The photos are amazing! The Building at @10:10 side by side shows what's happening here.. The road, the foreground detail are cared for and the footpath on the left goes deep it looks 3D unlike the other phones where it's absolutely flat image. Even the left side of the building you see shadow on the ground (so that side is not in direct sun obviously), so the brick building is darker yet some of the phones brighten the bricks, or color boost them and then leave the ground shadow as is. The Sony you see nice darker shadow on the ground but the highlights on the parked car (under the tree) the rear bumper has a natural shiny reflection still! That's insane. The other phones wash that out or flatten it. There is also a 'warmth' to the light on the staircase and bike on the Sony, where the other phones feel like it's just 'brightness' and has like a white flare'y haze- that especially bounces off the Car windows and paint in the other phones. You can even see the light reflection on the ground from the car reaching to the manhole in road. Looks real nice on Sony and defined clearer. Also at @4:31 the foreground is soo interesting with amazing detail on the hyrdant, and the power pole colour seems natural. Amazing how the colours are SOOO different between phones. This can be seen even more in your photo with the stage (cannot find the timestamp again) where the stage is green. All phones show different shades and I doubt 3 out of 4 are even accurate. Some look like they were shot on an overcast day and that's stressful when you're preserving a moment or sharing where you are with someone and it's nowhere near a representation of reality. I also think this phone needs to stop being called a creator phone specifically even with all those specific apps. I for one prefer to shoot a 4K image on the phone and be able to look at that image in 4K resolution back on the 4K phone display. How many people have 4K monitors at home where they go view their photos from? They may never see their own images in 4K as displays are never that high on phones. These flagships specs are for anyone and with micro-sd storage and battery health options it's allowing people to use this device for a long time, unlike iPhone or Samsung that make last year's phone seem irrelevant and embarrassing to own. Sorry for the length. I vote for innovation and am not biased to any brand.
Spot on. The depth and quality of the Sony image is significantly better - the advantage of using better optics and physical technology to allow for lighter software interference. AI and HDR all too often crush an image of the nuance and feel of a scene.
I loved how you actually reviewed the "tech" inside the phone and didnt just continue blabbering about your biased opinion and whine about how the "auto" mode is not good enough like 99% of the reviewer who made a video on this phone. 🙌

I've been loving mine so far, I got mine at the end of June (in the UK) Other things I've noticed compared to the Xperia 1 IV is the front camera can do 4k 60fps in the Video Pro app, also it will allow 4K 120fps recording on your SD Card, which my 1 IV did not. The running cooler when taking pics and videos with no more overheating was one of the main reasons I upgraded to this

Thanks for the video. I have the silver 1 V and absolutely love it. Like you, i had the same issues on the 1 iv last year and was hoping they remedy said issues. They most definitely did. I have had my 1 v for about 3 weeks now and they battery keeps improving, definitely with the chip and its qcom ai learning use etc. I totally missed the cinetone aspect and literally paused your video was like wtf i missed this, and found it in settings. Thanks for that as well! Every since getting this my other devices have sat in a drawer. I find it has absolutely slaughtered my pixel 7 pro in all photo tests and in my opinion with your samples as well, even beating out the s23 u photos. They look more "real" to me. Great work as usual and thanks for sharing!
The Xperia V's photos look way better than its predecessors. Though it 's pictures are less contrast-y, they do have the feel of the traditional cameras: a bit soft, not too aggressive, slight washed off feel, which gives off a lot of style-y nostalgic vibes.
This video is a testament to the greats and flaws of the new Xperia. From the multiple functional camera, improve software processing, great thermal and battery performance, to the good but shaky telephoto, ultrawides, purple tint in low light and and probably some software issues mentioned by users and reviewers alike. Xperia hasn't been this good for quite a while. It doesn't beat the competition but it sures shakes hands with them. It's more than a phone or a companion. It's a tool.
Fantastic review as always! The technical analysis is insane. And the trip around neighborhoods is a beautiful touch. Oh yeah. The 1 V is an overloaded smartphone and I'd live to get my hands on it sometime in the future.
I'm just super happy with the biggest 3 updates, less overheating (as I've had to use my IV without a case) because it'll over heat after a minute or two recording. Then also cinetone-s mode to make everything more consistent and then also the vertical camera apps. My understanding is the thermals also were improved because of the chip now also being made by tsmc instead of Samsung like the current IV. I'm just excited to get mine in a few weeks as my daily. Along with my 14 pro max and soon nothing phone 2
Xperias tend to get overlooked by most Techtubers so there aren't that many reviews of the 1 V out there. This was hands down the best I've watched. Good job, sir.

