I think i have an idea for a new game. See, maybe all the land alterra owns would have to be quarantined, so they could cure all the kharaa, and finally stop it. However, they set up their own laser towers to shoot down other incoming ships, just like he precursors did. But everyone in the quarantine dies off. The story is just like the first subnautica, but instead of the ocean, you could go planet to planet like in no mans sky. Idk, food for thought. Subnautica is my favorite game of all time, bit it would be cool if we could see more than just planet 4546b, and see the kharaa bacteria’s danger throughout space.
I think Subnautica would not have been as good as it was with weapons. Without weapons to murder everything, you really have to think about what you're going to do.
Yeah, you have to strategize how you're going to get past an obstacle, and that's what gives the game its charm, you really have to think like a survivor. Being able to blow everything away with an assault rifle would ruin it
The most Unsettling fact about Subnautica is that you're in a Alien Planet... people were once alive, while Ryley was knocked out. When Ryley wakes up, nobody is alive. Everyone is dead, and that makes Ryley feel lonely throughout the entire adventure of Subnautica. It's kind of sad for the fact that, if Ryley never got knocked out by *that flying circuit board at the intro of the game*, Ryley could've met the survivors, possibly save them from certain disaster earlier on.

2:08 They are not being billed. At the end of the game, it is saying that is your current credit balance. Because that is how much you are worth after collecting all of those materials and tools.
If Alterra technically owns planet 4546B does that mean it will be eventually terraformed for its resources ultimately destroying the environment and leaving the planet for dead?
I’m not sure why they would do that when there are about half a dozen planets right next to it, all of which seem to be tectonically active and present key mining opportunities in comparison to some water world with life on it
Oh drat, I knew all of these XD My unsettling fact is that Yu would have almost certainly seen Berkeley die. They were in the lifepod together, but she's the only one who makes it to the island to meet with Keen. She says, "We can't be the only two who made it." If she knows that, she knows Berkeley is dead, and given that they were JUST together in one of the most dangerous biomes, she most likely witnessed his death. No wonder she's so desperate to get back to the Aurora! She probably feels responsible for his death. If they can find anyone else, maybe, maybe it'll be worth it.
if they were really 500m down, he could have very well just died from nitrogen narcosis or the bends or drowning :( he was just an engineer, we don’t know if he had the skill set to be able to navigate in the dark at 500m, and he could have gotten confused and made a fatal error, and since yu messed with their oxygen in the first place and they had so little oxygen left, she might not have had the oxygen to go back and set him right.
What about this? Echolocation: The deep roar emitted by the reaper at regular intervals is effectively sonar - if you can hear it, the reaper can see you.
@KVAcedo27 I mean you can have the best eyesight ever and it's not gonna mean too much a few hundred yards of ocean down. It's dark as dicks down there, you need other methods of navigation besides sight. Solid vision doesn't count for shit in suboptimal light.
An unsettling fact is that the last bacon is the last of his species and we all should be tremendously sad because of that, he makes top tier content and even respond to every single one of the comments on his videos, man, great work but if it's too much work you don't have to reply to everyone, your time and enjoyment of things is important, great work as always.
The good thing is he sounds around 20 so we have at max at least 20 to 30 years of more content remember At MAX at minimum hopefully atleast 5 to 10 more years of content

BELOW ZERO SPOILER WARNING BELOW The more I learn about the dark lore of the Subnautica series, it makes me understand more and more of why Marguerite didn’t trust Alterra one bit, how gratifying the Khaara situation is in regards to AL-AN, and why Robin decided to just go with AL-AN instead of going back to Earth.
It's a shame, too, because the game itself is visually stunning, but I quite literally cannot play it, as I keep getting flashbacks to the many times I've drowned. Thalassaphobia is a cruel, cruel thing.
@Dáda for me that is Kim did true, the more I play the more I’ve been able to explore out, I have been able to travel to all locates without leviathans/big threats just to practice actually leaving the safe shallows

