Mindblowing. Very similar to my “mystery CFS/FMS”. Ferritin of average 30 and less for a decade. You are my hero right now. You have changed MY WORLD ❤️
@@manonmpelletier I don't believe CFS is a thing. The reason being it is a diagnosis by elimination, no test and so it's guess work...does that makes sense? How many people especially women are suffering with this and sadly Doctors are missing it. Not their fault but the system of numbers and guidelines being too wide. Please write to info@theironclinic.co.uk send in your bloods and symptoms 🙏 Please keep me informed how you get on. I wouldn't be better and off all my medication if it were not fir the specialists there. Xxx
Hi Sally, I've just found your channel and was wondering if the test done privately with www.forthwithlife.co.uk will still offer me the guidelines as per the Iron Clinic and also if it was still ok for me to send these into Dr. Caitlin Scott?? I was diagnosed as anemic in 2019 Ferritin was 7.8 the doctor gave me iron tablets for six months taking my ferritin levels to 34.8. I had my ferritin levels checked last month and it was at 31.4 and I was told it is normal. I have a lot of the symptoms you talk about; especially anxiety. I do believe Ive been suffering with this for a very long time as I have lost a lot of hair especially within the last 4 years, its the worst its been. I know becoming vegan is what caused my anemia because I was not well informed but I believe I already was iron deficient prior. Im just hoping for some guidance, I think its amazing what you are doing a lot of people wouldn't go to all this trouble to help others. Your videos have given me hope.
I have had low iron MY WHOLE LIFE! But because my ferritin was always between 14-30 upon testing(i was taking 150mg iron every day for years, and it still stayed that low, it bever worked to take iron) , it was never took serious. I am 34 yo now, and I have been on disability all my life , no education, obese, exhausted. I finally took a look at the tests myself, and saw the pattern. I am having my first infusion on Monday, hope is the path to recovery.
My goodness, how awful for you. This is just like so many others I hear from. But I'm absolutely thrilled you're having an infusion . It's not guaranteed it will work, however, if it does then it will be awesome for you. Please let me know how you get on. I'm so excited for you xxx
The supplements we take some work very slowly and there’s these specific ones that I’ve recently heard of after doing all my research on the internet they are called restore heme plus sold by a company called 3 arrows created or founded by a lady called Krystal who survived anemia. I’ve ordered mine a week ago I’m waiting for them to arrive as they were currently out of stock but by the reviews I’m hoping they will be my answered prayer.
I had an intra cellular nutrient test...it shows levels inside your cells not just outside.. I'm extremely low in iron and have felt so tired and mentally slow most of my life. Other tests came back normal...I'm on iron and calcium and am feeling better then average after 2 weeks. Good luck
I went through this at 18, every symptom, hot flushes, hair loss, breathless, heart palpitations, I thought I was falling apart at the seems, the anxiety and fatigue was horrific, I lived at the doctors just like you, everyone just thought I was being a hypercondriact. I stayed inside for 9 months ! Since then I’ve had 3 iron infusions, currently 9 months pregnant and just had another, wouldn’t wish low iron on anyone !
I’m going through most of those right now after giving birth 3 months ago , I keep telling my family I don’t feel like myself anymore it really does something to you and changes you .. I wouldn’t wish this on anyone either it’s no joke !
God Bless you Sally! Your message has been delivered! 9 years of depression and bipolar and heart disease have ended with iron levels lower than 8 (28-326). God have given me my life back We all need to take our health in our own hands
Gosh!!! That's a fabulous message. Firstly, I'm so thrilled you gave got your life back. Can I just check... Did you check these levels out after you watched the vlog? Just wanted to get this correct? X
@@SallyJacksTVMum hello maam my sister has ferritin level 6 and she has pcos too. She is having mood disturbances and not at all concerned about her studies. We all are worried about her. Please suggest me some solutions. I look forward to hearing from you soon. God bless you.
Iron can causes a cascade effect with the thyroid too. That was me. Weakness, fatigue, imbalances in mood, infections, hair loss, anxiety, constant bleeding for months, sweats, etc etc So happy you’re doing well again!!💗💓
This is me. I have constant low ferritin, low thyroid, hair loss, cold feet hands, depression, pale skin, sleep problems, now found out i have Sibo can this cause low iron?? I am allways bloating and constipation/dhiarhea..its been awfull no doctor help me
Yeah, immune system wacky, all these symptoms and no Dr around to be concerned! Took me 2 years to get my hydrochlorothiazide and then she didn't want to give it to me cuz my blood pressure was fine, it also works with edema. I'm like Sally was, but I've been losing weight, not gaining! When I lost my house, I quit the sugar, the soda drinks and most grains because my thyroid; no TV for 13 years thought I was doing fine but I can't see how I'm living, I need an Iron Infusion myself... yaw pray for me, next week I'm going to go try to hit the Social Security office up for some of my strawman money!!!
@@gigafia5358 me2! Dr Eric Berg!!!! The best, take 1tbs each of ACV, LEMON AND OLIVE OIL. I am FINALLY getting answers and started blood transfusions and iron infusions every week for 4 weeks. Listening to your story has me in tears. Everything you went through is a literal MIRROR of the last 18 months of my existence. I swore everything was bc I suddenly lost my mom passed away on Christmas eve night of 2019 of heart failure. I thought I was going crazy and I thought the depression and anxiety was going to kill me. I have never heard a life story that's exactly what happened to me in exact order and it started after my mom left me. I want to thank you for existing and telling your story. I have been going through info and I literally found my story that someone else lived as well. I thank God that I found this. I have a 17yr old son and a 10yr old girl and I just want them to have the ME they had back. Omg Im a blubbering mess. Thank you so much 💓
😭that's exactly how I felt I'm going through it in it now giving me the run around n I can barely get out of bed that's not me it's 5 years since they found out I was low iron n severe ANEMIC kept me in for a week but I'm tossed back n forth from all kinds of iron pills can't keep them down three up all so I think after 5 years someone shoukdgiven me a iron transfusion my god help me now I can't live like this I want to be myself again god bless 🌲🌲🌲❣️
Me too! I have no children but took iron tablets for years and it was only when I started getting lightheaded and short of breath that the GP started taking it seriously. I am now at 45+ iron infusions and feel like myself but can’t hold on to the iron so exploring other options… sigh. Hope you are on be mend too ❤
It has taken over my life since 1982 when I had my first child 41 yrs ago. I just figured this out after seeing my low ferritin levels. All these years I've been told that nothing is wrong. I'm 66 yrs old and have missed out on so much. I just started taking iron today, so hope I can recover. Yes, we need to get the word out.
Hi, I'm 65 and I think I have probably been deficient most of my life. It just come to a head in the last few years and the last few months I've been dreadful. How are you feeling now?
Oh…that is me!! I am 65 and have been suffering since my first child. I’ve been to so many doctors and they all say I’m normal. I went to a neurologist because I had an MCI diagnosis along with my fatigue. He gave me an iron test, but it was normal, but he said it was in the low range so he has started me on sulfate something. I am hoping that this is the problem, but I had hoped that when I heard I was vitamin D deficient and I finished my treatment and I’m not really feeling all that much better.
Hello I'm 12 years old . This truly inspired me I'm only 9 years old when these anemia symptoms started appearing to me . I have been keeping it to me for 2 years until I decided to go to the doctors with my parents. I started feeling better knowing what really is the problem with me because in that way I am able to know and learn what I need to do to be able to fight this problem within my body. I like reading comments with these videos because it can help me understand that it is not just me having a hard time with the same concerns. To anemia patients stay strong and positive !❤️
Bless your heart and soul for sharing your story Sally. I have been suffering many of the same symptoms you have for months now. I just got my blood work results and my ferritin level is a 9. I am seeing my doctor today to sort out what we can do about it. It has been a vicious cycle. Beating myself up for eating too much sugar and not keeping up with my usual physicality resulting in weight gain. I am now post-menopausal and on hormones but it didn’t solve the inner furnace I’ve been living with for 3 years. I can only be comfortable when the temperature at home is 65 degrees or less. My heart hurts hearing you share about the unnecessary suffering you had to go through. Thank you for turning your pain into purpose which has really helped me today! Blessings
It’s been a long journey. I suffered mild heart failure as a result of iron deficiency. The mental health symptoms caused me to delay getting help as I believed the way I was feeling was a result of laziness and weight gain. Typical symptoms of depression. I am doing well now. Working out and eating well. Awareness way key! Thank you for creating awareness.
I just wanted to say Thank you for making people aware of this issue. If it wasn't for seeing your video I would have continued to feel like some crazy chick. I am currently suffering from severe iron deficiency, anemia and now vitamins d deficiency. I have been fighting the GP for over 16months. Had to leave work and it's affected my life so much. GPS have no sympathy and I thank you that your making this subject topic public. Your story gives me hope that I won't continually be like this. Thank you Sally and God bless you 💕
You are very welcome. This is the reason I am doing this, as I feel no one should suffer. I cannot tell you the hundreds of messages I receive from women suffering link you are and I did. Please email the info@theironclinic.co.uk with bloods and symptons for their advice. Xx
Hi Sally. I am so happy that I found your videos. I live in the US. I have been anemic since i was 15. I have always had heavy menstruation and some anxiety. Recently i had become extremely ill. Fatigue, shortness of breathe, body aches, head aches, burning tongue, brain fog and the worst anxiety and panic i have ever experienced. Went to see the ear nose and throat doctor for my burning tongue. He did a bunch of blood work and called me very alarmed. My Ferritin is at a 2 and my Iron at a 7.4. It has come down to me needing iron infusions. I thought i was alone in this but i have found that many women suffer with this. Thank you for bringing awareness to this. ❤
There are so many people that are going undiagnosed with this itnisnscary. It is a world wide problem. I'm songlad it has eventually been picked up on. You want your ferriti ideally at 100 for optimum. 50 is only classed as basic. Please check your b12, vit d and folate to. Keep.me posted, all the best. Xx
Thank you Sally so much for this video. I actually got very emotional watching as I know how difficult it is to get to the bottom of it. I Have had iron problems in the past and now seems like it's happening again. The video explains exactly what I have been going through going absolutely crazy and having antidepressants .Its just unbelievable how many I had to battle with doctors just to make myself feel like bit better. I can't count how many symptoms I have on daily basis and the thing is I thought its my mental health and could not see a link with iron. Thank you again for sharing your story.I actually ordered a blood test online privately as I can't afford to wait for nhs appt which is middle of next month. Its crazy, I don't know how anybody would wait and cope with neurological symptoms including head aches or severe brain fog.I am 40 and its almost embarrassing not being able to remember things or conversations.
Thank you Sally! I just got tested at a functional medicine doctor and he ran a blood test and found that I was iron deficient along with b vitamins as well. I started losing my hair in 2019 and just associated it with stress and trauma that I had gone through that year. I couldn't sleep well, didn't want to go out, my skin was very dry and thin and and I suffered from depression when it got super bad. Im so glad I got tested. Thank you for spreading awareness ❤ 🙏.
You're very welcome, I hope they sorry it. Your body is under stress when deficient so any more normal.everyday stress can push you over the edge as your body has too much stress, does that make sense? Xxx
I am in shock about the absolute negligence of your doctors. What on earth is WRONG with those people? Do they not have any training at all? I've suffered iron deficiency anemia on and off for the last 20 years. The iron is the first thing my doctors always checked! I've gotten more IV iron infusions over the years than I can count. My ferritin has been as low as 3! My hemoglobin routinely goes down to 7. It's just unbelievable that your doctors didn't think of this. Seriously, I can't believe it.
I'm.in the exact position. Now my brain hog has got me in a mental state of adhd syndrome My ferritin over the last 15vyears has me er bern above 28.the life I have isdeplelted and my god this is such a breath of fresh air I have periods that lsst weeks and blood clots as big as my hand..yet still.my doctors dont give a toss. The last blood clot looked like a liver from.a vow it wad so big...help!!!!!😭😭😭😭😭
@@SallyJacksTVMum It's great that you are doing better. I have a question about iron transfusions. Are they needed for the rest of a person's life or do people eventually get well enough to no longer need iron transfusions?
@@penny5556 yes, it could all be down to iron deficiency. You would need to speak with your doctor, go on iron tablets or have an iron infusion and then see if your symptoms clear. Tablets will take time.
Yes it can. I'm about to lose a job I love that I have had for 11 years because I can't function right now. My brain is not working right, I have no energy (it's a job interacting with the public) and my anxiety is so crazy it feels like I'm constantly in panic mode. It's so distressing. I have iron infusions scheduled next month, but my work wants me back before then , I have been on medical leave. My life is falling apart.
