Great news well done Freddy you’ve made 100% the right decision also you will get the Bonnie back in perfect running order, as l said in my last comment there is little wrong with that engine, l’ll bet one of my kidney’s it’ll be an electrical component due to you taking it for a swim and leaving it out in the rain for a week! As your bent on a Royal Enfield could make it a Continental GT? I’d love one but l have 3 bikes and no more room for another.
You are a very lucky boy to have someone like that help you out. I hope it all works out, I'm sure it will. Just promise to look after it a little better in its new life, no more riding through flooded rodes etc
It was never a question of if the Bonnie can be saved or not, it was always about how much more money, time, and effort it would take and still be sensible. If Joe wasn't doing this free of charge then a new bike would probably make more sense given Freddies not a mechanic. Very glad someone is willing to fix her up out of more-or-less good will. She did sound decent when you brought it back, I'm sure there's still lots of life left in her! Before I feared that she might end up at the breakers one day
Yeah, I'd go along with that. With labour charges in some places at £100 per hour even simple jobs like new rings and grinding in valves (for example) - stuff we used to do at home - are suddenly £1000 + jobs and become uneconomic to repair.
HOORAYYYYY Thank god you have found someone who knows what he's talking about. I have been shouting from here in Australia "renew the battery and get a multimeter to checkout that its charging correctly." Thats all it might be. Your Bonnie sat for months with probably a half dead battery, if it has a dead cell and only has 10 volts its never going to charge. Good luck with it, I feel sure Joe will sort it.
I had a feeling someone from the biking community would step up to the plate to help you Freddie. In all honesty, I am surprised it took this long. But great news anyway. Our bikes are personal to us, our babies so to speak. I'm glad the Bonnie will be ressurected and I dare say we all have faith in Joe to bring it back to glory. Nice one bro............
To be honest, its an incredible possibility to get some PR. Also, if Freddie pays for the parts and you do it as a hobby anyway (rebuilding Motorcycles), it's basically a Win/Win.
The Bonneville is probably the main reason that made me start fallow your page, the fact that it will be fixed is the best news you could give. Can't wait to see the job done. 🎉

Got to love seeing the community come together like this. Excited for the updates and will be tuning into Joe's channel to learn a thing or two no doubt.
@dirkdiggler5164 Didn't he admit that he could look into diagnosing the issue but it'll likely cost so much due to the time and labour? Given its only a low value bike i think he was being honest and upfront. If he was scammer he'd surely tag Freddie along and serve him a ridiculously expensive repair bill. The fact he admitted up front that Freddie should consider just doing an engine swap or getting rid of it probably shows more his integrity.
The first mechanic was also right: it probably isn't economical to fix it, which is what he said on the phone, not that he couldn't fix it, or that it couldn't be fixed. Joe's estimate of 40 hours times the mechanic's hourly of 90 gives 3600 Pounds, probably as much as the bike is worth. @@bms2250
@@bms2250 Possibly. I haven't examined Freddie's bike. But with 22k on it, if it didn't run dry on oil or overheat, I'm deducing there should be no reason it would need a new engine. It's an air cooled Hinckley twin, man. I could figure out and diagnose what's wrong with that Triumph inside a time from of between 1/2 hour to 2 hours, maximum. That other dude made it sound like it should take a lot of time and money to diagnose it, which is b.s., sorry but it's b.s.

The very fact you had not purchased a replacement bike freddie says alot about your fondness for your Bonnie. Thanks for posting cannot wait for the content coming from you and Joe.
Traffic is really bad everywhere. Up here in the Cairngorms it took me over a minute to find a parking space when I went to Aviemore to do my Christmas shopping. Unheard of.
When Joe said he was crying I knew exactly what he meant. I was yelling at my screen to “please Freddie, shut it off!” To have the starter running on the whole time the engine is running would fry so much of the electrical system. He’s the first person who seems to know what he’s doing. To be fair, if a professional spent 40 hours working on it you would spend more than the bike is worth.
Joe seems like a genuine good guy! We need more people like that in this world willing to help a friend or neighbor out! I am confident his effort in helping you will come back 10x fold! Best of luck and excited for the reveal once it hopefully returns good as new!!