I have built a number of large, comfortably-outfitted bases in various locations around the map and can dwell anywhere from the gentle beauty of the Safe Shallows to the intense inferno of the Active Lava Zone. What am I missing out on? Reality TV? Pfft.
Someone actually wrote some really good dialogue for what could have happened after the game. I'll have to find it and reread it to check, but from memory, it's an Alterra employee (I think one of the lawyers) arguing to himself the points for and against whether Ryley should have to pay the debt
Being a game that is set in a world where deep water is the main space, it must has been hard to find only 5 unsettling facts. I do like the idea of the precursors aidding humanity (and other extra planetary civilizations) though. Maybe those were the gods past generations worshiped. Or they could be the reason why there is life in countles planets. Or why there is not life left on others... In or outside the game, this is a concept that I enjoy thinking about.

Well... This was very interesting to listen too, especially with how the Sea Dragon is going extinct. I had already figured that what with the last one to have laid eggs having lost them to the Precursors, but I didn't realize that the Aurora's crash had also played a part in trapping them underground. Truly upsetting since of all the leviathans, I adore the Sea Dragon the most, (as well as absolutely fear it.)

My favorite running gag is that I'll say Subnautica is a perfect game with no bugs and immediately list some of the greatest bugs that have happened. 1. A wreck didn't spawn in that yet so I scanned the items and drowned inside when it spawned (worth it). Air pump glitch where you pick it up while on the surface of the water on top of it and it sends you flying. 3. The greatest of all. 2 reapers spawn on my friend near the Aurora. He goes inside and they levitate up the lamp following him. He makes it to the engine room and saves... They somehow clipped through every way/doorway and he's now trapped in the engine room with them. I love this game.

Still wanna know what the preconditions of stimulating terror in human are of it it's just a star trek reference. Edit: Diamondhart on r/subnautica gave it a go: 1.) Dim illumination - Specifically not total darkness. It is lit, but just enough to provide the suggestion of vague outlines, no details. 2.) Three primary colours - One can be any light colour, the other any dark colour, but the third must be some specific shade of Red, usually blood-red. 3.) Disembodied/vague sounds - Basically any sound without a readily determined source, especially those that can be likened to "unsettling" sounds (ie Growls, roars, scuttling, wispering voices). 4.) Organic Shapes - Strands, pods, bulges, or other such "Organic" forms in objects not considered "Organic", such as stone. Includes anything that evokes a "Is this flesh?" response. 5.) Unexpected tactile sensation - Misplaced warmth/cold, Something appearing rigid actually being soft/slimy, and the reverse. 6.) The sea dragons can probably access via the mountain corridor, as there is an alternate enterance to the lava zone from there, and it leads directly to reapers Edit: although there was a hole to the lava corridor in the beta, there isn’t any evidance there was ever a hole there lore wise
@@Teddy_B3ar I swear as far as i remember they were this sorta dark-bluish and then i saw a white and red reaper, i just thought it was some sorta super strong reaper you just had to avoid, And then i went through the videos that i remember seeing the blue reapers and then they were still white and red. it was just confusing.

tbh the sea dragon is just an embodiment of "humans wont put effort into conserving anything that isnt cute or cool" which is an irl issue with helping endangered animals. it gets genuinely exhausting how many people talk about wanting rewards for killing leviathans like thats not a member of a species thats low in numbers by design and like its death wont have a major impact on the ecosystem. look, i know its just a game, but games are Telling of peoples irl attitude towards things more times than not, and going out of your way to kill something when you can just move and not be bothered by it? tbh it makes me wish that unknown worlds never added the drill arm bc without it just about the only effective way you have to kill things is the survival knife and having to slowly slash away at a reaper with nothing protecting you from it would probably help deter the average player from deciding that a species that scares and inconveniences them has to go regardless of the impact on the ecosystem this is why wolves got killed off in places, and im pretty sure we all know how that went (and if not, im sure googling the wolves of yellowstone will help)
The devs adding a tool to be used for drilling is just that, it's a tool, they shouldn't remove something from the game that has no real intention intention killing, people are the issue, you can use anything to kill, heck some people use the Seamoth as a ram, so should the devs remove it too ? Whatever the devs do people will always find a way to use things like weapons, weapons themselves aren't dangerous or can kill, it's the one who uses it with the intention to do so.
Accurate, since they're just filter feeders defending their territory. To add to it, since the void is a dead zone, more likely than not it will only be microscopic organisms slowly eating away at your corpse.