As a keen photographer/Astrophotographer I love my Experia V but, for instance would not recommend it to a party goer who, when something suddenly crops up, suddenly needs a photo of somebody who has fallen down drunk for instance - grab the Google pixel for that auto-shot! I find your Test refreshing in delving into what it can do for the photographer who may normally have their DSLR in a bag but today has forgotten it. There has been a lot of reviews looking at the price then simply comparing it to other flagship phones mainly in zoom and auto modes and these people are simply not qualified to review this phone! well done Sir!
Damn on the "mornin'" opening the sharpness and saturation is taking us back some good 10-15 years ! It improves later. The simplicity of this Xperia is nice, doesn't appear as a road to cheapen out on the phone (the glass back and ridged edges). Strange to see fixed 120 hz forever, thought manufacturers are proud of the adaptive feature and jump to have it as fast as they can. These Bushwick graffitis sure took the cameras of all the compared phones for a ride ! Cool to see so much optical mechanical zooming happening, real shock ! Loving that. Xperia's photos seem better than S23 Ultra but not that much than Iphone and keeps juggling places with Pixel. Sure burns out the neons at night. Cool to hear it doesn't overheat now !
I wish sony still retained the 512gb version for the u.s. model on the xperia 1 v while upgrading the display brightness to at least 1,600 nits with extra brightness as an option to enable in the display settings. I'm just glad that the xperia 1 v still has the 4k 120 hz 21:9 aspect ratio with the micro sd card slot, headphone jack and dual physical sim card no e-sim.
Honestly for $1400 or £1300 in the UK I still think it is a good deal specially if you start counting the things you get with the phone (p.s mainly matters to me) SD card slot, headphone jack, front facing true stereo speakers, clean operating system, DSLR look alike camera system which is 10s of the price of a proper apha camera and it's lenses and that 21.9 aspec ratio. Btw r.i.p notification light lol I been using the Xperia 1V for nearly a month now and it is the best £1300 I've spent so far ❤
@@Mckaluge Well, I apologize for the confusion. To clarify, I'm not referring to the photo mode, but rather the video footage. From what I've seen so far, the video footage appears to be underwhelming.
Even as an average user, I would have gone with this phone if Sony support software updates more than 2 years. A 3.5mm headphone jack, MicroSD card, this phone is everything I would want if there was better software support. not to mention the phone is $1300. So why not support your flagship phones little longer than 2 years?
Xperia phones have an unnecessarily high bit rate recording where most companies would limit 4k 60fps at 60 mbps the previous sony was at 120 mbps but the 1v has a 150 mbps bit rate which is testament to how much of an improvement sd gen 2 is compared to gen 1
While that is true. As far as I know higher bitrate can also mean less (lossless) compression. Meaning less CPU usage as a tradeoff for (much) bigger file sizes.

Great review as always - and you gave me another couple of places to check out when i am in NYC in a couple weeks! I have always liked Sony phones (since back when they were partnering with Ericsson); my latest one was this phone's predecessor, the PRO I (which i only sold because i still prefer to use a real camera when i shoot images or video, for me the phone is always a last resort back up). It looks like, with the exception of the 1" sensor, this one has all the same functions - and some - plus, the proper zoom is great. Maybe when the price (which is actually not unreasonable, considering what you get) drops a bit i will consider getting one!
Another informative review and tour! Holy Cr....Cow, I never noticed how many phones you compare in one video. Yeah, how have I not noticed this before? How many phones do you take with you for a Real-World Test? Overall the pictures of the Xperia 1 V looked good with a few where the white balance was off. The videos looked good but the shot at the beginning of the review (and some others) seemed very harsh. This is the type of phone/camera that makes me want it and at the same time realizing that spending the same amount of money for a DSLR is a better option. Keep up the great work!
Refreshing real world video testing out the cameras. I wish Sony would test out their 1" sensors on their own phones. Lol hoping for an Xperia Pro I-ii later this year.
Same. I want my night shots to actually look like night shots. I don't like that the other popular brands are trying to turn them into day shots. It just looks unnatural. Also saw a comparison video which showed that the other brands' night mode loses the stars while the Xperia 1 V caught them
Anyone know the exact name of the cable he has at 14:16 ? Everytime I try to find it online people just say I need to buy a 3rd party capture card first.
Native resolution of the screen is 4k. Now, whether it's always running at native or not is a matter of settings, either user or manufacturer. Being set to run lower resolutions most of the time to save battery doesn't make the panel less of a 4k.
