Thank You, I just bought one on ebay. I just discovered the Zoom U-44 and the audio quality test you did was similar to the test on your video. The PLUG-IN menu info will definitely help me in the FUTURE. GOOD VIDEO
I just ordered H4n pro and I thought it was going to be hard but watching you I am encouraged thanks for your video. i am going to bookmark your video I may need it again when I get it. Thanks this was really helpful! Judy
Thanks for the great video on this device. I'm considering purchasing this for my TH-cam videos. My only suggestion would be to see how it works with mics plugged into the jacks on the bottom. Barring that, it was a great run down on the device, and the little things that waste time when you setting up and getting going with recording audio. All the best, Cheers Rick
Thanks so much! You're a very useful sloth, smart, slow and steady, which is exactly what I need to understand stuff sometimes. You gave a very concise and fluff-free presentation, including stuff I intend to use over the next couple of days. Thanks again!
Intro guide but good. i had this used it for audio journaling and self therapy. and gave it to a friend just bought it again for my videos on here. Watching all videos about it so i can properly record my music. Getting two condensor mics.
Dude, I don't have a mode setting? I don't have these settings: Tool, Mode nor USB??? H4n Pro model. Is this a bug or something? I just bought one online... What the... Help please! Edit - it seems that you can't use 4 channel mode or tools in the stamina mode. Problem solved! PS. Great video!
Just bought one of these today from a co worker. His roommate moved out months ago. Was going through stuff in the spare room and found it. Hasn’t spoken to him since he moved out so he sold it to me for $50.
Very useful. I wish you had an example using the two xlr inputs. I can imagine how they work, but I am a novie and it would help me to see it working. .
Lol! You got me there :D I was wondering what are you recording on at the start of the video and how can I possibly trust you with an audio review. Well played... :D
Thank you so much man... I was kinda stuck between zoom h4n pro and sony recorder, which I already have. So just for vlogging, I don't need to upgrade to Zoom h4n pro... I don't see much of a difference here in your video. Thanks again.
Thanks for the great video, very straight forward and to the point. Much appreciated. Question- do you know why the two external inputs record to just one wav file? Since you can use two and set the rec levels individually, I'm just curious why you wouldn't get two wav files for those, and then the one wav file for the onboard mics- give a total of 3 wav files to mix. If you know... thanks!
@@kbowman0016 You can use "MTR" (multitrack) mode for up to 4 tracks, one for each of the L/R mics on top (or the L and R from a stereo mic you plug in the 3.5mm jack on the back) and one or both of the combo jacks on the bottom.
I got this used on eBay for $150. Seems like a good deal but did not get anything with it and no instructions. Still a decent deal? I have to use this for voice-overs when the basement is loud due to the on-demand furnace during the winter. The alternate location for me will be the walk-in closet in the master bedroom.
On 3:50 is referring to the jack as a HP OUT and LINE IN, Maybe i didn't get him right, and he is saying that you can monitor the line input through that? All do you can monitor all the inputs (line/mic/ext), and the EXT MIC is not meant to be used with a line level single, you can add a attenuator to do that, and turning off the ext power supply output.
Would you recommend doing an interview with this recorder by holding it in my hand and moving it between me and my interviewee - would it pick up the sound well without the lapel mic and be able to have both of us record our voices in the same clip with the one recorder?
Great explanation, Can you please tell me connect to connect ZoomH1n and Boya BY M1 lav mic to my smartphone so that I can record Audio and Video in together.
I can't see Mode in menu. I know it was there but now I am not able to change the mode. What should I do :( I have no idea what i have done and how to change it.
Excellent! The only thing I would add is that when selecting an item from the menu, be sure to click on the scroll wheel when you want to dig deeper, not the menu button. That really frustrated the heck out of me.
Honestly, the "button" of the scroll wheel is the very worst part of this unit. I once deleted all my tracks using the damn thing, because I wasn't careful enough when pressing it, and "NO" turned into "YES" just as it clicked. Needless to say, I cursed at it!
Get video for getting up and running on my new H4N Pro. I'm starting a podcast. I've ordered a cable for the purpose of recording an interview from someone's phone and then to the recorder. I'll be using my studio mic (AT4050) directly into the H4N and then Google Voice for the connection to the recorder. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks!
Have you ever had a "frozen" situation when turning your Zoom on? My h4n pro is stuck at "Now Loading", though it was working fine yesterday. Any thoughts?
