To put these numbers in context, if the US, with 3x population of Russia, suffered comparative casualties, it would be well over 1.5 million dead and wounded. The entire Vietnam war saw 55,000 US casualties, and it was primarily public pressure around the casualty numbers that forced that war to an end. If you know anything about how this conflict has gone, the initial numbers of both sides´ military capacity and the data and statistics giving even the vaguest idea of casualties, you´ll see UKR has suffered almost 8:1 in both KIA and WIA when compared with Russia.

When you have one of the planet's highest populations in an area the size of China, you're going to eventually need more land - not to mention all of the resources in Russia (Oil, Coal, Natural Gas, Rare Earth Metals, etc.) And China has also been looking to increase its 'Sphere of Influence' in Northeastern Asia since the last of the Khanates, once held by the Great Golden Horde of Genghis Khan, and subsequently, Kublai Khan, began losing its grip and control of what was essentially the entire Asian continent! Another factor is that Russian females outnumber Russian males by seven to six. Thus there are fewer Russian males of military age than Russia's total population would suggest. When you remember that the populations of the two largest cities, Moscow and St Petersburg, are effectively exempt from service, Russia's pool of military manpower is smaller still. I also wonder how long Russia's ethnic minorities (22% of the population) will put up with doing more than their fair share of the fighting.

When it comes to nuclear weapons I think that Russia is full of hot air for two reasons in that A deployment would get a major response from NATO, not something that Russia either wants or is capable of defending against and B given the state of their military overall in terms of long term systemic corruption one has to ask if they would even work as expected. There is no reason to believe that that department in isolation is free of corruption.

190,000 were part of the initial invasion, but the size of the total russian army is over a million with a few million more reservists, on top of the hundreds of thousands of mobilized, and DPR/LPR/Foreign supporters. Not all of these will be frontline infantry however, but it's likely that Russia still has hundreds of thousands of combat capable personnel if not millions. However, they will run out of an ability to adequately equip their soldiers long before that point (and have quite arguably already hit that point)

    • @willietorben560

"if France sends troops to Ukraine." - why would they? So that Article 5 is triggered, which NATO is EXTEMELY happy to have avoided so far?
And if you still think that 60-ton MBT are well suited for Ukraine, you haven't been listening. Ukraine simply stopped asking for additional Leo2, Challenger 2 and Abrams a long time ago. Sute, their crew protection is supreme - but this is a moot point if your tank breaks down en route to the frontline, cannot be recovered with the available gear, and forces the Ukrainians to waste 3-4 FPV drones to destroy it.
And what is worse: Ukraine expects a tank to have a native capacity for indirect fire, and a MASSIVE high-explosive/shrapnel round which will shred any and all uncovered infantry in a 15-m radius. No NATO heavy MBT has this capacity, but even a crummy T-55 can do it with easy.
NATO tanks can fight other tanks, and essentially nothing else. Problem tho: drones. Tank-on-tank battles on open ground almost never happen in this war.
European wide 'unexplained' arson in defense related industries." - I am not sure if this isn't autosuggestion. IIRC the most widely reported case of "unexplained arson" in defense related industries" was the fire in Germany which was later claimed to be due to faulty cables, with no evidence of arson. And I sontaneously I am not aware of other high-profile cases.
