This is the only video that discusses this, out of 10000 of videos about the damn thing. And this is like the most important topic about it too. Underrated video. Marry me you british vixen.
It's soooo good to watch old but gold youtube videos, where people used to be more sucinct, teaching things, without asking people to subscribe, or with NordVPN or Skillshare commercials, omg, TH-cam used to be such a better place before!! Thanks for your tutorial!
ok there are so many steps🤐 I thought at first, why not JUST start a new MTR project, I practice songs over and over in stereo mode till I'm satisfied with one take then I move onto another song I what to perfect, but with this technique I can transfer my best take onto MTR then when I'm ready to put in the work I can begin the creative process of multi track recording, thanks 😁 I think I have plan 😃
Thanks for this video. I had been to the forums and no one wanted to help me, other than to tell me to read manuals and start a full course in digital recording. This video answered all my questions 9 years later. Nice job, very simple explanations and directions.
Merci. Je cherchais depuis des semaines à réaliser cette opération qui n'est pas décrite dans le manuel de l'appareil. Votre exposé est simple, clair et brillant. Félicitations!
Thank you for this! I was reading the instructions and they made no sense. I love the H4N Pro and was getting frustrated with trying to figure the MTR mode out. Thank you so much!
Awesome help. I couldn't work it out from the manual. Loved the little errors you made and corrected. Made it real! Just the sort of things anyone might do.
Just got a new H4nPro Wednesday (9/25) for my birthday. Traded a Tascam DP-008EX toward it. Tascam was way harder to get files into the SD card than the Zoom. Moving a track from Stereo to MTR is a little involved but not too bad. You can also just start out recording the first 1/2 tracks in the MTR mode and then add your 1 or 2 tracks and effects as needed. Thanks for posting!
yeah that should work why not just record all my practice takes onto MTR and save them as MTR then when I do finally get a take I really like I can by pass the process of transferring stereo files to MTR project 🤔
Brilliant, thanks a bunch. I bought my H4n yesterday and could not for my life add my 4-channel recording into a MTR project. I could not find how to do this in the manual either. Your video was just what I needed. That said, I believe it is kinda silly of Zoom not to allow me to browse the other directories from the MTR project menu. Not a very intuitive method of importing files to MTR. Anyway, I am indebted to you, thanks again! Edit: Ok, now that I know what to look for I found this part in the manual. You're the best :) Zs
Many thanks. After spending many unsuccessful hours, trying to get this to work, I finally succeeded, by following the video very carefully. Thanks again!
I cannot thank you enough. Almost all the tutorials on this Zoom unit cover the basics and or are too complicated to understand. This was easy to follow and answered my question. Thank you again. I am also assuming one can bring in a BOUNCED track to the MTR and add two more tracks if needed. Am I correct?
Thank you. This has been a life saver. Great presentation. Do you have any of your guidance in the form of notes/transcript? Sometimes don't have access to computer when doing recording on ZH4n.
Is it possible to record two separate mono sources with the two external inputs? Also, in this video... When you record the next track on top of the first one, which mic is recording it? It seems to be mono I mean, and the built in mics are a pair.
HI THERE KEITH KUHN HERE I USE THE H4N & THE H4N PRO I LOVE THEM BOTH. YOUR HOW TO IS EXCELLENT. I JUST SUBSCRIBED. KEITH KK MOTION PICTURES ALSO ON TH-cam
Hi ASMR , When I get to the step at 2;59--when I press select NEXT I get a a note on the screen that says "44.1kHz/16bit WAV Format Only". And Im not able to continue the process of moving the file.Im open to any suggestion on what to do next . Thank You
I went through all your videos and you don’t even get into how to actually use it. Amazing. I’m trying to use an external mic. It’s not covered in any of the videos. Wow. Did you delete some videos? Because I’m obviously missing something. I’m looking at all the comments. Everyone is so happy. I’m totally lost.
I tried this but it when I try to move the file to the project is says '44.1khz/16 bit Wav format only!' I normally record in 96 khz/24bit for maximum quality, is there nothing that can be done?
Ran into the same problem! I moved the file onto my Mac, opened up Compressor, and converted it to 44.1kHz 16 bit mono WAV file, then moved it back. Worked fine after that!
Hello, not easy to understand 🥵... What is the difference between File & Folder ? I am a drummer and I would like to record my drums (with 2 mics or mixer ...) playing on a recording tune, is it possible ? Thanks a lot for your answer, musically, Emilio L. (France).
Thank you! Is there a way to process the different tracks of one file on your computer e.g. in garageband, for instance if I want some reverb over one track?
Hi Academy, I need a giant help !! When writing as banners in my MTR project, a .ZIF file is generated on the card. The thing is, I can not get a program to open a file or convert it. I want to use no hearing, but it does not open either. What to do ?? Thanks in advance
ZIF files are tiny (probably stands for Zoom Information Format), and is just for the recorder to use internally. The individual tracks of an MTR recording are stored as .wav files in the project folder, which can be opened and edited in the computer
What if you need to hear the first track (or tracks 1/2 in this case) in order to record a new track? Would that first stereo file that you moved into MTR be heard while you were recording track 3 if you were listening with headphones?
This is a great tutorial and series. Thank you! The one thing I would like to add is that you can only do multi track recording in Rec Format 44.1 kHz/16bit WAV. Is that right?
ASMR Academy: 1.- I haver 300 song in my computer, in MP3 mode. I read them with VLC player. 2.- I want to transfer this 300 songs to my SD card of the Zoom H4n 3.- How is the correct way to do it. 4.- Once, a long time ago, I transferred my music to the H4n, but strange this time was not possible 5.- I tried to ways: A.- I transferred the folder to MTR. Result the memory was half used but the zoom h4n says 'no data' B.- I transferred the 300 files (songs) to the H4n (MTR). Result: memory half used, but Zoom H4n says 'no data'. So no way to listen the music B.-
BEWARE!! The Zoom won't transfer the file unless the record button #1 is OFF! At the "link" step, make sure the record button #1 is off. Then it will transfer.
thank you so much we were able to record sax in an industrial park. you can hear my music on spotify amazon and google play if you look up hot alien shit

