      except Sony is not the only one in the android space that gives you that much freedom. Don't get me wrong I also currently own the Xperia 1 but LG flagships have them beat when it comes to "freedom". They have raw support in stock camera app, manual mode support in wide and ultrawide lens (xperia 1ii above also does now tho), no camera overheating and last but not the least which is important for things like astrophotography, they actually let you open the camera while on standby and not forcefully close it if you dont touch every few seconds.

      actually i hate how modern day smartphone big brand samsung apple google and others are making photo look more hdr more color and brightness but it just doesn't look real it just look crisp and clear that's all. Sony you don't need them to do all that magic for photo processing real skill is up to that individual and yes not everyone know how to use camera, but for me i haven't own camera but i def want natural look on my photo. always shoot raw on my pixel to edit it later.

    Everyone goes on about the price. Yes it's expensive! So is iPhone and Samsung and pretty much every other phone out there. But at least Sony tries to put some of that money back into R&D and is not afraid of taking some risks rather that copy pasta apple who plays investor's safe game for a decade now. Well done Sony. You got my attention ....and money.

    • @TheUnlockr
      @TheUnlockr  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The price is not higher because of R&D it’s simply because of what I said. Sony is aiming for business users mostly and selling less units at higher margins to make money. Period. Their last earnings report confirmed this as this combined with cutting a ton from their mobile division allowed them to be profitable. The price is higher but if you have an expense account and are lumping it in with the other equipment you bought (which is all much more expensive) then who cares 🤷‍♂️
      I don’t mind that they’re doing that btw but it needs to be noted is all. And it’s definitely getting better and more justified with each new Xperia (just not enough yet for my needs but might be for yours!

    • @spartanmtb2640
      @spartanmtb2640 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@TheUnlockr I think you missed my point. I only partially agree with you about the target audience for this phone. There are a lot of other people who will be interested in this phone who are not business users. I'm not a business user. I simply like photography, have a Sony Apsc which I love and after being sick of OnePlus I was considering an iphone. Now, iPhone with 256gb and similar screen size costs pretty much the same as Xperia 1 IV and probably more for I14. Yet, Xperia is more comfortable to hold (big one), doesn't feel like a heavy brick that pulls your pants down, has an SD card slot, better camera that gives you natural looking photos and a ton of control, more customisable OS and headphone jack. Anyway, what I'm saying is that a) price isn't any higher than the top dogs in the market Apple/Samsung. Yet you get more features b) Sony is introducing some new features e.g. zoom camera so share of the profits must be going toward it. I'm really sick of companies just blindly following apple's investors first, money grabbing mindset instead of thinking what customers want. I don't mind paying X if I know I'm getting Y not just filling someone's pockets

    3:24 I'd say the pixel got this one. very detailed that it even got the shadow casted by the tree and the sunlight on the pavement and as well as the light reflecting from the frames of the window. How awesome is that processing power of pixel. On the other hand, Sony captured what is the photographer actually seeing but in less details (shadow on the pavement is not that detailed) but it's more natural. just wow.

    • @PjXu98
      @PjXu98 ปีที่แล้ว

      I also prefer Pixel's camera. With the Sony, they can make some nice shots but most of the time I think it's too dark, the low light/night shots look bad and the video stabilization is horrible. Not worth its price if you buy this for the camera.

    I would love to see more videos where phones like this are used in full manual mode against the the full auto queens , like Pixels and iPhones . I think that is the most fair way to test phone cameras . That way you aren't testing just auto settings prescribed by the manufacturers but you're truly seeing the very best out of each phone camera . Too many supposed pros just use the Fisher Price setting because they have no clue how to use a real camera and it's abilities in order to get the very most a device has to offer. Even I can see basic tutorials on how to use the manual settings would be a big hit for budding photographers . Far too long we've never actually gotten the best information on our devices . All we ever get are Fisher Price settings and hope for the best. The actual best device doesn't actually win that way. I want to start seeing the VERY BEST shots and videos these devices can possibly produce.

    I'm a photographer, I do everything manually on my camera except for focussing.
    My current phone is a Galaxy S22 Ultra that also lets me do everything manually through Samsung's Expert RAW app.
    But to be honest? I don't bother. The phone does a good job with the regular camera app. I can maybe squeeze out a tiny bit more from the RAW files in Lightroom but this negligible difference simply isn't worth the effort.
    As for the zoom range of the Xperia 1 IV, it's impressive from a technical point of view but the range is so tiny, it doesn't really seem worth it to me. It gives me the impression that they just did it to be the first on the market with a zoom lense.