I watched this video at 1x speed so I could get all the photo & video technical awesomeness - THANK YOU for going in-depth on Sony's sensor build details and the differences on each one that was 💯💯

I'm German and I'm on vacation in Portugal right now😅I've had almost every Galaxy S since the Galaxy S1 but have had the Xperia Pro i since last year...... I should have switched much sooner😅These are real photos and not smartphone snapshots
I want a Sony so bad. But the camera just looks too lit up for me. I don’t want to have to get technical with every photo. It is tough. Only thing keeping me from getting one. As an a pixel fan in an iPhone the last 3 years. I just wish Sony would get it together. Can you port the pixel camera over? If so, does it work well? 🍻
At 10:31 the sky is totally overblown. My mark 2 does the same. This unfortunately also is the case for photographs. Sad to see it still being as prevalent.
Hi there. After seeing your video would you say the camera system in the 10 v for an everyday phone is above average & very decent? White balance, autofocus, dynamic range, natural colours, video stabilision and audio pickup all good? And apart from Android 14 have you have any more updates?
Thinking of getting 1 V for myself. As main camera. I have canon 5D mark 3. For product and vlog, podcast. Have light and sound equipment ofc. But..what will happen with this phone after 4 years of using?
With a Sony camera smartphone you need to do some basic settings. Try to use vivid mode, and then it exceeds the color in the iPhone. It is no useful comparison if you do not set the camera up properly as they are made with a different ideology behind them. Sony is a camera with smartphone capabilities and the iPhone is a gadget phone with camera a with "point and shoot" for the ladies taking party pictures (yes I'm joking).
Very unlikely you will read this but I will try, I love your knowledge and how you present these videos however the quality degradation of the original footage by TH-cam compression is rendering the Xperia videos to very bad levels, terrible level, it looks quite washed out and pixelated, I think they don't represent the full potential of these flagship phones, I am a Sony fan so I had to say it, I don't mean to bother, I hope you don't hate me for it, please keep making this great content, you are great at it.
This is not TH-cam compression, you can see how much better other TH-camrs can put out. It's what happens when you smudge the camera lenses before shooting your footage.
Interested to know if the photo samples with the Xperia and S23 ultra were both taken auto = phone out, camera app and shoot pics or if there was alot of tweaking within the apps on the Sony??
It's a year later and the V is still expensive, compared to the IV which is now less than a thousand. I'm thinking of getting one of them, would you recommend the V or the IV? I think the V actually has some drawbacks despite being more pricey, such as the front camera lacking autofocus?
My next phone. My Pixel 7 Pro is ok but the screen isn't as good as my XZ3. Not bright enough under the sun and colors not as vibrant. I miss the dual front speakers too.
Loving my MK5 It feels like the phone to redeem sony as i love how xperia 1's looked all of them 1-IV but they always had same problems heat bad battery etc Mk5 fixes all of that and I love it

Thanks for watching it!
2:50 oh thats good, I was wondering why you would buy a 4k screen since its basically impossible to tell with most media at most distances
Looks to me you can't go wrong with any of those four phones. I'll probably never buy an iphone again, but it looks great on every photo.
Ha usually between 6-8 phones 😂 Thank you for watching these pain in the ass videos to make :)
Finally an Xperia review that's not "Well it doesn't work as an iPhone or Samsung so it's bad".
Well done, man!!!
Thank you!
Thank you, i really enjoyed the stuff about the sensor-tech!
Thank you for watching and glad it wasn't too technical!
Refreshing real world video testing out the cameras. I wish Sony would test out their 1" sensors on their own phones. Lol hoping for an Xperia Pro I-ii later this year.
Same 😂 thanks for watching!
Does it produce bookeh when shooting videos?
2:17 exactly how I hold the phone and unlock using left hand. 100percent same
11:54 I actually like the night mode on the Xperia 1 V more
Same. I want my night shots to actually look like night shots. I don't like that the other popular brands are trying to turn them into day shots. It just looks unnatural. Also saw a comparison video which showed that the other brands' night mode loses the stars while the Xperia 1 V caught them
except at 17:15. The iPhone looks way more natural unfortunately.
@@rickyjung1260totally. The muddy magenta tiny with compression looks bad. I’m a camera guy and that night shot looked bad
Very interesting video, diving into deep subjects while entertaining also with other fun facts about brooklyn is always nice (:
Great video !
Thank you!
I really wish I could get one of these 😠 dream phone for sure
Cuando habrá una revisión del Xp1-Vl??
i have this phone. And i would say that i am a bit annoyed by the noise in the telephono camera.
very beautiful video I liked it a lot, thanks
Hands down, one of your best - the comparison between 4 and 5 cameras...pff, I think you should write a book
Thank you!!
I watched this video at 1x speed so I could get all the photo & video technical awesomeness - THANK YOU for going in-depth on Sony's sensor build details and the differences on each one that was 💯💯
Ha watching a video at 1x speed is high praise. Thank you!
