I just listened to your video and I'm glad I did. I was hospitalized 3 days ago. I had 8 straight panic attacks all in a row. I developed anxiety little by little for several years now. I been depressed as well, I just couldn't pinpoint what I was going through. I thought I was just going crazy. Literally we do go wacko when we are not healthy. Turns out I been anemic. I just starting my road to recovery. I'm so glad to be alive.

@@fortheloveofmoon I didn’t get any side effects. It has taken about 2 months for me to notice that I’m not breathless going up stairs etc. it’s now 3.5 months later and I can see baby hairs growing and ridges on my nails are diminishing. Love you Sally! I have been suffering from Iron Deficiency, I know now thanks to my incredible GP, for who knows how long. I remember the first day I was at the gym and walking up stairs and out of no where got to the point of so out of breath I had to go sit down because I was so out of breath and my heart was pounding so hard. I have depression, panic attacks, anxiety, migraines for 4 years, shortness of breath consistently for 4 years, chronic UTI, lupus, RA, Hypothyroid etc. Eat ice like crazy. I've looked back at labs and it all was right there in black and white. Makes me so mad that any of my doctor's through the years never did anything. My new GP listened to what was going on and ordered the specific Iron tests and sure enough sent me to a wonderful Hematologist and I am going today for my 2nd Iron Infusion. I love that you took your health into your own hands and I always feel you have to be your own advocate with your health because you're right. Doctor's will brush it off and tell you to go see a mental health doctor or go work out. Yeah, how can I work out if I'm going to fall out from not being able to take a good enough breath? I'm definitely going to join the groups. Thank you!!!!!

I woke up one day in December i felt weird, disconnected, floaty, unexplainable to anyone i spoke too.
That led to a full blown panic attack, i thought i was dying, i went hospital and was diagnosed with panic disorder and had meds thrown at me, i took the meds, as i trusted my diagnosis and the hospital told me my bloods were fine, anyway my symptoms got worse, i went from being an active person to someone who struggled to clean my house, my pulse would race, i had crazy anxious thoughts anxiety is extreme and ive never ever suffered anxiety or panic attacks.
My joint’s started hurting, i couldnt sleep, if i fell asleep if jump awake in a panic. My hair falls out, im a mess, I finally found a good doctor, who told me my ferritin levels were 6.
I had my first infusion 3 days ago and im getting another next week.

It took the doctors a year before they tested my blood. I went to the emergency room one night with heart palpitations, chest pain, feeling so anxious and in pain. I had cracks on the side of my mouth and spoon nails. I had panic attacks. The doctor said I had anxiety and prescribed antidepressants. I took the antidepressant but felt the same. I started to feel depressed and always tired. I thought I was crazy and could not explain how badly I felt to my family and friends. I could barely manage work. I went to the doctor 6 months later and they ordered blood test. When I called my doctor 2 months later because I still felt terrible, they said btw your ferritin level is low at 8. She prescribed iron pills and vitamin D. My doctor denied that all my symptoms could be related to my iron deficiency. I did so much research on iron deficiency since and found your channel. I am so happy to have found your channel and support your initiative to increase awareness. It has been almost 2 months that I am on the iron pills and I already feel less anxious and better. I will ask my doctor about iron infusion and push to get them.

Your level was the same as mine!!!
It is so ridiculous that Doctors still do not know that this is how severe iron deficiency can be.
      I really feel for you.
Iron tablets will take a long time to reach a good level. You are looking about 12 months.
Make sure you are not over dosing on them. In the recent randomised control trial in the Lancet you should.only be taking 65mg of iron every other day on an empty stomach with vitamin c. This is very important.
The time you will been to be on them, if you take more then it can irritate the stomach over time and less is absorbed because you are taking too much.
If you need to speak to the specialists in this field contact info@theironclinic.co.uk they know the most about this.
Also please check your b12 and your folate aswell.
Optimum level for ferritin is 100ng/L.
      All the best. Xxx

