Recently, one of my students came to me with an issue. He had pulled too hard on one of the JoyCon's and its connector piece broke clean off! After taking a look at it, I told him that I shouldn't have any issue repair it and I got to work. Yep, mine fell and the button fell out. So now I have a Joycon that works but can’t be slipped out of the latch.

you were out of frame at the most crucial part! that ribbon cable for the joycon rail is absolute HELL and I've managed to break 2 right joycon motherboards trying to fix them
paperclip the section where the button would normally press the release, problem solved :)

FYI: the joy-con will still work. Of course if you don’t fix it you don’t play on tabletop mode. You just have to slide off the other joy-con and you can play. The piece with the ribbon is the thing that charges it and makes you able to play tabletops mode. The thing you have to be careful on the busted joy-con is the battery ( again the ribbon charges the joy-con ) which I do recommend putting it back on.
Ok but, what about the battery. How can you recharge it in this state
Once it runs out of battery charge, it won't work anymore.. and in the case of a tooth component being punched out.. the parts have to be replaced altogether.

for anyone who had *accidentally* popped the connector on the *right joycon* off and doesnt have any access to tools, you can fix it with only your fingers assuming the ribbons are still attached to the connector.
There should be two ribbons on the connector, one with a lighter tip on the top and one with a darker tip on the bottom. Disregard the top ribbon, it is absolutely useless in terms of general functionality. Your priority should be reconnecting the bottom ribbon. There should be a little usb port lookin thing that aligns with the ribbon. Try to lay the ribbon on to that port thing before gently pushing it it. If you managed to reconnect that ribbon your next priority should be putting the connector back inside the joycon.
First you gotta insert the side of the connector where the screws are supposed to be . If you do it correctly you should be left with the connector tilting since the other side isnt popped in yet. The trick to putting that side back in is by stretching out the joycon's hole. With a few trials and errors you should be able to put that side of the railing back into the joycon and viola, your right joycon is working and charging again, though without the lights working, but them lights useless anyway.
If you managed to connect the ribbon but you dont want to risk breaking the joycon with the brute force method above, you can just attach the connector back to the switch whilst the ribbon is still attached to the joycon and it should still charge but with the downside of not having a comfy handheld experience.

@@samz_network8635 if it's not going back on whatsoever, i'd recommend buying a replacement perhaps? ours somehow managed to go back in though, keep trying and hope for the best :)
This is gonna be useful. I Raged and smashed the switch on my leg and the joycon's rail came off. However, the rail stuck in the switch so I'll need to open the switches back

I dropped my switch and the joycon broke off the switch. only the railing attachment it stuck on th2 switch with no way to get it off
Hmmm...haven't seen that yet...there should be a release on the side that would allow you to slide the rail out though.
did you ever find a way to get it off?? mine did the same thing & i can’t get it off

Can you not open your joycon shell up, reattach the ribbons and then reclose the shell around the rail and remove them normally? Itl be a pain and might be worth putting the shell round attaching the ribbon cables once its off but yeah should work
@@barneyhall8325 I did this and the little peice of plastic the holds the ribbons are so poorly made that it broke when I tried to put the ribbon back in. Just had to put up the m ok e for another over priced controller

Thanks sm for this video! I ripped open my barely month old left joycon by accident but luckily the ribbon cables didn’t detach. This video helped me put it back together :)

I know this was two years ago but I just broke mine so I’m seeing it now- but if youre on mobile and put the video on full screen, you can zoom in and see what he’s doing better! For future reference on other videos I guess haha
I dropped mine but it didn’t come off, it’s like bent so instead of being flat, it’s lifting up on one side, idk what to do and one of those little brown things on the inside are sticking out
Something so similar happened to mines and no videos is on it my Nintendo switch fell and the railing the right joy on connects game off and is stuck on the right joy con with broken plastic stuck on one of the connecting parts ( it snapped and broked) what should I do??
There is typically a very small release hole to release the rail. If the plastic is broken, you will need to replace the joycon.
GameDad no the joycon is perfectly fine but the switch device it self where the screws on side that make the joycons connect to the switch came of the right side idk how to connect it back should I make a video and show you what it is?