I reported extreme fatigue to my Dr. He had no guess as to what was causing it. My ferritin was 31-34. I have been as low as 5. I figured things out on my own. This issue is very much overlooked!
Very overlooked I had to beg my doctors to look at my blood early while pregnant they could only focus on the fact I was 40 and pregnant not my anemia and I had such a better pregnancy and after that with mood bc of the early transfusions
I’m so thankful for this video. I’ve been feeling all of these symptoms for yrs. as of recently I’ve been losing my hair and my nails are so brittle they split and hurt. Docs always say that I’m fine and to see a dermatologist about my nails. I finally asked to have my iron checked and I got my results today. My ferritin is 8.5 right now. I just started liquid iron today. I pray I feel better soon. A little over a yr ago I started having panic attacks. I’m just not physically well since having my son. He’s 7 now. Thanks to this video and your advice going to have him checked as well. I had no idea I could pass it to him 😢 thank you so much. I’m glad you’re better now 👏🏻
It will take around a year to build you back up. The best thing is to speak to info@theironclinic.co.uk they are the leaders in this and helped me. They will talk you through your options. The best thing is an infusion. Xx
Thank you for what you are doing. I felt little hope when seeing your videos about iron deficiency. I am in a very dark place right now, and I feel hopeless. Doctors in my country are even more ignorant when it comes to vitamins deficiencies. My ferritin is so low and no doctor is believing me and my symptoms. They are saying “it’s all in your head”.. I am also b12 deficient. I feel like I am losing myself
I'm so sorry about this. I know it is easy for me to say, but is there somewhere you can have an infusion privately? Like I did, but obviously they need to be trained Doctor. Also b12 injections? Love Sally xxx
I'm so glad you spoke about burning up with anemia because everyone associates it just with feeling cold otherwise its not anemia but i'm anemic and have been burning .. like my skin just feels like its on fire all the time and I think people need to know how this illness can present in so many different ways.
@Alondra Rodriguez I have Erythromelalgia this statement from you makes me think you have Erythromelalgia. Usually effects feet but can also effect hands, ears, nose. Burning and turn bright red. It’s awful.
Hi, I hope someone sees this. My iron levels are 7 and I have felt horrific for afew years, last few months awful hair loss and just feel a shell of myself. I had an iron infusion almost a week ago (ferinject) and feel horrific, flu symptoms, dizzy, fever, spaced out. I start my new job in two days hoping I feel better by then. Although I do look like I’ve been on holiday! It’s so good to hear someone else’s story, honestly thought I was going mad!
Wow you sound exactly like me. The being tanned was such a great side effect, but I had no idea that would happen until I rung the clinic....so strange but great at rhe same time. How you feeling now? X
@@SallyJacksTVMum The tan is defo a great side affect, I went from looking like a snowman to glowing like the sun! I went out for my first walk today , felt slightly weird and breathless at first but I think it’s helped. I’m hoping to start feeling more like my age of 32 instead of 72! What are normal ferritin levels supposed to be? No doctor has gave me the answer to this x
Thank you. It is not their faults, they have so much to learn. But yes you are right, they need this in their training, but help when reading with better guidelines. Xxx
Oh my goodness. Thank you so much. I have been through all of these things with a ferritin level of 6. I had 2 iron infusions in the last 4 weeks and am still struggling. This video gives me so much hope ❤
Wow! I am so moved by your story. I had a related experience with iron deficiency anaemia and it was blamed on ethnicity genetics. I am fully recovered now and writing a book about it. It will be nice to meet up with you, Kelly. Regards
Thank you for being courageous and sharing your story. I identified immediately when you said if someone bought you a ticket to fly around the world - you couldn’t go. I feel the same. The NHS didn’t even flag my ferritin at 12. Now I decided to go to a private consultation for a hernia op. He told me he wouldn’t do the operation until I had an iron infusion! I never even knew. Just waiting now. Hope it works as I have felt awful for 18 months. Thank you again xx
Mine is 12 and the doctor said that's fine. I have felt dreadful for years but it has gone to a new level recently. I'm very teary and that is not like me.
Sally- Thank you for sharing your story! I have felt these symptoms off and on since the birth of my son. He is 12 now. My journey sounds much like yours, more doctors than I can count. I went back through my last lab work up done by my most recent dr. My ferritin is noted as
I feel so blessed to have found your videos!! I have a similar journey to you and am finally in the hands of a hematologist after my platelets were elevated. She just ordered bloodwork to have my iron checked after of course everyone else missed it. She told me the #1 cause for elevated platelets were low iron! I can't wait to have my bloodwork done and hope they can find an issue if not I'll pursue on like you and do more supplements. Thank you so much for all that you do to help others doctors really don't get it. After years of severe mental bleeding and being a vegetarian since I was 5 that should have set off an alarm bell for them along with my symptoms.
Absolutely you've hit the nail on the head, but im still scratching my head asking why are we not training the Doctors better. Why are these guidleinea too wide? I hope you managed to feel better now you know and they give you the correct treatment. Xxx
I can't believe how long you were sick for. It's painful to hear your story, and I'm so glad you're speaking out on this issue that affects SO many women! I developed really bad symptoms back in March 2020, and I'd been feeling absolutely dreadful for at least a year (ALL the symptoms) and was SO lucky that my doctor knew that my ferritin of 29 was the cause, but he wasn't great with advice on supplementation diet etc.. I went to a dietician and natural path and with their help I'm feeling like myself a year later (really hard to get infusion where I live in Canada). I realize now that I had likely been deficient to some degree for decades. I've had symptoms on and off - like random night sweats, anxiety, nail and hair issues, sleep trouble (restless leg!) being cold and exhaustion. I tell every woman who'll listen about Ferritin, emailed dieting and calorie counting apps (that target women!) that don't track or emphasis iron in their programs, emailed my meal kit company to say they need to add iron to their nutrition info for their meals, and generally shove the info at anyone willing to listen. Your videos were so informative and so helpful in those first months when I was trying to learn as much as I could! Keep up the fight, you are making a difference!
Bless you and thank you for writing this. Amazing news it was spotted so quickly by your GP. But I hear you aswell, as I feel I was suffering before my pregnancy aswell, although not as bad, so ferritin must have been slightly higher and then the pregnancy mist have plummeted me. So glad you scream it from the roof tops!!!! Lots of love Sally x
My ferritin is 8 as well . My symptoms are so bad and have been since after child birth of my youngest son 23 years . I now will check my mum and see how her ferritin levels are . Thank you for sharing . I wish I could hug ya!! Just for letting me know Wtf is wrong with me!! Love to ya ! Thank you !
Wow thank you for sharing I have been having symptoms of severe migraines dizziness fatigue joint pain ringing in my ears since my last child 5 years ago and I was never checked for ferritin levels!! I felt horrible 4 months ago I could barely function !! I have seen neurologist, my doctors all think it’s just anxiety!! I went and paid out of pocket for my ferritin levels and the level was a 6 omg they were so low I am now up to 20 and my doctor says it’s normal I feel a bit better but I can’t believe everything I went through and how they made me feel and never checked my levels! I still suffer from migraines but I am much better!
I hope you are doing better today. 20 is still way too low. I was at 9 four months ago and iron pills I couldn't handle same with liquid iron. After a fight with my doctor I had two infusions of Venofer and now I'm at 105! Feeling like myself ago. Breathing issues and heart racing were so bad I couldn't function. Also the first time in my life I had anxiety... It's currently all gone, hope it stays that way.
I’m glad you’re much better. You’re too beautiful to be depressed and anxious hun. And I’m glad you’re informing people of Iron Deficiency Anemia because most people even doctors don’t even know about it. I’ve been feeling like hell due to my stomach not absorbing iron correctly I’m getting my first infusion done on Monday. Wish me luck! Tired of suffering!
OMG!!! was told i have low iron today by doc. I didnt know that so much was being affected by this. I really thought I was like dying or going through premenopause at a very young age. Wow this info really makes me feel much better as I believe this has been an ongoing issue since i was 12 and having heavy periods.....jus soooo bad..... i was always ghost pale and look sick but still no one acted like was a concern. i didnt think much about cold hands and feet other than maybe im just a cold person lol but the mental stuff and physical symptoms were more obvious than i really thought. omg ty for this video!!! i feel much less scared!!
You're welcome. It can make you feel absolutely dreadful. Make sure youbget back up.to a good level and not just basic. And you need to now keep an eye on it. X
Fantastic, thank you very much for your openness, I´m on this "journey" right now. I have ferropenic anemia and it´s apparently due to a gyneacological problem (profuse bleeding). I went to an haemologist and I´m now on strong iron pills that get all the way till the gut and not broken down in the stomach, this way they are better absorved. This iron problem needs to be addressed seriously cause when addressed from the beginning we save years of suffering and constant visit to doctors who say "your blood test looks fine" and we get back home with a sense of surrender and no proper diagnose. Regards from Spain.
Please check the high level of iron you are taking with the specialists info@theironclinic.co.uk I dont know this condition so I maybe wrong. But I've been taught no.kore than 65mg every other day on empty stomach with vit c any more and your body doesn't absorb. Please check this. X
@@SallyJacksTVMum The haemologist suggested an intake of 100 mg of iron per day for 3 months minimum plus folic acid and vitamin B12. I´m Spaniard, writing from Spain and standards differ from country to country. According to him taking less than 100 mg is not enough. My hair has stopped falling, my nails aren´t brittle any more and I feel the energy back. Now I have taken a break and only taking them during the period. I don´t want to think of all those women put on antidepressants for an iron deficiency, it´s absurd. Thanks for the channel!
Holy shit I have EVERY ONE Of these symptoms. Headaches, brain fog, dizziness, hair falling out, weakness, lethargy, insomnia, always cold, crave ice, ongoing infections, panic attacks and also tinnitus. Though she didn't mention tinnitus. This is scaring the shit out of me as I just got covid and thought I had long covid till on a hunch I took an iron supplement & noticed I felt really different. I need to get tested!!!
I feel like he'll. Im angry all the time my ferritin 14...myndaughter shows same signs..I've suffered since teens I'm 50 now...going thru menopause. Have crying spells all the time..
Yes, I was never told about my iron deficiency either until I did my own labs to find out. I remember once in my 20s my doctor said "your iron is kind of low, you might want to take a supplement" but said quickly as I was leaving lol
My ferritin level has been as low as 8 and is now 20. I cannot seem to increase it. I’m freezing all the time, exhausted, struggle to exercise properly, etc etc! They keep giving me ferrous fumerate… it works for a bit but always gets low again when I’m off the iron. I was told it’s because of my diet ( I don’t eat much meat) but I have been actively trying to eat iron rich veg etc. I’m so glad I found this video because I thought I was going crazy. This all happened after the birth of my last baby 6 years ago.
I've been searching for an answer for more than 10 years. My ferritin is 16ug/l and I'm in a wheelchair and bed bound because of severe muscle weakness, fatigue and shortness of breath. I'm 24 years old and have no life. My doctors told me it is all in my head. Probably 'anxiety disorder, depression, FND/conversion, faking my fainting'. Thank you for sharing your story and confirming my own suspicions about low ferritin as the possible cause.
You're more than welcome. Please do sort these ferritin levels. You may find the best way is an infusion like myself. But also please check your b12, folate and vitamin d levels aswell. These can be low when others are low. B12 sometimes shows the same symptoms. Love x
@@SallyJacksTVMum Thankyou for your response. I'm injecting B12 for 1 year two times a week now, a few of my symptoms improved such as tingling/burning sensations in my legs. However my ferritin keeps decreasing and is now at 16 ug/l. I still have the shortness of breath, muscle weakness and severe fatigue. I also have blue, brittle nails, cold hands and feet and palor. Starting to think it's more likely the ferritin than b12. Hopefully I can find a doctor who understands ferritin. Wish you the best! X
@@Mirthenaomi you sound just like I did. Yes, I would say it's more than likely but I'm not medically trained. You can speak to info@theironclinic.co.uk or reception@themewspractice.com both will cost in a consultation fee. I had an infusion at your level of ferritin. Xxxx
Thank you so very much. I have struggled with this chronically for many moons. I also have erratic blood sugars - both things Dr.s never diagnosed until it had really caused havoc in my life. I have been told I am rare, but I don't think so. I believe the Dr.s do not test either. Presently my ferritin is back at a 4 and I am undergoing infusions. Thank you for helping spread awareness. Sending you much love and light my friend. You are inspiring.
Thank you Lola. I believe it is lack of training and rhe NICE COMMS GUIDELINES are too wide. I hope in some way these can be changed to help others. Im wishing you well, make sure youbcheck your b12, vit d and folate aswell. It seems to me (although not medically trained) that they are all linked. Keep me posted. Xxxx