I was going through the same as a young male. I was in total 30 times at the ER, they checked for heart attacks, tumors etc., but found out nothing. So they told me, I suffer from panic attacks and depression.
Then the psychiatrist told me it could be adhd/add.
So I went through the whole process and got prescribed Vyvanse. When I took it, it really helped me again to stay awake the day over and do again things - because I was a mess in that time, I was able to do nothing anymore. I slept 12 hours and felt horrible, having muscle pain all the time. My regular heart beat was at 90 even before I took Vyvanse.
I gained weight 20 kilos before, so I engaged in alot of sports and gym, ate 1400kcal per day and I promise you I didn't loose weight. It was impossible to loose weight anymore and I never was overweight before, I was really trained and sportive.
I researched in total I guess one month 24/7 about what it could be.
      Then I found it.
And now I'm so to say like in a recovery, getting iron supplements and infusions. I was extremely low.
I never experienced hair loss and not much headache, but my life just felt horrible, I forgot things, had no motivation, not at all, couldn't sleep, didn't enjoy anything anymore that I used to enjoy, I even didn't wanted to talk to people anymore. My mood was unstable and every work project was like the mount everest to me. And I still do look like a ghost, my skin is white as a wall.
      That was going on since I was 14 - now I'm 28.
Got a diagnosis for adhd haha, it's incredible.

Thank you for this video! I was diagnosed with chronic anemia after over 2 decades of suffering from it. I've had 8+ transfusions, ended up having seizures, aneurysm and a stroke all as a result of my very low hemoglobin count. My lowest was 2.8. What caused my chronic anemia was heavy bleeding caused by painful fibroids. My ob-gyn wanted to do a hysterectomy but said that there was no way he can perform it with me being so anemic. Eventually he referred me out to get another less evasive procedure. The procedure has worked wonderfully for me. Just like you, I am very passionate about this topic of anemia. I suffered many of the symptoms you described. It felt as though I was in a prison and my body was that prison. It got so bad that I could no longer go food shopping. I would drive and my daughter would get out and do the shopping for me. Very tough times. How do I get involved with the community?

    Hello Sally!
I want to firstly thank you for the knowledge that you have given me to move forward.
I have suffered for many, many years with Low Iron Anemia as well as extremely low ferratin. My lowest level was “7”. I was so fatigued I didn’t know what to do.
Finally after years of doing my own research, changing G.P., I am slowly being listened to.
I recently had 4 weekly iron infusions done(and I literally had to beg the hematologist for it).
I felt no better at all after the infusions and when I had my follow up with her and stressed my concern about not feeling any better and my hemoglobin levels were only at 112 when the lowest level is 120,she simply told me that I had had enough iron!
I felt really lost when I left her office!!!
So, I sincerely want to thank you for sharing your knowledge!
I am on a mission to get myself right. 😁

Hi Sally, I am 21. My iron is 49ug/dl, ferritin is 30, d3 is 11, B 12 is 100 and hb is 13. I have severe anxiety, panic attacks, fatigue, severe hairfall, I have lost 60% of my hair weakness, rapid pulse, can't walk for more than 5 minutes. My digestion is poor. My panic attacks started when my cousin brother passed way. Before that I was fine. I could take tea and coffee. I could handle stressors. During covid some of my relatives passed way. But before these incidents I had some symptoms. I had severe headaches. I couldn't run, could not walk for long time, had difficulty in standing for long time. I went to a see a doctor and asked to get my d3 levels checked but he simply refused and said that everybody has some deficiencies and don't worry, then I went to another doctor , he did my whole body test but didn't check my ferritin and Iron profile . He said you don't need to. If your MCV is fine, your iron is fine , then I got it tested from a laboratory. I don't know if my levels are fine. I have been suffering from almost 4 years. I am on antidepressants right now. I feel terrible. Please advise.