HELP PLEASE! What if that latch piece is still attach to the switch display? My son dropped my switch and it came apart but the latch piece can’t be removed because the safety catch button is broken 😞

There were two ribbon cables on the joycon which one was the one that helps charge it and which one was the one that controls small buttons on the bottom
I believe the lower cable runs to the charge board.
I came to this video because I accidentally broke my right joy con on my Nintendo switch OLED. Instead of the ribbon cables coming out of the joycons themselves, they are sticking out the side of the switch on the right side..not sure how much that’s going to cost to get replaced if I go that route and will I have all my saved game data after repairs?

Can anyone help me my daughter snapped off a joy con so I bought a replacement and now it won’t work when attached, I’ve taken the rail off and inspected it for damage but I cannot see anything and It looks identical to the working one.
My Little sisters snapped like that but its still contexted and works so any fixs?

I'm having problems with my left joycon. I dropped it and a piece came off and I can open up it easily now unlike my right joycon and whenever I press the l shoulder button it's stuck is there any thing I can do to fix this problem

So the railing is stuck in my switch like in the video and I need help with removing it safely so I don't break my switch, there is a crack in the joycon and it's the one that controls movement in games so I want to get a new joycon unless there is a way to fix it 😢
I have one question: What if I accidentally took it out in a complete raging moment, and somehow managed to make a little crack on the little hinge under the Z button that has one of the screws, this get stuck, and by panicking about this event end up damaging the screws (changing the screwdriver shape of the screw)?

I reconnected the end of the small ribbon connector to it's spot on the joycon board and clipped it down. :)

Hey im in quite a predicament here, do you think you could help me? This same thing happened to me, but it was in such a way that the connector stayed attached to the switch’s screen and so there’s no way to get it off. I was planning in just getting a new Joy-Con altogether as it would be easier than this since I don’t have the tools or anything, but if the connector is permanently stuck on to the switch then it is not an option. Also idk if this matters but the Joy-Con does actually work, it is still paired to the switch and it does recognize any button inputs. What should I do? Thanks in advance.
Use a paperclip to hit the release where the button would normally press and that should get it off of there for you!

The part that this conects to on my swich is loose. When i try to put in the joy con it says it isnt atacthed to swicth, even though it look likes it
Sounds like the joycon might be busted unless you're comfortable with soldering that piece back on.

Hi Gamedad. This has just happened to my grandson’s original blue joycon. (Original Red seems fine). The plastic broke with ribbons hanging out, and I can’t fix it. So, I bought 2 new ones on amazon and they don’t work right. I’ve paired and charged, but the left blue one lights but won’t work and right red works intermittently. Is there a certain type that goes better with the original full Nintendo switch console I got him this past Christmas for $299 from Target? Square trade won’t help without me shipping entire thing back and no way grandson is giving up tv controllers for that to happen. Do I have just buy another $99 set from some other seller and try again? Some are neon, some are curvy- does it matter? Can we still use the old red and mix and match in a new blue? Grandma in her 70’s here and little gaming/ set up savvy. Thanks in advance. COVID time is no time for Nintendo switch woes.
Sorry to hear about the issues! I would always advise against 3rd party for something like this. Just go with original controllers.

But I did see an outer case set with those triwings. Maybe I could open up, but I gotta say those ribbons didn’t look easy to put back. Oh, it’s called replacement shell housing. Its hard to say if it would have worked if it was 3rd party. Ive never opened one of those myself.

There should be a small release where the button would normally press in. You need to use a paperclip or something small like that to release it.
What if the joy on is still connected but it’s just tilted and uncomfortable (my problem rn)

When you reconnect the ribbon cable, it should start working again.

stupid question, the Joycon and the little slide on with the wrope noose... can you show how it's suppose to be fitted and split apart. I can't believe it's needed as much force/strength as I'm needing to apply to split them apart for kids.
Note Joycon onto switch and Joycon onto the "single remote unit (making it like a xBox remote) is easy/peasy.

I'm pretty sure if you just unscrew it, you can place it back where it goes then screw it back together.

If you mean the orange-ish ribbon cable, no, you can't repair that, it would need to be replaced.

I have a problem similar but the connection thing is separated where the controller is detached while the railing is still stuck at the switch console the release button is gone pls help

Hi so basically I was changing the shells from my joycons and when I went to see if it would charge it wouldn't charge but all the buttons worked and now the problem is that the joy con is dead and won't charge please help