Thankyou so much for sharing your story, as someone who has had life long panic attacks and constant tiredness I have found out that I have low iron stores bordering anaemic. I am starting iron infusion next week. I truly hope this will relieve symptoms and maybe my panic attacks. I always thought had depression now it maybe related to my low iron stores.
Love this, I've been ill most of my life with iron deficiency. We are not meant to be like that. I have suffered mental health problems and alcoholism. Low ferratin is awful.
I'm sorry to hear this. There are so many of us suffering or have suffered witb it. Please also check your b12 as this is associated with alcoholism and gives the same symptons. Xxx
@@SallyJacksTVMum I gave myself a b12 shot yesterday and today and taking gentle iron, methylfolate and black strap molasses until I get to the doctors for 200mg ferrous sulphate and I'm eating meat. I have mostly always been tired and weak, all I ate were eggs and chicken, I cannot do it anymore and tbh only until the other day I clicked cuz I knew not enough oxygen was getting to my brain. I'm asking for my blood results over these past 3 years.
Wow. Wow. Wow. Doctors have so much to answer for one day!!! Myself AND my daughter are low in iron. My daughter is very low. Since 2019, I pulled up her blood work and it was 6! 3 years later, it was 3! Now, it's probably nothing! THEY DID NOTHING to help her. 😭 Her ferratin was also low last year. I'm beyond angry. My poor baby has been suffering so badly. 😭 I am too, but she is extra. She's blacking out and her blood pressure is struggling. I think I might go ballistic at them. Finally, they're taking me us seriously and she might need infusions. Blood test tomorrow then we'll know. Shes on iron tablets now. How dare they steal her childhood! Grrr. Brilliant and brave you are beautifully woman! Thank you so much. xxx my daughter and I listened to your talk. It was brilliant. Also, we are on PPIs for bad tummy problems, is this common with iron issues?! That'd be truly stunning if so! We might be able (God willing) to ditch these dumb pills! Bless you xx
I dont know if you read these comments Sally, but I think Ive been iron deficient since my last son was born over 6 years ago. My ferritin had never been checked until 2.5 months ago. It was 12. In the US a popular iron used for infusions is Venofer, and it is infused in a series, typically 200-300mg at a time to reduce side effects. I just had my second one and am experirncing bad brain fog, horribly increased anxiety, more fatigue. Im just wondering, you have said at 9 weeks post infusion is when you realized how much better you were. Did you notice at any time im those 9 weeks when the panic and anxiety lifted? The anxiety and brain fog, along with the fatigue are my most troublesome symptoms at the moment along with some aches and pains. I can relate to so much of your story. Im so grateful you have put this out into the world! And im so sorry about your miscarriages. It took me close to 4 years of trying to concieve to get pregnant, and i lost that pregnancy early at 6 weeks. Miraculously, we got pregnant again the very next month which resulted in our first son. The doctors could never figure out why we weren't getting pregnant either. 3 medicated IUIs during that time but no pregnancies. I was in my late 20s! Maybe i was deficient then too!
Hello Sorry to hear your story, but there are so many of us women lies this, it saddens me. I had monofer iron and it lifted but very slowly over that 9 to12 weeks with me. However I've known women that it lifts straight away, so it seems to be different for many. Anxiety was the worst. I'm being tested at the moment, because I feel I may iron deficient again after I think it's 4 years now. 😅 Wishing you all the best and keep.me updated please. Xxxxx
I have just found your U tube channel and cannot believe it. Had my bloods done recently and ferritin is 8....have a call with dr tomorrow but now feel i understand why i have all the symptoms you describe. I hope i can get my life back on track ita been a long time
@@SallyJacksTVMum so the Dr has said i cannot have an iron infusion because my haemoglobin is 97 and they only give infusion if its 80 or below. Have to do a FIT test bowel colon cancer to rule out and start in liquid iron as i dont want the tablets. Have to do this for 3 months and review... What are your thoughts?
@@aliciastanton5665 I'm not medically trained so it's difficult. You need the bowel check of course, but I would disagree and push for a referral. Doctors should not go off haemoglobin but from ferritin for low iron. Your Doctor is not a specialist in this area. To speak with a specialist you need to contact info@theironclinic.co.uk but there will be a charge because it is a private clinic. At a level of 8 I know somay that have had infusions when dealing with doctors that know about iron. However other factors need to be considered with the tests that are being done. If you can afford to speak privately I would highly recommend.
@@aliciastanton5665 just going over my last message. Bowel check is majorly important. What I feel is wrong is the talk about haemoglobin level. That's why i would push for a referral. Xxx
@@SallyJacksTVMum thankyou so much. Yes i am worried about the bowel check more than anything now! I will certainly give it lots of thought. My red blood cells are very low, along with ferritine and haemoglobin! I have every symptom you describe and feel like someone pulled the plug on me 3 years ago. I just want Alicia back i miss her xxx
Wow thank you so much for sharing your story. I think I may just be having the same issue planning to bring this up with my doctor at my next visit thank you so very much.
Wow love the story. I also had so many miscarriages. I’m going through this now as my first symptoms were heart palpitations, horrid anxiety & panic attacks, bruising on my legs out of no where, losing my hair, short of breath on and off. Started 7 months postpartum. Drs keep telling me I’m okay. Ferritin is 19. 🥺 I know I need an iron transfusion. I am gonna keep pushing for one
Please write and speak with info@theironclinic.co.uk as they are medically trained to advise you. That level is very deficient, im afraid. It will be causing sll those symptons.. Please push, as this is not acceptable to leave you at that level. X
@@missk2329 is that measured ng/L? If that's so you have no iron at all. That realkt requires an infusion. You need to send your results and symptoms to info@theironclinic.co.uk and they will guide you. X
It’s crazy how vitamin deficiencies can basically affect your whole personality ! It’s so important to do blood work and get a copy of the raw data so you can optimise your health . A doctor simply saying you have normal ranges is not enough.
My ferritin was at 10 four years ago and was considered normal by my Gp. A doctor in my family I had sent my results to picked it up. I do think mine is low again :(
Love love loved your story. 2018, man. What a heartbreaking year. That was difficult to hear. I know that standard ferritin levels are frequently said to be ideal at 30-50, however, I was personally told mine should be 80-100. I have hypothyroidism as well, and iron is essential for making thyroid hormone. It's also harder to absorb iron with hypothyroidism, among other nutrients. I'm also a long distance runner, though I do not have a menstrual cycle anymore. Once I stopped having menstrual cycles, I thought I'd be OK going off of any kind of iron supplement. I recently tested and my levels were 23. Been feeling real awful lately. So heavy bleeding/menstrual bleeding is definitely not the full story as many of us are told. Many factors can come into play! I'm now taking a supplement called "Iron Fuzion" with 18mg of "natural" iron.
Thank you so much for sharing your story. You are 100% right and more need to know this. So weird how people aren't being treated and their levels raised, or being overdosed with too high a level of iron. At level 23 ng/L this is a level to be treated with an infusion and on 18mg it will take a long time. They say 65mg everyother day on an empty tummy with vitamin c. Because I'm not medically trained please check through and ask your Doctor to check the lancett with this information or email The Iron Clinic info@theironclinic.co.uk or Dr Caitlin Scott reception@themewspractice.com Hope that helps. X
I read iodine deficiency can cause heavy periods, due to causing low production of thyroid hormones (hypothyroidism) which regulates progesterone, which needs to be produced during the luteal phase (or something... or ovulation) but it doesn't. Even if you don't have heavy periods anymore the hypothyroidsm might be an indication. If it's possible ask the doctor for an iodine test.
@@SallyJacksTVMum Hello from Cyprus 👋 Thank you for your work 🙏 You are literally saving lives. I emailed the clinic. My recent test showed Ferritin at 16 "normal range" 10-160 and iron at 41 with a normal range of 35-160! I looked at some old tests in 2020 in a different country (Lebabon) and at that time my iron was 56 with a normal range of 40-160! Different countries, different ranges??? That means technically in Lebanon today I would be rushed to the emergency room as I would be way below the normal range. It seems in 2020 was 56 and today is 41 for iron, which is a decrease over the years. The ferritin is what frightens me. Did you have tinnitus as well? Would you suggest an iron injectable in your veins? It's called ferinject here in Cyprus. That's not the same as transfusion right? In the meantime, what mg of iron supplements do you recommend? God bless you for your work in women's Health & wellness and so happy you've found relief.
Iv just been and received my blood results and my serum ferritin has dropped again to 20 from 44 in November 2020. I’m so tired of the weakness I feel, my mental stamina has gone. Iv lost my business and everything. The doctors won’t help me because they’re guidelines are too wide as you say and I can’t afford an infusion. I’m so lost. This has been an ongoing issue for 8 months, I’m tired!
Oh my word Laurena. Im so sorry to hear this. Have you asked for a referral? This happened to a friend, she asked they referred to a haematologist and she then received an infusion. I can't promise but its worth a try?
Thank you so much for sharing this important message and I am so happy you were able to narrow down the cause of all these symptoms you were having. The other day I just got new blood work and I did it through a company that I can actually read my results online and my RBC is flagged as low and my ferritin is 19ug/l. But it says my ferritin is in the “normal range”. I have been dealing with horrible “thyroid” symptoms for the past year and a bit including heart palpitations and feeling cold and tired all the time. I have had lots of tests but they didn’t check my ferritin until this recent blood test! It’s so frustration! I believe I have low iron and am nervous my doctor will overlook it. :(
Yes your ferritin is low. Mine is 33 and I was feeling crap. Join low ferritin and the iron protocol groups on Facebook for supplement and dosage help. Most Drs don't know much about proper dosage.
I had iron deficiency since my late teens and for the last 5 years of my life id describe as a write off due to being so ill. On antihistamines twice a day for 7 years for non stop itching and crawling of my skin. I spoke to my gp about how this symptom was causing me so much distress, and the response was to respond with nothing, no input from my gp. I checked my ferritin due to hair falling out for the past 10 years it left me with at least less 30% hair volume & had a private test for my health, my ferritin was 9. At the time I'd had ongoing symptoms for years and not felt well at all. The fatigue became my new normal and I forgot how ill I really was and struggled to do things The Dr didn't really stress it was an issue having a low ferritin, but he mentioned Iay be anemic but would advise checking iron levels. Because he didn't stress I'd have serious symptoms from low ferritin nothing was done I got very ill 6 months later. Shortness of breath worsened and full on collapsing, confusion and worse brain fog. For years I've had a paler than normal complexion, dry skin, hair falling out and thinning even the hairline had fallen out and it had no shine, and I was itching and crawling all over. Non stop. Dry cracked lips but not to the sides. Shortness of breath quite frequently, felt a bit cold sometimes, no energy whatsoever and spent most of my time consuming caffeinated drinks and dreading going through my day feeling so awful, irritable and depressed and anxious and mighty exhausted. Nothing perked me up. Couldn't concentrate and felt distracted and uninterested in things I normally used to enjoy and been like that for years. Later Even small tasks were impossible, even getting up or walking a short distance when things got worse I'd just collapse and faint, have chest pain. I was so ill I couldn't walk around, and was deeply upset and irritable and angry. When I've gone to nhs Dr's I understand the general blood tests they do not check your iron. Maybe that's why they never alerted me to having low iron. Every menstrual cycle I'd go ashen, have symptoms of anemia but by about 9 days I'd start improving. In recent years I wouldn't bounce back. I think my ferritin and iron has always been low and it wasn't spotted But it may explain my no energy and really struggling. I've been on tablets for iron for 6 weeks so I'm still extremely unwell Probably been anemic many times. I know it's anemia as whenever I have a menstrual cycle the symptoms worsen, cold and gasping Had RLS for many years which is an early symptom. Getting your iron checked please remember your gp may not do this in general blood tests and may not acknowledge iron deficiency without anemia is an issue
Thank you for sharing. So sorry for your losses. Must be a hard thing to live with especially if you suspect it could have been different if your ferritin levels had been higher 😥🌻
It is, that's the hard thing for me to understand in this day and age. Doctors are still ill equipped to deal with this as they are not taught properly and the guidleines are too wide. How many people are there like me, who are suffering and don't need to? Xxx
@@SallyJacksTVMum Probably thousands. I think I've had issues with low iron all my life. I used to eat talcum powder in toilet paper (not used, lol) when I was a kid. Was this Pica I wonder, another symptom of low iron? I needed iron injections when I was pregnant (in mi arse-ouch!). My daughter seems to be chronically deficient too. And those bloody guidelines 🤬. My ferritin was 20 but cos it was within the 'normal' range, they wouldn't do anything about it. Tbh, I lost faith in doctors years ago. They are only interested in handing out pharmaceuticals these days...They could access the same info we do if they wanted to and really help people. Keep up the good work Sally 😊👍
