Make Your Favorite Gloves Work With a Touchscreen!

  • Gloves do a great job of keeping your hands warm, but they also come between your finger and your smartphone. Most touchscreens sense your touch by your body's natural electrical current, and the gloves block that current. You can fix that by getting some conductive thread, and sewing a patch into the fingertips of your favorite gloves. It's fast, cheap, and super easy!

    Not such a good idea to do to your work gloves if you are an electrician. :P

    Wouldn't this scratch the screen?

      No, that is why you use conductive thread, not just thin wire.

      Glass is actually very hard, especially gorilla glass. It is difficult to scratch gorilla glass even with the tip of a knife.

      James Rowland Not all screens are Gorilla Glass. On some cheaper phones it is not even glass, but polycarbonate with a screen protector film on it.

    Wouldn't the wire be uncomfortable inside the glove? Not to mention it doesn't look good at all. I feel like I just watched perfectly good gloves get destroyed.

    • @ShannonMorse
      @ShannonMorse 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Not at all. Tie the end inside close to the stitching and just cut off the excess. Once you put on the gloves, the wire isn't apparent.

      DDN is like a death sentence for most of the networks they buy out. Most of the good talent that were there before DDN came along end up leaving not sure if getting fired or just leave on their own. Shows that were popular get canceled. Rev3 is just a shell of it's former self now just waiting for the same to happen to Sourcefed and ScrewAttack then DDN will have sucessfully killed 3 of the bigger networks I watch on youtube and the net.

    I feel for Michael and Patrick, Its a passing to be sure. I'm already missing their quirky relationship. Somehow I can't see Shannon (or any other current member of the show) changing the oil sump filter on an old Volvo or re-lining the back of their pickup truck. At the moment, this just feels like Tekzilla with plaid shirts. Time will tell.

    I'm sorry to say, but this is a terrible idea.
    It's cool that you can use your gloves with your touch screen, but putting metal against your skin when it's cold out is not something you want to do. At least if it is really cold (like below freezing). And even if it isn't super cold, doing this WILL make the gloves considerably less effective at warming your hands.

    Or just buy a Samsung phone like the Note 3 or above. It has increased sensitivity for glove scenarios. I tested it myself and it works.

    • @anonmiss2112
      @anonmiss2112 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Its alright but having conductive gloves does help. I also have the note 3 with increased sensitivity on. I just find that it doesn't always pick up and sometimes because of the larger surface area made by the glove it doesn't pick up the right letter when texting. Maybe if they made gloves with tips added to them like mini styluses on the fingers it would be better. Like small finger pads like the pads on a cats paw.

    • @OvyGr
      @OvyGr 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      You're partially right. Pressing with just any part of the finger doesn't work on Note 3. For example it doesn't work on all gloves pressing with the nail part of the finger or trying to press perpendicular on the screen. But using the part of the finger that was used even in this video that is more parallel with the screen works with all sort of gloves, even the thicker sporty ones. I tested this feature myself on all of my gloves. So I'd rather not have to sew metal on them... plus the Note is a cool device that also has an Spen like no other found on smartphones.