Please contact info@theironclinic.co.uk or reception@themewspractice.com you really need to speak to a specialist.
The reason is that most GP'S are giving too high a dose that then irritates the tummy and doesn't absorb because the body shuts it's doors.
If you are very low then it can take sometimes a year to build back up, not a few weeks or months and that's why a lower dose over a longer period is more successful. X

Well, i did feel better but not as good as one should feel. Finally because of you I decided to check my ferritin and bam - 20 ng/ml. My hair progressively has been getting less thick, it's nothing compared to when I was 13-14. Cannot wait to finally feel happy and energetic, thank you!!!

Hi first I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for doing this video 💛 this past year was the worst of my life and I felt so alone. I’m so sorry you had to suffer this. I’m experiencing something similiar. Only two weeks ago I came to the conclusion that iron deficiency is behind everything. my first symptom was hair loss. I lost 80% of my hair in a year. Everyday 400-500 hairs were shed. my eyebrows, eyelashes and even body hair fell out. My derm diagnosed it as telogen effluvium stress related although I knew it wasn’t mental stress. I started to take anti deprassant but it didn’t improve anything. I did extensive blood tests and my ferritin was 30 which is considerate normal(for men its between 20-320) according to my doctor. Everything else was normal. Then came fatigue, white weird smooth tongue, white nails with vertical ridges(it always was pink and smooth) that stopped grow, tingling in feet, memory problems and GI rumbling, tinnitus in ears and heart palpitations. I was vegetarian for 10 years and then I checked B12 which was mildly low. I got many injections of B12 and some of the symptoms has improved but still got severe hair loss, white nails, white tongue, fatigue and memory problems. In the next blood tests my iron in the blood was extremely low (25) and only then my dr told me to take iron supplement. After a few months my ferritin went up to 50 and iron level was good but I still suffered from symptoms. Doctor told me to keep taking iron pills. In the next test my hemoglobin dropped although my ferritin was around 50. Then I came back to my doctor and told him that it seems my body was asking all this time for iron. He prescribed me liquid iron as I doesn’t absorb the pills well. I really want to feel good again. I lost most of my hair and my nails doesn’t grow. my parents saw all the hairs that came off everyday in the sink and thought I have some severe illness😥 I want to beileve its possible to bring ferritin to 100 because I took 3-4 iron pills a day for 4 months and it only went up from 30 to 50. I hope to return to my old self before all of this😥 Thank you again for sharing you story 💛

Have you contacted the iron clinic?
      Dr Caitlin Scott info@theironclinic.co.uk
Send off this list and your bloods please.
3 to 4 tablets a day will probably be overloading your bidy and therefore it won't absorb.
Its 65mg everyday max on empty stomach with vit c. Your increase in absorbtion is 400% with the vit c and 30% only taking 65mg a day.
It maybe that your body doesn't absorb iron through the stomach. Therefore an infusion maybe better for you.
Vegetarians and vegans suffer more with this than anyone else.
Plus your folate needs checking and your vit d. B12 you sound like you could be very low to. What was your level please? If you don't mind me asking. Unfortunately this is the same probelem as iron and it they say its fine when it is low.
I hope you done mjnd me asking. Just trying to help. Xx

@@E10l hello, I'm sorry to hear all of this but glad you have had an iron infusion. The iron infusion will take time. Mine was about 9 weeks.
The iron tablets two or three a day is too much. It raises your hepicidin and then you stop absorbing. For tablets it should only be 65mg every other day on empty stomach with vit c. That's the new guidelines in the British medical journal.
As for some of your other symptons they very much sound like b12 deficiency to.me, but im ot medically trained. But from what I've learnt. Symptons are very similar to iron deficiency. Both b12, iron and foalte make up your red blood cells of your haemoglobin.
You need to get this checked and what your level is. It's the same story as iton that our guidelines are too wide. There is a b12 book by Sally Pacholok that is a great read on this condition.
If deficient you need to supplement always and that will depend on when your body needs it. You also need the loaded dose in injections to start with which is one injection every other day for two weeks, then as and when you need them. The BNF guidelines say every 8 weeks, but thisnisnt evlnough as it is a water soluble and you pee it out after 48 to 72 hours.
I hope this helps, also check your folate and vitamin d levels and sadly the same applies to them. The guidleines are too wide. Xxx

