please help i can't stop clicking Steve Martin's monologue videos... when you found me dead from starving with a laugh on my face please tell my family I love them 😢
When he puts his flat hands on that podium, it gets me every time. It's like he is so comfortable to speaking in front of many other people (something not new to him or us) even in all his happiness and still tears up the room with his shower of comedy magic. Exactly the same as when he got his Governors' Award.
Here's a few tips for making a great speech: Allow enough time. Begin writing. Put down anything - it's better than empty space! Ask for assistance from friends. You do not need to do it by alone take advantage of ready made speech outlines. Try it out with a few people and ask for their opinions.
The whole speech is just a mastepiece But Marty's being Steve's biggest fan and Steve referring to Marty 7 times in 4 minutes just sends me, god I love their friendship😁😁
Whoever did not get to see Steve Martin live at the pinnacle of his stand up career missed the greatest comedian in history. If the standard is how hard an audience ever laughed during a stand up performance. (His movies don't come anywhere close to his stand up at his peak when it was new to the world) I've never witnessed anything like it. Everyone in the room was gasping for air from laughing so hard. He tapped the source of comedy. The god of comedy. Not one joke was told and people were dying from laughter.
You're so right. I remember a friend came back from the States in the early 80s with an LP of his performances and I couldn't stop listening to it. The line that still cracks me up: "That cat was the best fuck I ever had."
@@tkjohn885 In the build up to the joke he lists a bunch of reasons why one might want to avoid going into the comedy business, and basically he's saying the smart people are the ones that avoid getting into comedy in the first place.
@@ЗамирбекСыдыкбеков Tickets were available for the event as an “Admission” ticket and a matching numbered “Gift basket “ ticket. Conan is getting Martin’s gift basket seat.
Steve did say Chaplin and Keaton ( Buster) and he meant t those 2 and then it's really not definable ... To him ! And so I certainly agree that there's not a comedic ,actor genius , even ant category ,genuis an only be ascribed _"I think Einstein is a genuis " is literally a. Opinion! " I think!" Like ,Mozart! Might and is. Is considerred a genuis! So by that ,guess what , ? Many are great few geniuses.... Like is Dylon ,"a genius writer to some "In Rock!?" So ,all Comics of all times rec ognize Chaplin as Genuis!!! As did Steve Martin saying ,"Except for Chaplin a nd Keaton!!!!! So genuis is a very very selective word ,a d should not be used for even some said Robin Williams ,smart ,very good but no not genuis! Period!
I don't want to rain on everyone's parade here but although I like Steve Martin and always have his film catalog isn't deep enough to warrant his getting this award. There are several posts here pointing out his stand up comedy as the highlight of his career and if that's the case that would reinforce what I'm saying. If the AFI is finding worthy recipients of their Lifetime Award so scarce then stop giving it out for awhile until there is one.
This award is a joke, afterwords it was given to Clooney, Kidman, unbelievable, next time it will be given to the greatgreatson of Lassie too. But not to the current symbol of the cinema Sylvester Stallone, or to Mel Gibson, or to Anthony Hopkins, or to Gene Hackman, or to Jodie Foster, or to Sally Field, or to Kate Winslet...
I'm too young to find Steve Martin funny. He bores me to tears. Dad jokes are funnier. Best thing about him I liked was his opening for Tom Hanks' afi award.
my nephew is 12 and he thinks hes extremly funny. i guess its not entirly about age but with whom you have watched all these "old" movies. half the new comics are selling old shit with glitter on it. but the youth enjoys it(i do too but i also laughed at the same shit 20 years ago^^)
Unpopular opinion alert: Good comedian - okay, but comic genius? He realy isn't. There is a few comedians and a whole lot of actors who deserved this award before him.
"I don't deserve this award. but I have arthritis and I don't deserve that either. thank you very much" great closing lines!!
They used it in the irishman:)
Rick Dalton Jack Benny had some great lines. Inspired Steve Martin and Johnny Carson
An absolute legend. I watch this ATLEAST once a month.
Verb Satis Sabentibus…!!!

What legends Carl Reiner , Mel Brooks 🥰
Steve is one o the best joke tellers that I ever seen. Iconic.
I could listen to him 24/7.
He's one of the very few comedian who can make everybody laugh effortlessly...at least, as it seems...

Greatest comedian in history?... Don Rickles, Robin Williams, Charlie Chaplin... need I say more? Duh.... 🤮🤮
@@chillkalang9025 ,there was also the great entertainer jerry lewis.
you can just look at his eyes ,and without him saying anything you smile!
steve Martin is pure genius and class. Talent and class like this is rare.
Talent and class (two items) like this are* rare.
Love Steve Martin...he is a comic genius!
Mel Brooks and Carl Reiner - two comic geniuses!!
Nice to see conan there
His timing is amazing. The biggest genius in comedy
I liked the closing line 😍 he IS a comic genius!
I honestly think this is the best acceptance speech I have ever seen. At least once a year I find myself looking it up, it was so memorable.
It is wonderful. If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend Steve Carell's acceptance speech at the Golden Globes (supposedly written by his wife)
James Cagney's speech was the best.
The Lonely Guy, is one that many haven’t heard of, and many need to see it, it’s incredible.
I think the comic genius bit went over a lot of people's heads in that room but that line was classic
+Reb Brown lol Did you see Conan's face when Steve gave that bit'? It went straight over his head and messed up his hair.
Looked more like Conan realized Steve was probably right.
It didn't make any sense. Would you care to explain?
@@tkjohn885 In the build up to the joke he lists a bunch of reasons why one might want to avoid going into the comedy business, and basically he's saying the smart people are the ones that avoid getting into comedy in the first place.

2:20 I think that maybe one of the few times I've seen Lorne laugh out loud.
Loved the last line
A comic genius is self explanatory.
Mel Brooks is adorable!!!!
If you are wondering about him thanking his wife, watch his Oscar speech
Steve has been around me my entire life. Thank god I'm younger than him.
Comedic genius.
Steve Martin is just
"Thanks for driving" LMAO!!
"What is a comedic genius?..." ... Ummm, he is standing to your right, Steve.

LOL! Conan didn't get the comic genius joke. He was like 'What's that now?'

I thought Steve’s wife was Tina Fey this whole time 😭
Why the hell Steve Martin's wife looks like Tina Fey?
I think Steve martins wife looks like Kristin Davis (sex in the city)
I see tina fey.
Just done a Wikipedia search
Steve Martin wins this award but
Quentin Tarantino or Oliver Stone have not
What the actual F U C K???

Interesting that he omitted Tina Fey from his speech. Maybe he didn't too much like the joke about his wife?

Always that Steve Martin was and is severely overrated.
