    "Just be nice to the gentleman Fancy, they'll be nice to you."
    Pouring his tea is a euphemism for acting as his social hostess, which refers to her sleeping with him.
    And yeah, you gotta watch Does He Love You! It's another great video (Really good videos are Reba's trademark thing) but it also is a fantastic duet where she hits some crazy notes.

    • @TheSksexton
      @TheSksexton 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      But she said, wasn't very long before a benevolent man took her off the street. Thats who she was pouring tea for. I always understood it as he took her out of that lifestyle. Using her as his "social hostess" wouldn't be very benevolent.
      Its not the same dude her mom sold/give her to. Some time, how long isn't specified, passed between the two.

    • @katherinenelson5905
      @katherinenelson5905 3 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      @@TheSksexton "Benevolent" has a whole host of levels of meanings, take a girl who is working the street into your house to play hostess to one man, who then introduces her to other high powered men per an old school mistress roles may seem benevolent to that woman while others may see it as continuing her abuse.

    • @gw9502
      @gw9502 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      She's saying her mama may have started her on a different road but she was going to become a lady, she would live up to her name. It was that determination that caused her to learn and act like a lady which caught the eye of the benevolent man who helped her for favors of course. Once she worked her way into that level she was able to give back in hopes she could save a few kids from the same fate. Most hookers don't get a Richard Gere.

    If there's any questions about county music, I'm here for ya!
    Country music is best when you're sitting on the tailgate of a pickup truck around a campfire but when you can't do that , I advise watching the videos rather than the live performances. They are both wonderful still the videos give you a little more insight into the care of the music.
    I love watching your reaction videos keep doing what you're doing thank you!!!

    Man, I saw Reba live in concert at Arco Arena as a teen, had Gold Circle seats, third row... she started the concert with this song, was fucking amazing. It started with the cameras up top showing her in the cab talking to the driver, then suddenly the cab came out on stage and she stepped out in that thick fur coat. She was singing and then when it got to the chorus she opened the fur coat and dropped it and this amazing red sequin gown burst into blue lightning with the lighting behind her. I could see up on the screens that those closer had to use since they werent close enough to see for themselves, but I shit you not bro it was just a bit sparkly on the screen, but up close IRL it looked like she was bathing in blue lightning, just like it was electricity flowing around her entire body. Was fucking glorious. Her and Linda Davis came out over my head later in the concert singing the battle part of Does He Love you. I could have reached up and touched her feet.

      @Elizabeth Stanford, you don't listen, do you? I'm all for interpolating songs to fit one's life/needs, but if you're not going to listen to anything but the chorus in a Reba McEntire song, don't come cryin' to us when we all blast you for not having a clue about the rest of the story. Mama: "I'm real sick and the baby's gonna starve. If you want OUT, it's up to you." Fancy: "Well, that was the LAST time I saw my mama," etc.
      Listen to the damned verses, please and thank you, so the rest of us don't have to waste time schooling you. More importantly, it's an insult to Reba's story-telling. Please try again.

I thoroughly enjoyed your video, But hope you take my following suggestions as positive feedback to help improve upon what you are already doing well. I was a little disappointed you didn’t comment on her incredible VOICE!!! May I suggest a couple of things when making these types of videos? 1) alway comment on the musical talent (playing of musical instruments); 2) comment on the singing voice or voices; 3) have the lyrics in front of you (u may already do this); AND 4) always back it up 3-5 seconds each time u restarting the song when giving ur comments. Nos. 3&4 are for your benefit so u don’t miss any great effects. I think these 4 suggestions will really improve your “overall video/review.” 💕

    That’s awesome I didn’t notice that sign before you bringing it out, it is the first time I’ve noticed it. And at the bottom it says: “To Thine own South Be True” which is what her mom had engraved on that locket that she had given her.😭

    Basically, her mother raised her dirt poor and knew the only way Fancy would ever get out of poverty was with her good looks and charm with the gentlemen.

      Garth Brooks sucks big time. He is a talentless hack. I'm convinced he sold his soul to the devil for a career. If Oklahoma could get away with denying him they would.

    My grandpa didn't smile much, but when he did. Reba was usually singing something on tv. Your top 3 are good ones, and I like those songs more than almost all, but I think I could find some other songs that might change your top 3. Maybe not. But I am sure I can find some that will come in 4th, 5th, 6th, etc....

    I've seen Reba 6 times in concert! When she did this song... She had on an overcoat when she came out... Just like in the video...
    Then when she started talking about the red velvet dress and got to the chorus... The long gorgeous red velvet dress just fell out of the coat when she took it off. before you could see her legs in the coat you could not see the dress at all! It was really very dramatic.
    She puts on a very good concert completely worth the money.
    Now... if you haven't already... I request that you go listen to Vince Gill and Patty Loveless at George Jones funeral (look for this live performance). The song is called "Go rest high on the mountain'.
    Vince Gill wrote the song for his brother when he died. He and Patty loveless were very good friends of George Jones and they sang it in his tribute.
    If you've not checked out George Jones yet, there are so many good George Jones songs but one of his big ones is "He stopped Loving her Today". A few personal favorites of mine from George Jones are "Who's going to fill their shoes", "I don't need no rocking chair", "The Corvette Song".
    There are so many more that I could go on and on! George Jones was the Bad Boy of Country music back in the 1960's. He earned the reputation of "No Show Jones". Because he often would go off with the club owners or someone and go party and not show up for his concerts.
    My Mom said that people would go not knowing if he would show up or not.... But weather he did or didn't... Everybody still loved him.
    Booze, drugs and wild ways were just apart of who George Jones was during that time.
    He married Tammy Wynette (ya need to check her out too.. "Stand By Your Man") and they have a daughter named Georgette.
    Tammy couldn't tame George and they ended up getting a divorce ironically it was after the song came out stand by Your Man.
    George got remarried and his new wife Nancy was able to calm his butt down. George got clean and sober and he made some fantastic records. You got to check him out. God rest his soul.
