I’ve always had a problem with spiders until I saw these videos, just yours, not anyone else. My attitude changed. I had a spider make a nest in the window of my kitchen. She was there about four months. I loved her like a pet. She even got used to me. This would never have happen pre Beasties. Thank you!

Dave, your explainations are really great. You talk through the whole video but its so much interesting stuff! So many people talk in their videos just to say something; after one of your videos I always know a bit more about spiders and their needs. I also enjoy watching you handle those animals with so much care. Sometimes I like to think they somehow know or at least feel that they are in good hands; even if some of them are very fast and dangerous, they all behave very well when you handle them.
I showed some of your videos to my friend who is very scared of spiders and she can watch them without getting spooked too much; that says a lot about your presentation.

Hi Dave and Camera Lady 💙💕🕷️ hope you’re having a great day.
I always laugh when you say, when the spiders can’t see you, you can’t see them 😂😂
The spinnerets are really quite large on the funnel web spiders aren’t they!? The wee abdomen are a lovely design on your slings too.
They’re super fast… and you are correct Dave… they aren’t my cup of tea and I don’t like tea 😂 😂
Nevertheless I was glued to my phone screen and your video as normal!
Guess what I’m getting this Friday evening?? I’m gonna be a Tarantula Mummy… to my very own Mexican Red Knee! 😊😊🕷️
Hope you’re better soon Dave 😊

To be perfectly honest, I think that this is probably the best model when it comes to buying exotic pets. You've got a breeding program combined with the videos that give the buyers a lot of in depth practical advice on how to care for and house the animals, like putting some moss in the container to give them somewhere to run to other than straight back out of the container. If you compare that situation to going to a pet shop and getting almost no advice at all it just makes a lot more sense.

The fact that breeding doesn't go well if two of the same species of Japanese funnel web spiders aren't from the same area seems very odd, and very interesting to me. Seems to be an oddity from the animal/insect kingdom! Usually the other way around due to the fact of inbreeding. Awesome little tidbit there!!!

I always thought M gigas are all endemic to the same mountain region in Japan. They are all connected. With the exception of only one locality that’s from the same region but the mountain where it is found isn’t connected. It’s a more brighter vibrant variation.

@@daveslittlebeasties so after a bit of looking into this these. I believe your juvenile M gigas could actually be macrothele hungae which actually reach a larger size than gigas. They were once considered the same species as gigas but reclassified in 2021. True gigas have larger fang proportions . They also have a more stout thicker looking legs and lack the stripe marking on the abdomens.
