I was born in Uganda, and I remember as a child in the 1960's we used to have Swahili visitors from Mombasa and Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda and Burundi and Sudan. It was interesting the different range of Swahili we heard. The Swahili of Uganda is simple, without too many vocabularies but we can understand a conversation most of the time. I think Swahili should be made a common language of Africa, it is easy and beautiful.

@@stephenokech8516 stop deceiving yourself, Kiswahili is a bantu language and it's called so for a reason. Few Arabic borrowed words are mostly used for religious reason and the rest have been africanized so much for an Arab to comprehend. The two are worlds apart.

      @Ali-nl2du 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@mwangigitau286 You are definitely not a Swahili and what are you saying here is very far from the truth. The word Swahili itself is Arabic, meaning Coastal. Swahili is a language of Coastal people of East Africa, formed by mixing different Bantu dialects of coastal dwellers with Arabic, Persian, some Portuguese and Indian languages. Arabic words are an integral part of the Swahili language, remove them and you have no swahili left. Most swahilis are muslims, this is an undenialble fact and is reflected in their language. This applies to the Sahel region in West Africa too. If you consider the Sahara desert a sea then you will understand this. Sahel == Swahili. Kaa salama, a Swahili native from Zanzibar.

Give swahili a great support , just like the British colonised and non colonised countries thru the whole world,
India is a very big country with a population of more than 1,200,000,000 the second largest population in the world, it has many native language and many different religions, but Hindi or Urdu is the national language with English,
China is the world's largest country in terms of population and geographical distance, yet they have a national language.
It doesn't sound good after many years and seeing African leaders attending the OAU or any summit while many wearing headphones to hear the translation, English, French, Italian and may be Portuguese.
Swahili is from bantu and mixed with Arabic and it has been spoken in many hundreds of years, and it sounds very beautiful and very simple to learn for any in both Africa and the entire world, in Americas, Europe, China and some places in the world are already serious learning Kiswahili,
English language and the most spoken in almost many countries in the world, as a language could have not been completed without Arabic.
So what is the problem with kiswahili,
Please let's think well and be proud of something is better than nothing .
Kiswahili has already have some ICONICS, Internationally

Kiswahili is an artificial language brought in by the slave traders. It's mostly Arabic and European words and brutal history behind it. It's still used by armed forces and criminal gangs, and that's why people in countries brutalised by the swahili speaking oppressors are still terified of it....

Kasirye , you are not being very fair: you focus mainly on Kampala and call that representative of Uganda. you know that Kiswahili is hated in Buganda but not other regions. You have not gone to Kiryandongo or Bweyale to find out - in fact people in Kiryandongo district use Kiswahili as the main language of communication and the majority of people there lean Kiswahili . I think it would be better for you to go there and find out for yourself.
It is an oversimplification that the hatred of Kiswahili by the Baganda is linked to the past dictatorship of say Idi Amin, because Amins target was not the Baganda but the Acholi and Langi people who were slaughtered and thrown in rive Nile at Karuma falls in the 1970's yet the Acholi and Lango people do not hate Kiswahili.

English and Kiswahili are part of those languages, but only as second languages.

@@byttlejuice145 Your obliviousness to the underlying factors of your, "where Kenya is and where Uganda is, economically and politically", is evidence to your lack of knowledge on the history of both countries. FYI Uganda was put under British and US sanctions when General Amin chucked the Indians and Israelis from Uganda and subsequent decades of political turmoil. And guess where most of those Indians fled...... you guessed it, to your Kenya. General Amin did for Ugandans a very huge favour, something Mugabe emulated decades later, no wonder they are demonised by the West and lazy minded Africans follow suit. But fast forward to recent times, the whites being chased out of SA, Zimbabwe, Namibia etc, where do you think they are fleeing...... again you guessed it, your Kenya. Does that make Kenya economically more developed.... I guess, in your eyes, not mine. Because what does it profit the Kenyans to have all this "development" and be the hotel workers opening doors, lifting luggage, cooking meals for the Mzungu, you have a Nairobi and other towns, places that Kenyan natives can not even go to because they feel unwelcome there, places like Upper hill etc, restaurants where they are being kicked out, like that Chinese one.
It is kind of nonsensical for me to even compare two poor countries, it is like a kettle calling a pot black, ha ha ha ha ha, because I am sure you have traveled, if not physically at least through online means and dreams, to see what development means. But since you started it, here we go....... There are pillars of development that project a country's growth. Uganda is by far more gifted with natural resources, than your Kenya. For instance, check out google maps and see that 70% of Kenya is a desert, and Nairobi with its population growing soon will always have healthy and fresh water shortages now and in the future, it is a city that was built where there is no fresh water river or lake...... only may be that pond you got in the city centre...... Now look again on google maps and see how blessed Uganda is, even without mentioning the resources underground. If you did not know, the Wakanda inspiration by Stan Lee was about the kingdom of Buganda which amazed the European explorers upon arrival for its very well develop systems of government, that is all over world history, facts. And the tribe in the snow mountains is the Kingdoms in the Western Uganda where snow capped Mt. Rwenzori is, the descendants of the Cwezi and Tembuzi. Believe it or not but the movie also shows you the position of the tribe on western part of L. Victoria. The most developed systems and kingdoms, the colonialists made sure to destroy and that is why you see Uganda had so much instability because the colonialists feared a well organised kingdom developing, like a resource rich country like DRC. And it is only a matter of time, the US 30yrs ago could never have guessed that China will be richer than them in 2020AD and double richer than them in the next 30yrs. Uganda has all the necessary resources to leap frog Kenya in development in any way imaginable, once we get out sh!t together, Swahili or no Swahili. Although I love Swahili because it is an African language.

U can brag about all the resources we have if u want, or how organised past Kingdoms where, but some of us younger Ugandans just dont care, not because we hate our history, but because we hate where we are currently and we are only trying to look up to the future.

In Uganda's case people in Kampala do not have the interest of leading by example.

Kiswahili ina kiasili cha Kibantu, ambacho kiasili chake ni Kongo (DRC). Lugha za Kibantu zinapatikana kote Afrika mashariki, kati na kusini. Sio sawa kusema Kiswahili kilitoka Tanzania. Hata heri usemi DRC, kwenye lugha mingi za Kibantu zilitoka.