@Sally Jacks TV Mum how often and what were side effects? My ferritin 14 saturation 19 hemoglobin 5.2.. regular dr nit worried but feel like heck...anger, depression no motivation what drvdo I see to get me transfusion with so called normal ranges bit exhibit 100 symptoms??
Hi Sally. My ferritn level is 4 with no treatment set up. I feel terrible. I would like to tell you my story. I watched your video and now I don't feel so alone. I was diagnosed with pernicious anemia 5 years ago. The usual suspects...anxiety, palpitations, agoraphobia, thinning hair ect...at the same time I was losing my right leg to bone tumors and my weight got down to about 80 pounds. My orthopedic oncologist finally thought to run a b12 test and it was at 90. Further tests, instrinic factor was 98.00. Normal range 0.0-0.1. They also ran a gene test which showed the mutation. I started b12 loading injections and then my primary wanted to pull them from me and go one a month. Thankfully, my oncologist strongly disagreed and was able to do 3 jabs a week and been doing that for the past 5 years. It changed my life!!! But, over the last few years, I've been slowly fading again. Since I'm always anemic due to PA, I just figured I had to deal with these symptoms. Over the summer, I've been getting weaker and continue to fade. Last week, I saw my doc and told him that... I'm weak I'm always overheating Brain fog Palpitations Anxiety Dizzy And don't feel like doing anything. I know you will understand as I'm a professional singer. Singing and performing saved my life after losing my right leg and am worried I won't be able to wail as I'm very breathy. I called my docs office once I got my labs on my patient portal. I can't get in for a few weeks. How do I get him to listen and jump on the infusion? I don't want to feel like this anymore. Thank you for reading
This is awful!!! I am so sorry that they aren’t listening to you. I had to pay for my iron infusion privately. The NHS only do them if your levels are extremely low. Do you live in the UK?
In december 2022 I was feeling exhausted. I had a blood test and hemoglobin was a bit low but the ferritin was at 6. And the iron in blood was also low. The GP gave me iron (one little bottle a day). Two months later I had another blood test and nothing had changed. Then he gave me tablets which use a technology that releases the iron in the bowel instead of the stomach. I took the tablets for 2 months. Nothing changed. As I was 56, I got an endoscopy to see if I was losing blood due to a stomach ulcer or something. But no, I was fine. I also had a colonoscopy done, just in case I had polyps or a bleeding tumour. It turned out I had polyps but they were benign and not bleeding at all. After all this, in September I stopped taking iron tablets because my body was not absorbing the iron, so why take them? Later on I found out if you take antiacids every day (stomach protector), the iron usually won't go up). So take that into account, as many people waste plenty of time searching for the cause of low ferritin and they don't know antiacids may cause it. Finally my sister told me to go to a hematologist. He said all the things related to iron were too low, starting with ferritin (still at 6), iron in blood and other things. He said I needed an iron infusion immediately (that was in December, last month). I had wasted a whole year!!! I was exhausted, moody, irritated about unimportant things and forgetful. Also lack of concentration. I started to find focussing really hard. Two weeks ago, on January 5, I had the iron infusion. I had no side effects at all, only maybe a bit of a headache but that's it. It took me 5 days to start to feel the effects. Maybe because I was given FERINJECT, and not VENOFER. I don't know. (there are 3 types of iron, ferinject is newer and given for low ferritin. Venofer is given to cancer patients). I wasn't that exhausted anymore. The thing is the hematologyst said that must come from years ago. I said to him: "no, you see? I found a blood test done in 2018 and my ferritin was 17, and according to the lab, it is ok". The doctor said: your ferritin level should be at least 50 or 60. WOW 😮I had no idea but yet, I am not a doctor. But the GP is a doctor. They don't know what a person's ferritin level should be???? Come on!!! I am going to see him next week (not through the Spanish NHS but I also have a private health insurance) and I am going to tell him what is the CORRECT ferritin level a woman my age should have. 😤 The thing is: I found blood tests from 2009 to 2019. I had a gastric sleeve (not a by-pass) in 2013 and I get blood tests taken every year. The hematologyst was right!!! A year after the operation my ferritin, which used to be at 79,95, even 114, started to gradually drop. In 2016/2017 they were already 17, 19, etc. So he was right, that was too low!!! What puzzles me again is: why don't GPs know that, ffs???? Anyway. Next month I will be having a blood test again to see if the iron infusion has done its job. I hope to improve and I hope to be me again. My mum used to tell me I had changed after the gastric sleeve operation. I would say no, it is not true, but dam... she was so right!!! I just didn't realise.
@@lisaho1218 Lack of concentration, brain fog, irritability, sometimes feeling depressed. I read some articles about it, written by hematogolists and yes, low ferritin can even cause depression.
I have been dealing with low ferritin for a few years and it never seems to get where it needs to be. My doctor is fortunately great and is trying to help me but I can’t seem to get enough in my diet. I’m going in for a blood test in a few weeks to see where my levels are currently and I have been trying to take my supplements. There are so many guidelines to follow when taking the pills so it can be tough to remember them. Like waiting to drink coffee in the morning or eating too much with them otherwise they won’t absorb into your blood. It seems easy, but it’s not!
I'm sorry to hear and I hope you get it sorted. Have they tried and infusion with you? Yes, there are so many guidelines when talking iron, you are fortunate in the fact that your doctor knows this as sadly many dont. X
Hello, I just discovered your video, I wanted to thank you a lot for sharing your story, you're so strong, I admire you a lot and I'm so glad you're feeling better! I've been diagnosed with low iron earlier this year, in may ( I remember getting 4 something but I'm not sure what because I live in France so it might not be the same way to express but the average for children was between 24 to 120 so I was wayyyyy below, considering I am 15 years old the average should be even higher because I'm considered as an adult on that point)after a year of being extremely tired every single day and needing at least 10 hours of sleep per night to feel almost normal. I am 15 so I have to go to school every day and this is one of the most challenging thing to do to me. As you mentioned in your video I also can't stand small talk or socialising with people in general is really hard, last year I was so tired all day every day at school that I was very often hiding in the bathroom during breaks. One thing that I noticed could be linked to iron deficiency too is the fact that since I was about 11 I always struggled to exercise at the time I thought I was just really bad at sports. This past year and a half I've also been dealing with anxiety, mainly social anxiety I've never been diagnosed but I'm pretty sure I'm suffering from it, and also a lot of brain fog but in the way that I feel disconnected to what's going on around me all the time, I still don't know if it is linked to iron deficiency. And one main thing that alarmed me too is the fact that very often when I get up my brain feel either really light or like it's gonna explode I can't really describe it but it is extremely uncomfortable, at the same time my vision becomes black and everything is moving, sometimes for no apparent reason, it gets worse like I pass out or sometimes I'm just about to but if I can hold onto something I get a little bit better in a few minutes, I just kind of "wake up" shaking, breathing very heavily and my head feeling weird as well. These are some of my symptoms I think so once I was diagnosed my doctor just gave me pills to take everyday for a month and then it got a little bit better, at the time I slept a lot, and didn't feel so bad so often x-when I stood up so I thought everything was fine, it was just a one time thing but in July and august it got worse again I went to see my doctor and he just told to take the pills again and now I have been taking them every day but I still have lots of symptoms and my doctor always says "yeah, you're just really tired, as always" but it got to the point where I just feel like I can't go to school the only reasons why I go is because of my mom and because it is really hard to work from home when no teacher puts the work online. I'm gonna try my best next time I'm going to the doctor to make him realise that has a real influence on my life, maybe he'll do something more. Anyway, hoping for the best now and thanking you another time as well as everyone else who shares their experience
by the way very sorry for this very long text to read but this is the only place I feel like I can talk to someone who won't neglect my symptoms so thank you for reading
My goodness 😳 you are going through the wars. Firstly thank you for sharing this. You need to speak to a specialist about this and so it's best if you and your mum contact info@theironclinic.co.uk with all your symptons and your recent blood work. If your iron was so very low I'm afraid one months course will not sort this. I had to have an infusion. To get my levels up via iron tablets would have taken nearly a year. It's also important that you don't over dose the body. It's recommended no more then 65mg every other day on empty stomach with vit c. The best thing you can do is contact the specialists in this area. You need to rule out that it's iron deficiency by getting those levels up to optimum. If no change then you need to look at other areas. If you do see a change you know what it was that was causing your symptons. Please also check your vitamin D, folate and b12. Hope that helps, speak to the specialists. Love Sally xxx
@@SallyJacksTVMum thank you very much for the help I'm going to talk about it with my doctor and do a blood test soon to check all of the possible deficiencies and iron and we'll see then, again thank you so much and happy holidays!
Thank-you, I was just diagnosed with low levels, and I never would have guessed why I was getting sick all the time and sleeping so much but not being ever rested if my friend (who gave blood all the time for research ) hadn't have said he was sleeping better after switching to red meat... It's too common for us not to be aware of...
If measured ng/L that means tou have no iron stores at all. I was 8 at my worst. This is very important this is dealt with. Remember optimum level is 100. It could take up to 12 months on tablets. An iron infusion is really your best way. Speak to info@theironclinic.co.uk they are specialist's in this area. Xx
@@SallyJacksTVMum thanks for replying. I am in the US. I have been taking multiple iron supplements daily. My primary care doctor has yet to contact me. I do have an appointment coming where I plan to ask about infusion.
Same mine is 11 ng/ml. All my doctor did was write I was anemic on my chart. Thankfully I checked my chart and called her to ask. If not she would’ve never told me. I’ve been working on getting healthy, but it explains why I’ve been feeling the way I have.
This saddens me. I have battling this for over a decade. I asked for ferritin since my hemoglobin was normal. My ferritin is 18 and doctors won't do a darn thing and I'm suffering severely. Trying out with iron supplements regardless off my Dr saying no.
Wooow I just gave June 18th of this year , all of assuden I started getting weird aching and pains all over my body started having chest pains I kept going back and fourth to the emergency they did blood work (they kept telling me they don’t know what it could be & said I was fine ) & even went to old my primary care doctor he did blood work says I was fine .. kept asking me if I was depressed or stressed out . My pain kept coming on getting more intense , started feeling overly tired even though I just had a newborn , so I couldn’t really tell a difference but i started having panic attacks & anxiety kept coming on I kept crying to my mom and family saying I know my body something is wrong , My doctor refused to do any further test to see what else it could be he told me he didn’t know .. at that point I said that’s it I’m going to go to a different doctor to get to the bottom of it and to get help because at this point I started getting heart palpitations and anxiety everyday .. just finally went to a different doctor she said she had and idea of what it could be so she did blood work on magnesium, potassium, ferritin, homocysteine , etc . Ferritin has come back 8 now she told me to take over the counter iron , & medication for heart palpitations & also anxiety medication.. It’s so horrible because I have a 3 month old & 2 small children & everyday task and responsibilities & I’m going through all this .. it’s so messed up because this could of all been avoided if these doctors I encountered would of just did there job from the start instead of just calling it anxiety and pushing me away now I don’t feel the same , I just want my body back 😔😔😔 .. thanks for sharing your story ❤️
When are the guidelines going to change for healthy ferritin levels though. Its ridiculous how inaccurate the standards are still. Thats the main reaon why people continue to be low in iron.
Ferratin at 30 Iron at 52, fatigued, depressed, unexplained infertility for 2 years. Doctors didin't raise a concern regarding my levels but I think it's affecting everything.
I've got the same story.... my iron is 35, the range is 30-300. The GP said that my psychiatrist is jumping the gun getting me to go get an iron infusion. She said that I should try tablets first. I'm going for the infusion because I have all these symptoms and I'm sick of them.
@@adriennegurley6089 I wasn't able to get an infusion because of policy. But my doctor put me on HemeVite Plus (Apex energetics) and it took me from 3 to 18 in a month. It also is slow releasing so it doesn't lead to constipation or any of the usual iron side effects. You should check it out!
Just came across this. Resonate so much with a lot of it. This is where the medical community is so wrong and so uninformed. Can’t begin to say how many times I had been told over 20 yrs ago that I was in ‘normal range’ I luckily have all the right medical support now but it took a v long time and so much heartache could have been avoided had just one picked up on it. Thanks for posting this

