Flying Silver Airways' Re-Inaugural Flight to Jacksonville

- Hey guys! Welcome to a brand new airline video for the channel & another inaugural flight! This one has two labels...it is the first flight back into JAX for Silver Airways after leaving a few years ago, making it a "re-inaugural", but also being the inaugural flight of the ATR 42-600 for them into JAX. I will have a video coming later on about my very first experience on this airline (which wasn't good), but this time I had an awesome time! Everybody from the pilots to the flight attendant to the gate agents to even the CEO were all extremely nice and really made the flight very enjoyable. As far as the ATR, it was my first time on this particular aircraft and it definitely left a good impression on me. Compared to Silver's Saab 340Bs, these are MUCH nicer. If you need to hop across Florida, the Caribbean, the Bahamas, or even New England now, I think Silver is a great (cheap) option to pick that'll get you there safely and in a fairly comfortable cabin. Hopefully some day I'll get to try their larger ATR aircraft, the ATR 72, as I've heard some good things about that plane as well. Having taken so many flights between Seattle and Anchorage, it really kills me to see how the inflight beverage/food service has changed so drastically. I don't believe that Covid is the total reason for this change but I wasn't asked for my opinion. Thanks for an excellent vlog, I look forward to some of your other ones!

Curious as to why they parked like they did at the terminal at JAX. If he had cut hard right about 20' back and parallel to the terminal which was a common procedure when the ATR was used more commonly he would have eliminated the need for a pushback on the TPA leg. My father flew the earliest ATRs for American Eagle in the late '80s-90s. A unique feature of the ATR was that if you were sitting in the bulkhead the tray tables were detachable and were kept in the overhead and would be clipped in for service. I remember siting in 1A and asking for the "A tray" many times.
Even now CAE-FLL seems like a long leg for an ATR. Curious about the stage length on that route.

I remember when Silver used to fly in West Virginia till they kept landing at the wrong airport everytime on the way to CKB from MGW.

18:01 just under the clouds to the right is my home on East Lake Toho. Hard to fly over this area in my own plane because the bravo is so low at 900 ft because it's the approach path from the South into MCO. The Stratus is the pilots personal ADSB which shows weather/traffic/location that goes to his ipad. Crazy to think someone brought their stratus or that Silver uses a Stratus instead of some fancy system in their planes. I was waiting for someone to say DUUUUUVAAALLL getting into Jax.

My old stomping ground, looks like Silver has taken over the old Republic gate back when it was US air. I got stories about that airport and the people I know (Including the United CEO who is a local to JAX)
Ahh, so it WAS the re-inaugural flight back into JAX last Monday (the 21st)! I was flying out to CHS on 3M later that morning and didn't put two-and-two together about the balloons. I would highly recommend that flight as well. It's a nearly 2.5 hour segment, but it's really the only direct link to FLL since B6 isn't flying that route currently (due to COVID), and those props put you right to sleep =)
Silver is very well known in Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, and the Caribbean Islands.

I can get a $65 flight to FLL. It's a 2 hour trip from Charlotte and I have thought about going there in the morning, eating lunch and flying back in the afternoon. Is it worth the visit? Just for a quickie?

Nice video! I used to fly for Silver and that bingo game pretty nicely sums up how the company used to be managed- good intent with horrible execution! To any Silver Bingo game executives that might be reading- maybe only put the seat numbers that are occupied in the bingo grab bag next time you do a give away?
Quick question on the last video you were in Anchorage Alaska but did you fly some flights off screen down to Fort Lauderdale to get to this flight.

Saw where Silver is finally servicing GSP, my home and favorite airport.
I live in Jax, this seems like a fun alternative to 4-5 hour drives south...as long as you care to rent a car when you arrive.

Really neat color charcoal sketch done by? The only avgeeks I could identify were you,Zach and Emilano,the others weren't obvious--what hotel is "Wa-Wa" or was it a next-door business? In your various flying experiences,has anybody not in the avgeek community ever approached you,recognizing you from YT? Really surprised that seemingly none of you avgeeks carry business cards for advertising in case flight/cabin crews enquire about your filming

Always loved the ATR's when we had them in the NE. Glad to see them back flying with Silver.
Enjoyed the vlog. If youre departure stayed "on time" as indicated on the flight info at Ft Lauderdale, your flight averaged around 173 kts/hr. I wouldve thought the ATR 42-600 would have better performance than that. Im with your opinion that it is a steep uphill climb for this route to continue on a frequent basis.
Flight time is different from block time. Flight time is wheels up to wheels down and really only matters to airline operations personnel and the flight crew for flight planning and monitoring purposes. Block time (official arrival/departure time) start when the boarding door is closed/parking brake is released, includes all time on the ground before and after the actual airborne portion, and ends when the boarding door is opened at the arrival airport.
I took silver airlines three years ago from Tampa to Tallahassee and it was a very good flight I must tell you I did do Tampa to Jacksonville on the old US air express back on New Year’s Day 2000. It was a nice flight too.
I flew out of that airport last year on Southwest back to Tampa from Terminal 1, but I was in the A concourse, so you departed from the other end of the terminal. I like flying out to Lauderdale when I come back to Tampa because I don’t have to deal with going through Miami etc.

They do now; they inherited them from the Virgin America buyout. Several of them are parked in storage due to lack of demand during COVID-19.