      @E10l 4 ปีที่แล้ว

Sally Jacks TV Mum I had mild low B12 (330) and my dr gave me many injections after I insist because the pills didn’t do anything and I thought I’m going to die(I had ringing in my ears, insomnia, weight loss, memory loss, blurred vision, really bad anxiety like I wasn’t myself anymore) .now my B12 is above 2000 and these symptoms are gone. I have vitamin D deficiency(49) and the normal range is between 75-250. I take a vitamin D supplement in a liquid form but it makes me nauseate. Do you take vitamin D also? do you feel nausea as well? I take 1000IU per day. My folate is actually high 👌🏻. Israel where I live is very similiar to Britian. we also have very wide guidelines and most doctor still thinks that if you’re in the normal range you’re fine. Luckily, my dr told me that 30 ferritin is low and it needs to be above 100. it took 10 years for it to be depleted with my vegetarian diet and now it seems my body can’t absorb iron but maybe I should have taken a pill a day from your explanation. I really thought iron infusion is an easy fix 😕🤦🏻‍♂️😅 But I guess 9 weeks is nothing compared to my 2 years of suffering. Thank you for replying quickly. It helps a lot and I really appreciate it and that you’re passionate to help people💛

Please don't take b12 before your blood test as it skews the results. You want a least two weeks before if tablets or sprays and at least a month if it is an injection.

You said it took 9 weeks for your symptoms to go away? Did you get iron infusion once a week? Do you know how much you’re ferritin was after the iron infusion? I’m getting venofer(iron sucrose) 200mg once a week. my ferritin was 30 and iron saturation 17% (before the infusion). Does iron infusion raise ferritin gradually or it will cause some huge leap from 30 to like 150?

Please read your ferritin, not your haemoglobin. Your haemoglobin is the end of the line.
It all starts and shows in your ferritin and it shouldn't be dropping lower than 100 ng/L that is the optimum level.
Anaemia for iron deficiency could be a thing of rhe past if Doctors looked at ferritin and trans ferritin saturation. Iron deficiency Anaemia should not be happening anymore except for those in a minority that cannot absorb and have other probelms where aneamia could happen.
Also, if taking tablets it shouldn't be more than 65mg every other day on empty stomach with vit c. Anymore and the body doesn't absorb and it raises your hepicidin which stops absorbtion.
I hope this helps. Xxx good luck

i was having pretty intense panic attacks when i was eating that stopped me being able to eat. i phoned my doctor and described my symptoms and also brought up my problems with joint pain. straight away they booked me in for an ECG and blood tests. The blood came back and revealed I had anemia, very low iron (only at a 7 when you’re meant to be at least at 28) as well as potentially low vitamin B-12 and folic acid deficient. I am meant to take B-12 in the autum, winter and spring and start taking iron medicine and folic acid tablets tomorrow. I’m 16 and had been suffering from extreme dizziness when standing up, constantly feeling fatigued as well a really bad problem with my left foot cramping up quite severely. I had no idea that these were anything abnormal but i’m very glad my doctor booked me in to check my physical health when i called about my panic attacks and in hopeful i’ll start feeling better

Thank you for this, seriously, your video is more valuable than most visits to the doctor´s. One can see you went through this issue and had lost a lot of time undiagnosed, like many people who have commented below. It´s incredible the amount of people (women in this case) that are put into antidepressants instead of doctors paying attention to ferritin levels. In many countries ferritin is not included in a simple blood count, just iron and haemoglobin. I had a ferritin level of 10 and this fact was ignored by a doctor, he just said, "everything looks fine". I went to an endocrinologist to check if I had hypothiroidism, it turned out I wasn´t hypothyroid. Finally I read something on the Internet that suggested going to an haematologist. I visited him and it was the only person to confirm that a ferritin level of 10 is a red flag and put me on the most effective iron supplement. The diagnose is in this case "ferropenia". Now I´m taking it but suffering from headaches and tiredness.
Much love. Thank you very MUCH.

