Someone already mentioned soaking the braiding hair in apple cider vinegar before installing, I agree. My head would always get itchy until I started doing this. Try 2:1 ratio of water:ACV. Also spritzing my scalp with pure 100% aloe vera juice (natural humectant) also helps keep my scalp moisturized when have braids or twists. I leave the oil for the ends of braids so I don't develop too much buildup on my scalp.

How often do you wash your hair? You still need to wash your scalp and get all the oil and product off of it. Also I have heard that you should either soak or wash the hair you braid with prior too installing to help prevent the itchy scalp.

  • @blacknetizen

Did you soak the braiding hair in apple cider vinegar before braiding? I know untreated braiding hair can cause itchiness for a lot of people.

Hey! don't use too many products too often in your hair with the braids because it will cause buildup, which causes buildup knots at the root of your hair starting after new growth or braids loosening. My knots weren't too bad mainly at my front and back edges. You just have to comb them out gently. Maybe you can figure out a different solution to this. I just took my braids out today and thank goodness I only kept them in for only a month. My hair definitely came out some, which is probably normal because without braids during styling you lose strands of hair anyway. All I used was some vitamin E oil which I just dripped in my roots to help with the itchiness. I had medium size braids and loved them. I love your braids as well. Thanks for sharing!

Jaleesa, I am curious as to why you used wefted hair (those short pieces are called the beards) instead of loose braiding hair. Braiding hair comes in human and synthetic. You don't have to cut the hair off a weft to access it. There is no weft. I hope this helps. And I apologize if you already knew this info.

    • @saythelees

Washing the braiding hair in vinegar and water before hand is a must love. That removes the chemical on the braiding hair that irritates the scalp and causes terrible itching.