@@TheUnlockr Vs. my usual 1.25x/1.5x - society is so hyperdrive speed anymore right? 😂
Im portuguese and I live in Lisboa when I feel I need to chill I come to see this guy's real world tests, this is really calming and chilling for me. I would never buy a sony xperia I only buy samsung S line or Iphone but I love the content format. Really nice content, thanks from across the world good friend. keep up the good work.
I'm German and I'm on vacation in Portugal right now😅I've had almost every Galaxy S since the Galaxy S1 but have had the Xperia Pro i since last year...... I should have switched much sooner😅These are real photos and not smartphone snapshots
Aw means a lot that you come to watch these even if you don't intend to buy the tech in the video so thank you for that 🙏
I want a Sony so bad.
Don't worry, it's not too bad. Sure you need to learn to get the most out of the Xperia, but learning is never a bad thing.
Very realistic sensor.
Can you review realme phones? Great review on the Xperia 1 V btw.
le xperia est le meilleur
couleurs parfaites et réelles
At 10:31 the sky is totally overblown. My mark 2 does the same. This unfortunately also is the case for photographs. Sad to see it still being as prevalent.
Unfortunately, it looks like no one knows how to turn HDR on.
Terrific review. I'm waiting for mine and this answered a number of questions. Thanks.
Thank you for watching it!
سيدي كنت بنتظرك 💗💗💗📸🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺💘💘💘 استمر محتوى جميل للغاية
huge different between 1iv in auto mode camera! kudos Sony!
Great review, Question,Does the Xperia 1 V compatible with AT&T HD voice and 5G?
Will the phone slow down if i insert a sd card in it ?
I like niche phones i like this much thanx
With a Sony camera smartphone you need to do some basic settings. Try to use vivid mode, and then it exceeds the color in the iPhone. It is no useful comparison if you do not set the camera up properly as they are made with a different ideology behind them. Sony is a camera with smartphone capabilities and the iPhone is a gadget phone with camera a with "point and shoot" for the ladies taking party pictures (yes I'm joking).
Great review buddy, how's the screen brightness like under direct sunlight? As I found previous models to be too dim
What carrier were you using? I'm considering this as a replacement but I'm worried about coverage.
I mean if it doesn't overheat, its worth it to upgrade from the mk4. Once it overheats, you cant really use it.
Interested to know if the photo samples with the Xperia and S23 ultra were both taken auto = phone out, camera app and shoot pics or if there was alot of tweaking within the apps on the Sony??
Love your vids and reviews, if you are in Chicago again hit me up
Really need this phone for my content 😅
Great phone, waiting the Xperia 5 v badlyyyy
came for the phone stayed for the bike
The portraits were telling. This camera has better pixel depth with less overall image compression- to hide noise
cant wait for pro i2
It's a year later and the V is still expensive, compared to the IV which is now less than a thousand. I'm thinking of getting one of them, would you recommend the V or the IV? I think the V actually has some drawbacks despite being more pricey, such as the front camera lacking autofocus?
He never touched Sony again. Xperia 1 VI
My next phone. My Pixel 7 Pro is ok but the screen isn't as good as my XZ3. Not bright enough under the sun and colors not as vibrant. I miss the dual front speakers too.
Loving my MK5
It feels like the phone to redeem sony as i love how xperia 1's looked all of them 1-IV
but they always had same problems
heat
bad battery
etc
Mk5 fixes all of that and I love it
Hows the low light shots ? Or night mode shots ?
10:17 - Xperia 5 V leak or typo?
Typo 😂
Loved your Volcon Brat !
Hello, good sir.Could you review honor 90?many reviewers said that the phone could be the challenger of pixel 7a.Thanks,love from Malaysia
Great review 👍 if I don't chose Sony what will be my gain? 😅 Let assuming Sony equiped this phone with 200MP camera what will be the result. Kudos to Sony 👍 they've been my fav as always.
What the heck happened to its front cam?
The Pixel Fold is the one I'm really waiting for!
Coming soon! (He says typing from the Pixel Fold)
Why is the video from the I mk 5 so grainy
Really love your vids, the day in a life mixed with some learning is really creative 🙏
Thank you! Trying to do one a week now 🤞
One question how much it heats up on sunny day at around 35-40 degrees celzius?
this phone exist as a test mule to eventually move their cameras to the Android platform thereby gaining all the neat features of computational photography with a full-frame sensor
Samsung made the Galaxy K Zoom in 2014, which has a range of 24-240mm completely optical zoom and 1/2.3 inch sensor, i wonder what manufacturer could do in 2023
No Macbook Air 15 Review?
Why is the Pixel 7 Pro always coming up on top on the still pic department?
Price and software update is the key factor for me getting this phone
have you had any over heating or the phone getting hot atall? I just upgraded to this phone will be here tomorrow ive read alot of people saying it gets to hot to touch??? Worrying abit now
Does the bokeh video Mode Support 4k?