$3000 In labs with a rheumatologist after years of all these symptoms to find out I'm iron deficient. Thank God it wasn't Lupus. The tip off was my white blood cell count started dropping off to below 2.0. Heavy periods and chronic nose bleeds-should have figured. I feel so much better even just getting my ferritin above 10. I have a brain again and can exercise! I feel like myself again. 🎉 You have to ask your ferritin to be checked. Most Dr's don't check it despite all the symptoms.
Wow! I have spent so much money also. I recently got bloodwork done from my rheumatologist after thinking I may have a 2nd autoimmune disease. It all came back perfect, but my ferritin is low. I wonder if he will contact me about it.l? I seriously doubt it. I am so angry! This has been going on since I hemorrhaged after the birth of my first child 40 yrs ago. There are a few Drs that I'm going to tell off; I am livid.
In the US there are now heme iron supplements so infusions may not be needed and fixing this is easier. (Check out Three Arrows- not sponsored) My Dr would not test ferratin, but did an iron test, all 3 of those #s were abnormal. Because my RBC and Heme were more normal she said "your tests are normal. Your iron is low. We're not going to do an infusion, but you can start iron supplements". Normal but low? It's been 2 weeks on heme iron supplements and i notice a difference in the shortness of breath 👍
I had my first iron infusion yesterday , I feel so bad! But I've been anemic for four years ! I've been in bed for two months😢. Will I ever feel better?
Oh my word, I feel your pain....I'm so sorry. It affects different people in different ways. I'm wishing you all the best. I'm no medical expert, but I'm hoping you feel better like i did and the percentages are stacked for you to be a lot better. But it takes time, mine was around 9 weeks. My mum on the other hand felt better in two days. Everyone is different.. Keep me posted xxx
Mine is 8 and I am pregnant and due to give birth soon. Two doctors have refused iron infusions and one has been trying to get me on antidepressants because she thinks I'm making all this up in my head! I'm eating red meat everyday, taking liver supplements and taking 75 mg iron with vitamin c every second day but I need an infusion.
I have had a ferritin of 4 for the last 5 years and ive just learned about it and ive been trying so hard to get my doctor to agree to an infusion becahse i have had progressively more and more debilitating chronic anxiety as the years have gone on.... any ideas for references to show my doctor please? Your story is so inspiring and it made me emotional, thank you SO much for spreading awareness and for sharing your story, you are an inspiration
Brilliant! Thank you! I thought mine was long Covid and Menopause. Those hot sweats were a nightmare and breathlessness. GP says I have low Ferratin so am on Iron pills. My Mum, my Aunt, another Uncle and cousin all have B12 injections so guess I must keep an eye on this as well!