    I love Sony smartphones but two things that prevent me from buying: 1. Insane prices, 2. Poor heat management (Camera shutting down when weather is hot)

    Hi. I am watching many reviewers showing off 4k 120 fps in low lights and also basic shots with EIS with kinda shooting on less than 1/100 which is terrible because every single shot is motion blurred and after the EIS does it things it happens to watch a terrible linear blurring by X/Y axis which is terrible. Please guys use more than 1/100 shutter with this kind of tests!

    Biggest question I think is OS update support, the least it should be 4 years of Android updates + security updates after that. If it's less than that, it not only hurts sustainability, but aslo does not justify the price regardless of how amazing the hardware is. Anyway, Sony phones look spectacular and I dream to be able to be an owner of Sony phones again, headphone jack, beautiful design direction and probably philosophy not to go with trends every other manufacturer goes make me wanna get a Sony phone. But the prices are a bit bonkers, not talking about this pro one, even Experia 5 series are pricey where I live. Happy to see Sony phones making waves again!

    Good honest review, always had an Xperia as I like taking pictures but nothing professional. I'm getting some really nice pics but am struggling with focus on the 85mm lens on video. Interestingly, I hand down my phone's so my mum has the Xperia 1 that I replaced with the 4 so my 10 year old now has the ZX2, I showed her the basics in manual mode and she's now snapping some nice stuff. I think this is where it works for me, each phone is more capable. Was cool to use the ZX2 again though!

    When discussing price, I think it's worth mentioning that it is made in Japan and not China. I know Samsung or Asus are not made in China either, and I believe it can be an important factor for people who look for more "ethical" products. I would never consider buying a Pixel for this very reason.

    If you are a content creator, having your phone act as a modem for live streaming your alpha camera would seem to justify the price. If you are the type that would actually use all the features, i think it's well worth it.

    • @TheUnlockr
      @TheUnlockr  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree that that’s probably the only use case that makes it worth it (as I illustrated with the NFL example). I personally don’t live stream and don’t need to do it outside if I do so doesn’t make sense for me but if you make money from live streaming and can justify it as a business purchase then yeah sure! (Again like I said in the video).
      Also though you can get the Pro-I now for $1200 and get that same ability 🤷‍♂️ - amzn.to/3a683t2

      Is it worth to buy this phone?
      Or is it better to just buy Samsung or Apple.

    You are one of the very few people to do justice to a Sony phone review. You really are spot on in highlighting the strengths of this phone. The only point where I feel you are wrong is at the end when you compare prices with the Sony Alpha cams. That comparison is just not relevant coz for double the price you also get a full action packed smartphone, a gorgeous 4k display, Sony's reality audio, a capable gamer and a ton of other pluses. And finally as they say... no one phone is perfect, so I was hoping you should have mentioned that overheating issue that plagues this gem.

    I love your video style, but you missed the opportunities to use the manual mode of camera and video because the other photographer can make the photos and videos look much better with manual mode, and compared it with other flagship with AI camera, ofcourse it will look worse for the average consumer

    short answer yes because of jack and sd slot. The downside is sadly the narrow design. I'd like it to be the size of an s22 or s22 plus

    Was the photo examples shot with basic/auto mode? Sony gets a lot of critic for bad "point and shoot" but these looked totally fine by me?
    In Sweden they seem to be on a discount. At least with a carrier, both the ultra 22 and max pro is more expensive. And you get the xm4 bundled as well. I don't think that's a bad deal.

    I disagree that they aren't trying to compete with the bigger companies.
    Sure the phone has certain things catered to a specific group, but it excels quite a bit at most other things too, battery life, gaming, display, speakers, etc..... which are all specs that do matter. It competes quite well with the high end phones from other companies like the S22U, albeit at a somewhat higher price.

    Something I feel from Sony and their phone strategy is that they pack their devices with some camera features so they show to other manufacturers that something can be done and therefore, Sony sells more sensors, also that zoom feature was packed on Olympus cameras some years ago, now is getting smaller enough to fit in a phone which is amazing.
    as always liked, missed the bloopers.