Absolutely fantastic. Thank you for this, you helped a man record his album 6 years in advance!
Perfect! Not an easy thing to work out from the manual, but your videos are so clear and simple. Bless you!

Thank you, thank you, thank you! It's so easy when you show us.
7:35 so it doesn't play the other tracks while you're recording the others. How are you supposed play along if you can't hear it.
Your video helped me much.
I could not figure out how to do stereo to MTR.
Now i know how.
Many many thanks.
Another excellent tutorial. I love my h4n pro

You are a life saver. Thanks for the tutorials on this nice but terribly hard to navigate device.
So happy I found this video. Works a treat. 😀🙏
Thank you so much! This was not explained very well in the manual. You are a life saver!

This was exactly what I needed to learn. Thank you.
Brilliant, nice and precise, and well shown video, gave up the manual !!! this helped me multitrack in minutes. Thanks
wow, life saver! doing a project past midnight for tomorrow morning!
Very instructional video. May I say that you have absolutely beautiful hands.
Thank you for taking the time to make this helpful video.
You are a legend. Thank you for a great video.
Thank you for this clear presentation. You have a great gift of explanation.
gracias!!! muchas gracias! Saludos desde Chile!
Many thanks for your clear instruction. Saved my head.
Thankyou, Thankyou. I have been trying to figure that out - moving a file over to be the track 01 of a MTR project. Thanks.
you are the best! i like your voice
Thank you. This has been a life saver. Great presentation. Do you have any of your guidance in the form of notes/transcript? Sometimes don't have access to computer when doing recording on ZH4n.
Thank you for this video. Is multi track the correct option for me to record two XLR microphones for a podcast on separate tracks?
Such a helpful video; I needed this thank you!
You’re an excellent teacher 🙏🏽
the best explanation!! thanks!!
Just what I needed. Thanks!

Succinct, concise and easy to follow. Thank YOU!
When overdubbing, how do you listen to the tract that you are adding to?
Hi ASMR , When I get to the step at 2;59--when I press select NEXT I get a a note on the screen that says "44.1kHz/16bit WAV Format Only". And Im not able to continue the process of moving the file.Im open to any suggestion on what to do next . Thank You

thank you very much! this is wonderful lecture for me!!

So kinda like looping or sampling ?
Thank you so much, this video is so helpful indeed
Thanks for the refresher!
Fantastic. Thanks so much. Great presentation style - very clear and easy to follow. Cheers!

Does anyone know how to playback the stereo tracts in order to overdubs?
Life saver!!! thankyou so much for this:P
Wow that's awesome!
Think of all the H4n's you kept from being thrown against the wall or returned... :) Great video, just what I was looking for! Thanks
Hi, if i record a track in mgr mod using the in built mice, will the track be a mono recording? if i select tracks 1 and 2 will it be stereo?
Thank you. Very clear!
Thank you! Is there a way to process the different tracks of one file on your computer e.g. in garageband, for instance if I want some reverb over one track?
The individual tracks are stored as .wav files in the same Project folder. You can put the SD card in the computer and edit the files you like
Thank you so much, that helped me a lot! :)
Great video, thanks!!! 🤗💜💚
Thank you very much for this video :)

Same question, Any solution ?!? Many thanks!
+Nave Steiner Same question, Any solution ?!? Many thanks!
+Nave Steiner It Was simple, plug the headphones and you'll hear previous Tracks and metronome.
Yes absolutely... But first you must keep the timeline back to zero ..
This is a great tutorial and series. Thank you! The one thing I would like to add is that you can only do multi track recording in Rec Format 44.1 kHz/16bit WAV. Is that right?
Oui
Thanks!
Thank very very very. Very much 👍

ASMR Academy:
1.- I haver 300 song in my computer, in MP3 mode. I read them with VLC player.
2.- I want to transfer this 300 songs to my SD card of the Zoom H4n
3.- How is the correct way to do it.
4.- Once, a long time ago, I transferred my music to the H4n, but strange this time was not possible
5.- I tried to ways:
A.- I transferred the folder to MTR. Result the memory was half used but the zoom h4n says 'no data'
B.- I transferred the 300 files (songs) to the H4n (MTR). Result: memory half used, but Zoom H4n says 'no data'. So no way to listen the music
B.-
I believe zoom h4n only works with WAV & not mp3
BEWARE!! The Zoom won't transfer the file unless the record button #1 is OFF! At the "link" step, make sure the record button #1 is off. Then it will transfer.
