I’m a white American who teaches English to refugees and am learning Swahili so I can show my students I get it-learning a new language is hard but with practice it can be done. I’m no where near fluent but when I say a full sentence in Swahili my students get so excited in the same ways I do when they make advances in English. Plus, Swahili is a fun language. It’s very playful in a lot of ways.