Doctors in the U.S often refuse to listen to patients and we suffer for it. I was misdiagnosed for 7 years due to negligence by 2 doctors. My blood tests screamed trouble, but it was ignored. I filed 2 lawsuits and won both. Now when I visit doctors, I always record the conversation and I will write out my symptoms and the tests I want ran. If they refuse, I make them sign that they refused so that if I end up being right AGAIN, I can then file a lawsuit. It seems to be the only way to open their eyes. Doctors are stubborn and have an ego issue when it comes to patients proving them wrong.

If you are incredibly low then off the shelf products sadly won't work. But if you are just a fraction lower than the optimum level then yes it could be beneficial to take off the shelf products.
I did try this and it did nothing for me and that's because I had nothing at all in my body.

Hi Sally! I applaud you for your extensive research and awareness to a problem that desperately needs more attention. I am so sorry to hear of all that you want through but so glad that you have gotten to the root cause of your problems. I too had a miscarriage with my first many years ago but ended up having two beautiful children in the years following. However, I hemorrhaged with my daughter when I was 5 months pregnant and 5 years later my son was born a preemie at 6 weeks early. Hearing your story makes me wonder if low iron was the result of all of these problems.
Most recently I had landed in the ER three times in one week for severe reactions to having Blood Pressure meds changed. I never had high blood pressure before and I have now been working with my cardiologist to find out the cause. Extensive testing shows all is normal but that it could be hereditary. In addition, I had 4 extensive blood tests done by two different doctors. Your story prompted me to go back and check many pages of results. All levels- iron, ferritin, etc. are right in the middle of the range. But I see what you mean about these ranges being so wide. I was just curious to know-what would the range be if they were tightened. Bless your heart for being a great advocate for such a worthy cause and please remain healthy! 💕👍💕

I checked my level two days ago and my ferritin is 115, serum iron 83, iron saturation 28%. B12 is above 2000 after injections. folic acid is good. Thyroid hormones are all good. how long after your infusion you started to feel better? when the hair loss stopped?when your nails improve and got back to normal? when your brain fog improved? Hi Sally 👋 I am getting an iron infusion next week- ferrinject 2 viles. My lowest iron a few months ago was 54 ("normal ranges 49-160) and ferritin lowest was 16 with normal ranges (13-150). My levels now after supplementing for 2 or 3 month are iron 64 and ferritin 37. Is ferrinject a safe brand with low side effects/risks? How long until we get our energy and life back? Do you have any advice for me going into my first infusion? My phosphorus level is on the higher end (4) and my vitamin D was 50, folate 15. B12 (2,000 due to b12 injections i took too much of). My Vitamin D is now higher as ive been supplementing so it should be in the 70's. I will do another round of blood tests when i can afford it again. I paid out of pocket for ALL mineral and vitamins tests. After 5 years of suffering with doctors, i had to take my health into my own hands. I noticed my zinc was also deficient (72 with reference ranges of 70-114) so i started dosing with zinc picolate (hope thats the right one.) ALSO strangely enough, my Vitamin K was ridicuslously low 324 with reference range of 500-900. So, I've got lots to sort out! I dont know what caused all of my poor health.... but i did lose 32 kilos by 1:1 diet and never reaally supplemented with vitamins and minerals so perhaps that's what caused things to go south. Also, i have had heaby periods for as lond as i can remember. Annnnnd i use to drink quite a lot of de-bloat fennel flat belly teas that could also take out my vitamins/minerals. X

Thank you so much. My level is 19 and i suffer from palpitations, hot sweats or not being able to keep warm at night so much so I can’t sleep. My hair is the thinnest it’s ever been I’ve had to cut it short. Plus terrible brain fog that I actually think I’m going crazy at times. However I’ve not been offered anything from the GP as it’s within range.

