Thanks for the video. FYI - Pam has a sticky agent. It's meant to stick to sheet pans, then gets washed after one use. I've done this seasoning method using Pam with cast iron skillet, and it got cakey after some use. It peeled and orange stuff comes off on the food. It's better to have a plate filled with regular Vegetable oil, a towel folded to dip into the oil, and some tongs to used to grab the towel and brush the oil on. Repeat a few times.
Cleaned up well. I would recommend Flax seed oil higher burn point meaning you really coat it and get that oil barrier once heated and re applied but not bad man happy cooking!
Replacing 3 gates on my Char Griller Model 2123 would cost $112 (incl shipping), whereas just buying a whole new Model 2123 would cost $130. I'll opt for a buying a gallon of vinegar instead. Thanks Rob!
I'm in the process of rehabilitating my Char Griller grill. I live in Florida and it's humid to say the least and rust happens here. I found your video very useful and I will try your method on my grill. Thank you so much.
Rob, when I bought my Acorn the grates were 10 times worse than yours. I sprayed them off, hit them with a grill brush every time flipped the grates while burning them off. I ran a 400 degree fire for about 5 hours on one chimney of charcoal. I hit them with Pam about every 30 minutes. Great job on your grate. Looks damn good.
Somebody was throwing away a akorn. I got it and gonna try to clean it up. The grate is caled with rust. Also under the lid(top) a gilm seems to have come off all that is left it around the seal. So im gonan scarl that off and check seals 😊

I NEARLY spent another 70 bucks on a replacement grill. That was easy AF! Thanks!

Nice, its always great to see the rust go away and new life brought into cast iron!
That is a LONG process but nicely done. Heck, I like that little gadget used to grab hold of the grate!
Thank you for this!!! I just got an old grill from a friend who didn't want to take it with him, this is going to help me tremendously in cleaning it!

Great job on the cleaning process, Rob! Cheers bro! 🍻
Haha.. I was wondering if anyone would catch that :) I didn't notice him in real time, only when I was editing.

Ah, nice. Let me know how it goes - thanks!
Old video but what I needed.
Nice, thanks!
great idea to use the wheel barrel
Cleaning mine now, never thought of using Pam for seasoning the grate. What "grate" idea 🤣🤣 dumb dad joke done for the day.
Cool, I just got an Akorn, so this will help me out in the future.
Thanks for your tips was bout to trash and get new one's.
Nice Rob! I’ve used the same technique on my cast iron skillets
Thank you. Mines in the same condition. I’ll need to find something large enough to let it soak.
Are you trying to inspire me to clean my Blackstone? Great video Rob!
Great tips and cleanup Rob. 👍🏾

Thanks for the video, now clean the other one haha and remember to clean the greese and all every couple of usages, then it won't rust that bad ^^
thanks man! thought I might have to get rid of mine
Great video brother, I need to get on cleaning my pit here very soon
Thanks! Yeah, the vinegar soak did wonders!
Great video. Did you use regular food grade vinegar or 30% concentrate ($20/gallon)? And do you have to add water in the food grade vinegar?
Do you not season the bottom of your grate? Just curious because I know rust spreads. I imagine the oil worked its way around.
Very helpful thank you,,, I even like the view of the backyard it reminds me of mine
Don't listen to that John Taylor guy...you did a great job, explained everything well!
Great job! Thank you!
Looks good
Excellent
RIP mr spider
Good job on that cleaning Rob. 👊 Now, give that Acorn some love and fire it up at least once a week to prevent that build-up. LOL
Thanks! Do you cover your grill or does it rain a lot or get humid where you are?
Wow, that cleaned up nice👍
Hi, after you soaked it in the vinegar did you have to rinse it with wter first or do you go straight to the heat and oil to season?
Rinse off all of the vinegar first
Thanks for your video. It worked
Great video. Thanks
Thanks man!
Good clean up and tips.
Thanks man!
Great video Rob, Now what are you going to cook in it? BBQ minds want to know. Joe told me to say that. lol😎👍
Very nice straight forward video. Is it a good idea to paint or add a coat to prevent more rust in the future?
I'm sure Pam Oil is a lot better than Spam Oil. Great video. Thanks
Add baking soda to the vinegar. 👍🏻
Very nice Rob,, thank you🕷🕸
Got it looking good
Does the vinegar taste bleed into the food? And if so can I use apple cider vinegar?
Hey Don, thanks for watching! I didn't notice any vinegar taste at all.. you could maybe use apple cider vinegar, but i've just used regular.
Seasoning cleaning
Is coke useful too?
Place grate in the oven and run self clean
Great tips! Thanks for sharing!
When mine rust l am going to buy a stainless grate
GO FLYERS!!!
You can't season cast iron with Pam as it won't polymerize with the heat. It'll just temporarily mimic the look of it, the protection isn't there.
I would not soak cast iron in vinegar overnight. If they are not cast iron then no worries lol.
WOW amazing TU Beautiful
now oil it and don't leave it out in the rain
Using JD charcoal for seasoning a grill? 😳
I save the JD for good cooks
I was sponsored by them at the time - plus, plenty left over anyway. Paying for it though, probably wouldn't do that.. Thanks for watching Greg!
Nice..... but too mch work.
Thank you for this
Too choppy too long you’re not a very entertaining person try doing it six times before you film it
Dont listen to that fella dandriscoll6573. You did a perfect job