Did you change the SD Card? For 2 GB it takes some seconds to load, for 32 GB about 4 min!! loading/starting time. Thats why i use a 2 or 4 GB Card in my device.
When you're recording music, lets say a 12 song band set. When you press stop to stop recording the first song, does it make itself ready to record the next track separately or start again at the end of the first track like one continuous track. Guess what I mean is does it separate each song you record ? And does it allow you to finalize each individual track ? Or once you upload the music to your computer, and you can finalize the track onto a cd ?? Thanks for your help & your video !
Is this able to be used outside? Like if there is a small speaking event and I put it on a tripod near the speaker, will it capture their audio clearly or will they have to speak directly into it?
@Sloth Tech TV Thanks for useful info , Three questions please: 1. which microphone capsule is used for Zoom H4 Pro? 2. And which of the capsules are best for recording educational youtube videos? 3. which device is giving best sound quality for recording educational youtube video, Zoom H4 Pro or Zoom H8? Much appreciated if you could help.
You should be able to run a 1/8-inch stereo cord from the Headphone/Line output directly into your camera. You'll be recording both to the camera and to the recorder, so you'll have backup audio if needed. Since both the video and recorder will have the same recordings, you can use the auto-sync functionality found in most video editors now. If you want to manually sync audio and video, have your on-camera person clap or snap fingers. You'll be able to find the peak in the audio waveform where the clap/snap is. You'll manually move the audio or video track to that peak is right under the video frame where the snap/clap happens.
When i used this recorder (without a mic) the sound at first sounded good when I played the SD card file on my computer, but then when I clicked on and opened the same exact file, the suond went a bit in and out.
Awesome review...THANK YOU!!! I would like to be able to demo high end home stereo equipment and put it on TH-cam...do you recommend the oem mics or using something else with this unit....my goal being to record very high quality audio..base and highs..etc. thank you for your time and help!! Best Wishes!!
It doesn't matter what you use to record, within reason. The main limitation isn't _your_ equipment, but that of your audience. Like, you can never replicate what you hear live for someone using the earbuds that came with their Samsuck phone. The main thing is that your voice should be clear and audible, and the built-in mics will be more than sufficient for that. I presume you've already figured this out given the vintage of your comment, but in case anyone else was wondering...yeah.
You truly explained it great. I stumbled upon your video as I was looking for a refresher course for my two zooms that I use, I also just subscribe. Let me ask you. What is the highest MP3 setting you can use for audio ? In other words the highest quality MP3 setting ? Thanks Keith
"Thumbs up" on the video, but how can you call this a "full review" without showing how the XLR inputs work and how to work with them? For example, what XLR cables do you get; XLR to XLR Male, XLR to XLR Female? Should you get an XLR splitter if you want to use both channels (L&R) to record from, say, a Sennheiser shotgun mic? This would be very helpful info to have. I'm about an hour from purchasing (stupid B&H Saturday holiday BS) and I thought this vid might help with my decision on which accessories I should get with the H4N Pro setup I'm getting. I think I'm getting the right stuff, but maybe I'll end up with "Houston, we have a problem!"?
New to audio. Bought one of these and am trying to record sound effects. We had a phenomenal thunderstorm here in Hawaii a few days ago and I tried to record it. I armed the device and then hit record. The recorder started counting min/sec like it should have. maybe 5 minutes went by and I hit the "stop" button thinking I had captured the audio of the storm. Reviewing the memory card contents on my computer, I couldn't seem to find it. Any ideas?
This was a PERFECT intro video.
You really had me at the beginning of this video. I was literally googling another video to watch confuse it as I was and then you got me.
Thank you for sharing the "gotcha" situations. Helpful.
Thanks for the concise review. I haven't used one for over a year and I needed a refresher. Perfect!

I love mine and have been using it quite a bit lately.
I need to know how to set up this recorder to connect my keyboard in stereo mode using the 1/4” pug inputs located on the bottom
Thank you for this video, just picked one up to sample sounds out and about and this helped immensely in learning how to use this new tool!
I thoroughly enjoyed it.
I gave you a thumbs up.
I just got one today. Thanks for the info

Hey! Great vid, very helpful, but, according to the user manual, the 1/8 headphones / line jack is for hp and line output, not line input, cheers!
The one on the side of the unit is line out/phones, the one on the _back_ ("EXT MIC") is line in.