No problem. Please make sure you follow the description and if you can watch my other vlogs. My deficiency was missed by quite a few doctors and an Obstetrician because the nice comms guidelines are to wide. Get a print out if your bloods of all the iron readings, not just your haemoglobin and send to the iron clinic with your symptons. X

Most I know about ferritin and iron etc is knowledge I acquired myself from watching videos like yours and online research and reading
Dealing w a life long iron deficiency and all symptoms you describe in your video forces one to out of sheer desperation
While furious with the lacklustre and unknowing approach to this by many docs, I was also incredibly relieved when I realised that ferritin stores of 40 thereabouts - while being in medical terms in ‘normal’ range - are still nowhere near enough to where they should be for my symptoms to disappear
Mine now at about 20 and will aim to get them back up to at least 100
Luckily have a good doc now but it’s me educating her on some… 🙈

I had my son last August. I was close to blood transfusion, but was giving iv drip and iron tablets for 3 weeks doctor told me stop taking as level was normal. After my symptoms started floored in at weeks check told go on anti depressants. Which I never. Symptoms got worse where off balance like on a boat. Sent for MRI scan came back normal seen ENT diagnosed with vestibular migraines. But since find iron deficiency support groups. Found out doctor not been doing ferritin test. So think I've been missed diagnosed. As my ferritin was 20 and doctor says I'm fine than says I'm borderline. I have most symptoms for iron deficiency. 3 times I've offered anti depressants and said no because in my gut I knew something else

Thank you for doing this. I gave this exact speech to all the females I know. Trying to correct iron deficiency anemia. My ferritin was 6. Taking 65mg Vitron C and six months later it's 32. Hairfall has NOT stopped! My Dr. told me to stop my iron because the ferritin is "good enough"! I'm still going to continue supplements regardless of her advice!!

Your ferritin at 32 is not good enough and hair growth doesn't usually start to happen till ferritin is roughly around 60 to 70.
Keep up the good work. Optimum level is 100. Xxx

Love you and love this!! I’m on this journey now, 7+ years now!! Ferritin 15-20 not on oral iron and I feel like death. Even on oral iron ferritin is 25-50. Still feel like death. Hemoglobin is ok, vit d 46, B12 robust, folate is ok. The only thing consistent is ferritin. 😔 luckily my pcp is now pulling all labs IM TELLING HIM to pull… not how it should be!

@@SallyJacksTVMum Hematology Dr said on Friday I was fine with a ferritin below 30. I’m looking for more Drs where I live that will do an IV iron infusion. Can’t get iron store up orally for 3 years I’ve tried. B12 is robust and high, Vit D is on the low end ❤️

Great news!! The Hematology Dr slammed me down last week saying my iron levels were fine, however this week a new door from God has opened! Another Dr (naturopathic) is taking me on as an iron deficiency patient for IV iron infusions!!! I’m going to get better!! 7 years of pain. 3 years on oral iron meds. Now finally a Dr is behind me on this effort!! Thanks Sally, keep spreading the word I will too!

Sooo frustrating! Dr Scott is absolutely right, there is a big gap in knowledge regarding ferritin and the impact it has on people. Traditional MD Drs here in USA only look for anemia with low hemoglobin…Naturopathic Drs here (some of them) really know the impact of low ferritin levels on people. I was approved right away as a candidate for IV iron. 7 years later…I’m excited to see what a more “normal” day feels like. XX

Hey Sally thanks for the lovely video! I'm a male 22 years old with all of the symptoms you mention in this video, although on a full panel blood test the only thing out of range was my ferritin at 17ng/dL, just wondering what sort of things cause low ferritin in men as my GP mentioned low ferritin in very rare in males