I'm thrilled to hear that the Bonneville will have a "second life" and continue to be the iconic bike of your channel. I’m sure the bonnie is in good hands with Joe! Well done Freddie 👏🏼
Your persistence alone means that you deserve your bike back in full working order Freddie. Really good of Joe to reach out and thanks for the heads up, re his channel. It sounds fascinating.
Such great news about the bonniville, I found you because last month I took delivery of My first t100, was so sad about your bike, trust all go's well with the bonneville, and looking forward to more adventures, will be watching Joe repairing your bike, blessings.
Freddie, two things firstly, that jacket is a bold statement! Secondly and more importantly, so glad that someone of the same mindset as myself is going to work on the Triumph 😊 that bike is intrinsically part of the channel and we all love it!
That's great news. The Triumph deserves another chance at munching up miles & Joe and his Dad seem to be the guys that will make it happen. He touched on a very salient point with regards to the garage, which so people forget. Looking forward to watching the journey of it being fixed on both channels. 👍
You made a good choice. When I hear the bike run, the hard parts sound good and no smoke to be seen. I think your problems will all be electrical. I'm keen on learning what Joe finds. I was a mechanic for 30 years in different fields, mostly auto.
I love your brutal honesty concerning your lack of effort when it comes to looking after your Bonnie and keeping a detailed service record. You make me laugh out loud every time. I wish there was a Camara on Monica to get her reaction to some of the things you say 😅😅😅😅😅😅
It could be an unlucky instance of the holes in the cheese lining up and a mechanical failure resulting from a QC issue or something being missed during regular maintenance.
Hey Freddie, I think Joe might be the solution to your Bonneville issues. His positive attitude and confidence is impressive, and I totally agree with his comment, “ we can save anything”. In my opinion, the thought of writing off your bike is ludicrous, and I think you will be back on the road sooner than you imagine. Cheers , Dan. ✌️🏍🇨🇦
Morning Freddie.Yes of course anything can be repaired/restored. After all it’s just a 4 stroke internal combustion engine in a frame with wheels and associated brakes and electrics. Just look at some of the stunning restorations we can see of very very old bikes and cars etc. As kids we used to Look in people’s back yards to see if there was an unwanted bike we could ask to take away and try and get running again. Those bikes included a BSA B31, BSA Bantam 125, Norton ES2 with sidecar, AJS350 and a Matchless G12. There were others. As 12/13 year olds we used to raid my dad’s tools and fiddle around trying to get them to run. We learnt by doing and of course made many mistakes! We used to ride them around the LBC works on open ground and pretend we were scrambling! No doubt your Bonnie can be restored, no doubt! The only question would be how long and at what cost? Anyway she is in good hands! At last 😊. PS I went to buy some 10/50 Semi Synthetic engine oil yesterday! Nearly had a Heart Attack at the cost!!!!! 😳😳😳
Aye the price of decent name-brand oil has gone mental. Was going to try some no name fully synthetic figuring it should be fine in the tracer when Black Friday came about and all of a sudden the price of Motul was reasonable once again.
This channel is much more than the Bonneville, it goes without saying, it is a cultural experience and a rather friendly and inviting personal voyage. But I must admit that the old Bonny became a homely stretch of it. I must confess a good deal of relief by the appearance of providential Joe in the scene. I'll peep into his channel. All the best. Cheers.
Pleased to hear this… such a cool bike and story to go with it. It would be a massive shame if it met its demise and all of it was lost. Hopefully we see it back soon!
It does seem crazy to say the bike is a write off when it's sitting there so classy and stylish looking. Your excitement at the idea of getting your bike back, working, says the bike ISNT a write off! Joe, what a nice guy, that introduction might just have saved your beautiful bike. Can't wait to see the progress of the repair, or hear about it at least. Go Joe!!!

Great uplifting video - thanks Freddie and Joe. I loved it when Freddie said "I'll just have to make do with press demo bikes in the meantime..." Ah, the joys of being a TH-cam superstar :) It reminded me of time as a "little helper" with certain H-D and Buell demo fleets, when I had the privilege of helping to run in all the latest models. Along that road, I met a few amazingly talented mechanics (if they don't mind being called that) and many other dedicated professionals, who understood that helping customers was actually good for their brands.
This is fun, Freddie. Maybe not fun for you. But fun for the viewers to guess the problem!! 😀 They say you flooded it? Did you drive it into a river? If your starter is stuck on, you've got a short in the starter, wiring connections, or starter switch. Those wiring connections in the headlight are spretty water sealed, though...with tons of electric grease from the factory. The switches, not so much.
