    Stroker Ace was the last movie I ever saw at a drive in theater. Went with my mom and dad. It has just occurred to me today, how much of a miracle that was, considering that my dad listened to Siskel and Ebert, which he used as a guide to which movies he should or shouldn't see. Dad was big on Siskel and Ebert and such, and read Consumer Reports before he would purchase anything. He probably didn't buy a gallon of milk or a box of condoms, without first seeking the advice of Consumer Reports magazine. Looking back, he probably took me because he knew that I, as a 10 year old kid, would love this movie because of the race cars and the comedy, and knowing him, to see the beautiful Ms. Loni Anderson and Elvira (Cassandra Peterson) for himself. Stroker Ace is one of my all time favorite movies, and I feel sad for any of the poor suckers that listened to the 2 intellectual putzes known as Siskel and Ebert, and skipped out on this classic film, with its all star cast. If you loved NASCAR, Burt Reynolds, and good laughs, this movie hit the spot !!!!!!!! It was Burt doing what Burt did best: Show off !!!!!!!!!

    I love Burt Reynolds. He was an iconic actor that was amazing in his roles. At the movies was just a puff piece with two critics that now are but a footnote in a history of haters. I mean the criteria should be adjusted with the type of film being shown. They would be scoffing in today's climate with all the comic book movies and tired action films so CGI heavy that they would hate all of it. Burt is a charismatic actor that honestly I couldn't see in terms of endearment but maybe Heartburn or Witches of Eastwick. Or maybe if he would've lived longer a fast and the furious cameo. His movies were our fast and the furious and at least they were entertaining. He won an Oscar for boogie nights, so he finally got an Oscar.

    Burt would have had a very good and respected career had he not met Hal Needhm or work him as a director.

      Whilst I don’t agree with this statement 100%, I certainly think his loyalty to Hal cost him, if he never met Hal, there would be no Smokey & The Bandit, which is easily his most popular movie.

      That's only half true. If he stopped with the good ol' boy car chase movies after Hooper or even the first Cannonball Run, and stuck to serious roles after that he could have saved his career.

    All this stuff is fantastic, it's ludicrous you don't have many more subs.

      Thank you for saying that... I'm probably doing something wrong... At least the subs I have are real and seem to enjoy the content. Cheers! Gator

      @@GATORMcKLUSKYreviews your not doing anything wrong, just takes the right people to see your content, unfortunately alot of Burt fans just aren't on utube searching for material , I've only been on utube a few years now myself and just happened to stumbled acrossed your channel, take my dad for instance he absolutely loved Burt and he loved utube content, but only when I would put it on for him and get it started, he would just let the auto play go and if he didn't like what came in he just hit the next icon, when he was alone he said it was all to confusing to mess with trying to find stuff to get started, unfortunately thats alot of the Burt fan base, our parents that introduced us to Burt's movies, keep going my friend more and more older folks are picking up on how all this stuff works and the utube algorithm will start getting your material more mainstream as you gain views and subs, at least thats how I understand it works, best of luck my friend love the content but had to take a little break I lost dad some months ago and had to steer clear of things that reminded me of him, and he loved anything and everything Burt and he loved your channel the couple of times I put it on for him so I had to try avoid it for awhile because it reminded me so much of him and how much I miss him, ✌🏻

    When I was a kid in the 80's there was a scene in this movie with Loni in a fringed bikini. Through the years I've watched it several times and never saw that scene again. Does anyone know the story behind why it was removed??

    I recall reading that Stroker Ace was originally intended for Steve McQueen but he unexpectedly died young in 1980 and Hal was stuck for a lead actor after the movie was in limbo for years

    I’m old enough to have seen this in theaters as a kid (9). I can remember it being the first movie I saw that was bad, even as a kid i was like this is a bad movie.

    This was the beginning of the end for Burt’s career. I was maybe in 10th grade and a fan but even I thought that movie sucked. By that point Burt’s brain was not making the decisions, maybe another organ was responsible because no one with a half brain would have done this movie. He turned down Terms of Endearment for this 💩!

      @@slightlymad22 I still like Burt more Warren Beaty or Robert Redford and really like Hooper , Smokey and Cannonball Run is definitely a guilty pleasure but ruining your career by doing really 💩 movies is just plain stupid. Burt just liked having a good time but surrounding yourself with friends is not a way to grow as an artist. bitching about not getting respect is worse, unless you are Rodney.

      @slightlymad22 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@kamillgran9408 Burt was well aware of the mistakes he made in retrospect. Roger Ebert said it best ‘Greater love hath no actor, than that he sacrifice his career on the altar of friendship.’
