush.
Great job!
Back when this video was made, I believe we were running LoD rocker guards/steps. I would highly recommend them.
Never got to go over the rubicon but did get to my scuba diving there
It was awesome especially the depth we did
Y’all got to try it
These people are very lucky to you people to find them
My crew and I found a couple broke down and stranded on a back road twenty miles from nowhere
They had two dogs
We all made room for them as we were trying to get out our selves, and didn’t care if we got tickets trying to get back to hotel,as all roads were closed
You guys ROCK!!! Helping a Wheeler in need says it all. I'm sorry they did not research what the Rubicon DEMANDS of you. You just can't buy a Rubi, grab a burger and solo it! You may have saved a life or two.
D-D-D-Donner...
Keep it up man. Proving more and more everyday its more then a Jeep, It's a way of life.
toyo's are heavier not only because they are physically much bigger than the bfg but also because their sidewalls are SO MUCH THICKER. if you plan on playing on the rocks, i would highly recommend them over the bfg's. i've had nothing but bad luck with bfg sidewalls failing and they just aren't worth the trouble. plus, having more unsprung weight is a good thing as they help keep your jeep planted on the ground.
if you can afford it, a rubicon unlimited is what i would get. right out of the box, you can have a lot of fun.
@BullShark16 thank you, we're so happy that you enjoyed our videos. as far as your jeep goes, have fun with it just as it is. i can guarantee you that just about anything you can learn about wheeling happens now.
if we got the whole world to experience this 'wayalife', there would be no wars, no battles of petty differences and everyone would be happier than most have ever experience their whole lives!!! AWESOME VIDEO.. most excellent camera and editing work!!
@cyerbyandmarge thank you, we really do appreciate the kind words and are glad that you like our videos :)
Good to see the lady who rolled her Jeep was able to continue.
thank you. we are wrapping up part 4 of our rocky mountain run now.
Good job helping the Canadians. Thumbs up ..
Great videos...Jeep should hire you guys for their marketing! I can't get enough of them.
You guys should release those videos in the movie theater.. I will legit go to the movies to watch this :D
LOL - you're too kind. So glad you enjoyed our video 😎
@Sink30 the off road lights are wired up separately. you can do this by hooking them up to your side marker lights as opposed to your high beams.
@Charger3091 thank you - we're really glad to hear you enjoyed watching our videos. nature and jeeps rock!
what chrysler says is true and i have seen it done. it takes A LOT more time to do and some winching or strapping may be required depending on the year but, a stock JK can definitely do it and especially so in a 2-door rubicon.
THIS is why I own my jeep. This holds as such an inspiration for others.
The Rubicon Trail is beyond me or my jeeps capabilities! Maybe someday!
i actually really enjoy the music
not on this run but we have had x and sahara's come with us in the past. lockers are not necessary but they sure do help a lot. sway bars disconnected are a must.
Love your videos. We were just on the trail last weekend. Lots of changes to it that they have done but lots of new obstacles. I love that you picked up those peeps who were starving and over their heads. That is the best about us trailers, we will help others when in need. :)
Great videos! Father-in-law and his buddy are headed up there today for the '12 Jamboree!
To the person that made these videos you did a very very very x50 exleant job!
Yes, her roll bar got bent and that made reinstalling her doors difficult. Aside from that, no, not too much damage at all.
@Stuka87 i'd have to agree. in all my years of jeepin, i have never seen an axle housing break like this before. as you've pointed out, they all happen at the exact same spot.
@wayalife yea that's a pretty carnage break. Good thing you guys were prepared with the welder!
You guys did a great job with the video. really shows how radical that trail is. Can't wait to run it again this summer!
love the articulation on the first rig
i love seeing people who actually use their rigs like this. Great video keep up the good work!
@tomowen1 thank you - we're really glad that you like our videos :)
That's pretty ingenious! Great idea! Thanks again!
@CrossmanM well, it really depends on the kind of on-road conditions you see through out the year. if you live in an area where you see snow and ice, you really should look into getting a selectable locker like an ARB. they are expensive but, totally worth it. if you live out in the west and rarely see snow and ice, you could get a lunch box locker like an aussie locker. these are way cheaper but, can be trick on slick surfaces.
@texasbradley we were running spyderlock wheels back then. we are now running the atx slabs - same thing without the stars
Jeeps are forever!!
Very cool video. Best regards from Brazil! Thanks for posting. One of the best TH-cam channels
Thank you :)
Great videos... I love the jeep community. Always willing to lend a hand even if it sets them back.
I am hoping to have my TJ ready for the rubicon in a year... When I do I'll be going on the jamboree
Thanks for the vids
These video,s are very well done. The camera man was conscious of all the angles that worked and those that didnt.BRAVO to the camera man.My gosh,,,,i really have to say that those 4x4,s are severely getting chewed upon. They look fairly new also.
oh yeah, wouldn't have it any other way. nothing like being able to drive to the trail, run it and then drive it back home :)
i love the music choice in these videos
i cant stop watching this!!!
Man, looks like there was a TON of punishment on this trail. But amazing video. The scenery is just beautiful up there. Keep the videos coming :) cant wait for part 3!
@TheCaneArtist thank you. we're so glad that you like our videos
@wayalife I agree, I ran a dana 30 on my jeep (350, auto, 35" tsl and 37" toyo) for over ten years and the only thing I ever broke was a warn hub. Easy on the throttle...can't stress that enough!
A great part two!