Have subscribed to Joes channel as will be interesting watching the progress of the Bonneville. Will also be interesting to watch some of his earlier videos
Haha Freddie, I'm just laughing here in my kitchen with my beautiful wife. We've got the exact same fridge, kettle and toaster here in Snowdonia. Same models and colours. We've also got a Chesterfield sofa (brown) in our lounge. I've also got a Triumph with a flat battery that needs sorting in the garage (2008 Rocket Touring) Little coincidences to put a smile on one's face. Great show...
Great to see bike spirit coming together to help, Joe seems to be the true enthusiast, I think he is going to be getting new subscribers from people here watching the progress. I thought it interesting he though the problem was electrical only, let’s hope it is.
Personally I think the very first thing Joe should do is peel the rest of the Riumph badge off. Hope the Bonnie is back for the DGR, we'd love to see you in London.
Freddie, I have no doubt whatsoever that it cannot be fixed by this guy. You are very lucky to find someone. Cars and bikes are a make up of functioning parts. When the malfunction, diagnosing is required. The “professionals” u have sent it to charge too much and their time is too precious to get a fix. That bike is definately fixable but the cost is the cost. You clearly love it so much it is worth it. You wont be sorry. Is there any way we could crowd fund joe some money or a raffle of something. In the meantime Fred get another bike too. Please don’t take bike swimming again. If you have the time see if you can spend some time with him to learn basic electrics. I am not good electrically but I have learn to use a voltmeter and have used it to diagnose my house and cars and bikes. Just basic stuff but quite satisfying. Keep on doing your own servicing but maybe a little research so no more cross threading.
Hell ya Freddie, this guy sounds like the kinda guy that you need to fix the Bonnie. Someone that’s gonna do it because it’s a challenge. I’m gonna go out on ledge now and predict the old Bonnie will be back before New Year’s Day. And when you get it back Freddie, you got to promise to not take it swimming anymore! That could be your New Years resolution
Keeping that bike may be a stroke of production genius. In our modern “throw away” culture, ANYONE could just replace it. That’s where you would lose me. Good show!🏍😎
If a man says he can then he will. Sad to see how easy is to write off any machine in UK. In Portugal labour is not that cheap but any workshop would try to save that bike. Hands up to Joe, such a great mate! Good luck!
This has warmed my heart, unless you ride a Bonnie you have no idea his much it becomes part of you, it’s like an old romantic story to see what your bike has been through (including floods which started the issues 😅) it very much seems like you have the best hands for the job. Good luck Joe . ✊🏻
I'm an American. I hate the "throw away" culture that is so prevalent in the US. I heard of someone at the rubbish (garbage) dump seeing someone about to throw a computer away. They asked if they could have it, took it home and it had nothing wrong with it at all. It was just old. So I'm thrilled about the idea that you have a good hope of getting your Triumph running properly again.
Typically folks who live on islands are more likely to repair things. Everything coming by boat or plane. Doesn't matter if they're from Japan, Ireland or Hawaii.
Americans used to repair everything. I remember when I was a child (in the 60's), there was many types of places of places to get things repaired. Now most of those places are gone. I understand what you say about island communities. But whatever the reason, I like to see things get repaired, re-purposed, or donated rather than just scrapped. @@adamlanglois563
Good start looking at the trailer as an retired mechanic myself and one of my pet hates rear trailer lights left light bulb in wrong way around the other stop light not working, but should be fine Freddie, good look, by the way that’s not a write off it can be fixed, if you going to keep bikes and you have some time on your hands, enrol on motorcycle maintenance course.
I’m not surprised by Joe’s optimism ; it usually comes down to not-worth-the-cost-of-fixing rather than “can’t be done, mate” I have a buddy like Joe so I’m sure he’s going to succeed.
Do you know, I’ve always thought this bike could be fixed, but as Joe says it’s the hours which converts into labour costs for many folk, who can’t repair their own machines….. all my motorbikes in the past, I’ve laid my own tools on and many of them right down to the crankshaft and back together again….. it never was in issue about whether the vehicle was a financial right off or not. We just got on and repaired them…. Of course there is the technical side of modern electrical systems one has to get their head around these days so you’ll be riding again soon. I’m so glad it’s being repaired
Hoping for the best. I purchased my first triumph, America Carb. and Love it. Has some quirks I am working on but love it. cant wait to see the process.
