Night fighting with T80B 1: zero range 2: center hold chevron over target, laze. 3: manually select range to closest hundred meter increment, and hold slightly over or under center mass accordingly (hold over for round down, hold under for round up) 4: profit.
GTD-1000TF came out far later. The engines can run on a lot of fuels including commercial diesel but more commonly on marine diesel, which is a lot cheaper than commercial diesel. It's literally in the name.
You forgot to mention a very important aspect of the fcs:it does not account for vertical lead. If a tank is moving down a steep slope you won't be able to correctly lead it. The Abrams fcs is far superior due to this. If you want to visualize it, find a steep hill follow an imaginary target driving down the hill in a diagonal path with the fcs and fire. You will see that the dcs will only apply lead in the horizontal. Do the same on an Abrams, for example in the scenario "bold limit" and you will see that the Abrams has no issues with this.
while the graphics and models are already the best in a tank sim, i wish they would be even more high polygon. like those round surfaces on the barrels, light shrouds, etc are still jagged and angular. even in steel beast, the poly count on tanks is higher, especially in commander mode with the hatches unbuttoned you can see how rounded the lip of the hatches are. in this game they are square and angular, not radiused enough
Well.... It can't really. If you hit the turret a little above or below the composite arrays the m833 will go clean through even at 2500 meters. You can't rely on your armor against m833 at all. Against tows or older apfsds the armor is quite reliable.
Gas turbines are called that not because they ran on gas, but because they use hot gas turbines. They can run on anything actually, diesel, jet fuel, seed oil, petrol, etc. Anything that burns. Their problem is that they consume a ton of fuel to idle
Superb vid. I realised how much I needed to play SABOW and SF:Kharkov 1942 again, for troops! GHPC is just so sterile without infantry attacking trenches, using RPGs, grenades. Shame it will never happen
"Shame it will never happen"... Nope. Infantry models are still in the works. I also highly recommend Steel Beast for more of a complete sim and for those pesky infantry rpg teams.
Not sure if it was choice of words, but you said that the sg-1000 was controversial because it used gas instead of diesel. But the engine ran on the standard diesel as well as jet fuel, and of course could also run on gasoline. I have not read anything on them requiring gasoline, and the controversy comes just from the higher diesel fuel consumption that the gas turbine has over the piston diesel.
The first T-80 series used GTD‑1000TF gas turbine engines, which is what I said. From what I read and understood, they decided to go with gas instead of the traditional diesel like the other T-series tanks. It was first rejected because of its high consumption rate until a new leadership change happened.
@PhanPhantasy That's what I thought. It was just the choice of words. Saying "because it used gas instead of diesel" it sounds like your describing the fuel being used as opposed to the engine type.
@@PhanPhantasy Just did a quick read on the GHPC website, and it did mention about the alleged delay. However, it was talking about a delay for giving a ballistic solution, not a delay for the rangefinder to give the range. With that said, it's just a trivial mistake.

Gas turbines can run on diesel. Basically any fuel that can be atomized into a fine aerosol can be used in gas turbines. That's their advantage. BUT yes, the maintenance is a nightmare.

You can set a battlesight range of 800m for HE and HEAT and 1200m for APFSDS. This also applies to the T-55A, T-62, and the T-80B's night sight.