I have played subnautica the day it came out in very early 2016 and I remember all of this and it's so scary looking back on it. The most scariest thought back then for me was realising how dead the planet actually is, it got scary when realizing the PDA says the dead zone supports the biggest biome on the planet and its dead besides leviathan and microscopic animals. Seeing how the ghost leviathans eat large animals and not microbes, when they die it's going to be even deader scared me
The Ecological Dead Zone is a reference to the same thing in Earth’s oceans, deepwater biomes where the only two things supported are plankton, filter feeder leviathans like whales, and the theoretical predators of whale-niche organisms (like sharks or bigger unseen mystery creatures). Point Nemo is in one of these locations. (It’s theorized that the Abyssal Plain below is very rich in nutrients from the marine snow, but this only supports a small biosphere.)

It saddens me knowing that Sea Dragons are going extinct. I already knew they were, but what I didn’t know was that the crash blocked the caves. I like to imagine that somewhere on 4546B there’s large group of Sea Dragon Leviathans who are happy and eating as many Reapers as they want
I do want to mention that there’s still a sea dragon egg in the primary containment facility that might still be living. The sea dragons almost likely reproduce asexually as the sea emperor does and they’re most likely close relatives. There’s still some hope for those beautiful fiery beasts.
plus we've seen species evolve really fast onn this planet, maybe, it can adapt to its new environement, not talking about the fact that if there is no more khaara, a large number of creatures would most likely flow into this place or just lure thepm into the lost river. I am pretty sure they'll be better than ever
Honestly, I couldn't imagine Subnautica with guns. Even though the circumstances that brought them to that decision were horrible, it was still probably the best decision. Game would be a lot less scary if I could just roll up on a reaper with an M249 SAW.

The fact that Kharaa is still around, even spreading is sure unsettling But something more is unsettling that your spaceship/escapeship fell apart just before warping / going through warp portal
It didn't break That panel breaking off was a reference to the intro cutscene, where a similar panel breaks off from the escape pod wall and knocks Riley out

