@@awesomeale407 They didn't go everyday for this though. They did spend a chunk of their mornings doing self care, it was important to do that until the 1960s.
I mean, If you think about it, they had a lot of time on their hands because unfortunately they couldn’t do much outside of the home. There’s only so much housework to be done.
They were making us do it on straight hair, with wet, diluted gel. Now that I’m watching this, I’m starting to think maybe it wasn’t me that sucked at doing them... but the way I was being taught to do them sucked.
Same for the school I went to. Wet, straight mannequin hair, that is hard to do things on in the first place, with some setting lotion and a comb. I've seen many videos using various types of wave clips to make the actual wave shape. No way they would have let us use those. I am glad to finally see a video where the finger waves are being made using FINGERS. I think this is much nicer method than I was taught.

Create Beautiful Hair visit @missdarkgarden on IG to see how it turned out 😊 I’m sure it would have been better had I used your tong approach but I started with pin curls on myself
HI Rachel, you can definitely create this style without using heat tools - you can create waves on damp hair using a little bit of gel to help the waves to hold, but use the same waving techniques with your comb and fingers - then just let the hair dry - good luck!
@@createbeautifulhair6642 Thank you so much for letting me know. I just found you and subscribed. I will look for you on Wednesdays. I have been binge watching your videos and I love them.
@@createbeautifulhair6642 I will do that. I have been thinking that I would love to see some hairstyles that would look good in hot weather. I live in Florida it is hot and humid here most of the time I do have AC every where I go but we have a lot of get togethers (well not right now but before this covid we did) I like looking like a lady put together. I don't like the thrown together with a messy bun look . Do you have any ideas for something that can hold up to heat and humidity ? I don't mind taking the time to put the look together. The finger wave video was great so now I am wearing that one for sure I have never seen anyone do it the way you did it was perfect so much easier than I have done it in the past made me go back to it. I never thought about only doing the top and smoothing out the sides like you did it is saving so much time and still looks just as beautiful. You are so talented! Wow you should be my teacher 😍 you’re awesome, thanks for sharing this tutorial 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 I need to learn this for this my final day of hairstyle class 🙏🏻

awesome thank you. . sorry for my delay in getting back to you for some reason my laptop has stopped notifying me when I get a message through form youtube and I don't know how to get it back again!! hence the delay.
This was still part of the exam when I went to school. Her execution is perfect, but one thing though: I think the hair is not wet enough. Hair only holds it's shape when wave is done in wet hair and then left to dry.
I have thick curly hair that I get straightened. I think I would just put my hair in small rollers and sleep on them and I know that when I wake up I would have curl that I could brush into a Marcelle wave.
I notice that she had naturally curly hair! I do too and I’m wondering if there is any way I can create fingerwaves without straightening my curls? Any tutorials or advice? Or if this is even possible? 😂 i have 3c curls
HI Erica, it is much easier to create finger waves on naturally curly hair -- it would be best not straighten your hair first. Finger waves replicate the movement of naturally curly hair - when it is wet - so you could create them on your hair whilst it is wet, just by using a comb - following the same techniques shown in the tutorial minus the curling. Alternatively, you could still tong the hair - but there should be no need to straighten it first. Good luck!
HI Ally, thanks for getting in touch, yep, this technique works on wet hair, the finger wave technique is the same, you might find it helpful to put a bit of gel on the wet hair as well, as this helps the hair to stay n place, it's not essential, but it is helpful when you are just learning the technique. Finger waving when the hair is wet is ALWAYS easier on hair that has natural curl, as we are replicating the way naturally curly hair falls when it is wet - so if at all possible practice on someone who has curly hair! Let me know how you get on :) Stay safe and well xx
I don't know anything about hair so I thought I would attempt doing this step by step but I was too bold. 😁 I'll keep trying it until I get it right. I hope I don't burn my hair
Hi Tina, thanks for getting in touch, there is a technique whereby you can use straighteners to achieve waves, but when I've tried it I didn't get a very authentic 'look'. I'm sure it can be done - but I haven't managed it :S Every one finds their way - and my way is definitely through tongs! I hope this helps
HI Sarienn, thanks for getting in touch. You can still create this style, you would find it easiest to practice on the front section of your hair- so choose where you would like your part to be and take a section down to just behind your ear, secure the rest of the hair our of the way - create a low bun perhaps - and then practice the technique as shown in the video. It's always easier to practice when you get the bulk of the hair out of the way, practice the technique on one side first of all and then the other. . . as you'll find one side will be easier to work on than the other! Good luck : )
Thanks for getting in touch - I use mousse for the hair prep - any mousse will do - if you are working with fine hair a strong hold mousse would be good! Good luck!
