    exactly this. The beetle and Kombi engines that were before these Golfs had no return line, but the pump was weaker - only delivering around 2-3 psi and the carb was happy. Some after market pumps would send out up to 6 psi and that caused the fuel to overcome the float needle and flood out the engine. The return line is there for the injection model cars so using the return line to dump off excess pressure for carb cars is an ideal way to solve pressure problems. Great videos by the way.

      Well said ..I couldn't have said it better ..
      Sometimes you get away with it on the golfs because the quality of some pumps are bad and weak...and cannot even pump through the fuel seperator,to the carb.That's why some just connect it direct to carb.,but with a good quality pump and no fuel return you flood the engine.

    I agree with you.
    I have been doing experiments and moved the fuel evaporator container to try to see if that improved things, it did not. I then fitted a tee piece as you have suggested and so far a much better car to drive.

    Pj, what's your take on electric fuel pumps if you running this carb

    I have been running mine for a few years direct from the fuel pump to the carb without any problems at all. It was always cutting out when I had the petrol return connected (after market pump and carb fitted though)

      Yes ,because you have aftermarket fuel pump it probably isn't that strong on pressure at the carb..but if you had a better quality you would find the fuel pressure would be too much,and you would need a return line ..

      Can you post/ suggest a fuel pump setup with specs of the fuel pump ? Do we need to install a fuel pressure regulator? My car uses in-tank fuel pump. So how do I install external electric fuel pump and the specs of the pump? Or I just use the old in-tank fuel pump and just install a fuel pressure regulator?

    Mr PJ
    Sitting with a problem
    I have connected my petrol directly with the carb....now I'm smelling petrol in my oil and oil is thin
    Is it normal?

    • @pjs-golfmk1-diy

      That's also what I'm trying to point out in this video..if the fuel pressure is too high ,it floods to such an extent that fuel can also end up in the combustion chamber . Bear in mind after you switch off the engine the fuel pressure is still at a level that it can force the needle and seat open ,and the fuel will overflow in the fuel bowl and get into the engine .I suggest you put in a T valve with a return line with ...or revert to the fuel seperator..

    • @pjs-golfmk1-diy
      @pjs-golfmk1-diy  ปีที่แล้ว

      And by the way change that oil...if it's mixed with fuel..that situation can damage your engine..,as your oil is now too thin..

      @@mcdeanpietersen7239 yes it can, because of the oil being thinned out ,its not lubricating the internal parts sufficiently .