Hey TLB!! Loved your video!!! It was very entertaining and I also learned a few new things about the lore which is always great. In case you ever make a video about Skyrim, here are a few spewky things about the game: In Solitude, in the king's (or rather queen's, now) court there is a woman who was a teacher to the (now dead) king, and also a teacher to the (now dead) king's father, yet she looks really really young. She also never sleeps 🙂 that and a few other disturbing facts about her, like the fact that she doesn't show up when using the "detect living being" spell (vampires are undead), made the community suspect she's a vampire. In Ivarstead there's is an NPC who was left out of society and went insane after the death of her sister. Turns out he's a werewolf. Her sister died in the river while foraging. Well there's a quest to bring this man some rest of mind, to recover his sister's pendant. You find the pendant right next to a skeleton at the bottom of the nearby river, with no signs or any kind of weapon, like an arrow or a knife, and she died in a really weird way and place, right next to the village, so bandits are out of question. People theorize that this werewolf NPC killed his sister and ate her in a burst of madness due to the full moon, and when the full moon cleared and he realized what he had done, he went insane. This isn't so much spooky as it is sad. A man died during a volcano eruption (the eruption of mount Vvardenfell). If you loot his corpse, he only has a written note dedicated to her wife and get a side quest to deliver the message. It's really sad and beautiful to read it and give that woman peace. Just research the whole origin of the falmer. That's a horror story in itself, and also extremely interesting. There is a weird dude in Morthal which people in the city think he's dealing with the dark arts. This guy sneaks out of his home every night into the forest, goes to a weird ruin and performs some kind of ritual. He can also cure you of the vampire disease by offering a human soul in exchange. And as if that wasn't enough there is a spooky ghost in that forest which you can follow around until you reach his corpse. People still don't know what's the deal with that ghost but we suspect this warlock dude has something to do. I know a few more things like these, both about Skyrim and other games, so if you are looking to do some research be sure to hit me up and I'll probably have something for you.
I found your channel when you had like 27k followers thanks to Reddit, and I absolutely love your content and have watched a few videos a couple times. Every upload is quality content.
Well the Alien faction is litterally called "The Kharaa" and are fought by TSF soliders (who Marguerit was a part of until she became a merc) whose entire equipment is made by Alterra.
From a gameplay point of view, not having weapons more powerful than the knife and the stasis rifle is a good choice. If you think about it more realistically it shows why people *should* have access to weapons. You'd be dead soooo many times over without actual defensive weaponry in the survivor's situation here. And certainly part of the crew suffered that fate as well, being hunted and consumed by sea critters. Ultimately you either submit to the advantages of technology or the natural rule of the strong.
Unsettling fact: Sparse Reef is a desert biome, almost without life (it haves life, but not too much), if you were alone playing, imagine in Sparse Reef. When I need to go there, I call my bro to play in my place 'cause is a so scary and unsettling place-
The PDA also says “Biodiversity in this region is unusually low, cause unknown” when you first enter it, which hints that the Sparse Reef may have been a tropical haven in the past, before some sort of event reduced it to a wasteland, much like how the Dunes was likely more lively before the meteor hit, and the Aurora destroyed whatever the Crash Zone used to be.
I dont know how much more unsettling facts you could give about the Amnesia games because all the games are unsettling all of the time... Awesome video!
Another thing is how it puts fear into people. Sure, there are plenty of things that instill fear. But unlike many horror games, they don't make the enemies spawn specifically at one place. After you've seen what can creep up on you at any second, you'll always second guess even going near that location. Whether it be the aurora, the crater's edge, or anywhere else you'll know they're there. You just don't know when they're strike. And even if you know they can't follow you everywhere, you'll always have that feeling you'll look over and see a giant leviathan swimming at you, claws out mouth wide open ready to consume you entirely and leave no remains left.
Scariest thing about this game for me is when I'm somewhere that feels like a leviathan should be there, but it's not and I can't help but feel even more scared with the ominous atmosphere without some big fish trying to kill me, it really messes with me the open areas without leviathan screams which I think is arguably scarier then the leviathans themselves.
This entire game is unsettling! I spent a full week in the safe shallows, before venturing out. I managed to get the the cyclops built, saw a sea dragon, & that was it. I have never finished the game. My nerves can't handle it lol.
1:40 We know that there's still quite some life left in the open oceans - microscopic, Ghosts and Void Chelicerates and who know what else. We also don't know if the two regions are indeed the two last remaining highly populated areas - we simply lack information about the rest of the planet. The Aurora also doesn't block the entrance at all - the eastern exit is by far the easiest to use and is easily large enough for the Sea Dragons.
Not quite true - the first game clearly tells us the rest of the planet is dead outside the crater :) And the dragon would still need to get out through the lava zone corridors which are way too tight!
@@TheLastBacon The first game also tells us that microcosmic and Leviathan class life is supported outside the crater and yes I am aware that this is mutually exclusive. This means that the first game provides us with conflicting information which in turn means that we don't know the truth; however given that Zector Zero exists (which is not mentioned in game 1) and the Ghost Leviathans and Void Chelicerates exist in the open ocean it is already proven that life does indeed exist outside the crater. The Sea Dragons do not have to use the Lava Zone Corridor - there's a huge hole in eastern section of the inactive Lava Zone that leads directly to the Lost River and to the Mountain biome. The tunnel is not blocked or in any way shape or form damaged. If you use the entrance to the Lost River that lies at the border between the Mointain and Bulb Bush biomes you'll discover this massive tunnel (which is littered with Reaper skeletons btw that where hunted down by the dragons). This tunnel is easily large enough for a Sea Dragon. The only question is what the Ghost Leviathan that is patrolling in the Lost River directly above the hole does when a Sea Dragon decides to go hunting.
@@HH-hd7nd It's more like there isn't much life other than those 2 kinds, while the game mentions that outside the crater the rest of the planet is mostly just deep ocean, it really isn't saying that that's all, plus how would the PDA even pinpoint accurately calculate the whole planet of every bit of life anyway, sure it can scan a good amount of the planet surface and say that since 99% of the world is just deep ocean than yea I would pretty much say it's dead outside too. 1% is things like thr crater and artic sector and other small habital islands but those are so little compared to the entire planet, the PDA probably didn't even account for the deepest part of the oceans on the planet having massive Leviathans, well it kinda did when it mentioned only Leviathan class species exist with micro organisms.
@@kevinfortin3398 You would be surprised how many creatures live in the deep oceans of Earth. It's not a barreb lifeless place at all - and that should even be more true to an ocean planet.
The good news about the karaa is that in general, in order to survive as a species, viruses and deadly diseases tend to mutate in a way that is less deadly. If the bacteria kills too many organisms, it does as a species as well due to a lack of food. So it’s possible that it could mutate into something that, while very unpleasant, is less likely to kill its host. Or I guess it COULD get much worse :/
I think taking guns out of Subnautica was a good idea, not for the reason the devs stated but for a diferent reason. Once you get further into the game it becomes easier, and that is without the presence of actual guns in the game besides the missile upgrades for the seamoth and the prawn suit (Which by itself makes most of the creatures not threatning anymore), imagine how much of a joke the late/end game would be with weaponry?