And I swear there is a defect in rubicon housings. I have seen so many people on the JK-Forum break in that exact same spot.
hands down, i would get a 4-door. it doesn't take much to get one to be just as capable as a 2-door and the benefits of having all that extra room simply cannot be compared.
thank you
i missed the first vid but gonna watch the 3rd one now,, god yall are so lucky to spend those days in such beauty that nature has to offer, what i wouldnt give to be able to do that for a week,,count your blessings and continue to share vids those less fortunate can share the expereance,,,man wishing i had a jeep right now, but there just too expensive, the last 5 or 6 years prices even on used jeeps has just sored,, loved vid keepem coming, peace, love, and rocks,,,later
i would never buy a jeep being a toyota guy, But your videos and your rigs make me consider it. keep the videos coming they're very informative. i hope to do this trail in my 4runner.
These vids make me REALLY want a nice wrangler when it comes time to replace my Grand Am haha.
@BullShark16 oh, they're just cheap driving lights that we picked up from walmart. i think they are called platnum burners and cost about $18 a pair. being so cheap and available anywhere, they work out quite well.
Excellent video!!!
I look forward to Pt 3...
One day my JK will tackle the Rubicon....it has a little growing up to do first! :)
What a cool experience, felt like i was there great vid!
@Kenzie3131 TJ's are much smaller and can wiggle around obstacles rather than having to take them on. this one just had 31" tires and maybe a budget boost and, if you've watched the whole series, it took days to complete this trail.
@lovedavdubs if you can believe it, we still took on some water even with the 40" tires. in fact, we had to pull out to the left as staying to the right only got deeper.
wonderful and speculate this site for the practice of off-road
Whoever did the music for this is a legend.
+HELLICRINATIOn If you're referring to the arrangement of the songs, thank you. We're glad you enjoyed our selections :)
Once again....Great video. Keep it up. I'm always looking forward to new vids.
@23peeweeduke thank you, we're so glad that you like them
these vids are amazing you guys should make more. these are definatly the best off road trail vids ive seen so far good job please keep it up
@CrossmanM if that's the case, something like an aussie locker would work well for you. they are cheap, relatively easy to install and they work pretty good.
Outstanding off-road; i adore it so damn much
Nice. Looks like an amazing place to wheel.
@wayalife Thanky you very much for the response.... I can't wait :-)
IM NOT A JEEP GUY..CAUSE I LOVE LAND CRUISERS BUT THIS IS AWESSSOOMMMEEE!!!
@TeamGnar9 i am running trimmed down factory flares - the best out there. they look great, are super flexible/will not cause body damage and best of all, they're free!!
Awesome video. Looks like it was a lot of fun!
yup, our jeeps are our daily drivers and we drive them to the trail and back. we do not tow them anywhere.
@Ryann2891 well, you can technically run the rubicon stock but, it'd be a lot of work. i typically recommend at least 2.5" of lift, 35" tires, tow points front and rear and rocker guards as a bare minimum.
@dre200112000 you can adjust your ride to be however you want with coil overs but for us, we have ours set so that the ride is much much smoother.
@JEEPoffroad2004 thanks, we're glad that you liked it :)
@lb7706 wow, new zealand? well, we're definitely humbled to know that our videos are being enjoyed around the world - thank you for the kind words.
thank you, we're glad that you enjoyed it :)
So epic. I hope to take on the rubicon in 2013.
I dig the music, and this series is some of the most inspirational editing I have enjoyed on TH-cam. I am encouraging all of my off road buddies to check this out...so we can take on the Rubicon trail prepared and ready for serious rock crawling fun! Great job wayalife!!
@330bossman thanks, glad you liked it
Awesome soundtrack! BT rocks!
Trial after trial on the Rubicon eh? Very embarrassed to see that the individuals that did not put enough time and effort into their planning and got themselves in such a bad spot on the trail were from my beautiful country.
Looking forward to part 3!
Last part of this is what it's all about!
wayalife I like your video's keep up the good work hopefully I'll see you guys on the rubicon some time
Aftermarket rock guards and plates.A worthy investment.
@zeLc thank you, we're so glad that you like the story as we really worked hard at telling it.
very well done video! I just had my jku rubicon out there last weekend...such a fun trail
@nickkk222 awesome, the ome lift and 35's is a great setup. have fun installing it. as for part 3, working on it now and getting ready to upload it tomorrow :)
Depending on how it was built, some can be quite rough. Ours, the big white one, that thing is way nicer than stock.
Ya thats what I was thinkin. Thanks for the reply, and Keep up the vids. They are truly inspiring!
Man those jeeps are soooo nice!!! Im building up my 98 grandcherokee 4 inch roughcountry lift and 32x11.5 inch pro comp wheels for starters
These vids keep getting better and better.. Story, production, camaraderie, ... wonderful! Thanks for sharing!
@dezertjeepin thank you, we're really glad to hear that you like our videos :)
I have a dream for it .It was awesome Rubicon
super jealous off all jeeps and trails great videos!!
Subscribed! Great videos and choices of music. IMHO, Your videos are some of the best Jeep videos. I have a few, but they would never compare to yours. Your video quality is amazing.
mannn! i have been watching your videos for a while and went out and brought me a 2011 sahara put some 35 on it with 4.88 gears and a 3'' lift exhaust and an intake, didn't hit the trails yet building up the nerve but you guys are great , keep it up i am learning.
awesome vid!! very impressed with the four door rubi.
