American's NEW A321neo: What's it like?

- Part 1 of MANY in a Week full of Chaos starts with a long flight across the country from Washington D.C.'s National Airport to Phoenix, Arizona aboard an almost brand new American Airlines A321neo in Main Cabin. On an entirely full flight, I completely lucked out with snagging one of the best seats on the plane with an almost unlimited amount of legroom at my disposal. My opinions on the aircraft itself though, specifically American's version of it, aren't good. Compared to the likes of JetBlue, Alaska, and Delta, this new cabin couldn't be further from innovative and fresh. I really hope American has some plans to liven it up a bit, maybe let passengers have a bit more comfort, and spice up their service (and add a 2nd one on longer flights). A single service with one pack of pretzels on 4-6 hour flights really sticks out like a sore thumb. The crew was all really nice though so nothing against them. I Flew From DFW - CLT on the NEW A321 Neo it was quite nice to say the least and I agree with you on nearly everything . You did amazing on the video .

I slept for half the flight the chair was comfortable though for a nap .

Thanks for the video. I happened to book 26A on two different upcoming flights so I was curious what they’d look like, considering there isn’t a seat in front of them. So happy I stumbled on this video. And so happy I got these seats for the 5 and a half hour leg of my trip (both ways even).

I’m literally doing this flight in 12 days so I’m glad you made this video so now I know they’re only gonna give pretzels and water to people so I’ll probably have to bring other food on the plane from the airport lol

I'll be on a 321neo for the first time myself in about a month, looking forward to it! Also I have nice memories of driving through Hays, KS on family road trips.

thanks for this, I am flying to Vegas this weekend on this plane and this looks pretty good. Hopefully, AA doesn't cancel flights consider the state of the country right now.
I've been pretty disappointed with AA. I find them to be so dull and lackluster, and even first class it's like ghetto first class, nothing special or nice about it. Unfortunately, if I want nonstop flights to most places from where I am, it would have to be AA.
I flew on the A321neo Anchorage to Dallas June 2020 despite the pandemic the plane was full, was happy when we landed in Dallas

Im not a great flyer so based on this I upgraded to seat A1. I bought my ticket a week out and most good seats were full. I'm hoping it goes well lol. I got the same exit row seat you like with nobody in front of you for my trip back. First time on American. thanks for the vid.

The trains at the beginning are not currently in service due ti misaligned wheels as well which is a shame i love those trains

I've done a regular A321 from DCA-PHX, but this was during 2015 where service was better.
I have to say I’ve traveled quite frequently the past year with a JetBlue round trip to Vegas in may on the a321 which was typical JetBlue nothing crazy. A trip on southwest in July to bwi which I always love southwest. A trip to atl on delta in October which was amazing love delta and again on delta to Orlando in February and came back on jetblues new a220. The a220 is my favorite I have to say. I just came off a trip to Miami on AA and despite the lack of tv, I found the streaming to be hassle free and also their service was amazing both ways. Some of the best flight crew on my return flight.

Well, I traveled last year and the streaming is terrible. They want you to watch commercial every 15 minutes.

This is the exact seat I am thinking of upgrading to. The other seat would be the “middle” seat in The row in front of this. I am a bigger guy and I was thinking if I can sit in the inside seat of the 2 set I might be more comfortable. Any thoughts?
How do yall figure out what plane version before flight? Like I know on our tickets it says a few flights are a321 but you look at seat guru and it says 3 versions ect

I’ve flown on their 321NEO multiple times and to summarize what it’s like, no different than the 321 except a little quieter.
Ive been on the DC Metro before back in 2012 very efficient and avoided the DC traffic, sometimes trains were pretty crowded

How do you record? I always get so scared to lol.
I would say that they need to add their own IFE systems, I took the A321neo and in first class and even in economy, there were no IFE systems, so everyone had to use their personal devices, which was fine, but I wish they had the IFE systems, and same goes for the A321, they did not have any IFE systems either, it was pretty comfy for me, both ways and I like the cabin and they dimmed the lights which was nice! :)
Did DCA not make the main hall post security yet?
Some of American’s A321neo’s were produced and delivered in my hometown of Mobile, Alabama
We flew on American from Charlotte to Las Vegas with only 1 drink service too.

Thanks for the nice video, Chris. Even though I don't travel that much except for driving I have to agree that American Airlines is a disappointment. They have put the all mighty dollar ahead of their passengers. I read recently where Delta has started serving hot meals again beginning on March 1st. I think that the PTV are only available on the American Airlines widebody aircraft. Enjoy your week of Chaos and Hawaii.
Yeah. I think the Airbus A319 is their last narrow body with ptvs currently in no plans

Won't be for awhile as my backlog is over 80 vids, but it is a BIG focus of mine to get back to realtime which is why I've stopped filming new stuff since Jan 2022 & am concentrating on editing what I have 👍🏻
The neo is amazing on American Airlines
I had no idea that the FA sits in row 28. I'm flying to Philadelphia in Row 29. I sure hope I don't get a rude FA that tells me I'm not allowed to film on the plane and then sits in front of me. That was the only good window seat available unfortunately because the planes were all sold out, and in the middle of fall too.
Sounds like prue flight hell on a 4.5 hour flight. Use to travel AA almost exclusively 100,000+ miles a year but i've switched most of the UA. AA's "new" interiors are too cramped even in F and no PTV and mediocre at service at best. UA has really been stepping up their game.
How do you know if it's a neo or not? Does it say on the ticket?
Yes most time while you’re booking your ticket through the app or online it tells you before booking.
Ive been on both the Yellow and Blue line trains in DC and stayed in Crystal City while I was there (Embassy Suites)

I flew on an American A321-NEO from Chicago to LAX then LAX to HNL. They’re pretty good. Really comfortable and spacious. They’re nice to rest on if you’re on a 3+ hour flight
Try flying Southwest into and out of Phoenix sometime also maybe visit Scottsdale Arizona and I know what the Southwest Airlines part is like at Phoenix Sky Harbor plus ride the PHX Sky Train and maybe hang out with TH-camr Skyvator Productions

I flew on Americans A321neo down here to TPA! Very quick, and very worthy of a would fly again flight. I was in first class and they served drinks before the flight and while having breakfast too! Tomorrows flight back to PHL will be on their A321. Question: do the A321’s have their own IFE? I was on the A321neo and I had to use my phone as IFE.

The flight looked like a good one to me, but it kind of stinks that pretzels were the only type of food handed out in flight. I want to give the AA a321neo a try. It’s been about a few years ago so far since those aircraft types went into service operating this airline.
I avoid American Airlines at all cost. In college this was my go to airline but, as you noted they have lost their way.
JetBlue Airways have free WiFi onboard All there flights way better than AA.

Gee DCA is distinctive - and 1980s ugly. Georgetown is much better, and I'd love to head back. As for your flight and service, nothing distinctive whatsoever, but maybe that's what AA is aiming for?

What a shitbox. American put first class but still manages to squeeze 196. JetBlue has no first and only put 200 on the same plane. With screens, live tv free WiFi and TWO snack services.
It's a no brainer for me and glad to be in NYC where JetBlue, Delta fly pretty much everywhere.