I find it crazy how the sea dragons are such a danger, yet if you hug the walls and ignore it to an extent. It will not chase you down. Reaper also used to be more aggressive too. But is what it is.

There are no leviathans left in my first game
The Sea Dragon Leviathans can leave the lava zone whenever they please, none of the leviathans seem to care about clipping through walls anyway

it also makes those able t master the prawn suit feel like a badass which is what the prawn has a tendency to do in universe..
You never conquer your enviroment through violence, you learn to swim with the current, not against it.

The most Unsettling fact about Subnautica is that you're in a Alien Planet... people were once alive, while Ryley was knocked out. When Ryley wakes up, nobody is alive. Everyone is dead, and that makes Ryley feel lonely throughout the entire adventure of Subnautica.
It's kind of sad for the fact that, if Ryley never got knocked out by *that flying circuit board at the intro of the game*, Ryley could've met the survivors, possibly save them from certain disaster earlier on.

My unsettling fact is that Yu would have almost certainly seen Berkeley die. They were in the lifepod together, but she's the only one who makes it to the island to meet with Keen. She says, "We can't be the only two who made it." If she knows that, she knows Berkeley is dead, and given that they were JUST together in one of the most dangerous biomes, she most likely witnessed his death.
No wonder she's so desperate to get back to the Aurora! She probably feels responsible for his death. If they can find anyone else, maybe, maybe it'll be worth it.

if they were really 500m down, he could have very well just died from nitrogen narcosis or the bends or drowning :( he was just an engineer, we don’t know if he had the skill set to be able to navigate in the dark at 500m, and he could have gotten confused and made a fatal error, and since yu messed with their oxygen in the first place and they had so little oxygen left, she might not have had the oxygen to go back and set him right.