Gosh, I'm so glad you did. There are a few papers that do read that if you have iron deficiency you are at a higher risk of a stroke. Iron deficiency causes higher blood pressure, hypothyroidism can be caused by low iron aswell. After being ill with the iron deficiency I've since learnt if not corrected it can lead to a whole manner of things. Xxx
Thank u for this its very difficult to suffer from this iron deficiency i try to stop taking my iron supplements but i get very ill after 3 weeks with no tablets 😢 😮 it ruins u life u stay in do nothing ! Its a struggle to get out the house as it makes u so sad and tired u have no life when u too tired to do anything 😢
I have been struggling with iron deficiency anemia for 2 years. Had my first iron infusion in August 2020 after failing oral iron supplements for 9 months. My ferritin level was 4. My hemoglobin is 9. My fatigue has improved since iron infusions. However I need to get my ferritin and CBC drawn now since its been 40 days post infusion. Sadly I have noticed my lips now look a bit purple cyanotic. I took a finger pulse oximeter today and my oxygen saturation level is 84%! That’s worse than President Trump with Covid19! I am a registered nurse so know a thing or two about anemia but not enough to cure myself. I think I need to see a hematologist. Love your channel and am thankful for the education.
You need a haematologist that knows about iron to read your levels. It's important to read all your iron levels and to check you now have the stores and the trans ferritin saturation which then takes it to your haemoglobin. Let me know how you get on. Wishing you well. Sally xx
Had bloods taken in November and was given vitD, folic acid and iron tablets, I never asked what my levels were. Just back from getting them taken again today as I feel shocking and asked and my ferritin was 8 back in November. I’ve asked for a print out of the last results and the ones I’ll get back in a few days.
Blimey, thats the same level I was when I was pregnant and just after. That really you should be asking for a referral to a hematologist. Also, if they have given you vit d, folate and iron pleas will you ask about b12? It is all linked and therefore you need to raise your b12 before you raise the folate. The next thing is your Doctor needs to look a the lancett as no more than 65 mg a day on empty stomach with vit c. This is what the amount is and no more as it raises your hepicidin and stops absorbtion and causes tummy problems. Hope you are strong enough to put this to them. I remember how weak I was in the mind thats why I ask this. Xxxxx
@@SallyJacksTVMum thanks. The nurse mentioned b12 injections but said on my notes because my haemoglobin levels were okay it wasn't deemed necessary. The nurse was lovely. I'll definitely be talking to the Dr as I've hit an all time low energy wise and can't for the life of me remember words I want to say! I'm so glad I found your page. It's been so helpful and nice to see people who unfortunately know how bad this is, rather than the usual eye roll when you mention vitamin deficiencies.
@@kathyb1188 it's not in your haemoglobin. Please tell them its not macrcytic, megalablastic or pernicious anaemia but b12 deficiency. From what tour telling me, they've said you are low on b12 levels and hemoglobin shouldn't need to be looked at. www.guidelinecentral.com/share/summary/542d9b4337032#section-society If they're still saying anything about levels, then hand this to them (the link above) Folate masks b12 deficiency and so must be taken after b12 levels have risen. You need to accept the b12 hydroxycobalamin injections. They start on a loaded dose of one every other day for two weeks and it's VITAL that this is done. You then go sadly to 1 every 8 weeks by BNF guidelines, but actually should be having them when you need them. It's a water soluble and so you pee out what you don't use. Please go and discuss this with your doctor. Iron, b12, folate and vitamin d are all linked. Xxx
@@kathyb1188 obviously I don't know for certain it's not pernicious anaemia I'm just going off what you've said. Therefore it needs to be looked at closely. X

