I LOVE the one little nod to G1. D-16 Dion They are the same character except they combined Dion and Megatron together. You could even say Megatron 'kills' him in this movie.
I have to disagree with the Optimus being too naive and banishing megatron just for killing sentinel who should have been killed (yes he was too naive in the beginning). I agree maybe sentinel should have probably have been killed but to try and start a better civilization based on good and peace it probably should not start with a public execution. Also megatron decided to destroy the entire city which could have resulted in many innocent deaths so it was obvious he lost his way and needed to either be convinced back to the good or exiled and we both know he wasn’t going to be convinced. On the point of the elite guard they followed megatron in destroying iacon so they are just as guilty

TF One is not direct sequel to any TF show/film ever made. Agree, saying it is a prequel to the Bayverse is ridiculous. XD TF One is an amalgamation of several lore elements/story arcs from several different continuties, and they took inspiration from a ton of TF comics/cartoons/tv series. XD Like Megatron's D-16 low class miner origin came from the IDW comics, just like the 'class/caste' system. Orion, D-16/Megatron being sworn brothers/best friends working together to topple a false prime (Sentinel, who had the title of the Prime without having the MAtrix), and his opressive, corrupt government was taken from the Aligned continuity, just like Starscream's TF One's backstory (Megatron taking Starscream's men, space station, respurces, position happened in the War for Cybertron games, and before that Starscream actually served the Primes as their bodyguardin the books; he left when he realized that Sentinel was a spinless coward tho). G1 also influenced this film in pretty significant ways, like cogless bots unable to transform during the Quintesson rule, the Quintessons, Orion being a low class manual labourer (he was a dock worker in the G 1 series), Megatron killing Orion before he was rebuilt as Optimus Prime to house the Matrix, Optimus's energy axe at the end fight etc. Sentinel is reminiscent of TFA's interpretation of the character (blue/gold, big chin, narcissistic asshole) and he had a very similar weapon Sentinel used in the Baymovies. :) Orion being a history nerd, spending his time in the Archives is a clever nod to TFP/Aligned continuity, just like the music (TF One, and TFP has the same composer, and he put elements/musical themes from TFP into this movie) And these examples are just a few of the ton of inspiration they took. Also I understand your criticism about Optimus/Orion. "How he not wants to rip Sentinel's head off?" is a valid question. But Cybertron ended up as Setinel's dystopic authoritarian state because Sentinel thought he could do anything he wants because he had the power/strenght to do so. What Megatron was doing was the same. (revenge vs justice) Also I can understand and really value Orion's character. Yes he went trough a ton of injustice just like D-16, but he did not let his anger/thirst for revenge rule him. That is real strenght not what Megatron did. Even tho Orion was slighted, and lived in opression he still chose to try to fix their broken society instead of burning it to the ground. There are very few heroes left in media. Everything is several different shades of gray nowdays, and seeing an old fashioned, heroic, brave hero was a breath of fresh air. And yes, Orion starts out very irresponsible, naive, and immature, but he grows up by the end of the film. Yeah Starscream was cool initially but ultimately he is a coward, that is Starscream basically in every TF media, that is the core of his character. He looks very treathening, an he bluffs a lot, but he will fold if someone stronger comes around. (idk if you noticed but there is a very short scene when Airachnid attacked the High Guard Starscream was trying to hide) Also Soundwave and Shockwave are only under Starscream in the hierarchy because none of them wants to lead (Shockwave does not care who is in power if he's allowed to conduct his incredibly unethical science experiments, tho in a lots of continuitis he is almost on par with Megatron/Optimus as far as power/strengh goes, and Soundwave like to operate in the shadows) One of my few nitpicks is how they handled Shockwave. I hate his TF One itration. I grew up with the IDW/Aligned conyinuity/TFP cold, rational Shockave who lives his life by the principle of logic (and all in these continuities Shockwave is so powerful/strong/durable that he is a genuine treath to Megatron). TF One's Shockwave is a clown T_T. And they tried to set up the Elita/Shockwave rivalization, but in my opinion it does not work, because Shockwave is no threat whatsoever. Also the only thing I didn't like about Elita is that she was willing to let one of her miners die, for the sake of her career, and no one called her out. Esp her line 'think before you ruin someone's life' to Orion after she was fired was very annoying. Orion went back, risking his life to save Jazz. And her respons was hate because she got demoted, even tho a life was saved. (and something similar happens with her in the Skybound comics, Elita becomes an incredibly hardy, callous character but the difference is that she gets called out for it, Arcee even punches her in the face)
Can´t connect to G1 because Alpha Trion is dead. Can´t connect to Bayverse (or that piece of shit ROTB) because the Matrix, Sentinel dead, just being awesome. Can´t link to Skybound because Starscream´s backstory, can´t link to IDW because Megatron Origins, can´t link to Prime because Optimus can smile.

It makes so much sense now why Starscream keeps trying to kill Megs because he wants the command of the high guard back from him.