Someone actually wrote some really good dialogue for what could have happened after the game. I'll have to find it and reread it to check, but from memory, it's an Alterra employee (I think one of the lawyers) arguing to himself the points for and against whether Ryley should have to pay the debt
I don't think that is going to help Ryley at all, since he scans everything he sees, giving Alterra all the knowledge about the planet

Being a game that is set in a world where deep water is the main space, it must has been hard to find only 5 unsettling facts.
I do like the idea of the precursors aidding humanity (and other extra planetary civilizations) though. Maybe those were the gods past generations worshiped. Or they could be the reason why there is life in countles planets. Or why there is not life left on others... In or outside the game, this is a concept that I enjoy thinking about.

Well... This was very interesting to listen too, especially with how the Sea Dragon is going extinct. I had already figured that what with the last one to have laid eggs having lost them to the Precursors, but I didn't realize that the Aurora's crash had also played a part in trapping them underground. Truly upsetting since of all the leviathans, I adore the Sea Dragon the most, (as well as absolutely fear it.)
It is a bit of a shame since it's such a cool species :)
also (assuming that there aren't many other major predators to reapers) wouldn't that cause the reaper populations to rise due to loosing probably its only major predator?

My favorite running gag is that I'll say Subnautica is a perfect game with no bugs and immediately list some of the greatest bugs that have happened. 1. A wreck didn't spawn in that yet so I scanned the items and drowned inside when it spawned (worth it).
Air pump glitch where you pick it up while on the surface of the water on top of it and it sends you flying.
3. The greatest of all. 2 reapers spawn on my friend near the Aurora. He goes inside and they levitate up the lamp following him. He makes it to the engine room and saves... They somehow clipped through every way/doorway and he's now trapped in the engine room with them.
I love this game.

The sea dragons can probably access via the mountain corridor, as there is an alternate enterance to the lava zone from there, and it leads directly to reapers
Edit: although there was a hole to the lava corridor in the beta, there isn’t any evidance there was ever a hole there lore wise

tbh the sea dragon is just an embodiment of "humans wont put effort into conserving anything that isnt cute or cool" which is an irl issue with helping endangered animals. it gets genuinely exhausting how many people talk about wanting rewards for killing leviathans like thats not a member of a species thats low in numbers by design and like its death wont have a major impact on the ecosystem.
look, i know its just a game, but games are Telling of peoples irl attitude towards things more times than not, and going out of your way to kill something when you can just move and not be bothered by it? tbh it makes me wish that unknown worlds never added the drill arm bc without it just about the only effective way you have to kill things is the survival knife and having to slowly slash away at a reaper with nothing protecting you from it would probably help deter the average player from deciding that a species that scares and inconveniences them has to go regardless of the impact on the ecosystem
this is why wolves got killed off in places, and im pretty sure we all know how that went (and if not, im sure googling the wolves of yellowstone will help)

The devs adding a tool to be used for drilling is just that, it's a tool, they shouldn't remove something from the game that has no real intention intention killing, people are the issue, you can use anything to kill, heck some people use the Seamoth as a ram, so should the devs remove it too ? Whatever the devs do people will always find a way to use things like weapons, weapons themselves aren't dangerous or can kill, it's the one who uses it with the intention to do so.

I have played subnautica the day it came out in very early 2016 and I remember all of this and it's so scary looking back on it. The most scariest thought back then for me was realising how dead the planet actually is, it got scary when realizing the PDA says the dead zone supports the biggest biome on the planet and its dead besides leviathan and microscopic animals. Seeing how the ghost leviathans eat large animals and not microbes, when they die it's going to be even deader scared me
Oh you're absolutely right :) Thinking about all those miles of deep empty ocean just makes me soo uneasy.

The Ecological Dead Zone is a reference to the same thing in Earth’s oceans, deepwater biomes where the only two things supported are plankton, filter feeder leviathans like whales, and the theoretical predators of whale-niche organisms (like sharks or bigger unseen mystery creatures). Point Nemo is in one of these locations. (It’s theorized that the Abyssal Plain below is very rich in nutrients from the marine snow, but this only supports a small biosphere.)