Thanks for this awareness, i stumbled upon your videos and i had the same symptoms of anxiety and extreme fatigue. I went to the doctor for years with always having low iron. They always said am not anemic becaus3 my heamoglobin was 10.... but ferritin was always low. Three days ago i had a private blood check and now my ferritin is 4 .... i just dont know what to do anymore. Thanks
You need an infusion. You can email the iron clinic info@theironclinic.co.uk but of course it's private and after the first emails you then pay for a consultation and then an infusion. If not, you need iron tablets and it will take about 12 months to build and be on them. That why you take no more than 65 mg every other day on empty stomach with vit c. Xxxx
Kudos to you Sally for being sharing your story and for being such a passionate and strong advocate for this important cause. I hope the word spreads and more doctors become attune to this problem. Bravo! 💕👍👏💕

Hello does weightless after delivery be a sign of iron defficiency?
Good luck
Is obesity linked to iron deficiency?
Omg I’m glad I’m not the only one . Getting out of bed is a Herculean task. Just got the first iron infusion and am hopeful

How are you feeling now?
Blessings
How are you now?
It’s been a long journey. I suffered mild heart failure as a result of iron deficiency. The mental health symptoms caused me to delay getting help as I believed the way I was feeling was a result of laziness and weight gain. Typical symptoms of depression. I am doing well now. Working out and eating well. Awareness way key! Thank you for creating awareness.

