If we increase every Pokemon hp by 2x. Battles will be longer and more tactical bcs more time and options. I always hated 1-2 shotting 50 level Pokemons. Its not fun. It's just like grinding in MoBa. But nobody makes such a game. It would be very fun imo
I'm looking at the website right now, and just the fact that there's an estate where I can watch my boxed Pokemon walk around and chill already has me sold. Easily one of the best fangames ever on that merit alone.
@@marjimanrts I'm currently working on a system like that, but ALL battles will be super long. Even the unimportant battles against wild Pokemon. Finding the balance is pretty tricky. :)
Hey, since you're one of the devs, first congrats on the game! It looks really fun and I really want to play it! But can you help me installing it on Linux?
@@tadeucpii As of 3.1, we include a Linux version of the game executable. I haven't tested it myself, but one of our users, who is a Linux exclusive player, helped me set it up so my understanding is that it is playable out of the box.
Tectonic is great. The devs even showed me how to modify my starter choices with a free trial of RPG Maker because I wanted Mawile as my starter no matter what, lol.
When deciding what pokemon you use for each battle, take notes of what Tribes they're in as having various pokemon of the same Tribe in your party provides a buff such as boosting your power when using special attacks, if you're fast you can see that the team used for the first gym doesn't have any tribal bonus at 6:43 as shown in the bottom-left of the screenshot
Great video! Tectonic is personally my favourite fangame, and honestly I do think the story is quite interesting. A big pitfall it unfortunately falls into is that the story is very mundane up until the final act, but I did find the villain pretty compelling
I definitely appreciate and respect fangames that try to change some of the core mechanics in Pokemon while trying to keep the same experience Most rom hacks just do surface level changes which don't change the main issues that the original games have, so seeing a team try to change those things as well as adding their own twists and flavors is definitely a great project
l think one of the most fun changes are the new weathers and the type chart rebalance changes. They went even further beyond to make sure any moon feels useful in one way.
I just replayed this game, and it's really good- I wish it got more attention! Something the video doesn't mention is that before the first gym you get a key item that toggles "cursed" mode for major battles. My favorite pokemon is skitty of all things- it gets an ability that is probably the most broken thing I've ever seen in a pokemon game
I've started playing pokemon odyssey since i saw your video and i'll surely play this this one once i'm done with it! Thank you sharing rom/fan games they are always pretty cool!
Love your channel! I subscribed, you have such interesting perspectives on games I’ve never heard of before. Opened my eyes that there are more than the base games out there 😮
The one part of your review I have to disagree on is that the story isn't anything special, when really, I think the story is unique for a Pokemon fangame. The concept behind the protagonist being a rich kid who needs to prove themselves to their mother while competing with their older brother is already pretty unique, but then you learn about stuff like Team Chasm and the Totems through the subtle world-building, and you realize you're not your typical protagonist, you're just a person who's doing your journey after another protagonist finished their journey, taking down the evil team and becoming champion and all that. The story isn't shoved in your face, and that's what makes it unique in comparison to other fangames.
This is genuinely one of my favorite fan games ever. All of the character interactions were incredibly done, writing was great, villain was incredible, and the fresh take on battling was also great. Perfect 10/10 for me, also disagree with the story being nothing special.
@@ayrei1503 wasn’t slighting your opinion lol, sorry if it came off that way! I just disagreed with that is all, also Vanguard is fantastic, keep up the good work
Ive played a lot of rom hacks and fan games, and this one is the best. There are only a few that even come close to being as good. I think you could have tripled the length of this video, and still had more to talk about.
It's been a while since I played this game so my memory of it isnt fresh but from what I remember is that I had no idea what was going on during the battles and got bored quickly because of that

I wonder what the shiny odds in this game are. Because I remember seeing aDrive play similar games like this and I’ve seen him find custom shiny Pokémon.
The masterdex features is definitely something that should be added into the official mainline games by now. I can't believe that in 2024 we still have to go to some 3rd party fan website to look up information for base stats, evolution requirements, level up moves etc.
I’m curious ive downloaded a long range of rom hacks on the new delta ios app but will fan games work I’ve tried to download reborn and rejuvenated but I cant seem to play either
There's about 1 double battle per route. Half of all gyms are double battles. Avatar battles are well, kind of like double-battles. So, a decent chunk!
Tectonic is a great game but having to perfect fights makes travelling around the game kinda annoying, especially when there isnt a free travel method like Fly for most of the game but rather a more restricted form of travelling in the teleport totems Story spoilers: Was really enjoying the casual settings of the game without having to deal with a world ending threat as a 10 years old which is a great change for once, but then in the post game, out of nowhere you now have to deal with a world ending threat In general Tectonic was a very enjoyable game gameplay wise but some nitpicks really prevents it from being the best experience
To be fair, the main character is actually intended to be like ~18, and the overarching plot *is* built up over time, but as the game's writer... yes. You are correct. The pacing is weird and the main plot should've been established more/integrated better with the gym challenge stuff.
Great game indeed with great ideas. But I disagree with one thing and that is that trainers are not difficult and that is not true. Even without concidering perfecting a battle, trainers have balanced teams and must be approched with good knowledge of the game mechanics, even some good strategy. If you want to perfect each battle when you first accounter any trainer, oh boy good luck ^^. And to be honest, I think they are too difficult. They are very close to the level of the next gym leader and they have balanced and unpredictable teams built in quite a strategic way while gym leaders have known types even if 2. Because of that the pace of the game when it comes to difficulty is not very balanced and that is exausting. Espacially when you are forced to face trainers again and again after everytime you go to the pokecenter, it gets very frustrating at some point. Don't get me wrong, I love this fangame but after 50+ hours of gameplay it really gets harder to want to continue because of that.
I’m playing through a second play through of it and I completely agree. It’s so annoying yet so fun lol. I feel like I have become a master at predicting switch ins 😂
I could see how someone really interested in the strategies might enjoy this. I, however, did not. I tried it out after your video, and only got about 3-4 hours into it. I disagree that every battle is fun. Being forced to do every one several times until you can complete it deathless is SO ANNOYING. I quit not long after badge 1. 1) trainers have competent AI and will very easily take out one or more of your pokemon, meaning you have to keep restarting and trying over and over again 2) trainers will always respawn and re-attack you after the pokemon center, unless you can beat them deathless, which is tedious as hell. 2) wild XP is gone, the ONLY WAY to grind is to fight the same trainers over and over and over again 3) hard level cap is enforced, can never over level your way out of a problem 4) since the game is so difficult, you're forced to have a full team of 6 right from the beginning 5) grinding that team of 6 to the level cap is completely cancer because you can only grind on trainers who are 1-2 levels behind you with large teams that can kick your ass if anything is underpowered 6) because of how large and strategically structured the enemy AI teams are, you're basically forced to catch everything you see and constantly rework your team. Which means more cancer trainer grinding.
dude, just play cassette beasts -every battle is doubles -intuitive action point system -full new dex (a lot better than most pokemon designs tbh) -open world -story is actually better than most games I've played -has that authentic feeling of exploration new pokemon misses out on; it's actually fun
"Every Battle is doubles." That just makes things repetitive. "Full new dex better than Pokemon." I couldn't find one strong expression or personality among CB's incredibly boring roster of monsters. "Open World." Open worlds are fine, but it doesn’t mean linear worlds are bad. "Amazing story." The story boils down to humans=good/everything else=bad, something I literally play mon-tamers to get away from. The characters are unlikable human-sues and the plot tries to be overly complex despite being insufferably shallow. "It's actually fun." No. It isn't.
