      Philip Chidi-Njemanze I don't think you'll find any Iphone app with as much functionality as Tasker, IOS just doesn't give the freedom that android does.

      NotAName A jailbroken iphone is quite different from a jailed one, anyone using it will say the same. It's just the location based functions I couldn't do with my 4S. There's probably gonna a similar app for that soon:D. I hate iOS8 tho:'(

    Limiting yourselves to just phones. You can do anything with tasker. I use tasker to start my entertainment center when I pull into the driveway. It also controls my lighting and starts one hell of a good cut of coffee for me in the morning. I know someone who went as far as making it start his car when he left his house.

      ***** Yes!! That is EXACTLY what I want my phone to do!!! START MY CAR!! Can you please tell me how your friend made Tasker do that for him??? I've been working with it and haven't had any luck. Please let me know.
      Thanks in advance!

      Scott Watkins seems that many people are using arduinos or raspberry pi to do the task. If you want an easy way look for VIPERS bluetooth Remote car starter. Once installed you can download Bluetooth Auto Connect from android market place and use the plugin in Tasker to force bluetooth on and find your Viper device and turn on. This may be the most expensive approach using tasker. You can also just use the software Viper offers. Hope this helps.

    • @brandondaniels9471
      @brandondaniels9471 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      DIY Tryin I just think about what I go through during the average day/week, and then I consider how my phone could help me with those activities. Essentially, I think it's mainly about integrating your phone into your daily life to help you with what you already do. How can my phone save me time during the day? How can it save me from having to push so many buttons throughout the day? How could it make my life more convenient? How can it make me more organized? How can it make me more productive? How can it make my day a little more enjoyable? I think it starts with those kinds of questions and with some "What if?" brainstorming.

    • @brandondaniels9471
      @brandondaniels9471 9 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      DIY Tryin One of the main considerations I tend to make is "What personal problems could it help me solve?" For instance, my schedule tends to be extremely unpredictable. Yet, I like to get my haircut at regular intervals throughout the year. But, the barber shop doesn't work by appointment (i.e., it's walkin only). As a result, I tend to forget the date of my previous cut, and it's always difficult to tell how many days actually go by from cut to cut. So, last night, I created a task that automatically logs my haircuts in my Google calendar as soon as I arrive at the barber shop. Now, I don't have to remember to manually log haircuts on my calendar. And, I'll always be able to count the days between cuts so that I can maintain a consistent haircut schedule.

    I created a work out routine, that when the voice command is said, my phone starts a timer for one hour, plays my music, and every 10 minutes I am notified with some encouraging words I set up, it also lets me know when the work out is almost over and when it's over.
    I have so many more ideas I love it.

    Taking a picture of someone who fails 3 password attempts is already a very very cool app. It's called Lockwatch. It emails you a picture, a time and location of where the attempt occurred. It also has paid options for detecting sim changes and recording audio.
    A friend of mine had his phone stolen from the gym, found the person who took it through the app info, gym security cameras, and gym membership details and was able to get it back. The guy who stole it owned up in face of the evidence and the whole thing was settled without police intervention, within a couple of days!

    Great intro to Tasker. My phone, I won't mention the brand name but it rhymes with blue, only allows for one audible notification when I receive a text. No flashing light. Nothing. I have one contact who will text me sometimes and if I am dead asleep, I do not notice it until much later. Could I get Tasker to audibly nag me until I respond/unlock? Thanks in advance for any help.

    DIY = DIE nice thinking.. For all those saying you knew about tasker from long ago please shut up because knowing about an app and knowing how to use it is two different things as I see many of you in the tasker Google + community asking annoying children questions on how to make profiles when there's a pretty great manual and tasker wiki to learn from, also I can't see much users purchasing a app with such a deep learning curve. All the profiles they demonstrate in this video are very basic ones and ones that all will like and want to do, but believe me, you don't need a high end device to use tasker but you will need battery as when you want to do advanced tasker profiles you will have to change the display off monitoring settings in tasker.. I own two smn9005's so I am nice for battery...

    A tip, for the wifi lock trick, if you hold down the condition, you can select exit task, and you can use your disable lock task for the exit task. That way you don't need a second task. Meanwhile my favorite task, I set my phone to car mode. And if anyone sends me a text it auto replies with a text and a maps link with my location if they are in my approved numbers. I also have a pebble with canvas for pebble (android only), and set my watch to go to a watchface when I start playing music using another app called Media utilities
    And last time I checked nothing lit on fire

    • @diytryin

      Love the auto reply task! I played around with exit tasks, but it was easier for me to wrap my head around having two separate tasks (in this case at least).

    I have a question. I'm trying to do two things at once on Tasker. But can't seem to get it. Ex. I want to run my brightness on high for 30 minutes.
    [ Easy. I just have to set brightness as action then time of 30minutes on profile. Then "Go Home" as my exit add on ]
    But then every five minutes I want to dim the light. Then after 5mins it return to the brightness set before.
    [ To do so I made another profile, input the exact similar time frame then set the every option to 5 minutes. ]
    However after dimming it won't go back to the original brightness...
    Can Help?!

    I've been watching your videos, and they are very well done. but I am finding it very frustrating because the current version is in many ways so different from what you are using. I was trying to follow along in your 3rd Tasker video about creating the macro to turn on the GPS without rooting, and got totally lost when my screen and options were nothing like what you are using (I'm running on a Galaxy S3)
    (frustration aside, your version is much prettier, too!)

      FYI, I told Abe Lincoln about Tasker back in the day. How do you think he was able to devise such great speeches?

    • @1DJLNR
      @1DJLNR 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Brandon Daniels Well that's the power of tasker, you just have to tell another android user about it especially if you know they are more than an average android user. I come from windows mobile 2003 so pre android birth or thought. Windows Mobile 7 came and just ruined it for win phones which as well stopped the use of the raw cab files which as I programmer my mouth drooped, so when I was messing with custom roms and running android off the sd card in my win phone it was like going back in time where as UI is concerned, I mean I knew eventually android would grow and be super in know time but it was a painful wait, I just about used the beta versions androids which some have tried to give names to, which at the time there was no name or hype so it's just BS if you hear some names flying around. That aside though I did see simple potential in cupcake wait.. wait... painful... wait.. then gingerbread landed wooo, ice cream straight after in know time because it seems many so called world wide Web so called tech geeks were too broke to purchase a tablet so honeycomb was in between the versions to perfect tablet slowly but surely because android knew apple and windows were already making from the get go all there apps versatile with ipads tablets and the mobile device versions to them. Mouthful but yep, Android is clearly the winner, I am not rich and so are millions of people but they still don't get it, they go around with an iPhone and can't even afford the rent each month and they holding onto something that is overpriced and holds it price, I always say it, there's no point looking rich around friends and circles then when everyone goes home your the only one who ain't going to a place where you can just about charge the iPhone lool. . Pointless starving and being cold for a device just to fit into a silly circle. Rotfl