What did you take to raise your ferritin levels?
Did you get an iron infusion
@@vickywinifred3287 no - not really an option during the pandemic and they aren't done very often in Canada. Only in extreme cases.

Thank you !
I was wtf is wrong with me to. It was awful and no explanation just tonnes of pills. I'm now pill free and feeling rhe best. X
What did you do for your ferritin to increase from 6 to 20?
How have you got on? Hoping younate feeling better. X
OMG!!! was told i have low iron today by doc.
Oh i also was put on 200mg of sertraline for a while 0-0 that was so bad on my depression
You're welcome. It can make you feel absolutely dreadful. Make sure youbget back up.to a good level and not just basic. And you need to now keep an eye on it. X
Pregnant women watch for the symptoms BEFORE you get the first iron blood test and tell them also have it checked after birth for your mental health!
Yes, I was never told about my iron deficiency either until I did my own labs to find out. I remember once in my 20s my doctor said "your iron is kind of low, you might want to take a supplement" but said quickly as I was leaving lol
well done your an inspiration to us all. thankyou for taking the time x
Thats so kind of you, thank you x
My ferritin level has been as low as 8 and is now 20. I cannot seem to increase it. I’m freezing all the time, exhausted, struggle to exercise properly, etc etc! They keep giving me ferrous fumerate… it works for a bit but always gets low again when I’m off the iron. I was told it’s because of my diet ( I don’t eat much meat) but I have been actively trying to eat iron rich veg etc. I’m so glad I found this video because I thought I was going crazy. This all happened after the birth of my last baby 6 years ago.
Iron Repair Heme Plus has been helpful for me. The company is Three Arrows. Women owned business. It's heme iron, b12 and folate. Life changing.

Hello
Sorry to hear your story, but there are so many of us women lies this, it saddens me.
Xxxxx

@@SallyJacksTVMum so the Dr has said i cannot have an iron infusion because my haemoglobin is 97 and they only give infusion if its 80 or below. You need the bowel check of course, but I would disagree and push for a referral. Doctors should not go off haemoglobin but from ferritin for low iron.

To speak with a specialist you need to contact info@theironclinic.co.uk but there will be a charge because it is a private clinic.

Thanks for sharing your story. Very helpful
Because I'm not medically trained please check through and ask your Doctor to check the lancett with this information or email The Iron Clinic info@theironclinic.co.uk or Dr Caitlin Scott reception@themewspractice.com
Hope that helps.
The fatigue became my new normal and I forgot how ill I really was and struggled to do things
The Dr didn't really stress it was an issue having a low ferritin, but he mentioned Iay be anemic but would advise checking iron levels. Because he didn't stress I'd have serious symptoms from low ferritin nothing was done
I got very ill 6 months later.
I think my ferritin and iron has always been low and it wasn't spotted
But it may explain my no energy and really struggling.
I've been on tablets for iron for 6 weeks so I'm still extremely unwell
Probably been anemic many times.
I know it's anemia as whenever I have a menstrual cycle the symptoms worsen, cold and gasping
Had RLS for many years which is an early symptom.
Xxx

I'm weak
I'm always overheating
Brain fog
Palpitations
Anxiety
Dizzy
And don't feel like doing anything.
I hope you are doing better now.
The thing is: I found blood tests from 2009 to 2019.
Hi Maddie, how are you feeling now? Did you have any other symptoms other then fatigue?
@@lisaho1218 Lack of concentration, brain fog, irritability, sometimes feeling depressed. I read some articles about it, written by hematogolists and yes, low ferritin can even cause depression.
Thank you for sharing your story!! God bless you and your family ❤️😊🙏😇
Thank you and you to. X

My ferritin is at 5.5 test results showed up three days ago. Still waiting to hear from doctor.
@@tashastakeonlife4733 make sure you do not take too much. The advice now is 65mg every other day on empty stomach with vit c. Xx
Same mine is 11 ng/ml. All my doctor did was write I was anemic on my chart. Thankfully I checked my chart and called her to ask. If not she would’ve never told me. I’ve been working on getting healthy, but it explains why I’ve been feeling the way I have.
@@SallyJacksTVMum is 85 MG too much?
This saddens me. I have battling this for over a decade. I asked for ferritin since my hemoglobin was normal. My ferritin is 18 and doctors won't do a darn thing and I'm suffering severely. Trying out with iron supplements regardless off my Dr saying no.
I am going through the same. I’m considering switching doctors.

I meant I just gave birth*
When are the guidelines going to change for healthy ferritin levels though. Its ridiculous how inaccurate the standards are still. Thats the main reaon why people continue to be low in iron.
Ferratin at 30 Iron at 52, fatigued, depressed, unexplained infertility for 2 years. Doctors didin't raise a concern regarding my levels but I think it's affecting everything.
Try and see a specialist in this area. I hope it gets sorted x
I've got the same story.... my iron is 35, the range is 30-300.
The GP said that my psychiatrist is jumping the gun getting me to go get an iron infusion. She said that I should try tablets first. I'm going for the infusion because I have all these symptoms and I'm sick of them.
Absolutely. Your gut is right, you need the iron infusion. Let me know how you get on. Xxxx
Mine is 7%...😭😭😭😭
How do you feel after infusion? How often do you need them?
My doctor checked my ferritin and it was 3!! I can't wait to be better.
You need an infusion at that level, you have nothing jn your body. Xx
I’m a currently at a 3 as well I went for an infusion and I had and allergic reaction to it I don’t know what else to do 🥺
@@adriennegurley6089 I wasn't able to get an infusion because of policy. But my doctor put me on HemeVite Plus (Apex energetics) and it took me from 3 to 18 in a month. It also is slow releasing so it doesn't lead to constipation or any of the usual iron side effects. You should check it out!
@@SallyJacksTVMum My ferritin is 16! That's quite low isn't it?
Just came across this. Resonate so much with a lot of it. This is where the medical community is so wrong and so uninformed. Can’t begin to say how many times I had been told over 20 yrs ago that I was in ‘normal range’

You have to ask your ferritin to be checked.
Well done Sally - an amazing speech ❤️
Thank you x

Xxx
I've suffered from anemia, anxiety and insomnia for about 18 odd years. Even till today my GP says my levels are 'normal'.
From what tour telling me, they've said you are low on b12 levels and hemoglobin shouldn't need to be looked at.
www.guidelinecentral.com/share/summary/542d9b4337032#section-society
If they're still saying anything about levels, then hand this to them (the link above)
Folate masks b12 deficiency and so must be taken after b12 levels have risen.

Xxxx