No doubt in my mind that Joe can fix this. He will get that bike done!!! I know from experience that he is an awesome mechanic.

I've just subbed to Joe's channel also - so I can watch the progress from both sides. Fingers crossed for a successful outcome. 🙂
Good luck with the bike Freddie . All the best . I am looking forwards to watching Joe repair the bike . Great stream 👍👍👍👍
Awesome news Freddie, fingers crossed the bonnie will be fixed and back on the road again!👍
Great to see bike spirit coming together to help, Joe seems to be the true enthusiast, I think he is going to be getting new subscribers from people here watching the progress. I thought it interesting he though the problem was electrical only, let’s hope it is.
Genuinely pleased for you Freddie, subscribed to Joes channel. The problem with having repaired by a dealer is labour costs make so expensive.
Personally I think the very first thing Joe should do is peel the rest of the Riumph badge off.
Hope the Bonnie is back for the DGR, we'd love to see you in London.
Thanks Alex! I’ll be doing the London DHE, I’m sure🙂
What’s the DHE?
@@5tevieb954I think it's like the DGR but with less coordinated fingers 😉
Wow! Over 5 thousand views in 2 hours. Amazing well done Freddie and Monika.
That could be your New Years resolution
i love all things motorcycling, riding, fixing them, fart arsing around..looking forward to watching
Keeping that bike may be a stroke of production genius. In our modern “throw away” culture, ANYONE could just replace it. That’s where you would lose me. Good show!🏍😎
Great news Freddie ! So pleased you have sought a second opinion ! Love the Chesterfield ! 😁
I think we need more guys like Joe! But your Joe, not the one we have over here in the US.😅
Good start looking at the trailer as an retired mechanic myself and one of my pet hates rear trailer lights left light bulb in wrong way around the other stop light not working, but should be fine Freddie, good look, by the way that’s not a write off it can be fixed, if you going to keep bikes and you have some time on your hands, enrol on motorcycle maintenance course.
You are just so likeable and it's very soothing to watch your content
I’m not surprised by Joe’s optimism ; it usually comes down to not-worth-the-cost-of-fixing rather than “can’t be done, mate”
I have a buddy like Joe so I’m sure he’s going to succeed.
Amazing news Freddie, going to subscribe to Joe's channel and looking forward to learn more about the Bonneville rebirth!
It would be interesting if this led to collaborations with Joe from time to time. Your knowledge bases and interests appear to complement each other.
Just gave Joe a follow, fingers crossed he can sort the Triumph out
Glad to see the Bonny is going to be sorted 👍🏴
Do you know, I’ve always thought this bike could be fixed, but as Joe says it’s the hours which converts into labour costs for many folk, who can’t repair their own machines….. all my motorbikes in the past, I’ve laid my own tools on and many of them right down to the crankshaft and back together again….. it never was in issue about whether the vehicle was a financial right off or not. We just got on and repaired them…. Of course there is the technical side of modern electrical systems one has to get their head around these days so you’ll be riding again soon. I’m so glad it’s being repaired
Glad to hear the Bonnie is getting a chance to live.
Hoping for the best. I purchased my first triumph, America Carb. and Love it. Has some quirks I am working on but love it.
cant wait to see the process.
With the right motivation anything man made can be fixed.
What about things woman-made?
women make people who are beyond salvation@@BibTheBoulderTheOriginalOne
I was thinking in the "Neil Armstrong" context.
@@BibTheBoulderTheOriginalOneis dinner ready then ?
Awesome news! I am sure the Bonnie will live again.
Good luck with the repair, you must love that bike. I would have got rid of it many moons ago.
Thanks Andrew. I do love it (very probably a bit too much)
Me too if I had the money, but I have no money, lol.
I'm sure Joe will resolve the bonnies issues. Then it'll be over to you to look after her, properly. !! Ride safe, merry Christmas Freddie.
Hope it gets sorted.
Bless you Joe! Cant wait for the boneville to hit the road with confidence.
Joe seems a top guy, looking forward to his channel
In good hands now....Amen........❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
I really like your channel. Keep up the good work!