It saddens me knowing that Sea Dragons are going extinct. I already knew they were, but what I didn’t know was that the crash blocked the caves. I like to imagine that somewhere on 4546B there’s large group of Sea Dragon Leviathans who are happy and eating as many Reapers as they want

I do want to mention that there’s still a sea dragon egg in the primary containment facility that might still be living. The sea dragons almost likely reproduce asexually as the sea emperor does and they’re most likely close relatives. There’s still some hope for those beautiful fiery beasts.

Honestly, I couldn't imagine Subnautica with guns. Even though the circumstances that brought them to that decision were horrible, it was still probably the best decision. Game would be a lot less scary if I could just roll up on a reaper with an M249 SAW.

Hey TLB!! Loved your video!!! It was very entertaining and I also learned a few new things about the lore which is always great.
In case you ever make a video about Skyrim, here are a few spewky things about the game:
In Solitude, in the king's (or rather queen's, now) court there is a woman who was a teacher to the (now dead) king, and also a teacher to the (now dead) king's father, yet she looks really really young. She also never sleeps 🙂 that and a few other disturbing facts about her, like the fact that she doesn't show up when using the "detect living being" spell (vampires are undead), made the community suspect she's a vampire.
In Ivarstead there's is an NPC who was left out of society and went insane after the death of her sister. Turns out he's a werewolf. Her sister died in the river while foraging.
Well there's a quest to bring this man some rest of mind, to recover his sister's pendant. You find the pendant right next to a skeleton at the bottom of the nearby river, with no signs or any kind of weapon, like an arrow or a knife, and she died in a really weird way and place, right next to the village, so bandits are out of question.
People theorize that this werewolf NPC killed his sister and ate her in a burst of madness due to the full moon, and when the full moon cleared and he realized what he had done, he went insane.
This isn't so much spooky as it is sad. A man died during a volcano eruption (the eruption of mount Vvardenfell). If you loot his corpse, he only has a written note dedicated to her wife and get a side quest to deliver the message. It's really sad and beautiful to read it and give that woman peace.
Just research the whole origin of the falmer. That's a horror story in itself, and also extremely interesting.
There is a weird dude in Morthal which people in the city think he's dealing with the dark arts. This guy sneaks out of his home every night into the forest, goes to a weird ruin and performs some kind of ritual. He can also cure you of the vampire disease by offering a human soul in exchange. And as if that wasn't enough there is a spooky ghost in that forest which you can follow around until you reach his corpse. People still don't know what's the deal with that ghost but we suspect this warlock dude has something to do.
I know a few more things like these, both about Skyrim and other games, so if you are looking to do some research be sure to hit me up and I'll probably have something for you.

From a gameplay point of view, not having weapons more powerful than the knife and the stasis rifle is a good choice.
If you think about it more realistically it shows why people *should* have access to weapons. You'd be dead soooo many times over without actual defensive weaponry in the survivor's situation here. And certainly part of the crew suffered that fate as well, being hunted and consumed by sea critters. Ultimately you either submit to the advantages of technology or the natural rule of the strong.

Unsettling fact: Sparse Reef is a desert biome, almost without life (it haves life, but not too much), if you were alone playing, imagine in Sparse Reef. When I need to go there, I call my bro to play in my place 'cause is a so scary and unsettling place-

The PDA also says “Biodiversity in this region is unusually low, cause unknown” when you first enter it, which hints that the Sparse Reef may have been a tropical haven in the past, before some sort of event reduced it to a wasteland, much like how the Dunes was likely more lively before the meteor hit, and the Aurora destroyed whatever the Crash Zone used to be.
I dont know how much more unsettling facts you could give about the Amnesia games because all the games are unsettling all of the time... Awesome video!

Another thing is how it puts fear into people.
Sure, there are plenty of things that instill fear. But unlike many horror games, they don't make the enemies spawn specifically at one place. After you've seen what can creep up on you at any second, you'll always second guess even going near that location. Whether it be the aurora, the crater's edge, or anywhere else you'll know they're there. You just don't know when they're strike. And even if you know they can't follow you everywhere, you'll always have that feeling you'll look over and see a giant leviathan swimming at you, claws out mouth wide open ready to consume you entirely and leave no remains left.
Yep :) Subnautica really attacks the player with a fairly unique type of fear.

