    Welcome to my video about the psychiatric nurse practitioner classes and school curriculum. If you are considering becoming a psychiatric nurse practitioner and want to learn more about the classes you will take, you've come to the right place.
    ☕ Help support my channel and Buy Me A Coffee - www.buymeacoffee.com/rickpmhnp
    In this video, I breakdown my nurse practitioner classes that are part of the psychiatric nurse practitioner program. I will cover the core courses that all nurse practitioner students take, as well as the specialized courses that are unique to psychiatric nurse practitioner students.
    As a psychiatric nurse practitioner student, you will learn about mental health assessment and diagnosis, as well as the latest treatments and therapies for various mental health disorders. You will also learn about psychopharmacology and how to prescribe medication safely and effectively.
    In addition, you will take classes in psychotherapy and counseling, which will prepare you to provide evidence-based therapeutic interventions for individuals and groups. You will also learn about crisis intervention and management, which is an important skill for psychiatric nurse practitioners to have.
    Other classes that you will take include research methods, healthcare policy, and professional issues in nursing. These courses will provide you with a comprehensive understanding of the healthcare system and the role of nurse practitioners in it.
    At the end of the program, you will complete a clinical practicum, where you will have the opportunity to work with patients under the supervision of a licensed psychiatric nurse practitioner. This is a valuable experience that will help you apply the knowledge and skills you learned in class to real-world situations.
    If you're interested in becoming a psychiatric nurse practitioner and want to learn more about the nurse practitioner classes you will take, be sure to watch this video. And if you have any questions or comments, please leave them in the comments section below.

    Just finished my program at UT Arlington. It was very difficult as it’s supposedly one of the harder programs in Texas, but it was doable. Just a piece of advice: DO NOT GIVE UP. There were a few times I wanted to tap out, but I stuck with it. You can do it. Let me know if you have any questions and I’d love to help you. 👊🏼🙏🏼
    P.S. Get your preceptors NOW. That was very difficult for a lot of people.

      Congrats on finishing your program. You are so right, persistence is the key. And I totally agree with your preceptor advice. I started looking for a preceptor as soon as I was accepted into the program!

      @@MyPMHNPJourney RE: Paying for preceptors. There are a lot of them that won’t do it unless they are paid. I suggest trying to find a psychiatrist because many of them don’t want money, they just want to practice altruism. One of the primary reasons for me wanting to be an NP is to get away from the “nurses eat their young” thing and the fact that many are soooo catty and arrogant. Well, there are a lot of arrogant and greedy NPs too. We should all try to help one another so we will be taken more seriously. Appreciate your reply. 🙏🏼

    Could you go over how you found preceptors. How do you approach it? Do you go in or do you contact the company? Does every hospital have psych NP?

    • @MyPMHNPJourney
      @MyPMHNPJourney  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      Kelsey, that you for watching my video and for your question. Finding preceptors seems to be the biggest stressor for NP students! I started looking for preceptors the day I received my school acceptance letter. My go to resource - LinkedIn. I did not know a single PMHNP when I started and now I have two preceptors/sites lined up for my first clinicals starting in January. Here is a video I did about how I used LinkedIn >> How To Find Preceptors For NP School With LinkedIn #npstudent 🔭

      @MyPMHNPJourney  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Good question, thank you for watching the video and taking time to comment. Let’s be sure we don’t confuse the pace of the program with the content of the program. That being said, I think pace has more to do with your life and how much time you can put into a program. What are some of the concerns you and her have about a program pace? Are there specific factors you are trying to weigh out? Let me know and I can better respond. You might also watch this video… th-cam.com/video/Bw1qOC-OS68/w-d-xo.html

    • @MyPMHNPJourney
      @MyPMHNPJourney  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Great question! You are absolutely not too old. I addressed this subject in my video here… th-cam.com/video/HECSKo41HDA/w-d-xo.htmlsi=3-ociCeGrQ3WiH1Y. In fact, I think that employers (and patients) are more comfortable with an older provider. You bring valuable life and interpersonal relationship experience that some younger NPs just have not yet gained. Thanks for this great question. are there psych NP programs or do you get your NP and then go back for a post masters certificate ?

    • @MyPMHNPJourney
      @MyPMHNPJourney  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Great question. Both options are available. I am in a psych NP specific program, but FNPs can also go and get a post masters cert in psych. Likewise, I have the option of retuning and getting a post masters cert for FNP.

      I am sure it is possible, depending on how your Ethiopian degree converts to the requirements for a MSN program. Each university has their own requirements, so you will have to submit a transcript to the school you want to attend. They can tell you definitively what you need to do to start a PMHNP program. Does that help?
