We watched this video, did some research and bought a Vitamix 3500. We no longer buy nut milk. We’ve made walnut and almond milk. Adding flavors like cinamon, dates, almond extract and coca powder so far has produced much much better results than store bought. The taste can’t compare. We discussed adding more water so it goes farther but haven’t yet. We took the leftover pulp and dehydrated it. The dried walnut pulp tasted like cookies. Now we have to find recipes for the dried nut flour. So happy we discovered Life Is No Yoke.
I just made my first milk (hazelnut) and I was blown away by how SIMPLE it was and how great it tastes, far different from what I usually buy. I always was concerned about the tricalcium phosphate and the gums in regular nut milk but didn't know how to avoid that. Now feel fooled for so many years, to be exact 11 years of my vegan lifestyle, oh dear Odin. Thanks again for opening my mind
It is SOOO easy to make your own almond milk. Totally optional, but try mixing a Brazil nut or other nuts in with it. I just bought the a3500 and it is amazing!
wow thank you so much im a big Almond milk buyer I've also worked inside a factory where they actually make this stuff its kinda of nasty how they bring big semi trucks tank with big water hoses extract them to there big tanks its crazy but hey ill for sure try making almond milk from scratch! thanks again.
Where did he get his info? I watched a mom and pop place make a jar of almond milk and it took one cup of almonds to three cups of water. So how are there only 8 almonds in a half gallon of store bought?
The store bought almond milk might not be as good as a homemade one but is way better than the cow milk from the grocery store so I don’t feel that bad when I drink it
How very disappointing, as being lactose intolerant to whole cow's milk is what drove me to drink almond milk in the first place! Yet, on a brighter note, you helped me make a very important decision to start making my own Almond Milk! Thanks for the heads up! The video was simple and to the point!
I love your channel! Since subscribing, I have enjoyed each video I have watched. Thanks so much for this one. You guys rock! I'm 68 yo; my children told me to use those words when I am leaving comments for younger people. It's all good because I even know what it means and you do rock 😄...just sayin'
How did you calculate how many almonds were in each carton? I love the video and after watching, blended my own milk (a bit grainy without straining it)
Hey I’m just wondering, is there any almond milk that you would recommend from the store? I just go through so much almond milk about a carton a day lol. Any recommendations??? Thanks !
I switched to nut milks about a year ago and after trying a few different ones decided to try make it myself just for fun.... I haven't bought any since, all homemade from then on, I do recommend investing in a good high powered blender though
I’ve been drinking store-bought almond milk (the $5 kind 😭) every day for years. I use it only for my protein shakes. I am just now realizing how cheap and easy it is to make my own almond milk… 😭 Thank you!
Almonds aplenty here in sunny California! Yum. Cashew milk is extremely easy though, don't even have to soak up the cashews overnight. However, I do break out every time I consume it though so I just buy soy or oat milk, even though I'm sure the latter would be easy too, just not as easy.
I've been drinking almond milk for 12 years now and love it but learned that there are only about 3 almonds in 8 ounces and it takes 1.5 gallons of water to grow one almond. That's rediculous. I need to switch.
My son just asked me “ can I start drinking almond milk and is it just as bad as cow milk?” I told him I didn’t know and I immediately looked this up. Thanks for the video.❤
@lifeisnoyoke I bought a Vitamix A3500 after watching a bunch of your videos. I made almond milk for the first time yesterday and it tasted…...grassy. I can’t describe it any better. I soaked 1 cup of raw almonds in purified water for 6 to 8 hours in the fridge, used about 2 1/2 - 3 cups of purified water and the Vitamix app setting for nut milk. Strained and chilled. Without any sweetener it tasted almost like grass. No nutty or almond flavor as expected. I don’t eat sugar, so I used a bit of SF vanilla syrup and it did mask the grassy flavor but I expected it to taste better plain. I don’t know if it was the brand of almonds I used (Walmart), soaking time, my taste buds or is this the way homemade almond milk is supposed to taste? I’m about to try another batch. I soaked one cup of almonds in purified water at room temp with a squeeze of lemon juice and a pinch of salt. It’s almost 24 hours and they’ve nearly doubled in volume compared to the first batch. How critical is soaking temperature, time and/or adding lemon juice/salt to the flavor?
@Lifeisnoyoke I made another batch yesterday from the almonds I soaked for 24 hours. They were incredibly plump and made even creamier milk even though I used more water. BUT it still tasted...green (not nutty or almondy). I am now wondering if it's the source (the almonds themselves). I added some Skinny Girl SF vanilla syrup so I can drink it but I was really hoping it would taste good plain. my cost: one cup of almonds (6 oz) yielded 32 oz of almond milk = $1.77/quart
@@LINY it WAS the nuts. I don't know if it was because the nuts I used today were blanched, fresher or it was just the source of the nuts, but the almond milk I just made tastes exactly what I expected it to taste like...smooth, creamy and mildly nutty/almond flavor. I also noticed that the pulp left behind was a different texture than when using the raw unblanched almonds. I am in an AirBNB until my new house is ready and I don't have my supplies, so I used a bandana to strain instead of a nut milk bag.
Wow very informative. I just bought a half gal of blue diamond almond milk bc the stores were out of real milk due to corona virus. It's actually not bad (bought the unsweetened) but yea paid about $4 for I guess 6 almonds worth of milk LOL. If I want more almond milk I think I will make my own. Thanks for the tips.
Very interesting stuff. Sometimes it seems that buying unprocessed/raw almonds are more expensive than a carton. Your thoughts? By the way, can you compare all of the brands to see which ones are the least process. I found a brand called "MALT" that is about 5 bucks for a small container with a few ingredients: Filtered Water, Organic Sprouted Almonds, Himalayan Salt.
@@LINY By the way, I just found that Trader Joe's currently carry "Almond Beverage" (aka milk) that only has only almond and water - no salt or oil or any other items.
Almond milk IS ridiculously good. What's more ridiculous is that I buy the "good stuff" at the drop of a hat when I have tons of almonds in my pantry that I crawl through while my Vitamix gathers dust; I'm pretty sure I have had an unopened nutmilk bag for years too. 🙃 I don't see why (typically big dairy owned) almond milk manufacturers get thrown under the bus while simultaneously "milking" the consumer for a dilute "milk alternative." Okay I'm nuts. 😆 Thanks for the info and inspiration!
Never bought any almond milk. Whenever a recipe calls for almond milk we always add that amount in water and throw in a good handful of raw almonds. Results are great. Would they have been better with “real” almond milk? Doubtful.
This is such a great & informative video! We love homemade almond milk! We'd love to send you our Bigger Better Nut Milk Bag to use while making your homemade milk.
I drink silk almond milk. To be honest I used to hate Almond milk then last year I drank it. After watching the game changers I kicked cows milk to the curb. I sure to pick a lot of almond milk out. Then I went for the silk Almond milk I watched The Game Changers then looked up Arnold Schwarzenegger. It said he drinks almond milk to power him through the day. I feel much with almond milk then with cows milk. Some cows milk can lead to leaky gut. I get silk unsweet and unflavored almond milk I don't think it needs sugar or flavor to taste good.
Have you fully transitioned to only homemade almond milk and did it increase the flavor of the existing recipes you used the store bought almond milk in?
great question. we haven't fully transitioned at all. we still buy store-bought out of habit and because it's a battle I don't want to fight with Shalva. :)