Scariest thing about this game for me is when I'm somewhere that feels like a leviathan should be there, but it's not and I can't help but feel even more scared with the ominous atmosphere without some big fish trying to kill me, it really messes with me the open areas without leviathan screams which I think is arguably scarier then the leviathans themselves.

This entire game is unsettling!
I spent a full week in the safe shallows, before venturing out. I managed to get the the cyclops built, saw a sea dragon, & that was it. I have never finished the game.
My nerves can't handle it lol.

1:40 We know that there's still quite some life left in the open oceans - microscopic, Ghosts and Void Chelicerates and who know what else. We also don't know if the two regions are indeed the two last remaining highly populated areas - we simply lack information about the rest of the planet. The Aurora also doesn't block the entrance at all - the eastern exit is by far the easiest to use and is easily large enough for the Sea Dragons.
Not quite true - the first game clearly tells us the rest of the planet is dead outside the crater :) And the dragon would still need to get out through the lava zone corridors which are way too tight!
@@TheLastBacon The first game also tells us that microcosmic and Leviathan class life is supported outside the crater and yes I am aware that this is mutually exclusive. This means that the first game provides us with conflicting information which in turn means that we don't know the truth; however given that Zector Zero exists (which is not mentioned in game 1) and the Ghost Leviathans and Void Chelicerates exist in the open ocean it is already proven that life does indeed exist outside the crater.
The Sea Dragons do not have to use the Lava Zone Corridor - there's a huge hole in eastern section of the inactive Lava Zone that leads directly to the Lost River and to the Mountain biome. The tunnel is not blocked or in any way shape or form damaged.
If you use the entrance to the Lost River that lies at the border between the Mointain and Bulb Bush biomes you'll discover this massive tunnel (which is littered with Reaper skeletons btw that where hunted down by the dragons). This tunnel is easily large enough for a Sea Dragon. The only question is what the Ghost Leviathan that is patrolling in the Lost River directly above the hole does when a Sea Dragon decides to go hunting.
@@HH-hd7nd It's more like there isn't much life other than those 2 kinds, while the game mentions that outside the crater the rest of the planet is mostly just deep ocean, it really isn't saying that that's all, plus how would the PDA even pinpoint accurately calculate the whole planet of every bit of life anyway, sure it can scan a good amount of the planet surface and say that since 99% of the world is just deep ocean than yea I would pretty much say it's dead outside too. 1% is things like thr crater and artic sector and other small habital islands but those are so little compared to the entire planet, the PDA probably didn't even account for the deepest part of the oceans on the planet having massive Leviathans, well it kinda did when it mentioned only Leviathan class species exist with micro organisms.
@@kevinfortin3398 You would be surprised how many creatures live in the deep oceans of Earth. It's not a barreb lifeless place at all - and that should even be more true to an ocean planet.

The good news about the karaa is that in general, in order to survive as a species, viruses and deadly diseases tend to mutate in a way that is less deadly. If the bacteria kills too many organisms, it does as a species as well due to a lack of food. So it’s possible that it could mutate into something that, while very unpleasant, is less likely to kill its host. Or I guess it COULD get much worse :/

I think taking guns out of Subnautica was a good idea, not for the reason the devs stated but for a diferent reason.
Once you get further into the game it becomes easier, and that is without the presence of actual guns in the game besides the missile upgrades for the seamoth and the prawn suit (Which by itself makes most of the creatures not threatning anymore), imagine how much of a joke the late/end game would be with weaponry?

I find it crazy how the sea dragons are such a danger, yet if you hug the walls and ignore it to an extent. It will not chase you down. Reaper also used to be more aggressive too. But is what it is.
Yeah I definitely think the dragons are less aggressive than reapers :)
