Started skating at 23 and I just turned 25! I see the other girls at the rink and it makes me sad to see people who start when I do but make more progress. But recently I’ve changed my mindset- eating really healthy and going earlier, staying longer! And I’ve made WAY more progress! Got my loop and lutz jump in the same month! Your videos are so inspiring Katie! I often think of that one video where you edited all of your falls when I’m skating, and I know that it’s possible to do anything I set my mind to! And it’s okay to fall, it’s okay to fail, because it IS the battle! If it was easy, what’s the point?

Pancake breakfast yeah this is a great idea, especially when I don't feel like going or start feeling like quitting

Everytime a student falls and cries bc she is sad and angry, I asked her if she know why (we) skaters are special. They look at me clueless, so I tell them "because when we fall, we get up and try again". They love it. And I love teaching them not only how to skate, but how to overcome different situations, to work hard for what they want. Being a coach is one of the best things that ever happend to me. My students are the reason why I do what I do.

Skating is full of ups and downs (literally!!)
The best skaters are hard on themselves. We're perfectionists. We expect only the best out of ourselves.
Sometimes we're too hard on ourselves, and need to understand the process. We won't get good by never giving it our all, or by not falling.
Great video, btw! I'm sure you're going to be a great coach. Just remember that you're not just a coach. You're also a mentor. As coaches we teach lessons that can apply to everyday life. Lessons that go with our pupils for the rest of their lives. That's something pretty special!

That was fantastic to watch ..I'm 47..and completed gold level in' learn to skate 'before Christmas..I cant believe I did that from scratch..in 9 months ..that made me sooo happy..I have been in a few ice shows ..and that makes me so happy to be part of my dream come true..I'm happiest on the ice ..even though I'm a freezer..😅 but skating gives me pure happiness and freedom and amazing energy..I'd like to become a coach too..I love children and helping people..so here I go...⛸⛸💫👍🏽

Thank you for this. When I watch you, I feel really inspired; to skate like you, to jump like you. And you're right. Skating is hard, but it teaches you to be better. You taught me how to be better. You have helped me get through so much in my own skating journey, and we share the same goals. You truly have helped me more than you will ever know, and I hope to see you at the Olympics one day. Thank you and good luck.☺️⛸️

Any other time I would thank u for this, but rn this just made me cry. I haven’t been able to skate for a month due to an injury and I still hv 2 months of no skating left. Yesterday I went to my team’s competition and watched them skate. They didn’t even remember who I was😢 I just miss skating sooooooooooo much...

I needed this so bad. I do artistic roller skating, so falling for me is terrifying because we dont slide when we fall we slam right on the ground and it really badly hurts. I always beat mysekf up about it that all my skating friends can land their waltz jumps perfectly and gracefully and i always wobble and sometimes fall. Anyone reading this remember that everyone starts somewhere. You will end up getting there in the end if u persevere on.

uh sorry to ruin the amazing motivation mood but.. I'm new to skating and some times people will just... well um.. ._. do a jump in my face ._. I know there are corners for jumps but I don't know where the corners are ._. or what circle im suppose to practice my crossovers on ._. and there are no videos on where those jumping corners are.. so can you please~ make a video on it or just answer my question here? please and thank you! ( I don't want to get in anyones way..!)

generally figure skater jump along the arches at the end of the rink or straight down the middle. there is also something called the lutz corner, since more than often skaters are righties I'd stay clear of the right circles in the corners (right meaning if u were to stand in the middle of the rink out of the two circles you see at the end, stay clear from the right one). so its safer to practice something like crossovers on the left circle (tho beware of lefty skaters if there are any) and the middle circle.
Tho in most rinks they're session should have some level restrictions because its dangerous to put advanced skaters with beginner skaters. so maybe check if ur rink offers lower level sessions as well. also idk about others but personally the rink ive been at all have the policies that advanced skaters have the responsibility to avoid beginner skaters since they would know better how to do that.
MY TIPS would be to just stay aware of who is around you. I no you must be focused on getting ur foot to crossover and all without falling, but just look up every once and awhile. speaking of which i recommend going a bit early or stay late to watch a bit of the session before of after you to get more of a feel of the flow of skating practice. u'll notice all the jumps patterns i mentioned before. if not just do it during ur session even if its just watching one person do a jump or a spin or watch someone do their program so you know how it goes and know when to get out of their way. and lastly if a skater is coming at u i wouldn't far way dodge nor stay in place, just try to move enough so the skater can't u or u can't hit someone else.
i hope this was helpful! i remember the days where i found the ebb and flow of skating practice intimidating and i wished someone told me this back then. don't ever feel like u don't belong bc every deserve to be on the ice to improve their skating. just be safe!
