What do you guys think of the improvements and the M47? Also, I do believe these two missions and the M47 will eventually be taken out later. So do enjoy these missions while you can!
Absolutely gruesome! Especially when you keep in mind that such a scenario could had been possible (there was an intermediate time when west Germany already got more potent Patton, Pershing tanks and east Germany didn't get their T-54s yet IIRC).
West germany got the M47 at the same time East germany got their T-54s (1956) but they still used the T-34-85 so such a scenario is still possible. I hope that in the future we may see a more serious mission with the T-54 against the M48 patton III, would be an interesting matchup. They could even give the T-54s vertical stabilizers, would be the only one of its kind in the game.
I barely scrapped a win in this mission. The M-47 has a turret front with 200mm armor which is double what the Panther had. The only viable option for the T-34/85 is to aim for the hull and score side shots. A lot of GHPC missions have you going hey, diddle, diddle and right up the middle. Which will lead to you getting massacred under almost virtually all circumstances. Pushing the flanks probably would have spared you some pain. Dropping smoke on the M047s could have also allowed you to get closer where your guns have some chance. Like me you ended up in a lot of head on fights and that just isn't going to work with this match-up.
I think the developer's need to leave this mission in game - its a great "teachable moment" - illustrating the changes in tank eras and how far things have come. Not too long ago I was able to use the game's firing range to explain different types of sighting systems.
I wonder how hard would be to mate 85mm BK-2M or BK-7 HEAT rounds to 85mm case from S-53 gun? I know Yugos were manufacturing such frankenshells, to make ammo for their ex-German guns.
West Germans should definitely get the M48A2GA2s as a T-55 equivalent, considering West Germany obtained a buttload of them. They only retired them from service in the 90s, and even Taiwan is using them till now.
Man, I hate-love the M47. The turret is so werid and ugly but kinda dig it

Interesting that they modeled the Bow Gunners MG, then didnt add the Bow Gunner and then did not add the Munitions storage the Bundeswehr put there in place of the Bow Gunner.
The M47 is unfinished, and it isn't even driveable in-game yet. Seems the devs wanted it out for the April Fools event. The T34-85 has actually been in the game since 2021, it's more finished. They'll likely get around to finishing the former if they decide to integrate the two vehicles as a serious part of normal gameplay.
@@Pershingtank If it does, it'll likely be after the devs have released at least one of the Leopard variants, and I imagine the M47's main use in-game will be as reserve tanks when you're suffering heavy losses in Campaign mode. T 34 are good tanks but their era has passed. Even from the 1950s to the early 1960s, there is no longer efficient armor against ammunition of the time. The Americans have to launch the M60 as quickly as possible.
I struggled a lot on this mission as well, took me several tries. The T34-85 just isn't competitive with the M47 and really struggles to pen its front glacis and turret. The PT-76 actually does a bit better against the M47, particularly with HEAT rounds, but you'll likely loose both vehicles on first contact every time. You have to rely on strategy to win the day. Use the shit outta of your call-ins, blanket known positions with artillery and use the smokes to obscure obvious sight lines. Then, while the rest of the platoons shred themselves in a head-on attack, flank north and strike from the east, or even from behind the enemies' front. Hit their sides or rears. Use hull-down positions as much as you can. Don't try to take the objective until you know you've taken out most of the defending tanks surrounding it, then bomb the hell out of that town with arty before sweeping in and mopping up survivors at close range.
